0:00 people what ha us oh there's a new recipe it's a new
0:06 configuration it's going to get spicy of this generation it will get spicy maybe
0:09 savage jerky that's a spoiler alert
0:13 so yeah welcome to the lan show this week hosted by riley and james yeah
0:17 never before seen unfortunately jesus take the wheel i'm in
0:21 i'm in charge of running the intro and everything first time ever in big
0:25 trouble it's gonna be a good show we got lots of cool news like discord launching
0:29 its own game store trying to be all steamy and new leaks about the google
0:33 pixel 3. are you as excited as last year
0:37 and not only that but also be careful about what laptop chargers you use
0:41 because it could destroy your laptop and also another useless augmented reality
0:46 headset don't call it that roll the intro bam
0:51 yeah i love this intro i hope it never goes
0:55 away is it good
1:00 yeah wow little people they represent us
1:04 today a little full of himself i'm short with brown hair and you're taller darker
1:10 brown savage jerky
1:13 yep yeah fresh book fresh books
1:18 my favorite i am what fortnite heck what the heck
1:25 okay all right we'll get there i guess
1:28 download fortnite i mean don't i mean do it
1:33 yes do it get out and get out now okay i'm only
1:37 here because elias and luke are not available it's not because this is a
1:40 permanent thing for everyone who's like ah i get riley out of there i just
1:43 wanted to make that clear okay so so
1:47 wancho equals james if not Linus or luke hmm
1:52 oh you're putting show equals equation
1:56 james and riley when when
1:59 minus when not you know luke would not equal Linus and luke
2:05 that's it yeah or there's an xor we can use all right sure i don't know equation
2:09 you talk it's programming i'm an artsy guy
2:14 i don't know about numbers i'm a psychologist damn it i i took psychology
2:19 i have a psychology i have a psychology degrees
2:22 all right well let's start talking about this game stuff then psych man mr
2:26 scientist discord they got a big beta coming out part of
2:31 that beta is a game store yeah this is
2:35 uh this is a huge deal this is actually the um
2:39 the thumbnail story on net linked or TechLinked
2:43 today represent um steam came out and was like hey we're
2:48 gonna copy discord's chat chat services they got like the chat rooms and
2:52 everything in steam now so discord was like oh yeah oh yeah you
2:57 want to have just one product let's just be
3:00 let's just make there just be one product yeah when copycat product no
3:03 it's a little different because obviously i think it's a lot
3:07 easier for steam to copy chat features than it is for a chat platform to copy
3:13 a library because steam is like a it's a giant network that's a library of games
3:17 that's way harder to implement yeah i mean so okay to be fair let's like go
3:21 through what is actually happening so they're rolling out this beta to 50 000
3:24 canadian players uh they'll see let me stop you right
3:28 there okay i had to google if these guys are if it is a canadian
3:33 company is discord canadian i didn't look it up either i tried i didn't find
3:37 anything i think it would jump out if they were i'm just assuming they're
3:40 american so why are they releasing it to canadian players i don't is discord canadian does
3:45 anyone in the chat i tried that i went to the wikipedia the wikipedia didn't
3:48 even say where they were incorporated or anything anyone in the chat know if discord's canadian
3:53 i guess yeah this guy says this guy says
3:57 disco is american oh they're amer
4:01 so no based in california people are saying yeah but that does yeah san francisco
4:05 okay so they just like seem really they're just like oh we love canada
4:09 something technical they got all the look it's a long time coming all right
4:13 we never get anything first and this is we deserve this i think yes
4:18 we're so nice all the time for all the times that you watch a keynote and
4:21 they're like and we didn't stop there this is rolling out
4:26 today today two three states yeah oh the worst is when
4:30 it goes to the uk and australia before canada ah we're right here
4:36 it's the french that holds us back what what was that dennis is laughing at us
4:40 go away dennis yeah jeez so i like us too
4:45 dennis i'm so famous so they're doing two things to be fair
4:49 so it's like it's it's a discord store where they're going to
4:53 uh have curated games uh so not like a curated list of games
4:57 yeah yeah it's not gonna be like all the big ea games all the big ubisoft game
5:01 it's like kind of more indie stuff like dead cells is on there i think frost
5:04 punk some of those like popular games but not huge so they're gonna have
5:09 different stores it's supposed to be like really personalized like when you click on it there's a little description
5:13 of the game that's written by a a um employee of discord that kind of
5:17 gives their own little i like this game right it's like
5:20 artisanal yes artisanal games oh yeah that's it
5:24 this was hand crafted by tiny children in venezuela when i was
5:28 just a boy i spent many hours okay there's that
5:33 there's that and then they also are adding um
5:37 like a subscription game type thing like a netflix for games type service
5:42 uh to nitro nitro which is there already
