0:00 a lot has changed in the last year Beyonce stunned the world with the
0:04 release of her Visual Album lemonade Donald Trump stunned the World by
0:08 packing his bags and moving into the house on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and
0:13 perhaps most importantly Microsoft slashed the price of the Surface Pro 4
0:18 earning it after a year and a half to reach full maturity a spot in our review
0:24 lineup so while the Surface Pro 4 looks
0:28 very similar to the three which is good it's possible nay probable that the
0:34 changes lurking under the hood are enough to make it very different from
0:38 its predecessor which received a pretty tepid review from yours
0:43 truly but are they enough to elicit a
0:47 recommendation at the new lower price
0:50 let's have a look
1:02 Zotac GTX 1080 mini is extremely Compact
1:06 and Powerful measuring just 8.3 in in
1:10 length check it out at the link in the video
1:13 description the Surface Pro 4 feels really good in the hand it is reasonably
1:19 light and as we've come to expect the overall build quality is fantastic the
1:24 magnetic mount for the stylus is on the left now so you can have it clipped on
1:29 while you charge the device and more importantly it is much stronger than the
1:34 Surface Pro 3 under the hood there are more upgrades over the older model and
1:41 while Skylake CPUs have been on the market for 18 months now they still hold
1:46 up surprisingly well given that Intel
1:49 hasn't done much performance-wise in that time so you should be able to find
1:54 something that's right for you depending on how much you want to spend I think
1:59 The Sweet Spot sit somewhere in the I5 with 8 gigs of RAM range an i7 costs a
2:05 lot more for a pretty small performance boost but you might find the core M3
2:10 equipped Model A little sluggish in even day-to-day tasks like web browsing and
2:15 PowerPoint creation and it doesn't include a surface pen one thing to watch
2:20 out for make sure you buy the amount of RAM you need since it cannot be upgraded
2:25 after which brings us back to the exterior the front camera is 1080 p and
2:30 is equipped with an IR emitter for Windows hello which is still amazing and
2:35 there's also a 1080p rear-facing camera which is probably worse than whatever's
2:40 on your phone at this point and one of my life rules is to never use a rear
2:44 tablet camera anyway so we didn't spend much time on that on the right it has a
2:49 mini DisplayPort Port this is a huge Plus for something that is at least on
2:53 the surface a tablet so that can be
2:56 easily adapted to HDMI DVI or even DGA
3:00 for boardroom presentations but it's 2017 and while it kind of kills me to
3:05 say this a single usb3 type a port does
3:10 feel a little dated and I hope that the refresh features Thunderbolt 3 or at
3:16 least USB type-c with the option to use it as a power input not that I'm asking
3:22 for the magnetic power connector to go away another upgrade I'd love to see on
3:27 the rumored upcoming Surface Pro would be a full-size SD card reader instead of
3:32 a micro I mean there's got to be enough space down there and those new 300 megab
3:36 per second cards from Sony would make a great extra storage Drive the screen on
3:42 the Surface Pro 4 maintains the 2x3 aspect ratio of previous versions which
3:48 sacrifices some real estate for widescreen aspect media consumption but
3:54 with the average sounding speakers that clearly wasn't the primary focus for
3:58 Microsoft and this this aspect ratio is great for productivity and reading
4:03 articles and its full coverage of the srgb color space and excellent viewing
4:08 angles as well as outof the boox calibration means that it has stood up
4:13 very well to the test of time just like the CPU Microsoft went for a suede feel
4:18 on the keyboard cover that in spite of its binder likee Edge Construction
4:23 managed to really impress me the touchpad is understandably a little
4:27 small but feels good with a satis ifying audible click and the keyboard wow if
4:34 I'd known it was this good I'd have reviewed this when it was released the keystrokes felt good there's a fairly
4:39 long travel and there's a satisfying click that I didn't expect from my
4:43 experience with previous surface products I was able to quickly get up to
4:47 speed and this entire review was typed on the Surface Pro 4 the backlight is
4:52 also a nice touch on that subject as one
4:55 of those weirdos who genuinely likes touchscreen devices it shouldn't surpr
4:59 Uris you that even in kickstand laptop
5:02 mode that was one of the highlights for me of using the Surface Pro 4 in word
5:07 you can easily highlight misspelled words and navigating in the browser is
5:11 cake I mean other than that I was using Edge to kind of have the full Microsoft
5:16 experience I know many people still think that laptops don't need touch
5:21 screens but I suspect many of them have just never used one regularly the
5:26 included Stylus is also one of the areas that Microsoft really stepped up on the
5:30 Surface Pro 4 compared to the three writing notes in one note was easy and
5:34 felt much closer to actually putting a pen to paper and I could see this being
5:38 extremely useful as a university student and it even inspired me to learn a bit
5:43 about thermodynamics from one of our new writers a bit not much this is
5:48 definitely a huge improvement over the previous versions with the only downside
5:52 being that it occasionally picked up a palm uh while using the stylus opening
5:58 up the notifications panel another area that the Surface Pro 4
6:02 impressed me with was The Thermals of this little guy despite its super thin
6:06 size it was able to keep the i7 in its guts nice and cool during our ID to 64
6:10 stress test stabilizing it at around 75°
6:14 while still turbo boosting to 3 GHz and as a bonus it actually stayed reasonably
6:19 quiet too so who is this thing for then
6:23 the tablet with a keyboard concept still
6:27 won't be perfect for everyone and if you never plan to use the pen or
6:32 fold back the keyboard a normal laptop
6:35 like the LG gam or HP Spectre X 360
6:39 might make more sense but I will say
6:42 this I genuinely regret not bothering to
6:46 review this thing when it first came out because the fourth version of the
6:50 surface is where the concept finally lives up to Microsoft's vision and if
6:54 you can compromise on a somewhat dated IO and you want something now today
7:00 that's great for productivity tasks such as taking notes using word and surfing
7:05 the internet at the new lower prices it's pretty killer I'm just excited to
7:10 see how they follow it up maybe with a more timely piece of content this
7:15 time have you ever heard of tunnel bear
7:18 well if you're a regular viewer you probably have but maybe today is the day
7:22 you do more than just hear about it maybe you actually try it it's super
7:26 easy they've got apps for PC Mac iOS
7:29 Android and even a Chrome extension and it's like one button you're just like
7:34 bam and your connection gets encrypted
7:38 and you appear to the websites and services that you use as though you are
7:42 browsing from a different country so all of a sudden you're uh you know John do
7:48 from timbuk Tuan and uh that's the way
7:52 you want it to be and tunnel bear has a leading privacy policy and they do not
