0:00 the original OnePlus One was incredibly
0:03 disruptive we thought this is the phone
0:07 for the people we thought that's going to explode onto the scene and force the
0:13 industry Giants to lower their prices and abandon consumer unfriendly
0:18 practices like pre-loading bloated Android skins and carrier locking their
0:23 devices but 3 years later nothing has
0:27 actually really blown up and it appears
0:30 to be OnePlus who is slowly caving to the business realities of competing in
0:36 the smartphone market the one plus 5 is
0:39 still cheaper than competing flagships but the decision to buy one is getting
0:45 less and less obvious let's take a
0:48 closer look at
0:57 it cyber power PC lineup of gaming
1:01 desktops feature Intel 7th generation core i7 processors check them out at the
1:06 link in the video description let's get this out of the
1:09 way first I not a huge fan of the
1:12 slipperiness of the new curved shape and
1:15 fine blasted aluminum finish on the OnePlus 5 but that's nothing a dbrand
1:20 skin can't fix and their material choices including 2 and 1/2 D Gorilla
1:25 Glass 5 for the 5 1/2 in 1080P AMOLED
1:28 display and Sur iic for the lightning
1:31 quick fingerprint sensor are difficult to question internal highlights include
1:37 a 10 NM Snapdragon 835 processor 64 or
1:42 128 gigs of non-expandable dual Lane ufs
1:46 2.1 storage 6 or 8 gigs of shiny new LP
1:52 DDR 4X RAM Lightning Fast Wave 2 AC
1:56 Wi-Fi and dual SIM support with very
2:00 broad mobile network compatibility thanks to the process node shrink on the
2:04 CPU and GPU the lower power consumption
2:07 of this Cutting Edge memory and some software tweaks performance is better
2:12 than ever across the board and the five comfortably lasts me through the day
2:18 without delaying notifications from any of my key apps and software overall
2:24 continues to be a strong point in general for OnePlus oxygen OS is
2:29 lightweight responsive and almost as clean as bone
2:34 stock Android and where they add things
2:37 it Mak sense navigation buttons can be
2:40 repositioned and remapped at will and even moved on screen if you prefer my
2:46 mobile carrier's preference that mobile hotspot not be possible to add to the
2:51 Quick Settings was rightfully ignored
2:54 and swiping to the right reveals weather
2:58 a notepad recent contacts and recent
3:01 apps instead of some bloated digital
3:04 assistant but the big highlight for me this time around is really the upgrade
3:09 to gestures flip to mute is for idiots
3:13 unless you've got a screen protector though thankfully OnePlus seems to be
3:17 aware of this and included one but three finger screenshots with a single button
3:22 to press to Autos scroll the rest of the page I'm not sure how I lived without
3:27 that and the ability to map some hand functions and any application launch I
3:33 want to five different drawing gestures
3:36 I have never launched Angry Birds on the can so fast in my life the doubleclick
3:42 camera launch too is among the fastest I've ever seen and on that subject
3:47 rightfully OnePlus is really proud of
3:50 their first ever dual camera solution in
3:54 general dual cameras can be used to capture sharper images or more data like
3:59 if they had separate sensors for black and white and color but OnePlus is going
4:05 after a shallow depth of field effect for portraits and this one made more of
4:10 a difference to me a built-in 2x optical
4:13 zoom overall I would never know that
4:16 this was a first attempt at anything the
4:20 16 megapixel selfie camera is pretty
4:23 good but has a very similar field of view compared to the iPhone so I do wish
4:28 it was a little wider for group shop shots but I really loved using the
4:32 five's rear cameras and unlike some other devices I've reviewed in the past
4:37 I didn't feel for a moment like switching to it during my review period
4:41 was causing me to miss out on properly capturing Precious Moments with my
4:46 family the only reason that I personally even care about having a highquality
4:51 cell phone camera and all the manual
4:54 dials and switches including raw capture are there for the photography nerds in
4:59 the native app too video recording is a
5:03 bit more of a mixed bag for me the capture modes are limited compared to
5:07 other flagships so no 240 FPS slow-mo
5:12 there's no Optical image stabilization so 4K video isn't stabilized and 1080p
5:18 video has this weird FPS character
5:22 effect that some people seem to really like but I don't and there's no obvious
5:26 way to disable it and from a usability standpoint
5:30 I hate being forced to switch to video
5:34 mode when I open the app before pressing
5:37 the record button rather than just having both buttons ready for me on
5:42 screen okay so Linus it sounds pretty good but there's no modular upgrades
5:49 taller aspect ratio screen retina
5:52 scanner waterproof housing stereo speakers pressure sensitive display or
5:57 any other new stand out feature why is
6:01 this thing more expensive again well as
6:05 I alluded to before OnePlus has grown as a company solving some of their initial
6:11 problems like their Reliance on third party software and their limited product
6:16 availability though their customer service could probably still use some
6:19 work and they've incurred the costs that go along with this development so
6:24 instead of coming in at less than half the price of a competing flagship
6:29 they're now closer to 70% compared to the latest iPhone what
6:35 that means is that the OnePlus 5 might not be the clear and obvious Flagship
6:43 killer choice for Budget consumers but
6:47 we're also giving up less than ever before which makes it a great choice for
6:52 a broader range of Android smartphone
6:56 buyers how does dbrand do it every time
6:59 there's a hot new device D Brand's got a hot new skin like all dbrand skins it
