0:00 all right guys it's oh I don't hear the any audio that could be a bad sign or it
12:11 it was all right let's move on to the next thing then shall we sure all right I
18:19 what one where AT&T the next next topic down oh the backs off halting their five
23:20 customers um speaking of laying down fiber so our original Source here is ARS Te
28:58 oh speaking of actually speaking of politics was Sony hacked by North Korea oh y
37:37 people's reactions what a great entertaining all right so next up we've got our
49:27 a liar speaking of being a liar I'm not lying about I am in San Jose this is goi
57:13 would if you would desire to do that all right let's move on to our next topic here which is I remember making fun of...
62:25 actually kind of totally makes sense and that's pretty much all we actually have
84:43 said on this show all right moving on same bad time same bad Channel next week w

0:00 all right guys it's oh I don't hear the any audio that could be a bad sign or it
0:04 could be oh that's weird I don't hear anything
0:10 because my computer is muted yeah dog
0:14 does that mean it's muted for them too uh sometimes that's what that means yeah
0:18 well I guess we're about to find out aren't we maybe no one heard anything
0:22 all right guys it's w show time again yeah no things are working everything is
0:26 working everything is fine welcome to the W show where everything is fine and
0:30 everything is good except our video capture cards is the Youtube upload muted then
0:35 no it's fine I just checked it yes everything is fine everything is
0:39 wonderful Everything is Awesome we should just sing that song for an hour
0:43 and a half copyrights all over the place well everything is awesome well we could
0:48 sing it for an hour and a quarter because we're 15 minutes late sorry guys
0:51 we're here so we've got a great show for you guys today steam has introduced
0:55 broadcasting in a way that I actually think is much more organic and much
1:01 closer to the more traditional like
1:04 watching your buddy play video games kind of thing that even services like
1:09 twitch TV were kind of modeled after so more on that later also AT&T is
1:14 wondering why exactly 6 megabit is you
1:18 know not that great and a gigabit is much better I don't know AT&T because
1:23 everything's not awesome uh cap impression Capa is dead can we make like
1:29 AT&T bird like we should have a shirt that's just like a blue and white bird
1:34 with his head like this why is that
1:38 better why is 10 higher than five the the ISP bird can you prove that I don't
1:44 think you should be able to build fiber here because I don't want you to um
1:49 capture is possibly dead meet no capture by Google which again we'll just talk
1:53 about that later mouse movements and stuff and then he stole my thing again
1:57 and then I for no we're good gangdam style hit an integer cap in terms of
2:00 views so things are happening and things are changing and it's crazy and we'll
2:03 talk about more views than anyone from YouTube ever thought was
2:08 possible lus Tech tips
2:11 Edition yeah we've never done that no in fact we have very few videos that are
2:16 anywhere near any kind of impressive view Camp whatsoever yes we only have
2:20 like half a dozen videos that have over a million views and one's a fire truck
2:23 and one's a fire track that one has 3
2:28 million should review like an actual fir
2:32 truck that would be a great followup unboxing a fir Truck Yeah so we've got a
2:37 few great sponsors for you guys today number one is everybody's favorite
2:41 sponsor Squarespace or at least your favorite
2:44 sponsor if you're into building beautiful websites very easily
2:48 squarespace.com offer Cod L also the Intel extreme Masters is
2:54 going on in San Jose so visit lusch
2:58 tips.com for details about what Intel is going to be up to at this event and
3:04 finally whoa is that a new sponsor Wow have we have we done Loot Crate before
3:09 let's see how hard I screw up everything and then everyone will sign up for Loot
3:13 Crate if 54 is anything to go by seriously like every time I screw up a
3:18 54 integration and it's not that I'm doing it on purpose trust me I it's
3:23 Nick's fault we need to get like a I blame Nick Nick is going to hate you for
3:28 that if we could get like affordable
3:32 grocery food style not like pizza but like grocery food style I think we could
3:37 basically round out everything that you would need to do other than go to work
3:41 so if someone was able to then get a work atome job we with with the sponsor
3:46 lineup that we have we might be able to enable it so they would never have to
3:50 leave their house is this good or bad I'm not sure don't know yeah me neither
3:55 all right so why don't we launch into our first topic for the day uh this one
4:00 this one's pretty much a complete stroke of Genius so I'm just going to copy copy
4:05 the link here I'm going to see if I'm oh I am not logged into twitch because for
4:09 some reason oh don't you guys hate this
4:12 you know okay sorry we're not going to do a topic right now we are going to do
4:16 a rant and this happens on computers it
4:19 happens on phones yes I am going
4:23 there why why is text input ever ever slower
4:31 than my fingers and I apologize to the headphone users because oh they just got
4:35 wrecked I'm pretty sure I just destroyed you all okay I'm going to have to move
4:39 back for the rest of this topic because I don't understand why in the time that
4:44 I've been using computers okay you probably got close I don't care in the
4:48 time that I've been using computers they have increased in power
4:54 exponentially and yet somehow my fingers
4:58 are still faster you know what Microsoft
5:02 Apple Google all of you get your crap
5:07 together the keyboard input is the most
5:11 important thing everything else that
5:15 stupid audio ad running on some website
5:19 in a tab that I can't find is not as
5:22 important as the keyboard input it
5:25 should never be slow so that's what I've got to say about that and it's working
5:30 now I just saw him go through that and every single time what okay at the I
5:35 hate it and I'm completely on board with you that rant was brilliant all good
5:39 everything I'm cool with r was brilliant you're fired for sucking up but what's
5:43 actually kind of entertaining is when it lags on your phone and you're like okay
5:46 can I do this and you got to try and get like the whole like long sentence out
5:51 and then wait wait wait and then see it just go and do all of it and if you see any
5:55 errors you're like ah no the reason I'm so mad about that is not just right now
6:01 but the mac's been doing it yeah and I know it only has 8 gigs of RAM and and
6:06 like I am a tab fiend and I really need to get that 32 gigs of RAM in there like
6:11 I I know I have to do these things he's the worst tab I've ever but text is text
6:15 input is always more important than anything else if you have to reserve 16
6:21 kilobytes of RAM that's needed for that then you deserve it you do what you got
6:26 to do I shouldn't have to like the Mac
6:30 has been really bad the worst I've ever seen like I'll be typing if you type it
6:35 in and then it pauses and then fills out what you typed in later it's technically
6:39 sitting in memory right so the Mac
6:43 actually will lose the middle of what I typed so if I type like 10 words it'll
6:49 go can't keep up oh I'm sorry at the end
6:53 and I have to fill back in the middle and I have to wait around to fill back
6:56 in the middle that's not good it's driving me bananas yep y that's not okay
7:01 that's super bad so now I don't even I
7:05 have no idea what I was supposed to be talking we talking about some 30 versus
7:09 60 FPS to oh yeah that's stupid crap again all right so digital Foundry tries
7:14 to make a case for um for 30 FPS and
7:18 it's basically the same old bloody thing I just posted the link in the uh in the
7:21 twitch chat this was posted by zidian on the Forum and
7:26 now in this case they're making it very
7:30 clear 60fps is the better option when
7:34 possible and I think in this way they're doing a better job of maybe not putting
7:41 PR spin on it quite as much as some other
7:44 companies sof um are trying to by
7:47 calling it more cinematic but they're just being realistic and trying to
7:51 address the issue from from the perspective of like what's actually
7:56 going on why are we making these choices and so they basically say things like
8:00 you know in lots of scenarios frame rate
8:03 limiting can result in marketly smoother
8:06 gameplay and they have a point they do have a point because some people find
8:12 screen tearing more objectionable than
8:16 the than the slight well I shouldn't even call it slight I hate it but the
8:19 latency that's associated with vsync or
8:22 vers or the advantages associated with having you know 48 FPS versus being
8:27 knocked all the way down to 30 some people find tearing very objectionable
8:31 and for people with vsync if their computer performance is on the edge and
8:36 sometimes they'll dip down to 58 FPS and sometimes they'll be at 65 every time it
8:41 dips to 58 it's going to dip all the way to 30 because that's the way vsync works
8:45 and those stutters where the display has
8:48 to put the same frame up twice are
8:52 terrible you really really feel that so
8:55 in a case where you were going to run at 42 FPS you're probably better off from a
9:01 smoothness standpoint just running at 30
9:04 unless you've got something like g-sync which allows the display to refresh only
9:09 as often as the graphics card outputs a new frame um in order to have 42 FPS
9:14 smoothness versus 30 FPS or like know 60
9:19 the only problem I have with this is this is not what anyone was arguing
9:22 about at any point in time they didn't actually address
9:26 anything no at all nope because like
9:29 this is a big part of the reason why people push for certain FPS limits and
9:33 why they say 30 FPS is bad if the exact same thing you're just talking about if
9:36 you're running at 30 FPS and it dips below that's super not good if you're
9:41 running at 45 FPS 40 FPS and you can limit it down
9:46 a little bit and you don't have dips then fine or if you don't want to do
9:49 that and you can run it 40 or 45 then fine that's better but if we were
9:53 running at 56 then I'd rather we turn
9:57 down the details a little bit and push for 60 versus
10:00 but this isn't even like what they're talking I mean they're saying that's
