0:00 my first Fuji camera was their compact
0:03 x100t which quickly became my favorite walkaround point and shoot ever thanks
0:08 to its large sensor small body size and excellent fixed lens so I rushed out and
0:13 bought the xt2 because YOLO but at $700
0:17 more ket's newer sensor interchangeable
0:20 lenses and ease of use give Fuji a shot at the prer DSLR pocket of my gear bag
0:26 as a replacement for my old and tired Canon
0:30 60D let's find
0:41 out let's start with the quick physical tour right off the bat you'll notice the
0:45 x2's Practical size advantage over an
0:48 average DSLR with a similar lens on the
0:51 top of the camera we have the hot shoe shutter dial ISO dial shutter button and
0:56 the exposure compensation dial to the right of the camera we find the dual SD
1:00 card slots a must have for many working photographers then on the left of the
1:05 camera we have the mic in USB 3 micro
1:08 HDMI and a remote Port finally on the rear of the camera we have a new 3-in
1:12 LCD and a fairly standard menu navigation quick function button layout
1:17 with the standout being Fuji's addition of a joystick which allows you to select
1:21 Focus points very quickly Fuji's approach of having a physical dial for
1:26 every major exposure setting for the camera is one of the strongest aspects
1:30 of their design no need to use a modifier button or go through a menu and
1:35 they can be locked which combined with the manual auring on most XF lenses
1:39 gives you a very satisfying tactile experience when shooting there is a
1:43 level of precision that I can't quite put into words with this camera that
1:47 I've never felt with any other DSLR I have ever used it's little things like
1:52 having such a large exposure compensation dial making proper exposure
1:56 a breeze which gives the shooter more time to spend on the composition and
2:00 timing of the shot looking over the Stills the thing that really surprised
2:04 me is Fuji's excellent colors even with the JPEG files you can get from the
2:08 camera with a little bit of editing these photos can really shine on top of
2:12 that like many cameras these days you can send your photos over Wii direct to
2:16 your phone very handy the excellent image quality of the xt2 comes courtesy
2:21 of Fuji's new 24 megapix XTR 3 sensor
2:25 that made its debut in the X Pro 2 that came out a few months ago detailing each
2:30 image is sharp and ISO performance is pretty good for an apsc camera even up
2:35 to 6,400 ISO the camera's autofocus is
2:38 among the fastest I've ever used in a Stills camera and while I am not a
2:41 sports or wildlife photographer I was impressed by its speed and accuracy in
2:45 everyday Street situations Fuji has added a specific focusing mode that will
2:50 allow you to tailor the autofocus for your given situation a nice feature that
2:55 has been seen on cameras like Canon's 5D markv which I reviewed here usability
3:01 however is not perfect I found Fuji's 3-in screen to be a bit disappointing
3:05 while I appreciate the Innovation and Engineering involved adding another axis
3:09 of rotation I didn't find it comfortable to use even with an add-on grip and
3:13 compared to Canon and Panasonic flip out LCDs all I can really say to Fuji is
3:18 sometimes it's best not to reinvent the wheel to be clear it is not a bad
3:22 display I just found myself using the xt2 is built-in evf much more it does
3:27 bring a huge level of certainty when shooting being able to see what your
3:30 shots exposure will look like I don't know how I could actually go back to an
3:34 optical viewfinder at this point which brings me to video the xt2 is Fuji's
3:39 first attempt at making a competitive hybrid video camera and while it shows
3:43 promise it definitely has some first gen Kinks so in camera you can shoot up to
3:48 4K at 30 FPS or at 1080p up to 60 FPS
3:52 and while the video mode does not manage to feel like an afterthought I do have a
3:55 few gripes with it the first being that shooting directly to the SD card the xt2
4:00 can only shoot in one of its film simulation profiles which by themselves
4:05 look fine but limit your overall dynamic range and your flexibility in post Fuji
4:10 has taken the time to make their own F log profile but you can only use it with
4:14 an external recorder the fog footage comes out noticeably softer than the in
4:18 camera footage but you can add sharpening in post to balance that out
4:22 and you are left with an image that has better overall highlight retention
4:26 compared to the internal files shot to the SD card as adding to the internal
4:30 video cons by default the xt2 has a record limit of 10 minutes at 4K unless
4:35 you decide to add on their battery grip that does more than just add battery
4:39 life the grip increases the overall performance of the camera from 8 FPS
4:43 continuous still shooting to 11 FPS and
4:46 brings the per clip record time at 4K to
4:49 29 minutes and 59 seconds it also adds a
4:53 much needed headphone jack for video I can appreciate Fuji making a battery
4:57 grip more useful than just add power to a camera but for video Shooters this
5:02 seems like an essential add-on that comes at a $330 price premium that adds
5:07 weight and height to the camera making it harder to rig with other accessories
5:12 typically needed for a day of video shooting overall though my biggest gripe
5:16 with shooting video on the xt2 is the lens options Fuji was kind enough to
5:21 lend me their 16 to 55 mm and their 50 to 140 mm which on paper both seem
5:26 awesome for video however I found them really hard to use with muscle memory
5:30 the focus rings on both lenses using an electronic acceleration curve with a
5:35 significant delay instead of the one:1 operation of manual lenses when pulling
5:39 focus and autofocus isn't useful Beyond very basic video work which means I was
5:44 leaning on my manual lenses during my testing a lot you cannot punch in check
5:48 your focus while rolling on the camera which is a total drag when you're
5:52 relying on such a small display all is not lost though if you're a video
5:56 shooter you can get a cheap manual adapter that let you use various manual
6:01 glass on the xt2 but for those of you who have electronic Stills glass like
6:05 myself you're out of luck since there is no electronic adapter currently
6:09 available which leads me into my conclusion is the xt2 a perfect camera
6:14 no but it is one of the most enjoyable cameras I have ever used for Stills it
6:19 will be my go-to shooter for portraits moving forward and it also makes a
6:23 strong statement that Fuji is coming after the video Enthusiast Market they
6:27 have some more work to do it would be nice to to get more customizable
6:30 profiles or even F log in camera and Panasonic shouldn't be too worried about
6:35 losing their entrylevel video Pros yet but it's got a good image and with some
6:39 more tuning it can only get
6:43 better freshbooks is a cloud accounting software that has been redesigned from
