0:00 you know when you think about it 3D gaming is a bit of a misnomer sure in
0:04 many modern titles your character is moving around three-dimensional space as
0:08 opposed to the Sid scrollers of yester year but at the end of the day we're
0:12 gaming on flat two-dimensional monitors unless you happen to have one of those
0:16 newfangled curved displays but you know what I mean showing a 3D image on a 2d
0:21 display has long been an issue think for example about looking at a flat map of
0:26 the world on Google Maps which uses a map projection that makes Land masses
0:31 near the North and South Pole look way bigger than they actually are because
0:35 translating a 3D sphere the Earth onto a 2d monitor or map is an imperfect
0:41 process somewhat similarly your PC's graphics card has to project portions of
0:47 3D objects onto your screen a certain
0:50 way so that they appear to have the correct perspective and depth just as
0:54 real life objects do computers do quite a good job of this in most modern games
0:59 if you're only only rocking a single monitor setup but if you're running
1:03 three monitors where the two displays on the side are tilted toward you you may
1:07 have notice that some of your games look distorted and skewed on the side
1:11 monitors to understand the reason for this it can help to visualize your GPU
1:16 as a projector behind a set of translucent screens if all three of them
1:21 are lined up straight on one plane the image will look correct but setting up
1:25 your monitors like this takes up a ton of space and limits your field of view
1:29 so most people tilt their two side monitors inward but this would make a
1:33 hypothetical projector display a stretched incorrect image on those same
1:38 in displays enter simultaneous
1:41 multi-projection or SM SMP a new GPU
1:45 technology featured on NVIDIA's new GeForce 10 series that alleviates this
1:49 problem by essentially showing a different camera angle on each screen
1:54 going back to our projector analogy this is like having a separate projector
1:57 behind each screen instead of just one for your entire setup ensuring that the
2:02 shapes and objects look realistic instead of like poorly constructed
2:07 Play-Doh models but Teran doesn't that mean that my GPU has to render the same
2:12 screen three different times won't that kill my frame rates and make my $600
2:16 graphics card next to useless actually
2:20 most of the really heavy rendering of things like geometry and lighting are
2:24 done only once after that the multiple projections are created by using simple
2:29 trans forms that clip or squeeze the stuff that has already been rendered
2:34 which is much less compute intensive so you won't see a big dip in frame rates
2:38 the current version of the Tex supports up to 16 different projections so you
2:43 can have goodlooking visuals even if you have some sort of monstrous monitor
2:47 Arrangement a similar concept is used to push two slightly different projections
2:53 to each lens of a VR headset so that the
2:56 3d effect looks correct technologies
2:59 that in Nidia is calling single pass stereo and lens matched shading that
3:04 compensate for the fact that there are two lenses and the fact that the lenses
3:08 are curved instead of planer and if you've noticed that I keep talking about
3:13 NVIDIA that's because right now s SMP is
3:16 only a thing on their new GTX 1080 and
3:20 1070 on supported games however as VR
3:23 headsets and Surround gaming become more popular I wouldn't be surprised to see
3:28 something similar on MD cards in the near future especially with their new
3:33 Polaris architecture right around the corner so like the North Star hopefully
3:38 SMP and related Technologies can point
3:41 you towards a more immersive gaming experience if you just can't get enough
3:45 screens in your battle station speaking of screens massdrop has
3:51 another one of their pretty killer deals going on today the LG 34 5734 in
3:58 ultrawide free sync monitor I hope I said that correctly is currently
4:02 available over there at an exclusive low price this monitor not only features
4:07 freesync technology to prevent screen tearing in your favorite games but also
4:11 has an IPS display for greater color accuracy four screen split so you can
4:16 output an image from multiple devices at once and black level stabilization to
4:21 help light up dark scenes of course this product is available only through Mass
4:25 drop at the significantly discounted price thanks to their group buy model
4:30 essentially the more people buy the more the price goes down to a set minimum
4:33 with its minimum price being just under 30% below the MSRP you can check out
4:38 this drop and many others at the link in the description
4:42 draw. tequi so head over there now if you're interested that link doesn't give
4:46 us a kickback or anything but it does let them know that we sent you got it
4:51 okay thanks for watching guys like it if you like it dislike it if you disliked