10:04 what I mean it has nothing to do with the conversation that's actually going on they're just talking on the side and
10:08 it doesn't matter yeah it's basically a summary as far as I can tell sure so
10:12 there's stuff like okay and I disagree
10:16 with the point that 30 FPS with motion blur results in a good consist okay okay
10:21 no I agree it results in a consistant presentation you don't agree that it's
10:25 good I don't agree that it's good at all I think it's terrible artificial motion
10:29 blur after the fact is awful because you have to think about how motion blur
10:33 Works motion blur is the difference
10:37 between one frame and another one being kind of smeared so when you only know
10:44 the last frame and you don't know the next frame you can never do it correctly
10:49 because these images are coming at your eye so fast they have to be all blurred
10:54 together in a way that is that is realistic looking so when there's motion
10:57 blur and you quickly pan back and like
11:00 say for example you might do an I don't know any game ever maybe not like know
11:05 driving games are a exle motion BL can work unless you get uh unless it's like
11:10 an arcadey style driving game and someone can fish tail you or T-bone you
11:14 and your car oh then it's a mess isn't it it just looks awful uh but in FPS
11:18 games where you might be looking around this corner looking around that one mind you I'm I'm going like this as if I'm
11:22 holding a mouse and it's not like it's not like with a controller you can look
11:25 fast anywhere anyway so um so in in most
11:29 cases when you jerk like that the the motion blur effect is going to is going
11:34 to um whatever it's going to kind of
11:38 bleed the wrong way it's going to predictively try to go that way oh
11:42 actually went this way oh crap and then it's going to adjust itself and it doesn't know when you're going to want
11:45 to stop and especially if you rapidly go back the other direction like if you're
11:49 just checking and then you go back it's pretty pretty bad it does do a good job
11:53 as long as the motion on screen is predictable of making 30fps look a lot
11:58 smoother but the problem is that it's an interactive medium not television and if
12:03 it's television it's fine M um so there was one other thing in here that uh that
12:08 I wanted to talk about blah blah blah blah blah blah blah can't remember what
12:11 it was all right let's move on to the next thing then shall we sure all right
12:15 I just it's it's just a summary and it and it just it doesn't really matter
12:19 they didn't really say anything this is super cool this is hardly Tech to be
12:24 perfectly I don't see it Tech at all
12:27 okay it's not Tech I just thought this was cool I was the one who added this to
12:30 the do this week so the world's first underground Park it's definitely cool
12:35 could be coming sometime in 2018 I just posted the link in the twitch chat go
12:40 ahead and screen share with lonus one of
12:43 these days I'm going to remember to wire up this connection because my wireless
12:48 reception in this room is terrible um or we could we could install
12:53 that router that I was testing or that access point excuse me excuse me oh did
12:57 I just call it a router wow did to me yesterday too I know I know it's a bad
13:02 it's a consumer habit well it's wireless
13:05 is there for a router no it's an access point um so if we installed that access
13:10 point yeah that would be a good thing the the badass one the buus yeah I'll
13:14 tell you about it after but uh I was
13:17 getting 10 megabit from the mailbox there's a house I know aside
13:22 from this house isn't there like one and a half no it's about two walls of one
13:28 house it kind of cuts it
13:32 neighbor's with inss between the mailbox and that access
13:38 point and I was using a phone like I didn't have like a fraking dish like
13:43 pointed at it unreal so New York City
13:47 plans to create the low line the world's first underground Park so it was
13:51 inspired by The High Line which reused
13:54 uh these the these train tracks and turned them into kind of like an eco
13:59 beautiful kind of Park thing so this is a concept concept art thing so the
14:03 article here is from the star.com I think it's really cool so there are some
14:07 technical challenges they are going to have a lot of work ahead of them um this
14:11 is all part of like that Lower East Side
14:14 transformation project thing that's going on but basically they're going to
14:19 have to figure out how to get natural light 20 ft down and um figure out what
14:24 kind of plants they're going to be able to grow there and they're converting what was an old uh an old station into
14:30 an underground park now yeah I I think it I think it's cool like when I was say
14:35 oh it has nothing to do with tech yeah like I don't see obviously there's Tech
14:39 going into this but like I don't see it being like Oh yeah they're running PCS
14:43 which manage the Windows for the natural light no no I I haven't seen any of that
14:47 yet uh but it is cool regardless that would be kind of funny like oh they're
14:52 running Linux people start freaking out that
14:56 would be pretty entertaining but no I haven't seen any of that kind of stuff
15:00 yet didn't happen nope not even not even
15:03 close not even sure what on Earth you're talking about I wonder if they're even
15:06 going to end up doing it um the Park
15:09 yeah cuz isn't it just like they're raising money right yeah they're raising
15:13 money but they've already raised a fair chunk of it and I think okay like there
15:16 are some critics of the whole plan so um
15:21 on the surface it looks like oh hey we're taking a completely crowded area
15:25 and we're creating like a public space in it which is great is underground it's
15:29 very efficient but then you know well hold on a second you know what about
15:34 when this is rented out for private function this and event that are we
15:39 actually creating any public space out of it right the answer
15:43 is no well the private money that comes
15:46 from events like that will keep it free because right now very little public
15:50 money is actually being put into it so the public doesn't really get to
15:55 complain too much if it's not being paid for out of the taxpayers pockets I mean
15:59 this is the second cool thing we've talked about in New York so the first thing they had was those Wi-Fi hotspots
16:04 which some people were talking about about how that was a bad idea and
16:07 basically you're wrong why was that a bad idea I don't remember it was some
16:11 ridiculous thing but it's it any more public Wi-Fi even if it's not the most
16:16 amazing thing ever is better than no public Wi-Fi um after being in the EU
16:22 and like Germany especially Germany has like basically no public Wi-Fi and
16:27 there's a lot of times where I was just just like I just really need to have
16:32 Google Maps load for like a minute and then I'm fine yeah necro says yeah
16:37 they're going for it it was just being I think it's been being used for storage
16:40 since 1935 yeah like it's been just sitting
16:44 there doing nothing apparently the eye beams look like they're in pretty good
16:48 shape considering they've been there over a hundred years I was reading up on
16:51 a little bit of History this thing was only in use uh like regularly for I
16:56 think about 35 or 40 years wow something along those lines I mean a huge
17:00 investment building an underground station and uh so at least they're going
17:04 to get some use out of it other than other than
17:08 uh whatever the thing that I just said storage thank you I am not at my best
17:13 today guys I actually had um so this is just lonus Media Group news not really
17:18 real news so maybe he's just stalling for time maybe he thinks it's important
17:22 we don't know may both uh but I actually sat down with ncx today and so a lot of
17:27 people Express confusion about this on a regular basis do I work at NC do I not
17:31 work at NC I do not work at NC I am not
17:34 an employee of NC I am an independent
17:38 entity I have my own company but they do
17:41 contract me to shoot videos for NCIX Tech tips the YouTube channel that I
17:45 that I started where I uploaded my first YouTube video so obviously there's some
17:49 sentimental reasons why I keep going back there but uh we sat down today to
17:54 decide if we were going to renew our our deal and uh the original deal was 2
17:58 years so I've actually been away from NC for almost 2 years now and it looks like
18:02 we are going to renew for another year so you can expect to keep seeing more of
18:05 me over on NC Tech tips okay well it's not finalized yet
18:12 but that looks like how it's going to go this wow how hard did I call this one
18:19 what one where AT&T the next next topic down oh the backs off halting their five
18:26 I have very bad memory when it comes to what we do on this show because we rap
18:29 it everything so much you don't even listen to me do you um I do you just do
18:32 your own I listen to you we should just split this this is a two-way relationship no we should split this
18:36 into two shows so the way it's going to work is Luke's going to get his mic I'm
18:40 going to get my mic have to dual stream it we're going to we're going to draw a
18:43 line down the middle of the couch like like 90 sitcom style draw the line split
18:49 the room you don't you don't touch my side of the line and then we'll have two
18:53 channels of audio so those of you who want to listen to me can just put in the
18:57 one side those of you who want to listen to the other one put on the other side anyone with speakers you're hooped so
19:03 let's go ahead and uh switch over to my screen here finally loaded I'm done
19:06 stalling we'd have to do like the Acappella kind of thing where we both
19:09 talk about the same topic at the same time but say different words how's that
19:12 Acappella don't well don't they uh you'll be singing a song but you can
19:16 sing different parts of it it's not it's not AC but it's common
19:23 in AC cappella for different people in the group to be singing different parts
19:26 of the song So What the show's about Acappella now all right let's he our demo do you do any Acappella no
19:33 Nick actually Nick to my I've never heard him sing but my understanding is
19:38 he's actually really good um so AT&T
19:42 sees delays on fiber roll outs of two to three years but uh the one thing that
