0:00 - So this is the FUJIFILM X-T2
0:03 and it came out about three years ago and it's been my stills camera for the last three years.
0:08 And I'm very happy with it. It's been my favorite stills camera that I've ever owned.
0:12 I didn't upgrade to the X-T3 because it didn't feel like enough of a upgrade.
0:16 But today we have Fuji's brand new X-T4.
0:21 And I'm wondering if this is finally enough of an upgrade
0:25 for me to switch. At 1699 US, it's not the cheapest camera,
0:31 but Fujifilm is also very competitive in lots of their features
0:35 compared to Canon, Sony and Panasonic. Well, we're starting off with no instructions in the box
0:40 because this is a press sample unit, but no big deal,
0:44 we don't need any of those. Oh.
0:48 They sent me the silver one. I've always been,
0:52 not like clean black finish on all the cameras,
0:55 but I'm glad that Fuji offers two different colors.
0:58 They offer the X-T4 in both silver and black.
1:02 Physically, it feels a little bit heavier.
1:06 I believe it's about a hundred grams heavier than the previous two models before.
1:13 So my X-T2 versus, wait, this has a lens on it
1:17 so it's a little bit unfair, take the lens off.
1:20 Definitely feel a weight difference, but this also has a 2,200 mAh power battery.
1:27 So that is a significant improvement on the 1,200 mAh power battery that the Fuji X-T2 has.
1:35 Unfortunately for me, that means also that the batteries themselves are
1:39 a brand new type of battery, this new NP-,
1:45 whatever the number is editor. Thank you. It's apparently has double battery lifetime overall.
1:52 So in the box we have a type C cable, cool.
1:55 This new, this new X-T4 also has the type C port on it,
1:58 which is really nice. It allows charging and it doubles as a headphone jack
2:05 within adapter, which here is that tiny little adapter,
2:09 not the biggest fan of that, honestly. I would have, as someone who shoots prominently video,
2:16 it would have been nice to have included a direct dedicated 3.5 millimeter jack.
2:22 But I also sort of understand the logic here. You kind of get the best of both worlds
2:26 and then they save space on the ports themselves.
2:29 We have the typical camera strap.
2:33 What is this? Oh little charger, USB little ward.
2:37 With the new type C port you can actually charge the battery through the camera,
2:40 or you can just do what normal people do
2:44 and buy a separate charger to charge more than one battery at the same time.
2:48 That's probably the way to go. It doesn't seem to come with
2:53 a separate charger. So actually, as it stands,
2:57 you have to charge battery in the camera in order to charge it
3:01 when you have just the camera. That's a little bit, I don't know about that.
3:06 I mean, I'm all for the option to power your camera off of type C, type C is amazing,
3:12 but that means you can't use your camera
3:15 while your battery is charging, which is kind of annoying. Which okay, to be fair to Fuji,
3:20 they've also included as an optional accessory, this X-T4 battery grip,
3:27 which also includes,
3:31 wow this thing is heavy. So this battery grip that Fuji's released
3:35 in conjunction with the X-T4 also has a ded,
3:38 is the only way that you can get a dedicated 3.5 millimeter jack on the X-T4.
3:43 So one of the main reasons that I bought a Fujifilm camera to begin with
3:47 when I was looking for a stills camera, is that there, the bodies themselves are so compact.
3:52 And so when you look at having to add the battery grip,
3:56 if you want a dedicated 3.5 millimeter jack,
4:00 it just adds weight, it adds vertical height to the camera,
4:04 that's sort of awkward cause then this is not usually a very friendly height
4:09 adjustment to 15 millimeter rails, If you want to rig it.
4:13 I mean, there's going to be people third-party manufacturers that are gonna make
4:16 rigging parts that allow you to rig this well, but,
4:20 I don't know, this is not, this is not the ideal video centric
4:24 form factor that I personally liked very much. One of the benefits is like,
4:28 look how small Fuji's lenses can be because it's APSC size sensor
4:33 and the cameras themselves aren't that big. I mean, comparatively,
4:37 this is an 85 mil lens that you'd use for video,
4:40 which is a little bit unfair to compare this to.
4:44 But I mean, to give you some context, this is Fuji's lenses.