5:45 existing subscription service yeah so nitro is just basically a way for people
5:50 to just support discord and like donate to them it's kind of like patreon you're
5:53 mostly there to give them money but in exchange you get some perks like being
5:57 able to have a video or gif as your avatar and stuff like that and this new
6:02 netflix of games is is just another perk really right
6:06 it's a pretty ba perk though yeah i think it's not bad it's emba
6:11 uh it's in the
6:15 do you even play games emba like mba imbalanced
6:20 imba i do play games
6:25 i play games no i do but i've never i've never encountered that before i mean i'm
6:29 not like super maybe it's an rts thing no it's a shooter am i am i full for not
6:34 knowing what imba means i know i know op i know nerfing
6:39 inbounds like the opposite of nerfing when something's in imba it gets nerfed
6:42 so p overpowered you well like okay it's more
6:46 or less more yeah you're correct about that it's like kylie is a what girl
6:50 what's ligma see what is imba people i think op is
6:55 more who's the gamer boy now gamer boys and girls sound off
7:00 all right um one thing that they're going to have is
7:04 first on discord games so these are going to be indie games that discord
7:07 helps develop they have some kind of stake in them and then they're going to
7:11 appear on the discord game store first
7:14 right for 90 days usually before getting wider release to all the other platforms
7:18 everything like that so that's kind of cool they're like kind of incubating some indie games that
7:23 maybe wouldn't have as much of a yeah yeah an initial reach
7:27 yeah it sounds like they wanna they want to get some of that sweet
7:30 steam-esque money that game store money but they also want to differentiate
7:34 their service by you know being high touch right right artisanal
7:40 artisanal i don't know how to say it artisanal artisanal it's artisanal that
7:46 sounds wrong and it feels so good okay so they're
7:49 also doing um because discord is kind of
7:52 one of the things that like and this is an indicator of this one of the things that discord seems to have been trying
7:57 to do is kind of be the
8:00 the hub for like pc gamers like hey it
8:03 shows what your friends are playing it has all these chat rooms that you might
8:07 be interested in you can like play music on there and people know what they're
8:10 what you're playing and stuff so they want to be like the one stop shop you
8:15 go to your you turn on your pc you're gonna do some gaming you open discord
8:19 and this thing is uh leaning towards that they're adding a
8:23 universal library so they want you to launch your games through steam now even
8:28 that is a crucial feature through discord how annoying is it to have to
8:32 open up epic games launcher origin
8:35 steam like a different launcher battle net just to launch whatever game you
8:39 want to play at that moment so this is discord's gonna have a feature where
8:43 you can scan your pc if you let it to detect all the games that you have
8:46 installed and then you can launch them from the discord thing what it's gonna do is it'll launch steam and then launch
8:51 the game yeah yeah yeah but at least this is one thing to click on at least
8:54 you can have your i mean i think uh the Windows tries to do that with like the
8:58 xbox app i think you can do that in the xbox app that's built in but no one
9:02 wants to use that because it's xbox
9:06 so good luck discord power to you be better than microsoft
9:10 cheers cheers cheers bud this one's for you yeah thanks johnners
9:15 for posting this by the way there's the forum post don't forget all the stuff
9:19 comes from the forum love you johnners yes oh also well okay i put as a sub
9:24 story for that fallout 76 won't be on steam but maybe that that doesn't really
9:28 fit in there okay so maybe fits in with the what's
9:31 going on with the pixel 3 leaks
9:36 it's been ongoing yeah they've been well it's kind of like the um
9:40 man it's kind of like the NVIDIA leaks right now like it's just so irritating
9:44 how many they are especially for you and i
9:47 who like are going through all of the tech news like we go through every tech
9:50 news story basically and trying to find the ones we need to
9:54 talk about and there's like google pixel leaks NVIDIA leaks every other story
9:59 it's like stop it and the most annoying thing is knowing how they vary week to
10:03 week because the nature of publishing online is like well i need to write 15
10:07 articles today so any tiny minute change
10:10 in the state of things is worth a new article so even if it doesn't give you
10:15 new information like let's say this week we learned there's a notch or there's a
10:19 leak that there's a notch and then next week
10:22 well now it's confirmed that there's a notch but we already knew there was going to be a notch but now it's like
10:26 more official man i hate the notch
10:29 my first notes that i wrote in here are why why is there a notch it literally
10:33 says why is the notch so big that's the only that's the talking why are not just
10:37 a thing i really because so we've only seen the
10:40 google pixel 3 xl so basically okay so what have we seen it's all glass there's
10:44 no headphone jack two front facing cameras because of the notch obviously
10:48 one front uh rear-facing back camera not two like every other phone right now oh
