so I'll no longer be doing unboxings in the cameraman's office because I finally
0:05
have my own legitimate office cameraman if you could do a quick 360 here and pan
0:10
around check out the new
0:13
office yeah there that was awkward so
0:17
today we're going to be unboxing the Kingston SSD now V series solid state
0:21
drive this is a 128 gig drive and it is
0:24
part of their uh notebook upgrade kit series of drives so it's a vs series
0:28
Drive which means it's a little bit slow slower than a v+ but still a very fast
0:32
SSD let me just see if I can find the specs on the box here okay you know what
0:37
no so I'm going to cheat a little bit and I'm going to go Kingston SSD now on
0:42
the NC website okay so we got the V
0:45
series Gen 2 128 gig you can see it's
0:49
actually on special this week if you wanted to buy this without the laptop
0:52
upgrade kit it's only2 54.99 apparently I unboxed it once
0:57
already without the laptop upgrade kit but um I guess that doesn't really
1:01
matter there's no uh wow that was when I was using that table in my house that's
1:06
not a very good place to do an unboxing so I'll be doing them in my new
1:10
office that'll be way better okay so the 128 gig is up to 200 megabytes per
1:14
second read and 160 megabytes per second right and check this out see this drawer
1:19
I'm going to be keeping a knife in it yeah so now we've got even that is all
1:24
taken care of so let's get this opened up and have a look at exactly what
1:27
Kingston includes with their 28 gig notebook upgrade kit so first of all we
1:33
have the outer sleeve that comes off and
1:37
I guess there's something on here okay so it says it's fast reliable and Silent
1:41
that pretty much goes for all decent quality ssds these days and the Kingston
1:46
one is definitely decent quality uh if
1:49
not excellent quality so oh cool that has a Kingston logo on the plastic then
1:55
we have a driver disc oh no this is cloning software this is really useful
1:59
then so so basically what makes this a laptop upgrade kit is that it has
2:03
everything you need to take your existing laptop hard drive and transfer
2:06
it directly onto this Kingston SSD so you use the hard drive cloning kit along
2:11
with the included 2 and 1/2 in hard drive
2:14
enclosure so you throw your SSD in the drive enclosure or vice versa I guess
2:20
then you use a USB cable to plug it into your computer then you use the cloning
2:24
software to completely copy all of your old hard drive contents onto the new SSD
2:30
you've also got a MOX 2 SATA adapter for
2:35
power for whatever reason okay not
2:38
really sure why let's get the drive opened up and we'll have a look at the
2:41
SSD itself okay so it's got a nice sort of
2:46
dark uh blackish grayish finish on it you can see this is an evaluation SSD so
2:52
it is not for resale uh the warranty is void if you remove this particular screw
2:57
over here you've got mounting options uh for 2 and 1/2 in drives on both the
3:02
sides as well as on the bottom so you're going to be able to mount this in any
3:07
laptop okay it is a thin drive so it's not going to not fit in a laptop because
3:12
it's too thick I've seen that before uh with something like the seate
3:15
Velociraptor even though it's 2 and 1/2 in it's actually too thick so that's
3:19
something to bear in mind and I guess that pretty much covers it it's got a
3:23
Kingston label on the top which is all shiny and then we've got our SATA power
3:27
as well as SATA 2 Data connector at the back and cameraman wants me to have sort
3:32
of a closer look at the drive enclosure that's included so this is a very very
3:36
basic Drive enclosure because I guess it's pretty much intended to be used
3:40
once though actually here okay so we'll show
3:44
the installation procedure why not it's that easy you just slide off the top
3:47
Slide the SSD in it Clips in just like that so it's not going to come out and
3:51
then you close it that was incredibly easy you know this is probably the
3:55
easiest to install external drive enclosure I've ever seen and uh it comes
4:00
for free with the drive so you can't really complain yeah there you slide it on from the top just like that and then
4:05
you got your you know what here why don't we just see if this works there
4:09
I'm going to plug it into my USB cable on my computer here okay power light
4:14
turns on I'm going to just sort of close my reports and my uh
4:19
MSN and this while the cameraman doesn't look at my
4:23
screen doesn't look at my screen closing all my stuff there we go okay so my
4:28
devic is already to use and I can go into my computer and I can access it
4:34
just like oh no I can't okay well what I'll do actually this is an interesting
4:38
tip not everyone knows how to do this if you rightclick computer and then click
4:43
manage then in theory it'll bring up the prompt if your computer is a little bit
4:47
faster than mine where you can actually
4:50
manage your drives let's try that one more time there we go it is adding a
4:55
snap-in console whatever that means I've never seen this take that
5:00
long there we go finally dis management and that is where you are able to
5:04
initialize a new disc um format an existing one you can actually rearrange
5:09
the drive letters so if you want to change your your C drive to your Zed
5:13
drive if you feel like it or your D drive to your X drive you can do that in
5:17
here it is going incredibly slow and I can't figure out why it's doing that but
5:21
either way that's where you do it so thank you for checking out my unboxing of the Kingston SSD now V series
5:26
notebook upgrade kit and this is the 128
5:29
gab version