19:47 they have completely gone back on is
19:51 their CEO came out and said blah blah
19:55 Obama blah blah blah support net neutrality blah blah well that whole
20:00 plan we had to roll out fiber to 100
20:03 metropolitan areas you guys actually paid for and then we just took the money
20:06 from we're just going to sit on our butts and not do anything until we know
20:11 how the laws are going to be going to blah blah blah we we're not going to
20:15 invest in this unless we know what we're getting out of it and so they have since
20:19 uh revised that statement because it's ridiculous what you're just going to
20:23 completely like whether it's whether it's whether it's managed the same way
20:27 as phone lines where you know there's uh
20:30 they have to have neutrality you can't prefer one connection over another one
20:34 whether it's managed that way or some other way uh it's still very profitable
20:39 phone lines are fantastic phone lines are still profitable and that gets managed that way so it's just a matter
20:44 of it's a pure money grab so it's not like you're just going to completely
20:48 stop investing in the business that made you what you are because you're not
20:52 going to get your way about something so
20:56 um but they have said that it'll be be a 2 to three year delay I
21:00 mean I I I I don't I don't know if this
21:04 whole Google Fiber thing is working out the way Google wanted it to cuz they
21:08 never wanted to be an ISP my perception
21:11 and I could be totally wrong and Google can call me up on my cell phone I'm sure
21:14 they know my number they know everything about me um Google can call me up and
21:18 tell me look lineus you're wrong about this but my perception of this was that
21:21 Google never wanted to be a player as an ISP they just wanted to do it like once
21:27 and be like yo world please talk about
21:30 this and yo isps it doesn't cost that
21:34 freaking much yall need to like get your crap together and start doing this I
21:38 don't think they wanted to be rolling it out to city after city after City that
21:42 wasn't the point but now it kind of
21:45 might be now with AT&T and stuff doing
21:49 stuff like this like screw you don't build lines who cares go in the corner
21:53 and die let people like Google come in and build actually good stuff and let
21:57 everyone move over to them I read something I think I don't remember if it
22:01 an imager Reddit something it was one of those kind of websites uh where someone
22:04 was talking about um just for the headline and I was like what the hell I
22:08 had to click on the picture but it was um it's like when that hot girl moves in
22:12 next door and wants to hang out with you and now those girls that used to live
22:16 next door are clawing for your attention and then you click on it and it shows
22:20 like a Google Fiber building being built I'm like oh my God that's so true and
22:24 hopefully they build these buildings everywhere so that that happens because
22:29 everyone's going to want to get Google Fiber and then AT&T and all those other
22:32 buttheads will have to be better or else they will crawl in a corner and die and
22:36 I think everyone would be okay with that this is kind of funny I I have no way of
22:40 validating any of this but I kind of I kind of have to acknowledge this I just
22:44 got a text yep you're right about Google Fiber foral former Google
22:49 employee well I don't think it was even a secret I mean that was what they
22:53 pretty much said publicly is like this is the point of this we don't want to be
22:57 an ISP this is not our business screw
23:01 off go do what you're supposed to be
23:04 doing we don't want to do this we want
23:07 to make self-driving cars we want to build cool crap that goes on your wrist
23:11 and on your glasses we don't want to just like lay down
23:16 fiber but they're the best at it because they don't hate everyone including their
23:20 customers um speaking of laying down fiber so our original Source here is ARS
23:26 Technica I I just love the name of their site I know it's ours but it looks like
23:31 ours um where are we going what a great site uh I went down a lot yeah what the
23:36 what you talking about okay so this is um oh yeah so Shino Kansas a town of
23:42 roughly 9,000 people awesome people yeah
23:46 awesome people by the way petitioning the state to allow it to offer greater
23:50 access to the high-speed fiber Network that it built to support Town utility
23:54 operations AT&T filed to officially
23:59 intervene in the case all right so any
24:02 decision made by the KCC could impact AT&T's business operations in the area
24:07 which is why we asked to intervene in the proceedings an AT&T rep said RS
24:12 Technica reports that sheno oh here we go hold on a second let me just uh would
24:15 charge it citizens just $40 a month for one gigabit service which is only $5
24:21 more than the discounted like six-month entry rate
24:25 which you probably have to sign onto a contract for so it'll be way more
24:28 expensive after for six uh six megabit
24:31 service AT&T also includes a hard data
24:34 cap of uh 150 gigs a month and exceeding
24:38 that costs you $10 per month um sheno
24:42 officials think the state will rule in their favor hopefully they do yeah so
24:47 this is guys in Shin yeah I would love
24:50 to see more towns do this just you know
24:53 what if the isps aren't going to treat
24:57 the internet like it's just a a part of like it's a
25:01 utility if they're not going to do it then fine the city should just build
25:05 their own utilities you know the way it works for every other
25:10 utility and since we've finally got to the point where we don't need that
25:16 existing infrastructure like that whole deal with these private companies owning
25:21 all of the phone lines all over the entire country well we've got an
25:25 opportunity right now where those phone lines aren't really need it anymore so
25:29 if it's time to invest and they don't want to move into the next Century of
25:34 communications then okay okay take it
25:38 back City I would happily submit my tax
25:41 dollars I would happily if the if the city said look we're going to spend 1%
25:46 of all the tax money that we collect on upgrading the internet in this city and
25:50 booting out the isps that are just have been crapping on it the entire time I'd
25:55 say you know what I love the garbage collection service I have from the city
25:59 city seems to be doing a bang up job of the kind of stuff that they spend my
26:02 money on build me the internet I'll give you 2% heck I'll give you 5% I will pay
26:08 more taxes if the city's doing the kinds of things that really are meaningful to
26:12 me like that so that's a good point because like I've always kind of talked
26:17 about obviously not on the W show but how like uh phone lines are actually
26:21 really impressive infrastructure and then stuff like garbage collection you
26:25 don't notice it cuz it's never really going wrong isn't it amazing that's
26:29 beautiful if we could have that with the internet that would be fantastic if if
26:33 my internet maybe was you know not the fastest thing but if it arrived as
26:38 reliably as my garbage truck I want it to be fast ignore that
26:43 your garbage truck is pretty quick
26:46 though who clocks a garbage truck it's
26:50 is it is it regular ours at work is regular
26:55 yes U so anyway AT&T I wish I was
26:58 wearing a keep on digging shirt today because you guys are just yahoos you
27:03 guys are the poop heads this week yeah I don't think we have any Ubisoft topics
27:07 actually the crew seems totally fine I was benchmarking it today oh yeah do you
27:11 want to talk about that a bit uh I don't really have a ton to talk about I didn't see any um like manual save option which
27:17 I think makes sense because I'm pretty sure it's like an MMO so what I did was
27:21 just when you first drop into the game I believe it's the start of a tutorial
27:24 Mission um you get into what's kind of like a cop chase uh some guy calls you
27:29 up and he's like oh what are you doing he's like I'm being chased by cops he's
27:33 like you better get out of that because you have a race tonight and then that's all I've seen of the game so far um so I
27:39 I I race towards the objective and then I get to the objective my two-minute Benchmark is not done so I U-turn and go
27:45 back and then the two-minute Benchmark ends and I close the whole game and then
27:50 just do it again a lot of great discussion about uh whether uh whether
27:54 internet infrastructure should be handled by the government or not and one person brought up a point of well what
27:58 if your government decides to Blacklist certain websites well they're already
28:02 buddy buddy anyway if your government wants to Blacklist something or spy on you it's not like they're not already
28:06 doing it yes and I'm not I don't mean for that to be like a defeatist we
28:10 should just accept that they're going to spy on us we should and censor us uh but
28:15 the fact of the matter is if they're not already doing it they're probably not
28:19 going to because they already can depending on the legislation and the and
28:23 the government in place in Canada it's less of an issue for now but we'll see
28:28 spy Palace thing we'll see what Captain H Prett I wish they'd stopped voting
28:31 that guy in yeah this the first time I've ever we shouldn't talk about
28:35 politics on the show it's the first time I've ever wished that I was in
28:40 America because in America you can only serve two terms
28:45 Max there is no other reason why I would wish I was let's continue to not talk
28:50 about politics and move on with the show
28:54 I'm just talking about like steam broadcasting uh
28:58 oh speaking of actually speaking of politics was Sony hacked by North Korea
29:03 oh yeah so um so Sony Pictures is has a movie
29:10 slated for release pretty shortly here I'm just going to go ahead and pop that
29:14 link in there where it's called the interview where oh who's playing these
29:20 who's playing the characters I don't know I pay so little attention to to
29:23 movies these days it's the yeah I don't know Seth Rogan and James frco uh play
29:29 two reporters who are granted an audience with Kim Jong Un do they
29:35 pineapples go Express trains the CIA then enlists the pair to assassinate him
29:40 and North Korea described the film as an act of war and an undisguised sponsoring
29:45 of terrorism and called on the US and un to block it um sorry North Korea that's