10:53 so they want bokeh on the front yeah but not on the back and they'll just use
10:57 that yeah they also got the fingerprint reader on the back it's got 2960x4040 display four
11:02 gigs of RAM and most likely a snapdragon 845 i would hope so that's not confirmed
11:07 yet um and then also in the leaks that we do
11:11 you want to bring them up do you bring me to click on that well do you
11:15 bring things up yeah we bring stuff up do you bring things up so people can look at it what do you want me to bring
11:19 up i've never been on the rs article or you posted these yeah the uh the rs one
11:23 man boom yeah just give them give them a little something here it is people
11:27 that's yeah screen we saw so for the people talking about case Labs we did
11:31 just see that like literally as we sat down
11:35 so we don't really have any details of that but we'll we will talk about it uh
11:40 in at some point okay click through this little slideshow
11:43 um well yeah someone's like no 3.5 millimeter
11:48 jack and a notch count me out tell you can say you can say that again big guy
11:53 good girl no i'm actually more angry i don't mind the notch
11:56 i'm more angry about headphone jack
11:59 and uh you see the thing is see this is like
12:03 everything that i don't want in a phone i want a headphone jack i don't want a
12:07 notch do you want the front firing dual
12:10 steering carrier speakers oh so yeah cause that's what a lot of people say
12:14 they're like i don't care about thin bezels give me speakers on the front
12:18 pointing at me and i don't care about that at all i
12:21 don't give a rat's patootie about speakers on the front
12:26 guys the best speakers you could ever put in
12:29 a phone are still gonna suck i'm using headphones i think it's obnoxious when
12:33 people are in public listening to things on their phone i hate it even when my wife's phone
12:37 makes noise because she's watching a snapchat or something i'm just like ah i just hate it yeah i'm never using those
12:42 speakers that's true i it used to i think that was like
12:46 i think one company put it on htc i think with one of their one phones like
12:51 the m6 or m7 or something had front-facing speakers and everyone was
12:56 like whoa front-facing because they're so cool so then since then people have been like
13:00 oh front-facing speakers are a good thing but i've i'm with you man
13:04 screw that i think it's like people like it on paper or something like that it makes them feel more techy or something
13:08 i don't know i want no bezels i want the full screen now the question see i don't
13:13 care about that either it just looks so much cooler i'm i'm
13:16 really like i don't care what my phone looks like i'm gonna slap a case on it
13:19 either way so see i run nude oh really totally new the first thing i
13:24 do every time i get a phone is i buy an otterbox or something
13:28 spygen i don't know i used to do that and then i would i
13:32 would drop my phone tens of times a day follow my pocket when i'm on motorcycle
13:36 route to concrete all the time i'm dropping it yeah that's what i do i i intentionally throw this
13:41 around yes because i can exactly if you
13:44 get a new phone it's gone good just did it sweet baby jesus if you get easy man
13:50 if you get a new phone and you're already gonna treat it nicer because
13:53 it's new yeah and you're like okay it's naked
13:56 i'm just gonna i'm gonna treat it good i'm gonna make sure every time i reach
14:00 down to my pocket that it's in the pocket before i let it go and you're just you just get these new habits i've
14:06 dropped this thing like twice and one of those times is because i was in the movie theater and just fell out of my
14:09 pocket since then i got a skin on it it's grippier see i'm just
14:13 okay this is like a discussion for another time but like
14:16 what's you know what's the point of not putting a case on and then
14:21 like i might as well put a case on and avoid a future
14:25 where you know my phone cracks and i have to get another phone because i was i didn't
14:30 want to spend 40 bucks it's not about the money it's the bulk
14:34 it's just you don't even have to spend 40 bucks you can go to the night market and get one for like six dollars or
14:38 something anyways look okay
14:41 stop stop it
14:45 don't touch me um so this one comes with
14:48 well apparently the leak there's pixel buds a
14:51 usb so that's like a appears to be a wired
14:55 version usbc version of the pixel like
14:58 error the wireless pixel yeah that'll be interesting i wonder if they're going to be capacitive
15:02 capacitative capacitive capacitive capacitor touch sensitive i want to be
15:06 you know like on the pixel buds you can hold down on it and heal the google system with very low latency that'd be
15:11 great if they had that included on these one thing that i thought was interesting
15:14 is the there's a there's a d33p on the forums put a
15:19 video like a new video of the pixel 3 xl like just up just like just now or a
15:24 couple or an hour ago or something and it shows that there's a volume rocker
15:27 and a power button on the right side no buttons on the left side so i don't know what
15:32 they're wasting that space maybe this is like an engine what do they have before
15:36 i don't know get that pixel over here well you i'm sure you can still squeeze
