0:00 back in new york with a new phone
0:03 can't complain wow we finally got our hands on the new
0:07 iphone 11 i mean pixel 4.
0:11 don't know why i said that yes this is the new pixel 4 xl google finally took
0:15 the wraps off after months and months of leaks we basically knew everything about
0:21 the phone or we thought we did anyways um turns out
0:26 a lot of it was true uh so the big things we have an extra camera on the
0:30 back now they added a telephoto camera we got a 90 hertz display and let me
0:36 tell you it's real smooth
0:39 i like my mustache so the google pixel 4 this is the 4xl i
0:45 don't have the pixel 4 normal one but it's about the same size
0:49 as this one and the bezels are about the same as well so it's launching at the
0:53 same price so 7.99 for the pixel 4. 8.99
0:57 for the pixel xl 5.7 inch screen on the
1:00 pixel 4. 6.3 inch on the pixel 4 xl
1:03 snapdragon 855 inside i've already talked about that guys we'll have more
1:08 details about it coming soon but for now that's
1:11 it's oh so orange last year they didn't really talk about
1:14 the specs up front but this year i was talking to a guy and he's like yep yeah
1:18 it's got a snapdragon 855 you know
1:21 six gigs of RAM they upped the RAM uh this year they was they stuck with four
1:25 for too long so they updated not quite to the amount of like eight gigs and 12
1:29 gigs that we saw with other flagship phones that we're seeing right now but
1:32 it's something thanks google now obviously one of the biggest changes
1:36 with this pixel 4 is that it now has what they're calling motion sense so
1:40 that's i think their their term for all of the kind of like air gesture sort
1:44 of stuff that's enabled by the project solely chip
1:48 inside that's uh contained by this big sensor bar at the top you might not like
1:52 the fact that there's no notch we're going back to forehead bezels but
1:57 you know i'm okay with that because there's a lot of technology stuffed in
2:01 there uh the motion sense is going to allow you to do stuff like face unlock
2:05 which is apparently always running so it should be super fast when you pick up
2:08 your phone you shouldn't have to like wait for it to unlock it should just be
2:12 like boom bam boom and that also enables stuff like the motion gestures we saw it
2:17 will also allow you to dismiss alarms and to dismiss calls so they took the
2:23 call protection thing a little further last year they had the screen call to
2:27 protect yourself from telemarketers now you can just swipe it away it's like get
2:30 out of there now the zoom lens that i've
2:33 mentioned earlier is roughly two times they say that you will get a sharper
2:38 zoom if you zoom in beforehand than if
2:41 you take a photo and crop it so um
2:45 for future reference the one thing that i was disappointed
2:48 not to see that i really want to see maybe they'll add it later is the
2:52 potential of projects solely to kind of detect fine gestures uh when they first
2:57 showed projects solely like you know last year the year before i forget what
3:00 it was they showed its potential to kind of like you know turn volume up by like
3:05 doing this with your fingers or like turn virtual knobs or like slide things
3:09 up or down so i would really like to see that come to this phone i feel like the
3:14 potential is there with the project solely sensors but we'll have to see whether they have that they didn't say
3:18 anything about it but they did show that picture of the guy twiddling his fingers
3:23 google add some add some finger twinly i want to use my phone like this
3:27 okay now in terms of the camera one of the
3:31 features that leaked before this was the dual exposure controls so you'll be able
3:35 to take a photo and not only trust google's computational photography which
3:40 they say is a lot better this year and is incorporating things like machine
3:44 learning to inform the color of the photos they say that like we know that
3:48 people's skin isn't supposed to be blue so if you take a photo and it's super
3:53 blue we'll tune it based on the person's face
3:58 color that might sound weird night sight
4:01 is also getting a huge upgrade uh you'll be able to do you know the
4:05 astrophotography thing leaked beforehand but they showed it and it actually is
4:08 really impressive i'm not sure whether like night sight is going to be the
4:12 exact same strength on like previous pixel phones and the pixel 4 especially
4:16 since they have the dual cameras on the back now but we'll have to see it looks
4:20 more impressive now one of the main things that google kind of emphasized
4:24 during this event was ambient technology
4:27 so they're really trying to make uh things like the google assistant and
4:32 these camera features just kind of work without you really thinking too much
4:35 about it the new google assistant has
4:38 more contextual abilities so they talked about that at
4:42 google i o last year and now we're
4:45 seeing it come to the phones uh we haven't really played around with it a
4:49 ton but you should be able to do things like say an initial thing to google and
4:53 then just kind of keep talking as if you were talking to a a real person like
4:57 there's a tiny little person inside and isn't that the dream i should
5:02 mention real quick the guy at the pixel booth told me that oh we got live
5:06 caption on the pixel 4 xl now i thought that was coming to the pixel 3 with
5:10 Android 10 and he says it's a pixel 4 feature so i
5:15 don't know what that means i don't know if it's coming to pixel 3. i i assume that it's coming to pixel 3's later but
5:19 maybe we'll see that finally launch with the pixel 4 when it launches
5:25 soon apparently it's going to be shipping by october 22nd
5:29 so the other kind of big hardware announcement that they're announcing today is the pixelbook go so a couple
5:34 years ago or three years ago i forget we had the pixel book the original one it's
5:38 a laptop and then last year we got the pixel slate which was kind of you know a
5:43 flagship two-in-one tablet device with a keyboard attachment now they're going
5:48 back to a regular clamshell laptop so
5:51 this is a chromebook it starts at 6 49.