4:48 So small, so good. If you look at the top of the dials,
4:51 they haven't really changed that much. The shutter button is apparently improved.
4:57 What? I don't know, it actually on this press unit,
5:03 the shutter feels a little bit mushier than my X-T2.
5:08 Interesting. So the dials is overall the same. They added the ISO 160 unlike,
5:15 instead of the low little bit like low logo here.
5:19 So that's nice. You have a more precise idea of what your ISO is
5:24 when you're at the low setting. I mean, you could always just look at it through the EVF.
5:28 Wouldn't be a big deal. It has a little nice touch though. So there's a couple small dial changes
5:33 with the X-T4 in the, my X-T2 specifically,
5:36 there's this new stills and movie dial, which allows you to go from stills only shooting
5:42 or only video shooting, which actually, having used the X-T2 briefly for video,
5:50 that's a nice touch, because going through the menus before and having to deal with,
5:54 oh, is this the video menu or is this stills menu? When you're trying to move quickly.
5:58 A little annoying, so now, the menus themselves,
6:01 all of the movies settings are here. For the stills menu, you have only still setting.
6:07 All those nice, new, easy to think about still settings.
6:10 And then when you want to go to movie mode, you go back to the menu and oh, look, movie settings,
6:16 H265, 4k recording.
6:19 All that stuff is much easier to access
6:22 versus having to deal with both menu simultaneously
6:26 with the X-T2. Guys, Fuji has finally listened to all our,
6:31 all of the users that have said for years that every camera,
6:36 every stills camera that can shoot video should follow something that Canon has been doing
6:43 for how long now? Since, 10 years ago probably,
6:47 they've had this awesome flip out screen. And when I got my X-T2, I was like, okay,
6:54 they did this weird, like hybrid flip out screen thing that also allows you to do this angle.
6:59 Like when would I ever use, I mean, in this mode, you might use that a little bit,
7:04 but not nearly as useful for video,
7:07 even stills as something like this.
7:11 Well, the X-T4 has fixed that problem.
7:15 Flip out screen. Guys, look at this.
7:18 It's beautiful. I love it. I mean, okay. You know what, Fuji, I'm,
7:22 I'm very happy that you finally listened and saw the way forward
7:26 and now people can selfie video with your camera.
7:30 How great is that? Also, in addition to it being a flip out screen,
7:34 it is now also a touch screen. Ooh, that brand new camera click.
7:40 The first time you put a lens on it, you hear that?
7:44 Guys, I can listen to this all day. So the IPS is new on the, the new X-T4.
7:49 I've lost my IPS for my X-T2 multiple times.
7:52 So it just, it locks, it just presses in and then it doesn't go anywhere
7:55 unless you want it to. And then you can take it off when you want to replace it with something else.
7:58 But I mean, really why would you ever replace it?
8:02 You just don't want to lose it. Overall, I am actually appreciating the fact that
8:05 even though they made the camera slightly heavier, slightly bigger, the grip itself,
8:09 if you can tell from right here is quite a bit bigger
8:15 than the grip on the X-T2, which that was probably one of my biggest complaints about my X-T2,
8:20 is while it's nice and compact and small, the grip also leaves something to be desired
8:25 where something like even Canon's old DSLRs,
8:28 the grip was much more significant, but I mean, you also think about how thick
8:32 this camera is compared to this.
8:35 Now this improved battery and extra size allows a nice, nicer grip.
8:40 And that actually feels really premium, very nice.
8:43 So a couple of things that Fuji has also added is
8:47 they have those, their typical film simulations. Probio, Valvia, Astia soft, classic Chrome, pronag high,
8:55 pro neck standard, but then these new ones, the Eterna and the Eterna Bleach Bypass,
9:01 which are ideal for video use. I mean, you get this kind of weird, contrasty,
9:08 bleached bypass look, if you want that baked into your video, which again, personally, I wouldn't use,
9:13 but it's nice that they included it. For Eterna though, I might actually use for stills.
9:17 It seems like an interesting picture profile for that,
9:20 but I'm, I'm definitely a classic Chrome guy,
9:23 classic Chrome. Anyone who use Fuji will probably know what I'm talking about. Classic Chrome, so nice.
9:28 Okay, let me just dial in our white balance so we can start taking a couple of photos.
