today we're going to be unboxing the my book World Edition so this is a network
0:05
hard drive or NAS network attached storage this is a 2 terabyte drive so
0:10
it's a single 3 and 1/2 in 2 tbte Drive in there you can do backup and storage
0:15
for all your computers and it connects to a network router it's 30% more
0:19
efficient than standard systems so claims WD and let's see what else they
0:23
have to say for themselves okay that's just showing the unit itself we're going
0:27
to check that out when we actually open the box all right so you've got
0:30
automatic backup automatic and continuous backup never mind automatic
0:34
backup share so you can add centralized storage for everyone to save and share
0:38
music photos videos and files on your home network okay it's a Nas so that's
0:41
what it does access so you can retrieve files from anywhere anytime even when
0:46
your computer is off okay that pretty much goes along with it being a NZ and
0:50
hey this is good you can play movies and music on your TV through your Xbox 360
0:53
Playstation 3 or digital media adapter so here they have a little uh chart of
0:58
how your network will look when you have one of these so you got your router here
1:02
you got your computer here you got your wireless computers here including PC and
1:06
Mac there is your my book World Edition
1:10
and then here's a game console with a television and you can use the USB port
1:14
to add more storage so you can plug in like another Western Digital external
1:18
hard drive just directly into the my book World Edition and increase the
1:22
storage automatically cool all right so
1:26
a 2 tab gives you up to 880 hours of DVD
1:30
quality movie 500,000 MP3s or
1:35
571 th000 jpegs and those would be big jpegs too I
1:40
mean if you're storing small jpegs I mean that would be more like on the
1:44
order of millions all right here we go so oh easy
1:50
setup three simple steps plug the drive into your router insert the CD into your
1:54
computer use Easy Discovery tools to recognize the drive on your computers
1:58
okay well that's easy though let's open this thing up and have a look at
2:04
it it's
2:08
white you know what they say White's the New
2:15
Black actually Apple's moved on to aluminum so maybe white isn't cool
2:21
anymore okay so here's a little manual about your WD product system view
2:27
connecting it okay how to use it with
2:30
leopard and tiger all right there is a
2:33
software installation CD you might want to actually use
2:38
that all right here's uh support
2:41
numbers and next we have uh did you know
2:45
you can update the firmware over the L great that's good to know all right
2:50
let's open this thing up so this is quite thig this could probably hold two
2:53
drives inside actually I might have been mistaken saying it was one 2 terab drive
2:58
it might be two 1 tab drives here's a power adapter all right fairly standard
3:03
thing next we have a an Ethernet cable
3:07
presumably is at least cat 5e so it'll run at gigabit speeds so throw those
3:12
back in there and let's have a look at the my book World Edition which is oh it's sealed yay I
3:17
get to break another seal I like that it really does add to the unboxing
3:22
experience the more unpackaging and unboxing you can do the better all right
3:27
well there's a very very shiny WD logo on the side right there is shiny shiny
3:32
white at the front you've got a little
3:36
uh not sure if that's a window or just a gray gray bar and then on the other side
3:40
you have another shiny WD logo on the bottom you've got four little rubberized
3:44
feet so it's meant to sit like this that's my keys okay so it's meant to sit
3:49
just like that it's not going to slip CU it has rubberized feet and on the back
3:53
very simply you've got a power switch a USB port and a gigabit Ethernet port
3:59
there's a little card reset as well as your power in okay now I'm going to try
4:04
something here and I don't know if this is going to
4:08
work so I'm not going to televise it so
4:13
to speak hold on going to try and get it open cuz
4:19
someone told me how to do it but I don't know if I'm doing it right here or
4:25
not I'm not doing it right okay forget it so inside we see one heart drive and
4:31
then lots of room for ventilation and other electronics so I don't know I
4:34
don't know how well you can see this but the drive is right here there's lots of
4:37
electronics which are powering the back plane here at the I/O and then uh yep
4:44
all of these are just straight through vents where you can completely see the
4:47
hard drive so it is passively cooled that means that if it sits a little bit
4:51
up off the table which it will because of these feet you're going to have air
4:54
just naturally uh flowing down from the bottom and then up through the top and
4:58
in from the back because of the heat generated by the components inside so
5:02
thank you for checking out my unboxing of the My Book World Edition 2 terabyte
5:07
Network hard drive from Western Digital