15:40 it right yeah they're probably gonna have that squeezable that's a pretty deep notch
15:45 but you know what so is the uh iphone 10s the iphone x is a wider notch
15:50 than a lot of the other chinese phones i really hope the pixel because i need a
15:53 new phone i'm still rocking a galaxy s6 here guys and gals don't tell people
15:58 that why it's been a while you do this to embarrass that's why i can throw it
16:02 around also it's because it's got a case and you're hoping it does
16:05 justify it
16:09 you know i wanted to get the pixel 2 but it's not you know they're releasing the
16:12 new one soon so i really hope that it doesn't even have
16:15 a notch you see i really want a pixel
16:18 3 small version the regular one but it's probably not gonna have a notch
16:22 and it's gonna have two front facing speakers instead of sweet bezels like the form
16:26 factor of the s9 like the edge display it's a very thin bezel on the top and
16:31 bottom that would be great if that was just a pixel though i don't want a
16:34 samsung don't even like i don't even like the edges anyways you know what
16:37 this is not this is not important is it
16:41 we're done we're not even talking about the the story anymore we're just
16:44 rambling we're just ranting okay well that was the story ranting's okay right
16:48 this is the ranch show on the last the ranch show on the last one i think luke
16:53 and lions just like ranted for like 10 minutes didn't they once someone came up to me at ltx and
16:57 was like you know what i like about you on the WAN Show is you keep people on
17:01 task on top you're doing the opposite right
17:04 well we might still be doing better than Linus oh that's the other thing it's got
17:08 four gigs of RAM and people are like four gigs isn't enough in 2018 for a
17:12 phone yeah five pluses have those it could be enough i have no idea because i have a
17:16 super old phone once again so guess what happened in the uk
17:20 they changed the law and it turns out people were buying internet
17:24 and did you skip one i rolled down yeah i'm not talking about that right now why
17:28 not i don't wanna okay fine so there was a law in the uk that if you
17:32 were a provider of internet you could advertise
17:36 speeds um that
17:39 weren't realistic best possible scenario they were like as long as those speeds
17:43 were actually deliverable to 10 of your user base you could advertise them so
17:48 you might be able to say like 17 megabits a second but only like most
17:51 people were getting 10. so the law changed it was uh involved in
17:55 like a suite of laws that came into play like in may but it's just i don't know
17:59 some research has been done recently to see how that affected all the different
18:02 providers there and like 12 of the biggest providers who are all just names
18:07 they've never seen before zen and i know sky plus net i know about
18:11 sky john lewis broadband
18:14 john lewis so british yeah exactly
18:18 subscribe now jordan lewis broadbend is that is that bad is that racist yes
18:23 no i can do british we're not this isn't our car ride home
18:28 we can't talk about this kind of stuff yeah um so the the way that the law changed
18:33 was instead of it uh
18:37 instead of the advertised speed only applying to at least 10 percent it has
18:41 to be at least 50 percent of users during peak times
18:45 so yeah a lot of them had to reduce their advertise speeds by like 40 or 50
18:49 percent so now if it's if you advertise 17 megabits per second you have to
18:52 advertise 10 or 11.
18:56 so like the the speeds that they're advertising just like drop ridiculously
19:01 yeah like the poster from last year is like
19:04 all new super lt four gen blurb
19:08 41 percent drop on average like that's
19:11 what here bring the bring the thing up
19:15 no don't they want to see this well if you guys want it's not like a
19:19 chart it's just like embedded in text i saw i saw a screenshot of like the new
19:24 is that what it is of the new um
19:27 like speeds and they're like ridiculous it's like sign up for our lowest tier and get like
19:32 10 megabits per second oh my goodness well hmm
19:36 well hold on let me personally answer this
19:40 um so this is why you don't bring up the things i can't say no just because it
19:44 takes less cognitive load there we go i'm okay i'm really sorry that i said
19:48 anything see that's a big mistake this is bad this isn't even the thing at all
19:52 i don't want to look at this here's some stock photos she's like huh is that
19:55 slower or faster anyway the good thing about this is i hate when there's things
19:59 in your life that are like oh yeah that's what it says but day to
20:03 day you don't get those speeds like oh you're so naive you haven't you haven't
20:08 learned the ropes that right even though it says 17 you're never gonna get that
20:12 no one gets that i hate that i hate that stuff see but like
20:15 this is what i'm confused about because here in canada i signed up for a 30 well now i have 80
20:21 but be when i say well okay so i have 88
20:24 megabits per second down okay it's nothing fancy but like when i do a speed
20:29 test if i don't get 76 at least
20:32 i'm like what the heck is going on so how do these people like advertise hey you can
20:37 get 50 and they're really getting like 12.