9:31 Oh, look, they've changed the white balance.
9:36 The way that the white balance is done, that's a little nice touch.
9:39 That's really small versus my X-T2
9:42 in custom white balance, you have to select from presets
9:46 and you could never define exactly to the 50th Kelvin that you want.
9:52 Guys, it's the little details in the settings like that, that really make me a happier shooter.
9:59 So one of my favorite new features of the X-T4 is that it has a in-body stabilization,
10:04 which is something Sony has had for a while, but Fuji has out done themselves.
10:09 6.5 stops of in-body stabilization on this camera,
10:12 which I'm going to try to take a photo at one eighth shutter now of Andy over here
10:17 and see how that feels.
10:22 Wow. And the shutter sounds nice.
10:26 Here David, I'm gonna take a photo of you too. Oh damn.
10:30 Look at David's glasses right there.
10:34 Guys, pin sharp. That was very low effort on keeping my body steady.
10:40 Impressive. One thing I want to compare between these two is just how the shutter sounds.
10:45 This is my X-T2.
10:48 It's pretty loud. And then let's see how the X-T4 sounds in comparison.
10:53 Wow, guys,
10:57 if you're an event shooter or just someone who wants to be
11:01 very discreet when you're taking photos,
11:04 that is a nice sounding shutter
11:08 and that's a mechanical shutter, not electronic, electronic a solid obviously,
11:12 but, yeah, that sounds good.
11:15 I mean, again, so with all these improvements, the sensor is the same as the X-T3.
11:20 So you'll get that very good 26 megapixel performance that you got out of that camera,
11:26 just with all these little bells and whistles, which, and guys, I can't get over this screen, come on.
11:31 Okay, so for those of you who own an X-T3 or have used an X-T3,
11:35 you will probably be familiar with the improved 4k video,
11:38 versus my X-T2, which was always a little unfortunate.
11:41 I couldn't really ever shoot video that I was super happy with out of this camera,
11:45 but with the X-T4, all of those video improvements
11:48 that came from the X-T3 transfer here, but they've also added 1080p, 240fps.
11:56 Should we test it? I think so. Let's just make sure our setting is on
12:02 and we're at 29.97, 240p.
12:06 Nice. All right. lttstore.com
12:15 Ooh. That feels good.
12:20 Impressed. 1080p, 240 FPS and a camera this size.
12:25 That's pretty freaking awesome. So for all you sports photographers out there,
12:29 the continuous shooting mode has improved from even the X-T3.
12:34 It is now a whopping 15 FPS.
12:40 Listen to that. 15 FPS.
12:43 And guys, if you wanted to shoot with an electronic shutter,
12:48 it is 30 FPS. Whereas my X-T2 unfortunately only has eight.
12:55 And it's so much louder. Holy crap.
12:59 So many shots of Andy,
13:02 I can now see Andy at 15 FPS, no blackout on this EVF.
13:07 So with the files on my X-T2,
13:10 when you go into the raw recording setting,
13:13 you have uncompressed and lossless compressed, but the X-T4
13:18 has uncompressed, lossless compressed and then compressed.
13:23 So guys, if you want the benefits of raw,
13:26 but you don't want the file sizes, you can get a slightly, not quite as fat file,
13:31 but smaller sizes and a lot of the main benefits like white balance change
13:35 and better control of your exposure overall.
13:38 So all these changes that they've made to the X-T4 might feel like small changes overall,
13:44 but like the addition of Ibis and the fully articulating touchscreen.
13:50 I mean, like all of these things together, especially from my use case of using the X-T2
13:54 feel like very significant upgrades.
13:59 I mean, things like the continuous 15 FPS mechanical shooting,
14:03 just really nice. And the camera itself feels better in the hand
14:07 than my X-T2 did with the extended battery life for longer shoots, that's going to improve the usability a lot.
14:13 So thank you guys for watching this ShortCircuit on the X-T4.
14:16 I'm probably going to upgrade to this cause I like, I really do.
14:20 Man, this, this, this touchscreen and this variable angle screen,
14:24 plus the in-body stabilization really bring this together to be
14:28 a much more functional camera than the one that I already own.
14:33 Great job Fuji. Subscribe to ShortCircuit. See you guys later.