29:51 really not the way at works here blocking a film because it's about and
29:56 like can you can you imag imagine if every film about trying to assassinate a
30:00 US president was banned there's no more
30:04 action films they're all they're all
30:08 gone every movie that every action star
30:11 ever made I mean and if we censor things the way that North Korea does we would I
30:15 mean we'd be removing the IMDb entire entries
30:20 for entire action Stars yeah yeah
30:24 exactly yeah action as a genre would become like
30:29 what was it Scorpion King that's like it it's pretty much the only thing there's
30:33 more I'm sure so this Cyber attack uh several films were stolen and released
30:37 so unreleased films were released in full quality um it was rumored and I
30:42 haven't followed up on this but it was rumored at the time it was happening that the PlayStation 4 I want to say
30:47 source code was stolen oh no like a bunch of stuff was stolen I know it was
30:52 bad I haven't looked exactly into what happened the unreleased film thing is
30:55 pretty intense PlayStation 4 source code that's uh yeah yeah no I I it might have
31:00 been Playstation 3 or something can't can't remember all the details but um
31:04 Sony needs to wake the hell up yeah this isn't the first time they've been uh
31:09 they've been hit and had a major leak like this yeah so uh that's my that's my
31:14 point as to why they need to wake this dock is huge I can't find anything right
31:18 um but yeah they need to clue in stop holding things and plain text entire
31:23 Excel sheets with people's passwords that's not acceptable on any level for
31:27 anyone I don't think even I have Excel
31:30 sheets of passwords that's just stupid you have a picture do I what passwords
31:36 are they a lot of them really yeah what pict do you have this picture cuz I
31:40 don't I found it and was like wow that's dumb and then kept on looking for
31:44 whatever I was looking for oh all right apparently have a picture at least at
31:48 least it's harder it might not exist anymore I found that a long time ago and
31:51 a picture would actually be potentially more secure than a plain text document
31:55 it's a lot harder to scrub through bot wouldn't well a bot you probably
32:01 wouldn't make it look for that cuz that wouldn't make you could make it look for
32:04 that but it probably wouldn't look for an Excel sheet in a
32:09 picture yeah might look for text in general in a picture yeah but it's much
32:13 less likely than like scrubbing Word and Excel documents cuz it's way easier to
32:18 just scrub Word and Excel documents all right so let's go ahead
32:23 and move on to steam offering game
32:27 streaming wow this is very interesting steam is determined valve is just
32:30 determined to do all the things I think if if I have this I don't know if I have
32:34 this or not because it's a beta client thing right yeah just everyone with the this is open to everyone who uses steam
32:39 as long as you opt into the Beta client okay so I guess I do have it I might try
32:43 it tonight just to kind of give it a shot yeah just to see how it works it is
32:48 not very featur rich yet of course I'm I just yeah yeah so I don't think it even
32:54 supports a webcam yet although guys correct me in twitch chat if I'm wrong
32:57 yeah yeah for sure and like with all the steam stuff it changes so rapidly that
33:02 who knows um but what I might even do is just be streaming on Twitch and
33:06 theny start steam streaming while I'm streaming on Twitch and just see what
33:10 happens so what's cool is and I was saying in the uh in the intro for the
33:14 show today that this feels a little bit more natural a way to start watching
33:20 someone game than now they getting to a site like twitch and I don't think that
33:23 twitch is going to go away because I think for major events twitch is going
33:27 to be the go-to destination for a long
33:31 time and I mean long time in the internet sense it could change tomorrow
33:35 but assuming nothing changes for the foreseeable future twitch is going to be
33:40 the destination for that but for people who don't even know what twitch TV is
33:45 like I've never heard of it there's more people than you would think which is a
33:48 lot of people a lot of Gamers even something like this is a lot more
33:51 natural like hey my buddy's playing Dota
33:55 or my buddy's playing Team Fortress and all you do is you click on it and you
34:00 spectate the game what a natural way to do that because the thing about twitch
34:05 is there's there's a lot of the the way it's structured is it's great for
34:10 creators to interact with viewers and it's great for concurrent viewers to
34:15 interact with each other but beyond that the the social infrastructure of the
34:20 site is not very deep not compared to something like steam where you can
34:24 transfer files to each other you can trade in-game items you can chat with
34:28 each other in group chats individually
34:31 and you can voice chat with each other like it's more it's a very social
34:35 platform so for someone who's not interested in watching a stream but is
34:40 interested in chatting with Buddy while they play a game what a great way to do
34:46 that so I I could see this being pretty cool for a few reasons like uh if if
34:51 someone doesn't feel like streaming at the time cuz streaming on
34:54 Twitch I think one thing that people don't understand is like stream games on
34:58 Twitch isn't isn't just playing the game and happening to have other people
35:02 watching you it's Bradas it's broadcasting you your you're live you
35:07 have to be it's it's energy draining it's not the easiest thing on the planet
35:11 but if like your buddy at home is working on homework but wants to see how
35:16 your DOTA matches are going it could be cool for him to be able to just tune in
35:20 and then it's just you and him maybe on Skype or vent or team speak or whatever
35:24 that's much more relaxing just you and your buddy hanging out instead of you
35:28 streaming to unknown amounts of people yeah and it just it feels a lot more
35:33 like the old days when you know it was a single player game yeah and even if you
35:37 had two controllers you had to take turns and you know just kind of sitting
35:41 and watching and and playing a game together like that's I I think it's very
35:45 cool I think it's pretty cool I I don't think it's going to do anything in terms
35:48 of like trumping twitch because it doesn't seem that doesn't seem like
35:51 their goal at all I think this is another cool way to interact with your
35:55 buddies on Steam I've got someone asking if I ever never found the list of of
35:59 gifs of Team fanatic pixel blocking it was actually a list of um I keep
36:03 forgetting his fleshes fl's like just a
36:07 panic button Aimbot where he just presses a button and snaps to the head
36:11 of the nearest opponent through walls or through whatever through two walls and
36:15 four boxes it just magically goes to his head and no I never looked for it again
36:18 so I haven't found it yeah all right Smash Bros on Wii U uh this is from game
36:24 nesia I don't think I'm going to talk about this a great deal but
36:28 watch out um some people's consoles are
36:32 actually bricking so I've heard a lot of mixed information about this um some
36:37 people are saying it's Smash Bros some people are saying it's just a lot of people are playing Smash Bros right now
36:41 which makes a ton of sense um some people are saying it's based off as smro
36:46 patch we don't know what's causing it so watch out maybe someone does but
36:51 there's so many different people saying so many different things that I don't want to say a confirmation you know I
36:55 would love to do a comedy sketch just a
36:58 warning so just the most random random
37:01 warning and then like people reacting to it so if you just put like a caution
37:06 sign like in the middle of nowhere with no obvious danger around it like how
37:11 would people react to that you'd be looking for you'd be looking for the
37:14 danger right oh my God it would be fun to like if you're walking through a park
37:19 and like you find other people that are walking through the park and just like
37:23 have you and your buddy in yellow vest like jog at a fairly fast not running
37:27 but jog at fairly fast pace run ahead of them and then just right in the middle of the walkway just put it like a pike
37:32 sign into oh my God and then just run back and then just just getting getting
37:37 people's reactions what a great entertaining all right so next up we've
37:43 got our we've got our last topic before the sponsor break but this one is one
37:47 that's obviously going to get his panties all wet more Tesla news we
37:52 should just change the show to not Oculus anymore because there hasn't been
37:56 much coming of oculus lately just Tesla
38:00 wait for CES though wait for CES there's Oculus and I can't remember the name of
38:03 them right now but another VR company that have booths really close to each other he sends me an email or like
38:09 Hangouts message in like the middle of the night um call Debs call Debs I'm
38:13 like I'm not going to those booths as if you have to call dibs on the Oculus
38:18 Booth I I'm going to buy an Oculus and I'm going to play the crap out of V
38:22 Valkyrie but like I'm not as into it as
38:27 want to make sure we're all on the same page we're on the same page you're on
38:31 your own page but I'm aware of the page and that's fine yeah okay yeah all right
38:36 so this is uh from gizmodo.com and
38:40 there's actually the the model S like if
38:44 we couldn't have imagined a way that it could get better yeah musk can so what
38:49 what do we got knowing knowing Tesla it's going to cost a bunch more money
38:52 but you don't have to go with this option so it's another version of the model S there's an additional front
38:56 motor I hate that they're calling it the new Tesla Model S I hope they do
39:01 something no I I think um the idea
39:04 behind it is when you pick a Model S you pick like the Baseline version and
39:08 there's multiple versions so it's probably not the new like how Nintendo
39:11 does with the little like sticker symbol thing new new nintend Mario Brothers Wii
39:16 U plused Galaxy time I don't think they're
39:21 doing that what I'm expecting is happening is when you go to configure your Model S when you're ordering it
39:25 it's a different base like start line right cuz there's like the the the like
