0:07 welcome to my unboxing and first look at the PBO Alpine so this is the successor
0:12 to the immensely popular Patriot box office so you can see here up in the
0:17 corner it is powered by Android 2.2
0:20 although it should be you got to bear in mind that you can't necessarily install
0:24 you know Angry Birds on it or anything like that but it is still compatible
0:28 with apps whether developed by Patriot or whether developed by end users who
0:32 want to enable more functionality on the device so you can use apps but not
0:36 necessarily the entire you know Marketplace like you can use on your phone because most of the apps require
0:40 touchcreen which is obviously not present so this is a full HD Media
0:44 Player yes it is compatible with 1080p it better be at this point does YouTube
0:48 HDMI it has DTS as well as Dolby Digital let's go ahead and flip it around so
0:54 full HD all-in-one media player built over the Android 2.2 o free
0:59 your digital media library from the constraints of a PC and Brides digital media to your home and entertainment
1:03 system brings your entire media library to the comfort of your living room now one of the things that was so great
1:07 about Patriot box office was the huge compatibility with file formats and
1:11 we've seen a continuation of that with the PBO Alpine and that's one of the
1:14 things that Patriot will continue to work on in order to make it as useful as
1:18 possible compatible with a variety of different video formats different
1:22 containers images audio and you can see there's a little bit of information
1:26 about the hardware here so it has an ARM CPU up to 500 MHz
1:30 um two USB 2.0 ports works with a
1:34 keyboard and mouse which is kind of neat as well as HDMI 1.3b output so you can't
1:39 do Native 3D it's just something to remember guys um optional Wi-Fi with a
1:45 USB adapter that is sold separately so let's go ahead and open it up and see
1:48 what we can see one of the things you'll notice about it compared to the original
1:51 box office is that it is very very small
1:54 which is fantastic if you want to use it for something like digital signage for
1:58 example uh so you can just mount it somewhere discreet and out of the way
2:03 without worrying about anyone walking off with it it's also good if you just
2:07 want an overall clean looking media PC
2:10 area so you don't have to or media PC TV area so you don't have to have like some
2:14 huge clunky box cluttering things up now
2:17 the drawback of that is that it isn't unfortunately compatible with um adding
2:22 an internal hard drive but for the smaller size I guess
2:27 we'll have to live with that so inside the box we have an AC
2:31 adapter an HDMI cable a user manual on
2:36 disk as well as a remote so the remote
2:40 has all of your basic functionality navigation enter play stop forward back
2:45 other more different forward back menu info subtitles and audio power volume
2:50 and that pretty much does it now in terms of interface Patriots actually
2:55 taking a fairly unique approach with this where they have kind of a stock um
3:01 more basic firmware that is going to be designed for if your grandma wants to
3:06 watch like Korean soaps and you don't
3:09 want to like be dealing with it every other day going over there and helping
3:12 her figure it out you just give her the stock firmware here you go Grandma enjoy
3:17 you know you set up the network share once for her because she probably is
3:20 going to have trouble with that and it can actually ah yes this diagram is
3:24 useful it can pull media from a variety of different sources whether it's wired
3:29 or or over Wireless whether it's you know mobile or a UPnP or DNA compatible
3:34 device or even a PC sorry where was I going with that
3:38 right so they have the easy firmware for Grandma and then if you want Patriots
3:42 also developing in parallel a more Enthusiast friendly stream where they're
3:46 going to be reaching out to the community and finding out what they want
3:49 out of this because again that was one of the things that was great about the box office was that they Continue to
3:54 update the functionality over time so if you're an Enthusiast that's the one
3:57 you're going to want to go for now on the outside see not a whole lot because
4:01 this is a very very small device so you got a few little logos there you got
4:04 your SD card as well as your USB remember you can play media directly off
4:08 of something plugged into the PBO Alpine you don't necessarily have to play over
4:12 the network also got indicator here on
4:16 the back we've got our av out so you'll
4:19 need an adapter for that guy USB HDMI
4:22 out most like 99.9% of people are probably going to be using this Ethernet
4:27 as well as power in so that pretty much covers it that's our basic over that's
4:31 our basic overview it's pretty simple to use in it stock configuration here's
4:35 their entire quick install guide connect HDMI plug-in power connect to you know
4:41 something and don't forget to enjoy don't forget to enjoy this video and if
4:45 you enjoyed it don't forget to subscribe thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look at the PB Alpine and oh I
4:51 already said thank you for watching and don't forget to subscribe so I'll say it one more time actually I won't
