0:00 I unboxed this product quite a while ago this is the adaptech uh SSD cache so
0:05 it's their Max IQ product basically it
0:08 goes with uh any supported adaptech raid card so in this case I have a
0:13 5445 from adaptech how many times have I
0:16 said adaptech already in this video I've set up the SSD as one of the four drives
0:22 that's connected to this controller so you can see I've got three other drives
0:26 those are all Hitachi 1 TB 7200 RPM
0:29 drives they are configured in raid 5 and I just wanted to do a quick video
0:33 showing how to set up the max IQ cache
0:36 once you've got it connected to the controller so the first thing you might need to do is update the firmware on
0:41 your card which I did have to do you installed the latest adaptech storage
0:44 manager software and then all you have to do is go into direct attack storage
0:49 KPC in this case uh controller one and
0:52 then you can see here that on connector zero we have an SSD and three SATA hard
0:57 driv so it already knows that there's an SSD connected we have one logical device
1:02 so that is the Hitachi raid 5 you can
1:06 tell from the little five indicated here and we can see some more information
1:10 about this here in this screen so we've got status power segments device yeah
1:17 everything that we need to know and then up here this little button right here
1:21 says cache and it has a little picture of an SSD so we click on that it brings
1:26 up a menu where all we have to do is go
1:29 to device zero click
1:34 SSD and then click apply oh hold on
1:38 vetch rate well we'll leave that at default for now so we click apply and
1:43 now it has configured this 32 gig
1:46 adaptech SSD in this case it's an x25 E
1:49 from Intel as a cache for my RAID 5
1:53 configuration now some adap tech cards actually support using thirdparty ssds
1:58 uh such as some of ocz's Enterprise level drives uh but this particular card
2:03 only supports the max IQ kit so that was
2:07 it now we're going to later on today hopefully maybe tomorrow do some
2:10 benchmarks comparing before and after adding an SSD cache and don't forget to
2:15 check out the video that I've done on the topic of using SSD caches because
2:20 it's very very interesting I actually compared quite a few different solutions
2:24 in the market but this was not one of them so I'm really looking forward to
2:27 seeing the performance numbers that we can generate by adding even it's a a
2:31 small 32 gig cache to this particular