39:30 the more like not as fast not as great battery style but cheaper one and then
39:35 like there's all the different versions right so so what improvements do we get
39:38 here other than the one that I obviously spoiled on the uh thing on my side here
39:42 the dual motors yeah you get an additional front motor which uh has 221
39:47 brake horsepower bringing the car's total power up to Super carlik 691 brake
39:52 horsepower which is pretty intense the combined torque is even more impressive
39:56 at 9 31 Newton m going uh growing from
40:02 362 which is actually kind of insane and the car weighs 2239 kg they're comparing
40:08 it to well okay I think this Gizmodo
40:12 website is comparing it I don't think Tesla is to the new Dodge Challenger
40:16 Hellcat which produces 707 brake horsepower and 881 Newton met of torque
40:21 and weighs a little bit less actually at 2018 kg um now
40:28 obviously one thing that has to be brought up is like they're comparing it
40:31 to the Hellcat the Hellcat is like this crazy massive like gasoline petrol based
40:38 engine and they're comparing an electric engine to it these things are going to
40:41 perform very differently electric motor to be Elric motor yes sorry uh they're
40:46 going to perform very differently so you can't just be like look at these numbers
40:51 they're exactly referential to this other completely different thing um it's
40:56 not necessarily Fair um to the Hellcat because the Tesla
41:00 actually has a faster Z to 0 to 100 so
41:04 yes actually most definitely um so what is it 3.2 seconds to the hellcat's 3.7
41:10 seconds so not an insignificant difference but then the what I was
41:13 talking about though is like so you you've got that 0 to 0 to 60 or I think
41:17 that's also the Hellcat looks for donkey that's 0 to 100 yeah so it's a 0 to 60
41:22 basically um yeah and then but their top
41:25 speeds Tesla's Max speed is 250 kmph
41:29 Dodge's max speed or the the hellcat's max speed is 328 kmph now Max Speed is
41:35 never been something that makes any sense to me I totally agree and I like
41:38 the Tesla setup more I just I'm trying to make sure that everyone is on the
41:42 same page that these are very different as a as as a as like a an a biker like I
41:48 love sport bikes I I my sport bike doesn't have a great top speed I think
41:52 it only does around 220 km an hour I I
41:55 say I think because I've never tested did that um but off the line I mean you
42:00 can't touch it it's a motorbike um and so I would much rather have I mean
42:04 especially driving on the streets you can always when you want to there's the
42:09 red light that's way too close when you want to have fun driving on the street
42:13 your only options really are quick acceleration you can't go fast you're
42:18 going to hurt someone so being able to go from you know 0 to 100 in no time
42:24 flat when you're merging onto the highway is really the only time you're ever going to
42:28 let it out and so you know a top speed of 250 kilm per hour is L more than fine
42:33 yeah uh and I completely agree with that whole idea but I'm just again just
42:37 trying to make sure that people understand these are two extremely different beasts and should be looked at
42:42 in different lights whichever one you like more so we're still 5 to six years
42:45 away from a true self driving car thanks musk but the new model S has an
42:50 incredible array of sensors that are intended to better inform the driver of
42:54 conditions around the car and which can take some limited control to avoid
42:58 crashes so some of the things it can do with the what all does it have on it I
43:02 can't even can't even remember long range radar image recognition Camera 360
43:07 ultrasonic radar and GPS data integration with real-time traffic so if
43:11 you signal on the highway it can change lanes for you when it's safe kind of
43:15 cool um it can detect oncoming obstacles
43:18 like a sudden obstruction say for example I they don't give this example
43:22 but I would think something like a deer or a moose running out onto the road and
43:26 it can autom Ally apply the Break
43:29 um yeah can check blind spots I'm super
43:33 into the 360° alter Sonic radar that's super cool I like that a lot love all
43:38 this stuff uh you still haven't been in one right I have never yeah okay at
43:44 um c yeah there we go we we got it
43:47 eventually I got to see one and that was by far the coolest thing about that
43:50 entire show but anyways um ah gear VR
43:54 was pretty cool anyways uh it's pretty cool and
43:58 like the whole how the handles go in the car for aerodynamic reasons right even
44:02 if you just ignore the fact that that's for aerodynamic reasons it's pretty
44:05 badass you have to have the key in your pocket but like you walk up to the car and put your hand out it's just like oh
44:11 that's cool I still see stuff like that as a bit of an over engineering thing
44:16 it's another thing to break from my perspective but then I I don't know that
44:21 the the typical customer for a Model S
44:24 cares if it breaks 10 years down the line they'll probably have a new car by
44:28 then yeah and and I wouldn't be surprised if on the like much more
44:31 reasonable version which is going to come out in however long which is
44:34 supposed to be like 30 whatever thousand the D pry is that the D I thought that
44:39 was I think that's the D Maybe I'm Wrong maybe it's I don't think that's the D no
44:43 sorry the D is more than that if I recall correctly yeah go ahead um
44:46 anyways uh I I seriously doubt that car is going to have the automatically rece
44:50 yeah so yeah it's no big deal all right
44:54 so Stephen Hawking is getting an upgrade
44:58 courtesy of Intel and of all people swift key so he's been using the same
45:04 system for oh Lord how long is it can't
45:07 remember it's in the article here but it's been uh it's been for over a decade
45:12 if I recall correctly and uh Mr Hawking
45:16 sorry Professor Hawking is not interested in some of the new
45:19 technologies like it tracking but was uh
45:23 but did work with them on a new more predictive uh style of input uh some
45:28 rearranging of the menus and then now that the whole thing or once the whole
45:33 thing is finished being developed what's cool is that Intel is going to make the
45:36 whole source code open source so many badass things were just said I I love
45:41 that swift key is working on this um I love that Intel is working on this I
45:44 love that they're releasing everything publicly um I'm actually super down with
45:49 him not being into eye tracking because all of the ey tracking demos that I've
45:52 used so far were kind of trash so I
45:55 completely understand why he's not into that um I think this is great this is
46:02 really cool there's a really cool comment on the swift key blog um from a
46:06 17-year-old who's suffering from the same thing as uh as Professor Hawking
46:11 and who basically said yeah I mean my computer software is so outdated that I
46:16 can't upgrade from XP it has no support for new operating systems and swift key
46:20 already already engaged here and talking about you know uh we we'd like to have
46:25 someone from our team Reach Out out to chat further about our work in the area I mean this
46:30 is think people when I complain about no
46:34 swift key on iOS or I complain about the fact that swift key is kind of rubbish
46:38 on iOS still um people think that I'm talking about swipe typing I'm not I
46:43 hate swipe no I don't use it either I don't use Swipe at all but I do use the swift key keyboard because their
46:48 predictive text is really good pretty good performance it's been a little
46:52 worse lately for me but pretty good performance and way smarter than most of
46:56 the other ones I've used because it actually looks at my history so the
47:01 system that they're building here I'm assuming would also be a learning
47:05 predictive model that uh that actually gears itself towards the things that you
47:09 that you usually say it's it's awesome yeah really cool do you sync it with
47:13 like everything like yeah yeah me too I know some people that don't and I'm just
47:17 like ah I want my texting to slowly I'm slowly getting more getting away from
47:22 like the shorthand texting stuff cuz with full keyboards it's faster so like
47:26 what ever and if it's predicting so well
47:30 if I need to type something long usually within the first three or four letters it figures it out anyways right so I I
47:35 sync it with my email which I try to write in more full sentences and I'm
47:39 trying to move everything to better better grammar and better formatting so
47:43 I like that swift key actually works for that all right so it's sponsor time our
47:48 first sponsor spot today is squarespace.com go to squarespace.com

48:05 don't know your like weird fascination with beads U what whatever you might
48:10 want a website for a really good idea is just an extension of your resume
48:14 actually not a single person who applied
48:17 for our recent opening had their own
48:21 website well one person did and I clicked on it and it was down oh so the
48:26 great thing about Squarespace they probably should have been on Squarespace it's extremely affordable only $8 a
48:31 month and if you sign up for an entire year then not only do you get access to
48:35 all of their great tools so their online website builder their affordable stock
48:40 images that you can use to make sure it looks nice and beautiful their logo
48:44 designer their built-in Commerce module their 247 tech
48:49 support all that good stuff you also get your domain thrown in for free if you
48:54 sign up for a year so you want to have a beautiful website you want to have
48:58 integration with Google apps for your business all that great stuff then head
49:02 over to squarespace.com Linus to save up to
49:07 10% exactly 10% very specifically 10%
49:10 someone's going to get 99.9% off and I'm going to get a an Irate email someone's
49:15 going to do the math and it's going to be like close to 10% but not exactly or
49:19 it'll be slightly more than 10% no gu I just I no yeah I said up to 10% so if
49:22 it's more if if Squarespace ever offers someone a Deeper Discount than 10% % I'm
49:27 a liar speaking of being a liar I'm not
49:31 lying about I am in San Jose this is going on from December 6th to 7th so
49:36 that is this weekend tomorrow and Sunday and in addition to the competition and