20:40 how is that okay yeah i guess that's what because there's a little asterisk beside it that says
20:44 like during the deadest times it's like your miles per gallon on a highway with
20:49 the wind at your back it's like if no one else is online
20:53 and you've got a pure platinum cable
20:57 yeah hard lined in you'll be good to go the straightest cable
21:03 does this still cable if it's not flexible no i i don't i don't know how that i
21:08 don't know how i don't know technology man
21:13 all right so they were oh but the deal is that they were paying for that speed
21:17 but now they do they pay less now because no no no
21:20 well the thing is it's all relative anyway because it's all just based on the
21:24 competition there's also different providers they're all probably providing
21:28 the same speeds at the lowest prices they can
21:32 yeah what are you laughing now sorry somebody said oh 80 megabytes it's not
21:35 88 megabits per second i have 80. and that's only after i got like an upgrade
21:39 offer i had 30 before and i said 80 that's nothing fancy and then people
21:42 were like ooh nothing fancy i'm sitting here with ten and i'm like that also
21:46 sucks i'm really sorry yeah there's someone in korea it's like
21:50 yeah e equals mc squared dude
21:54 we're flying over here yeah we don't even use numbers i did hear that korea
21:57 has like crazy fast internet i get 171. okay what do you want some
22:03 money what do you want good for you yeah send some that
22:06 internet over here about yeah what about us
22:09 i'm sitting with .05 i'm really sorry about that i want to know about this
22:13 magic leap let me tell you about magic leap
22:17 james what's your name james yeah that's it is it
22:22 a little background magic leap has been teasing the sickest technology for years
22:27 oh my gosh you've got these videos where you just put on these glasses and
22:31 suddenly you have these super high resolution mixed reality objects in
22:35 front of you like whales splashing
22:39 let us know in the chat if you saw any of those like concept videos uh from
22:43 like 2015 and stuff uh because
22:47 they were ridiculous like there was the hype for this company was through the
22:52 roof the investor commitment the millions of dollars they earned and then
22:56 in the recent months they they teased an actual physical implementation of like
23:01 what these things look like they have these like steampunk look to them yeah
23:04 i'm going to pull that up well they do still they do yeah they do still kind of
23:08 look like they're like a steam punky thing they got the really round lenses
23:12 and stuff hololens is like a i feel like it lies to you a little bit
23:16 less than the hololens in terms of physical design because hololens has the
23:19 big visor but really all you can see is like this little rectangular area i mean
23:24 that's technically hollow is it
23:28 no but uh um but these ones at least are
23:31 like okay look this is what you're gonna be able to see but even
23:36 yeah they're like that but even with this the the round area is
23:42 only a fraction or the it's only a fraction of that round area that you can
23:45 actually see the holograms get out of town yeah yeah get out it's still like a
23:49 little this isn't you can you can't see all of that it's like this little it's
23:53 like a little rectangular area within the the circular area again that's so
23:57 lame um so yeah i've been following this
24:02 since 2014 that's basically our set
24:07 yeah all right they're really copying us i'm getting out of here 2014 was the first i
24:11 looked up the old script that i did for the ncix news show to net linked okay i
24:16 did in 2014 that was when we reported on it fall 2014 and like google put 500
24:22 million dollars of funding into the company
24:26 and then over the years they got more and more i think the their most recent
24:29 estimate like a year ago or something was 4.5 billion dollars was the
24:33 estimated good law value of this company so the hype was like crazy and so
24:39 oh and that's the other thing they said they were using this like light field tech
24:42 that is not just like putting light onto a screen they said
24:47 they were going to shoot light directly into your retinas yeah
24:52 yeah you you you saw that i like that
24:56 you're into that the sun's deer i love that i love light field tech
25:00 it's like field tech but light yeah
25:04 but no that's not what it is they come out with it it's basically a hololens
25:08 it's basically the same thing as all lens they released the magic leap one
25:12 creator edition it's like the developer version
25:16 two thousand two hundred ninety five dollars uh which i think is not that far off
25:20 from what the hololens was when they released the developer google glass was
25:24 1500 right and i think hololens was around there i
25:29 did let me know in the chat if you know how much hololens was because i don't remember but i know it was expensive i'm
25:33 not googling it you guys tell me we don't i haven't tried it but from the
25:37 people who have tried it on the internet it's whack well it's not terrible that's the thing
25:42 that's the thing that's disappointing about it like if it was like terrible terrible it'd be like oh look at that
25:47 but it's like it's basically like the hololens like
25:50 people were saying like it's maybe maybe a little bit better than the hololens
25:54 but not much and then add on the fact
25:57 that they don't even have any of like the software
26:01 uh there for like because you know hololens is they're trying to integrate
26:04 it into Windows and stuff microsoft is like software is their thing yeah like
26:08 on day one i can take my excel spreadsheet grab it with my hands like
26:11 tom cruise and move it over here and the only official
26:15 uh experiences available for this right now is
26:20 i well the only ones that i found there might be more but the only ones that i
26:23 found were like a cigarose music experience type thing all right we'd
26:27 play cigarose music play that a couple times the icelandic band oh yeah
