0:05 great technology selection and service along with Corsair memory and Western
0:09 Digital welcome to the Samsung booth folks we're here with the crown jewel of
0:14 their display here at CES which happens to also be a display this is a 21 by9
0:20 UHD TV it is 105 Ines diagonally making
0:25 it the largest and the most curved LCD
0:30 display available now it's t when I say available I mean available only to
0:34 people at Samsung where they might have a handful of them for trade shows just
0:37 like this because we don't have any confirmation in terms of exactly when
0:41 it's coming maybe sometime later this year but details are still kind of
0:45 sketchy they just wanted to show it off because hey they can make this thing
0:48 which is absolutely amazing now it's not
0:52 a 4K UHD display instead it actually has
0:55 more than 5,000 pixels horizontally which means that because these standards
1:00 are not 100% ratified someone buying this TV just like someone buying you
1:05 know an HDMI 1.4 TV last year um with
1:09 the update to HDMI 2.0 coming right away might feel kind of insecure is it okay
1:13 to buy something like this without knowing if the standards are are even
1:16 going to be supported well don't worry with Samsung's one connect technology
1:20 they actually are using an external box for connectivity as well as signal
1:24 processing which allows you to just upgrade it once the standards are
1:28 completely ratified now you might be wondering to yourself what exactly would
1:32 I want a 21 by9 display for and the answer is most definitely movies with a
1:36 smaller display and we've been walking around the show floor a fair bit curved
1:40 maybe doesn't make quite as much of a difference but with a large one like this where you're really replicating the
1:45 field of view of a theater within your
1:48 home having each part of the screen an equal distance from your eye can make a
1:53 significant difference to the viewing experience this is much the same reason
1:57 why when you go there this is for the same reason that when you go to theater
2:00 the display looks natural even though it is so large so we're going to be moving
2:04 along here shortly I think someone's actually trying to get past us but it
2:07 looks absolutely phenomenal in person next up we're here with the Galaxy Note
2:12 Pro this is the 12.2 in version but it's also available in 8.4 and 10.1 in
2:17 versions this one's got a quad core processor it's got 3 gigs of RAM of
2:22 course I mean it's a note Series so it's going to be pretty darn highend it's got
2:25 a nice slim form factor it's actually not too heavy although it's hard to gauge with this security device on the
2:30 back speaking of the back it has a pleasing sort of leather feeling plastic
2:35 much like the Note 3 but of course the business is mostly in the front it has a
2:40 massive 12.2 in as I mentioned before 2560 by 1440 display this makes it great
2:47 for watching movies but also due to its size great for taking notes because it
2:51 is approximately the same size as an 8 1/2 by 11 standard sheet of note taking
2:57 paper now of course a note device is not just about the hardware it's also about
3:01 the software so we see a lot of carryovers including an included stylist
3:06 that tucks away in the side from the Note 3 you've got Samsung's airdrop
3:09 functionality so you just hover the pen over the display and then press the
3:13 button and you can go ahead and select a bunch of different stuff you can draw a
3:16 little window if you need a calculator you want to watch video or something
3:19 like that with the supported applications and it makes multitasking a
3:23 little bit easier than with many other Android devices thanks to TouchWiz now
3:28 here's a new one that I haven't actually seen before if you swipe in from the
3:31 right and then instead of just clicking on one of the applications if you hold
3:35 it and drag you can configure up to four
3:38 different applications in a screen sharing mode that will make working on
3:42 things quite efficient especially if you move from one to another and back and
3:46 forth and so forth now I did that slightly wrong there I think oh I think
3:50 this one doesn't work that way so let's go ahead and grab uh contacts here there
3:54 we go so we're going to split this up four ways actually we'll just do it
3:57 three ways and then check this out guys you can actually move around the division
4:00 so if you want to have a nice long column for your emails you can have that
4:04 and then you can see more of your video thumbnails if you want to see more of your contacts over here you can just
4:07 move that around dynamically it's incredibly cool and it integrates
4:11 seamlessly with the other features so I could still use airdrop to you know like
4:15 grab a little calculator or something like that now a device like this is not
4:19 just for play it's also for work so we're going to go ahead and show you
4:22 guys their new software that is I guess meant to compete with things like um
4:27 Windows RT's inclusion of Microsoft office or Apple's inclusion of
4:31 productivity software with their devices now so check this out we're going to
4:34 swipe open from the right hold on come in from the right here and this is
4:39 handcom so you've got sell show and word which are of course going to be
4:43 spreadsheets uh presentations and then typing so we're going to go ahead and
4:47 open one of these bad boys check that out they are they are claiming it's 90%
4:51 compatible with Microsoft Word so unless you're using some of the more obscure
4:55 features things will open up correctly even if you're saving them and then
4:58 opening them back and forth between devices
5:01 and because of the size okay that's a normal keyboard this is pretty cool guys
5:05 I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to close a bunch of other things and we're
5:09 going to open up the handcom word so HW
5:13 in full screen maximize that and check
5:17 this out you've got almost about the size of a laptop keyboard on here it's
5:21 not super easy to type on I made a few quite a few mistakes at the beginning
5:24 but with a little bit of practice it would definitely be faster than trying
5:27 to type with just two thumbs so you kind of go okay lonus that's great there's a
5:32 lot of productivity stuff here that sounds fantastic but what if I can't
5:35 take this thing to work because my office doesn't allow people to bring
5:38 their own devices don't worry it is fully Samsung nox compliant so you've
5:42 got all the encryption features that you need if you need to access vpns offsite
5:46 or whatever else the case may be so it's definitely meant to be both
5:49 entertainment and productivity thanks for checking out our coverage of the
5:52 Samsung booth here at CES 2014 don't forget our trip to the show is powered
5:56 by nc.com as well as Corsair and Western
5:59 digital a huge thanks to those guys because without them we would not have
6:02 been able to be here