49:40 showcase Intel's going well okay so Intel is of course the presenting
49:44 sponsor of the Intel extreme Masters it's right in the name and then they're
49:48 also going to have a Showcase of a bunch of the latest Technologies they're also
49:51 going to have two new egg offers with full details available in the Forum
49:55 which will be linked in in the video description of the archive or presumably
49:59 it's up there already and Nick's already dealt with this uh one of them is to
50:03 save $100 on select items including the ASUS G20 so that's their little tiny
50:09 gaming machine as well oh I just got a
50:12 tweet from the person whose resume I
50:16 clicked on their website and it didn't work I was planning on hosting my
50:20 website locally dude get
50:25 Squarespace oh jeez um okay so including the G20 and two of
50:30 their gaming notebooks so the G20 is that little tiny gaming machine that's
50:33 very console like in no way at all other
50:37 than its size because it's a full-fledged PC and can hold up to a
50:40 dual Slot full power um uh PCI Express
50:45 16x graphics card also deal number two is you can get free games and software
50:49 with the purchase of a core i5 or core i7 processor so they have a green screen
50:54 like twoin one photo thing on sitee where they'll be drawing to win one of
50:58 two core i7 processors every day they're going to have a drawing for those at
51:02 home where if you take a photo and upload it to Twitter with the uh with a
51:06 tag for Intel USA so add Intel USA and
51:09 use the official hashtag Hashem you'll be entered to win a COR i7
51:14 processor make your photo interesting like show off how you're watching I from
51:18 home for example to stand out from the pack so make sure you check out all the
51:21 pro competition at the event all weekend
51:25 all right our last sponsor spot for today is actually a new one and this
51:30 one's going to be kind of fun so we'll just leave this here I'm so excited now
51:33 I have to disclose that Loot Crate sent this to us free of charge because we're
51:37 talking about Loot Crate and it's like a sponsor spot so we didn't actually like
51:42 we didn't actually buy it I'm sorry but if you guys aren't familiar with here do
51:46 you want to do the do you want to do the unboxing sure all right so if you guys
51:50 aren't familiar with Loot Crate basically you sign up and every month
51:54 they deliver epic geek and game gear for
51:57 just and even the price is geeky 1337
52:01 really yeah I didn't even know that one thing I want to point out is how tightly
52:04 packed it is I noticed this like immediately like this is a shirt they
52:09 definitely the Box uh actually pretty good yeah I'm talking about the Green
52:13 Bay Packers you played football I did but not not for the Green Bay Packers
52:17 all right um so what are we talking
52:21 about right so this is uh this is I believe this is November's crate so it
52:26 includes all the stuff that he's holding up right now so what do we got is a
52:30 shirt yeah Pirates versus ninjas shirt
52:33 okay and I'm assuming that you they find out your T-shirt size or something ahead
52:37 of time this is a large so this one's for you I guess they found out my t-shirt you just you just earned a shirt
52:42 yay another shirt that I don't have to
52:47 buy uh this one includes the yeah so that's a Mega Man helmet and collectible
52:52 stand so you're going to have to open that up for sure um the December crate
52:56 is going to be the biggest one they've ever delivered sizewise so now is a
52:59 great time to sign up with offer code Linus and save 10% so you save what a
53:05 do 34 I guess which makes the Price Less
53:10 exciting well more exciting but less geeky less geeky less geeky so they're
53:14 going to have exclusives from DC Comics and Batman and Marvel SLG Guardians of
53:18 the Galaxy they're going to have an exclusive Ghostbusters collectible
53:22 Tetris and Simpsons Collectibles and a brand new Funko Pop vinyl figure created
53:27 exclusively for loot crates so December's crate is going to have a bunch of like crazy exclusive stuff what
53:31 else we got in here well here's the helmet okay there's your Mega Man helmet
53:36 oh it's a Halo like grenade drop pod I
53:39 think it's a is it a grenade I think it's a drop pod yeah it's a drop pod so
53:42 it includes it includes a super posable micro action figure I feel like I feel
53:48 like I feel like the old unboxing days oh my goodness just like opening up like
53:53 some random thing just being like
53:56 what is this I don't know how does it work look there's ports on it these are
54:00 all the fan headers on the motherboard this is what it says on the box so it's
54:04 a metallic series figure uh 19 pieces
54:08 eight plus so you're not going to want to give this metallic series figure to
54:13 your seven-year-old unless your seven-year-old is really clever what do
54:19 you got what else we got in here oh oh okay oh that's a little tiny it's a
54:24 little tiny Master Chief
54:28 I need my knife what do you got what is that it's a street fighter
54:36 headband you can this is
54:39 amazing anytime I suck at fighting games anytime I fight a play a fighting game
54:43 in the future I will be wearing my Street Fighter headband this is is this
54:47 like a oh it's a Mega Bloks Halo guy so
54:50 it comes with a little Mega Blocks like
54:53 block like a 2 by a 2x4 block and then
54:57 he stands on it or doesn't oh oh does he
55:01 stand on it maybe he has to stand on the front he has to stand yeah there we go I
55:04 just had to fix this posture and it comes with a little tiny gun and of
55:08 course it's a pistol because uh because this is so so Halo one but what else you
55:13 got here this appears to oh oh he's got a backpack there we go I'm liking my
55:19 master chief what else you got there's an Assassin's Creed coin so it's from
55:23 Unity so like if you if the game is lagging out so so much that you can't
55:26 spend coins in game you can like pretend to spend coins in real life yeah I mean
55:31 in in loot crate's defense this coin was probably arranged before they knew the
55:35 game was going to suck donkey crap and uh and like if if if if this was
55:39 Assassin's Creed 4 and they and this had showed up before Assassin's Creed 4 and
55:43 this was a coin from Assassin's Creed 4 you would probably be super stoked you
55:46 know what and it's it's actually a really nice coin too if we do this just
55:49 right it kind of looks like a four on the back there you go yeah so you could
55:53 pretend it's Assassin's Creed 4 Black FL
55:56 and then you could just yeah okay well it does say Unity on the front of it so
56:00 you could just never look at it on that yeah put it down on the table turn this
56:04 into your Tru coin so you cross out the unity side and then it's
56:09 like yeah oh it doesn't die because
56:13 it's cuz it's the more generic Assassin's Creed logo instead of the
56:17 okay okay well funny that's not bad for 13 bucks yeah it's actually pretty cool
56:22 and you also get a little pin Loot Crate November 2014 Battle Theme so they have
56:25 different different themes and stuff I was talking to Nick about it and I was like in I like when whenever it happens
56:32 just in case my brother's watching this like I'm not asking you to have one
56:35 obviously but it whenever it happens if my brother has a baby what I would do is
56:41 just get Loot Crate and then like every time that once it's older uh every time
56:45 that it like comes to hang out with me I can be that cool uncle that like has all
56:48 that cool nerd swag stuff and I'll just be like here you get these things and
56:51 and they'll be like wow how did you find such cool nerd swag and they'll be like
56:56 I tirelessly I pretty much hunt for this stuff all around the world I eBay yeah
57:01 every day for my entire life y to have
57:04 all this cool swag hunt down these little things yeah all right speaking of
57:09 things that I'm just going to keep wearing the you you may do that if you
57:13 would if you would desire to do that all right let's move on to our next topic
57:17 here which is I remember making fun of this thing and basically my conclusion
57:23 being uh yeah that seems like a great idea in Theory oh sorry The Loot Crate
57:28 link is loot crate.com Linus Nick's all like yo dog you might not have actually
57:33 uh called that out loot crate.com Linus all right so uh this this oh man this
57:39 thing was so stupid I was like yeah I guess it seems like a good idea in
57:42 theory except that motion control is going to be completely impossible and it
57:47 looks way too big and the battery life is probably going to be rubbish and it
57:51 looks like I was 100% right the whole thing just looks garbage here we
57:56 so this this stupid thing this this ad
58:01 epic okay worst product ever made ring by log bar 1.2 million views from snazzy
58:07 Labs so here's their original crowdfunding campaign these guys raised
58:10 almost a million do to make this ring
58:14 that in theory yeah look at look at this thing look how big it is you can tap you
58:18 can gesture you can draw things in the air I think they even said that you
58:22 would be able to type so I'm not going we're not going to run this this the
58:26 same company that was like yeah you can play Halo with it I believe so I think
58:30 it was yes yes I believe it was and they showed someone like typing on a on an
58:35 onscreen keyboard on their TV so it has
58:39 shipped to the original backers and it is apparently complete garbage
58:46 um it was so they promised the features
58:49 gesture control text transmission payment information transmission receive
58:53 and alert receive alert functions compatible greater than iOS 7 and
58:57 Android 4.4 and uh the video the video that I
59:01 just showed you know what I should post this video in basically it's like the
59:05 worst thing ever and does nothing and doesn't work with anything and wasn't
59:10 that cheap and is a complete disaster and this this is the cautionary tale
59:16 that goes along with anyone who thinks they should that we should tell to
59:21 anyone who wants to fund something on a crowdfunding site there is actually one
59:26 two there are two crowdfunding campaigns that I backed just so that I could do
59:31 reviews of how crap it is when it arrives one is the jibbo robot because
59:37 it they're claiming so much I find I find hardware and like when there's when
59:41 there's physical rewards on things I actually shy away from it more like