26:34 i'm not gonna pretend to be icelandic but i've heard icelandic people say it siguros
26:50 you're turning into an all the time i'm doing it no no it's dude
26:55 no i'm trying to do like a little bit like uh you know like uh bjork is bjork
26:58 icelandic yeah she kind of has the voice like this it's like a little elf that's
27:03 kind of dutch she gross all right anyways they have a cigarettes
27:07 experience where it's like a music equalizer thing not equalizer visualizer
27:11 and then they have like a project create which is like
27:15 it's like a it's like minecraft or like these other
27:18 you know those games that are like let you make games in the game
27:24 dreams was one of them i think
27:29 you can play god yeah yeah basically so they have that so you can like play
27:33 around with things you can bake castles there's little nights that are run around you can like make like circuits
27:37 and stuff but like other than that what's the point what's the point
27:41 you know well and you also have to wear a little computer
27:46 oh it's got the googles and the googles the googles and the noodles you've got
27:50 the googles of poodles and the schnoodles and then you're set yeah that's a hard reveal too
27:56 when they're like oh yeah it's not just these giant goggles you also have to
27:59 wear this super like it's basically a pg maker a discman
28:03 a disc a walk mask that's a joke i made on twitter when they first revealed it i
28:07 made a difference so ahead of me yeah why don't you eat this
28:11 delicious jerky how no you can actually open that and
28:15 eat it if you really yes jerky i've never had this there are
28:18 jerkies made with the best ingredients without nitrates or preservatives i'm
28:22 doing the original oh are you bad one original kind of guy we have the really
28:25 hot one here a banana that's nice
28:32 savage jerky's goal was to create the best snack full of flavor and spice that
28:37 wasn't bad for you and they did it with 13 flavors three of which we have here
28:44 hmm i think he likes it
28:48 that's delicious people seem to love the sriracha beach
28:51 bacon the maple buffalo bacon god they have all so many bacons and the
28:55 traditional flavors one thing i'll say about this is that it's
28:59 smoky and savory are those normally mutually exclusive
29:03 stop chewing like that you've been
29:07 did you know and i've actually seen this in people's houses they how much can you
29:11 hear me chew sorry i'm not wearing headphones no these guys i'm not wearing
29:14 hockey pads um they make not just jerky but also barbecue sauce hot sauce spice
29:21 rub their carolina reaper hot sauce uses one of the hottest peppers in the gosh
29:25 darn world watch out appropriately named the carolina reaper pepper watch out for
29:30 those guys the reapers that's a starcraft reference
29:35 nope okay use offer code LTT and save 10 off of
29:38 all their products and if you order tonight you get a free
29:42 silicon unbreakable shot glass while supplies last so so you take the jerky
29:48 you blend it up in your magic bullet it becomes a fine powder you put that into
29:52 your shot glass i don't want to do that i'm going to try the spicy one you eat
29:55 it as a snack no it's too late no you can do it okay but what's the next one

33:42 what fortnite this ain't your mom's video game
33:47 i mean it might be back if your mom plays that's fine
33:51 can i eat the jerky again now yes yes you may there's some a lot spicier than
33:55 i thought was now it wouldn't be a week of tech news without something
33:59 from elon musk just right this week he may or may not
34:03 have manipulated stock markets yeah
34:07 uh if he goes to jail soon and the stock price totally tanks you'll know why
34:13 so i i didn't understand this really so it's so he tweeted that he might take
34:18 tesla private might take tesla private funding
34:22 security is what he wrote right so wait do we need to tell people what private
34:25 and public companies mean i i don't really understand that okay when you
34:30 start a company i mean i understand that you go on the stock exchange basically
34:34 it's like anytime anyone starts a company it's a private company it's owned by the people who start the
34:38 company yeah and that's it when they get really big it's usually
34:42 because they want a fundraise they make the company public which means that
34:46 anyone can buy ownership of that company and that's
34:49 what a share is so instead of me and you owning james riley
34:54 corp suddenly thousands of people can own it and because they all i don't want
34:58 to buy pieces of it we get a lot of money no i don't want other people to
35:02 share in the special relationship you and i have that's right because if they
35:05 do then you're beholden to them so a public company that has shareholders
35:09 they have to serve the shareholders the shareholders are represented by the
35:13 board and every week the board board's trying to make you hit target so you can
35:16 make more money for the shareholders and all these annoying things that are really bothering elon musk so he would
35:22 like to take tesla back from being public i think it's
35:25 called a leveraged buyout when you you were public and then you're like no
35:29 we're just gonna buy all the shares back from everybody and we'll be private again just like spacex is yay so what he
35:35 claimed in this tweet was that hey guys i found someone with enough money to buy
35:39 all the shares back from you at a pr stock like a share price of 420
35:45 and at that moment for 20. am i right
35:49 the stock price at that time was only 340 bucks
35:53 so if that news was true then that means that the share i hold that's worth 340
35:58 dollars is soon going to be worth 420 nice so
36:02 a lot of people were like whoa i need to buy shares before that transaction
36:06 happens because i as long as i buy those shares while they're worth less than 420
36:09 bucks i'm gonna profit but then once he tweets it
36:13 the shares go up and then it's too late so
36:16 if he makes a tweet like that he has to
36:21 there's the uh the sec which is the what do they call it the securities financial