5:54 uh last year the pixel slate started at 5.99
5:58 so they're getting a little more confident with this laptop
6:02 idea um a bit more powerful specs than we
6:05 expected than we saw last year we got some Intel core m processors but you're
6:10 still seeing this kind of like more accessible specs is a nice way to put it
6:15 uh it is a chromebook so you know it's not a Windows machine but
6:19 google's done a lot of work with chrome os to make it more of a desktop type
6:23 operating system they got this grippable texture on the back that's what they're
6:28 calling it these keys are what they're calling hush keys so you should be able
6:32 to type without you know alerting the whole room to
6:36 your uh your essay you're writing a single usbc
6:40 port on both sides so two total and a headphone jack
6:44 and uh it comes in black and a not pink
6:47 version which is not in my hand currently but there's there's one over there now
6:52 this is an interesting setup because i came up to it and it was plugged into
6:57 a display hub it's got a usbc uh cable running to
7:02 a hub on the back which is outputting to HDMI which is powering this samsung uhd
7:09 screen complete with some wireless peripherals
7:12 so uh they're kind of like making the case here that this could be you know
7:16 your full desktop machine instead of kind of you know like a
7:20 chromebook so i just talked to one of the google reps and he did say that the
7:24 lowest processor available is an Intel core m3 but there also is core i5s and
7:30 i7s available so you know that's gonna be a bit more expensive eight gigs of
7:34 RAM at the base level you can go up to 16 gigs and uh the screen 13.3 inch
7:39 display 1080p it's very light i didn't mention that
7:43 that's partially because of the magnesium frame and despite it being so
7:48 light it's got apparently 12 hours of battery
7:52 life uh all together so i like it it's very i could i could go
7:56 with this pixel book go
7:59 uh go to the store now and buy one i don't think you can you gotta you gotta
8:03 pre-order it google has finally uh given an update on the pixel buds we got the
8:08 originals with the tethered version a while back but now we have the fully
8:11 wireless versions very exciting they're going to last for 5 hours
8:17 battery life by themselves with the case 24 hours all together they've got beam
8:21 forming mics combined with a
8:24 voice accelerometer to detect jaw movements so uh even when you're on
8:29 the go like on the bike or something in a loud environment it should be able to hear you on device controls we got the
8:35 tap to play and pause double tap and trickle tap for this next song in
8:40 previous song they also have swipeable volume controls and
8:44 you can talk to the google assistant while you're to control things that way they said
8:48 that the tip itself will do an excellent job of sealing in the base but they
8:52 don't want to give you that uh sealed in feeling so they have a spatial vent on
8:57 the bottom that lets in a bit of ambient sound uh so you don't feel like you're
9:01 underwater they also said that the volume would
9:05 dynamically adjust to the environment so you don't need to constantly volume up
9:08 volume down if things are changing that sounds pretty interesting and they say
9:12 the google assistant is going to be faster than ever because there is some
9:16 dedicated machine learning hardware on this for voice recognition so you can do
9:20 that on device instead of sending it to the cloud every time it also features
9:24 long range bluetooth so you will be able to use these buds
9:29 as much as as many as three rooms away from your phone indoors and as long as a
9:34 football field away outdoors if it works properly when it launches in
9:39 2020 for 179 so that's pretty exciting i
9:43 did done some wireless bluetooth earbuds reviews
9:48 recently and these seem like a pretty exciting pair 179
9:52 is a little steep for my taste but uh it
9:55 seems like they might be if they deliver on the promises they
9:58 might be one of the better ones so we'll have to see
10:02 later so i'm here with the google home mini just kidding google nest mini it's
10:08 a the next generation of the device but it's essentially the exact same design
10:12 they said that people love the home mini size and the form factor so why change
10:16 it you know except this version they say is now made the fabric on top is made of
10:21 100 recycled plastic bottles which is more
10:25 environmentally friendly while still sounding
10:28 good i've never tried to play music through a plastic bottle but
10:33 there's a first time for everything the main difference here is a wall mount a
10:38 third microphone to hear you the better to hear you my dear and on-device
10:43 hardware for voice recognition so saying
10:46 things like hey g-o-o-g-l-e
10:50 turn on the light it should happen like bam gonna launch for 49 similar price to
10:55 the original home mini now the other thing they're doing with kind of home hardware is the new nest wi-fi router
11:01 and point system so the next wi-fi router is
11:05 a router you can use that as part of a mesh wi-fi system with the other point
11:10 devices now this is interesting because the point devices have the google
11:14 assistant baked in so they're essentially like little nest minis uh so
11:18 you can get a router and then kind of dot these
11:21 uh nest wi-fi points around your house and get wi-fi coverage and the google
11:26 assistant following you everywhere you go so it can know everything about you
11:32 and those are launching i think 269 for a two pack of a router and a point but
11:37 you can also buy them individually that's pretty interesting i want to get
11:41 my hands on that those nest wi-fi devices all also have something called
11:45 nest aware which will allow you to
11:48 configure security for your network and you can even do things like prioritize
11:52 traffic for some devices over others and you can
11:56 you know turn the kids wi-fi off by just telling google to do that i don't know
12:00 if you should be giving google power over your children but that's a
12:04 discussion for another day and uh overall seems like pretty
12:08 interesting moves taken by google on the home i mean nest
12:13 front well i think that's what they call a
12:16 google we got the pixel 4 pixelbook go nest
12:21 mini nest wi-fi routers and points uh some
12:24 interesting new products i hope you guys enjoyed watching and uh mark and i are
12:29 gonna get out of here we gotta fly home we gotta edit this and then fly home
12:34 are you excited editing at the airport
12:38 love it all right thanks for watching guys we'll see you tomorrow because well