59:44 stuff that I've backed that's worked out pretty well okay star isn't obviously is
59:49 not out yet I've had fun with it though the the dog fighting module stuff is
59:53 pretty good and it looks like it is actually going to happen so that's that's cool Shovel Knight I backed that
59:58 it came out it's awesome super happy with that but then I also have stories
60:02 like the dude who was supposed to make a cookbook and then just ran away with everyone's money um cuz he was like
60:07 it'll be a manly cookbook and like it he had like one example page and it was
60:11 hilarious it was so funny and I was like this is awesome cuz if it can make like
60:15 cooking entertaining and funny then that's cool um and then it just never
60:19 made more than one page oh who was it with that card game where they like
60:24 spent all the money on a new office and then they and like one company's debts
60:28 or their one their one employees debts or something yeah I don't I don't remember who that was and wasn't there
60:33 one not that long AG oh this was this was news this week this isn't in the
60:36 dock but um some some uh crap what were
60:40 they they were a game developer or something like that and they donated all the money to Anita
60:44 sarkeesian and uh and and they can't pay
60:47 they can't pay anyone back and it's like a big gigantic Fiasco and they're like
60:53 yeah I owe a lot of taxes so I can't afford to pay anyone back it's like yeah
60:56 your taxes are really not the problem of your backers who gave you money um wow
61:04 okay so let's go ahead and uh yeah so the ring total disaster oh Gundam Styles
61:09 view count right so yeah you want to go ahead and yeah where is
61:14 this okay so it has the counter has passed the I'm going to screw this up 2
61:19 b147 M48 3,647 view number which is when you're
61:25 Pro someone's going to scream at me cuz I'm probably going to say something ever so slightly wrong but when you're
61:29 programming you put things into what are essentially little containers so a uh
61:33 32-bit integer supports that number that
61:37 I just said and that integer supports a
61:40 number that is above zero I believe um
61:43 and up to that number so if they get above that number things go wrong
61:48 because it can no longer fit within that container the container is too small so
61:52 they upgraded to a 64-bit integer container which can hold the number that
61:55 I can't even say it's 9223372036854775807
62:25 actually kind of totally makes sense and that's pretty much all we actually have to say they have increased the possible
62:30 amount and gagum style will continue to go on as it always has being gnum style
62:36 yeah yeah being what Charlie bit my finger never could be
62:40 y all right oh this is really exciting
62:44 so ASUS is talking I I reached out to them about this already because we so
62:50 need to cover this but ASUS has a 20 um
62:55 a 27 7 in PB 279 QC coming so it's a PB
63:00 which means that it's not going to necessarily have the the same
63:04 pre-calibration as a PA but this is a 4K
63:09 27 in 10bit monitor with 100% srgb
63:13 coverage this thing looks freaking awesome and it's coming in at an
63:18 estimated $7.99 so under $800 sort of uh exactly
63:23 $800 27 in right yep for 27in 4k monitor
63:27 now 4K is still a bit of a mix bag on
63:32 the PC in particular due to the text and
63:35 UI element scaling issues that exist there but more affordable displays and
63:41 this will be 60 HZ over DisplayPort 30 HZ over HDMI so more affordable displays
63:46 being available will I think Drive adoption which will drive developers to
63:51 go ahead and make their stuff compatible so window very very exciting and for
63:55 gamers particular I would imagine at 27 in 4k anti-aliasing is a thing of the
64:00 past maybe 2x but I can't imagine needing any more than that 2x at 32in 4K
64:06 already looks pretty darn good to
64:09 me until Windows support is a billion times
64:13 better I'm still not super
64:16 interested okay Capa is dead say hello
64:21 to the new and improved Capa so for
64:24 those of you who aren't familiar with with Capa Capa is those horrible things
64:29 that a lot of the time you don't get right and you have to reenter a 100
64:34 times and then you have to re-enter your password and the capture but those little things with the images that are
64:38 like obscured and you're not really sure if you're typing the right thing to
64:42 validate that you are indeed a human and not a robot signing into the website so
64:47 this is the no capture recapture which
64:50 doesn't rely on just that technology
64:54 anymore so over to you it's going to
64:57 pre-screen your behavior and how you use the website to try and identify you as a
65:01 human or a robot if you take 0 five of a
65:04 second to go through the entire form and then try to click that you're a human
65:07 and not a robot it's probably going to be like nope you're pretty much a robot
65:11 not going to let you in so instead of just having you read all this crazy
65:15 annoying crap and entering it wrong four or five times in a row before you figure
65:19 out that it's case sensitive because some of them aren't uh it'll it'll just
65:22 pre-screen your behavior it'll also have other potential things
65:26 so it could have uh like two things going on so there's the pre-screening
65:30 thing and it could show you a picture of a cat and be like select a picture
65:33 that's similar not that they haven't already been doing this they just might
65:37 continue to use that style instead of the really hardto read text there's
65:42 actually I didn't even see this at the bottom of the page before but this is cool so brief history of captas so while
65:48 all of this may sound simple there's a high degree of sophistication behind
65:52 that modest checkbox so captas have relied on the inability of robots to
65:56 solve distorted text however they're saying that their research shows that
66:01 today's artificial intelligence can solve even the most difficult variant of
66:04 distorted text at 99.8% accuracy so not
66:07 only are these things annoying they're not even a deterrent for art for for AI
66:12 That's trying to get through it so the distorted text on its own is no longer a Dependable test so last year they
66:17 developed an advanced risk analysis backend for recapture that's actively
66:21 considers a user's entire engagement before during and after after to
66:26 determine whether the user is human very
66:29 very cool I've also seen other variants um I don't think these are necessarily
66:33 recapture but but other um validation
66:36 things like pick the one that corresponds to the other pictures and
66:39 they'll have pictures of like animals and you have to pick the cat you know
66:44 the so so so cool stuff like that but this should be until you it's always an
66:50 arms race so figures out how to beat it until you figure out how to make a robot
66:55 that perfectly can act like a human
66:59 being which I don't know robots have serious problems being random so we'll
67:03 see the cool thing about it though is that even if the robot finds a way to
67:09 behave in a way that fools the capture um it won't be fast you yeah that's true
67:14 I know it will be actually kind of entertaining though mhm trying to get
67:17 captas to think that you're a
67:21 robot um oh do you think you could do
67:25 that I I think you could um if you took like a mouse and were able to bind
67:30 things on your keyboard to change your DPI if you could change your X and Y DPI
67:36 so much that you moved in exact perfect lines I wonder if it would think you're
67:40 a robot if you only moved left and right
67:43 at a very specific time and if if you like messed with your mouse so it could only move at one speed ever no matter
67:48 how fast you moved it like if you used keyboard input yeah sure perfect
67:52 keyboard input and then like moved your mouse with your arrow keys don't think
67:55 it would think you're a robot you'd be too slow you'd be way too slow you
68:00 wouldn't click on like the precise spot where the want I want I kind of want to
68:04 see if I can make it a robot but there is I'll probably be too lazy but it
68:10 would be pretty entertaining there's no way you're going to be able to do that
68:14 if someone can make it think that they're a robot uh post it on the form
68:18 or something that would be entertaining all right copy link URL let's go ahead
68:22 and throw this in so Kmart joins Target in Australia pulling Grand Theft Auto 5
68:29 off its shelves in other news Big Box retailers
68:35 and the people who apparently petition
68:38 them to do things um probably need a
68:41 reality check on gaming yeah and
68:50 like and like the them thinking it's actually going to stop people from
68:54 getting it maybe they don't well okay I
68:57 do agree with voting with your wallet or
69:01 like vote putting your money where your mouth is and if you if you want to take
69:04 a stand on something you can't just not take a stand because no one else will
69:08 take a stand you know you kind of have to do things um they're not voting with
69:11 their wallet they were already voting with
69:15 their wallet by not buying the game I'm sure I'm sure like like they're voting with their
69:19 wallet by losing out on sales because
69:22 they take a they have a moral objection or whatever kind of what kind of
69:26 rejection so spokeswoman for the company announced on Thursday that the highly
69:29 popular series would be removed from shelves immediately following a significant review of their content this
69:35 misogynistic GTA 5 literally makes a game of bashing killing and horrific
69:39 violence against women the petition which has been signed by more than 40,000 people said you know what the
69:44 thing about GTA is is that it's bashing killing and horrific violence against
69:48 literally everyone yeah it's kind of how
69:52 it works I didn't play the whole game but up until the point that I had played
69:55 the the only like there was one thing
69:59 that actually made me pretty uncomfortable and it was directed at a
70:02 dude not a girl yeah and it was like a pretty
70:06 messed up scene actually was that a dud you know that any the promoting violence
70:12 against sex workers I mean this is not something that I'm advocating for and
70:17 personally not a huge fan of the whole GTA thing for me personally but I I I
70:24 don't think that pulling it out of a couple stores in Australia is really