36:25 the the the federal communications what what fcc no the sec this is securities
36:31 exchange commission commission council
36:34 try them for it so you're allowed to say that you're
36:37 going to do that as long as it's true if he if he actually does have a backer
36:42 that was actually gonna follow through they've they've been in talks there's
36:45 someone who has the money to do this he's allowed to share that information
36:49 with shareholders he's even allowed to tweet about it as long as he tells the
36:52 shareholders beforehand right as long as that's all true because if
36:56 it's not true then obviously every other week elon could be like uh yeah
37:00 someone's gonna buy it for about uh six million dollars a share and then the
37:03 share goes and then the stock price and at that point he's just manipulating the
37:07 markets yeah so after you tweeted that now there's an investigation
37:12 into whether or not it's true and you can tell from the stock price
37:17 right now that there's not a lot of confidence
37:20 that it is true because when you first made the tweet we went with 340
37:24 up to about 380 at which point my accounting friends were like dude you
37:28 should sell right now if you have tesla because there's no way this is real and
37:32 it's just gonna crash and that's exactly what happened it went up to 380 and now
37:36 it's back down to 350 because people think he's just bs'ing and you didn't
37:40 sell well if i do have tesla stock oh you
37:44 can't tell people that you stole that you that you sold it hmm you can't tell
37:48 people i think i can tell people it's not gonna come i don't know you're giving me this look like you can't tell
37:52 people no you can tell people do you guys want to know i have some tesla stock not a lot it's just because i like
37:58 tesla fancy boy oh this is a stock
38:01 market guy over here okay here's the thing i hated reading all the tech news
38:05 about all the my favorite companies and they're doing cool things and the
38:09 stock price is going up and you're just not a part of it right so it makes everything's more fun
38:13 when you're kind of just a part of it and then you're just you just do stocks
38:17 because you feel like you're closer to mr musk
38:20 you're kind of you're a role model maybe role model how do you think grimes feels
38:25 about that i like grimes i've seen her live i support
38:28 partner what i see her life her name is she
38:31 changed her name to c like the letter like the light speed of
38:35 light constant oh yeah so always a capital
38:40 okay um
38:43 so do you think well i hope that uh i hope that he that he did let the
38:47 shareholders know because if he did isn't that is it how
38:50 big of a deal if it if is it going to be if they find out that he did
38:54 like screw up it's bad like if he just
38:57 did it just willy-nilly yeah it's pretty bad not only is the sharer prize the
39:01 stock price will tank to pro to sub 300 for sure
39:04 i think you can like it's fraud or something like that like
39:08 he might even go to jail elon musk in jail wow
39:11 he'd find a way he'd find a way out yeah the boring company just digs him out
39:17 okay that's what the boring company is for you're gonna dig me out he started
39:22 it he started the boring company because he knew he would pull something like the
39:25 tunnel's gonna go from my cell underwater to a floating autonomous
39:29 barge well i i'll launch on a falcon heavy to mars
39:33 they'll never catch me he'll go from the real life iron man to like the real life
39:39 super villain i don't know what's what's the super villain version of iron man
39:42 lex luthor yeah there you go he'll be losing his hair that picture
39:47 all right so do you think he's he's not a dummy he knows finance and
39:51 stuff we may be witnessing the birth of the first real life super villain that
39:55 would be so fitting because everyone thought he's kind of like a superhero so
39:59 he'd be like this fallen angel type oh my gosh
40:02 oh buy stock now before well he does
40:06 seem pretty unstable on twitter sometimes this is not what this podcast
40:10 is about he called that guy a pervy guy a pedo dude that guy in thailand that
40:15 that was the first time that like keep your comments to yourself pedo dude i
40:18 was like elon what are you doing yeah i felt like
40:22 like a padme he was breaking my heart
40:27 elon what stop you're breaking my heart
40:31 from my point of view the sec is evil
40:35 i killed them bezos
40:38 yeah amazon's involved now uh i really wish i think in the future we can use
40:43 blockchain technology to invest not only in companies but in people sorry
40:48 somebody just put in the chat you were the chosen one yeah nice one okay sorry
40:53 what if you can invest in people that'd be so dope like if everyone had their own crypto
40:58 like coins invest in people yeah like so okay so elon
41:02 elon gets with grimes right he starts dating grimes yeah people are like whoa
41:06 grimes value is about to go up like she's trending i buy grimes coin
41:11 and then like grimes is super popular because she's now by proxy's soup like
41:14 more famous than she was she gets like record deals and tv deals so she's worth
41:18 more money so their coin goes up and i own that gram coin
41:21 i don't want to live in that world you're saying you wouldn't buy james coin
41:26 no i'd buy james coin because i laser coin i believe in you thank you yeah all
41:30 right but i don't want to what would you call your coin
41:36 putting you on the spot here compute compute
41:39 riley bucks good one
41:45 i'm not good with the with the puns as i've just uh discovered after being here
41:49 for some time what's this rom thing ooh roms ooh
41:54 i know about those yeah pull it up i'm gonna put up the forum thing oh didn't
41:57 they do something like this and brought black mirror they did with the the do
42:00 you watch blackmail i've seen every episode i love the one where um it's
42:04 bryce dallas howard and she's that's the
42:07 uh where you rate your friends on social media oh episode one of season three
42:10 yeah that's big well is that season four are there four scenes i think that's the
42:15 first one that was on netflix season three three that's a pretty good episode
42:19 there's no investing in people in that but you do like kind of you have ratings
42:22 and you go up and down and stuff yeah thank you to technicolor for posting
42:26 this to the forum oh what the roms yeah i don't where is it i'm seeing roms
42:31 are rom's over is it a rom apocalypse
42:34 hmm she's
42:37 i was a pun i don't know what you're talking about yet uh so do you guys know
42:41 what roms are
42:45 uh do you uh so roms are basically like the game file for uh games when you run
42:52 in an emulator so if you're running like a gamecube or a wii emulator on your pc
42:57 the rom is what you need to load in there so you can play the game there are
43:00 all sorts of rom sites on the web
43:04 and they're in kind of like a
43:09 oh that was a bad analogy to make but they're under fire okay all right so
43:14 nintendo just recently filed lawsuits against two huge emulator sites love
43:18 retro and love roms we reported on this in TechLinked
43:21 um they sued them for 150
43:25 per game 150 000 per game per game oh and two million
43:31 dollars per trademark oh so like every
43:36 so you like two million dollars for zelda no smash bros counts as one covers
43:40 all of them yeah no it doesn't that's the thing so
43:44 like just a massive amount of money we're talking here to like independently
43:48 run websites by people who are just trying to like keep these games alive right
43:51 like you download them for free i they get ad probably revenue from like
43:56 hosting them and stuff but they're making money for sure yeah they're making money on this site but like
44:00 you know they're not making money on the games per se but anyways so you please
44:04 tell me that like it's one thing to smash these people into oblivion
44:09 and offer an alternative yeah but if you don't it's like when they're yelling at
44:12 people for torrenting game of thrones but then there's no nice way to watch
44:17 game of thrones hbo yeah there wasn't exactly for a while so you're about to
44:21 tell me that nintendo has an awesome store of classics or something like that
44:24 well that's the thing they haven't launched the virtual for so for a lot of
44:28 their consoles in the past they launch a virtual console and you can just go on
44:31 there like for the wii u or the gamecuber one
44:34 they didn't have it for the gamecube but for the wii u you go or the wii you go
44:38 on there and then you go to the virtual console and you can download all of
44:42 these old games and play old retro games on your current console but they haven't
44:46 launched that for the switch yet and there's a ton of things that aren't on the virtual console so
44:51 that's what these rom sites uh that's the that's the service they provide so
44:55 the big news here is that another site emu paradise
45:00 paradise for emulators not for emu's the bird okay that would be silly yeah they
45:05 just uh stopped they said they're gonna stop hosting roms so i guess maybe
45:09 they'll still have stuff about ambulation i don't know i don't know whether they're still like continuing to
45:13 go with just without realms or not but they're stopping hosting robs because i
45:18 mean they didn't say specifically that they're doing it because of these lawsuits but the implications shoot into
45:23 oblivion the implication is that they want to avoid a similar fate so
45:28 um and apparently they were one of the few places on the internet that were not
45:32 plagued by pop-ups and glitches and all this stuff because you can go and get roms on the
45:37 internet but you know we can't have nice things there's no guarantee that the the site
45:41 that you're gonna go to isn't just like a trap and it's just like loading malware and stuff nothing gold can stay
45:46 didn't i read that the virtual console on the switch is gonna
45:51 cost money you read that i think i read that i
45:54 haven't seen that i scrolled past that headline oh i think it's gonna cost money
45:58 well i mean you buy the games okay i don't i didn't have a wii or wii u my
46:04 parents had a wii i actually would rather it was a subscription than buying
46:08 the games i think hey put us in put in the chat do you know if do you have to
46:11 pay in previous consoles to access the virtual console i'm pretty sure you can
46:16 you have to buy the games on the virtual console okay in order to play them so
46:20 that's because with old games i'd rather just try them all i'd rather a
46:23 subscription option because like some of them might suck and
46:27 want to play for like 20 minutes like the old games on the virtual like just
46:31 old super nintendo games and stuff yeah see for me i'm not like
46:35 i didn't the first the first console i had was an n64 so i played very little
46:40 of uh the nes and snes
46:43 sns snazz yeah see now this is the thing
46:47 they don't have the virtual console but they have the nes mini and the nes classic edition
46:52 or whatever snes classic edition so are
46:56 they going to release like the n64
47:00 classic edition probably and so on and so on i want a tiny tiny gamecube
47:06 the miniest of discs would that be okay though you know because i don't want to
47:10 buy that
47:15 why okay if they released an n64 uh mini
47:18 and it was like a little and i wanted to play n64 games yeah i
47:23 would buy it but like most of the time
47:26 i feel like a lot of people are running things you know they want to have it up there for as like a backup
47:31 or because it's not available on other
47:35 services so like what about old like what about wii games that you can't play
47:38 on switch right now you know like
47:41 i don't know i think nintendo should have
47:45 before they do this kind of stuff they should have some sort of service
47:49 yeah yeah well
47:52 i think if they if they crush these sites before the product launch then
47:55 their product launch is more compelling so oh this is a good this is a good uh
48:00 what's his name zr gaming just said in the chat i forgot to mention this the
48:04 nes mini the classic editions that they launched uh actually