70:27 going to stop the Juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto and I also don't
70:32 subscribe to the theory that violent video games make people violent I think
70:36 crazy people are crazy people and those crazy people might tend to you know act
70:41 out their fantasies NVIDIA games but those people were going to be crazy and
70:46 now anyway I'm going a route that I completely disagree with here so keep
70:50 that in mind but with the whole like oh there's tons of studies that say this and there's one that say this but uh
70:54 there has I believe there's been a recent study saying that violence in
70:58 video games May reduce violence in real life cuz they're able to yeah I remember
71:02 reading that one a little while back but I I I don't know if I necessarily buy
71:06 that either yeah no that's that's why I put that disclaimer on it you could
71:10 probably run the same study does playing an instrument reduce violence in real
71:14 life like people who have hobbies I think in general are less likely to yeah
71:18 that's that's actually probably a much better way to go about it people who
71:21 have a life are going to be less likely to want to ruin their own yeah yeah so
71:26 uh this is interesting now there's been a a severe shortage oh sorry I haven't
71:31 posted the link yet but there has been a serious shortage of good mechanical
71:36 wireless keyboards up till now and it looks like filco is seeking to address
71:41 this so this is an article from over on tech report and there it is filo's new
71:47 cherrymx keyboard has Bluetooth connectivity loving it kind of like that
71:52 as Bluetooth connectivity because it be could be kind of fun CU I believe you
71:56 change which Bluetooth connection it's trying to connect to uh through a
71:59 function key on the keyboard so which Bluetooth connection yeah I think it has
72:03 up to four oh I did not know that okay
72:06 the keyboard features both Bluetooth and a detachable USB cord with what looks
72:10 like a mini USB connector and when unplugged it runs off two AA batteries
72:14 that provide about 6 months of usage at about 5 hours per day yeah not half bad
72:21 try find this I was having while I was benchmarking today I tried to get Nick
72:24 to go in there and just like read topics off to me and I I know he said there was
72:28 I think he said there was more than one um one of four Bluetooth sources
72:34 function and number key shortcuts that's really cool so if you could just be like on your computer then be like ah I have
72:38 to send this big thing on my phone but like I don't want to set up Air Droid or
72:41 whatever that is the smartest thing ever you just have your phone on a little
72:45 stand yeah just function key off type whatever you need to do function key
72:48 back on it's like it's like Apple's continuity except not Apple's continuity
72:53 at all because you're still using it on your phone but you just pair it over and
72:56 Bluetooth pairing is so fast these days that is freaking awesome now one
73:01 obstacle for this keyboard is this really is a niche product because
73:05 Bluetooth is something that's really not
73:08 included with most desktop computers and fullsize 104 key Magis touch mechanical
73:14 keyboards are not the kind of thing most people use on their laptops but if you
73:19 had an office say for example that you took a laptop to every day and you just
73:24 had this Wireless keyboard and then you had a little stand for your phone next to it being able to switch between them
73:29 and then close everything up and book it at the end of the day that's freaking
73:32 awesome I love this product and jumping over to your recent handy Tech episode
73:36 which people should watch CU it's awesome if you get one of those like internal USB header to USB plug adapter
73:43 things and then just plug a Bluetooth dongle onto there there you're good
73:47 problem solved all right so this is um this is
73:52 actually pretty cool Finland today cursive handwriting for typing and
73:58 texting skills so let's go ahead and copy the link
74:03 hereo all right let's fire this up um
74:07 honestly makes a ton of sense every time I hear about some completely Legacy
74:12 nonsense being ditched for you know some
74:16 actually useful skill so cursive writing
74:20 I don't imagine either of my kids will read or write incursive unless they get
74:24 into calligraphy as a hobby I don't even know how well I could do it anymore I I
74:28 think you would discover you pick it up again extr I just thought in my head how I would write like and like it took me a
74:33 second yeah I got it but like if I just had to sit there and write a whole paragraph out it would take me a while
74:38 okay well whatever we're not sharing tweak Town site anymore the entire
74:41 purpose uh I think this is cool I wish it was happening sooner I'm sure that's
74:45 probably because they have to write out like the curriculum and how they're going to run these classes and St
74:49 already gone in Canada so yeah yeah yeah yay Canada was ahead of Finland on
74:53 something uh are we replacing it with typing and texting skills or did we just
74:56 ditch the class not texting typing yeah we've had typing forever though and I'm
75:00 sure they have typing as well yeah um anyways so it's not happening until
75:05 Autumn 2016 so it's still not happening for a while but plans are in motion
75:09 which is cool um this is from The Verge Obama to provide funding for police body
75:14 cameras so this is all in the wake of the uh the recent uh the recent
75:19 conclusion of the whole Michael Brown thing where the police officer was let
75:24 off off and you know whether that was the correct decision or not the correct
75:28 decision is not something that we're going toach on this show but the point
75:33 is um Obama has pushed through I think
75:36 it was 300 million or so in funding 236
75:41 263 million in funding for body cameras
75:44 on Law Enforcement Officers so that'll be about 50,000 body cameras and then
75:50 the rest of it is of evidently storage
75:54 uh training and Outreach programs meant to renew the level of trust between cops
75:59 and the communities that they serve I think this is cool regardless of what
76:03 side you stand on because I think it could help potentially protect officers
76:07 and I think it could help potentially protect the people I mean it's the same
76:10 reason that people use dash cams the dash cam is not always necessarily to
76:15 cover your own but if it's in the hands of a law enforcement officer it could
76:19 potentially be used to cover the butt of of someone someone else from the law
76:24 enforcement officer so I mean I have having more raw data of what happened at
76:29 the scene how is that a bad thing cuz like even if something happens in the
76:32 background maybe you see someone run off to the corner that the police officer didn't see cuz he was talking to someone
76:36 if you could see that off off of off officer cam then cool sweet who knows I
76:42 don't think it's a bad idea um I think
76:45 that's pretty much it for anything that uh I thought was particularly
76:51 interesting in the do maybe we should shuken the this stream and have an after
76:57 party shukin really shukin sh how do you
77:00 say it again uh well without doing like the voice it's kind of hard toin
77:06 yeah it's it's more like shoro yukin and it's probably our it's probably yeah
77:11 we're going to be I don't really play fighting games whoever's going to correct us just screwed off sure good
77:17 work uh okay actually we have build logs
77:20 of the week so I'm just going to go s thank you for not forgetting that do we
77:23 have that dude's thing which one the C thing the what manave
77:28 thing I don't know what you're talking about all right so we've got Vault boy

77:37 uh it's loading yeah which means what uh
77:41 wait for it to load wait for it to completely glitch out my screen well you
77:46 full screened it and there's nothing loaded so it's white full screen your face there see all right allow full

78:22 literally lots of water cooling very nice working progress shots loving those
78:26 bit Phoenix Prodigy mods love that paint job too that's

78:43 scheme on the cabling looking real good
78:46 and there is the finished build so there's carbon fiber wrap on the back of
78:51 the vrm modules as well as on the motherboard tray and it looks like
78:56 possibly even on the inside here we got those those are so those are so
78:59 throwback I love this those those
79:03 biohazard fan girls like I remember
79:06 shopping on like ads mods.com for that
79:10 kind of crap like way back in the day those used to be so common at lands and
79:13 stuff love it so classic that beautiful yellow coolant that you can see through
79:17 the uh the Plexi window on the water block what a fantastic build and the
79:22 figurine for for good measure yeah yeah that's actually actually awesome and I
79:27 love Fallout so that's really cool never got into Fallout myself have you well
79:33 were you ever into like morind Skyrim or any of that kind of stuff I played a lot
79:36 of Oblivion but not morind Skyrim

80:03 what did I do I was faster today in the outro for fastest possible it was
80:07 actually pretty awesome starting out oh wow that that brand repping for Aus R OG
80:13 JJ is
80:17 wow just wow look at this huge ASUS logo
80:25 love this shroud down here in the bottom
80:28 uh and then you've got the OC like the one person in the world to be using
80:32 ASUS's OC front panel thing yeah is that
80:35 is that like a textured bump for the logo on there did he like 3D print that
80:39 or something it does look like it's textured it looks like it's raised
80:44 absolutely love it got that hard pipe tubing in there look at this desk oh my
80:51 goodness that is fantastic

82:03 fantastic in this build everything goes
82:06 together incredibly well sweet I would have like to see him
82:11 at least have the my my my OCD on the text on the AI cooler not being right
82:16 you know it kills me the thing about that is it's usually the manufacturer's
82:20 fault for not having the the right Notch The Notches well not having the length
82:26 the tubing to be able to yeah so you
82:29 have to choose clean tubing run or correctly
82:32 oriented and both will drive people crazy and both of them will drive people
82:36 crazy all right so guys thank you so much for tuning in to the WAN Show we

84:34 to show off your man caves then we're totally into that as long as you don't take man cave to me some kind of
