0:00 so I had someone send me a message on my uh my YouTube messages today um and they
0:05 asked me how to install an LGA 1156 CPU
0:11 so that kind of inspired me to do a series of CPU installation tips so I've
0:16 got an Intel confidential CPU I can't tell you what that is but the first one
0:21 I'm going to be doing is how to install a CPU in an LGA 1156 motherboard so step
0:27 one would be find a CPU okay so as long
0:30 as you've completed that the actual first step would be to take the lever
0:34 here and then you push down a little bit pull it out to the side and then lift it
0:39 up actually you don't need to lift much because it's it's kind of springloaded
0:43 here so you can see the pressure that the ARM is uh putting down over here and
0:48 that actually forces the um socket to
0:53 slide under this bolt okay so that's
0:56 what is giving the pressure to hold your CPU in so you pull out lift up the ARM
1:02 that's going to cause this to sort of Y there we go lift up so once that
1:06 protective cover is removed you should remove any cats from the vicinity
1:10 because cats will cause all kinds of problems during CPU installation step
1:15 two would be to see that little place where it says remove remove that so you
1:20 hold your thumb under there lift it up okay so you're removing the protective
1:24 cover from the LGA 1156 socket this is
1:27 the part where it could get hairy if you have a cat so there's
1:31 1,156 pins in there all of which need to make perfect contact with the
1:36 1,156 pins on the bottom of your CPU now you see these two notches up at the top
1:40 here right there and then at the bottom right here those two notches need to
1:45 line up with The Notches in the socket which are here and here okay so I got to
1:51 line up my CPU which means it's going to go in some kind of different orientation
1:56 hold on put it this way ah this is
2:00 harder than it looks folks I'm looking through the camera installing a CPU so
2:03 you get it lined up just right so you can see my notches are where they belong
2:08 drop it into the socket being very careful I like to give it a little bit
2:11 of a wiggle just to make sure it's in the right spot then you take the cover
2:17 here you put it right where it goes sort of so that it can slide down here so you
2:21 just it's going to be loose that's normal okay so then you take the
2:25 lever pull it all the way down there's going to you're applying some pressure
2:28 here like that actually is putting a fair amount of force back on my finger
2:32 so once you do that you can see that the CPU is actually held in by these two
2:37 tabs right here more than anything else so those line up with a little metal tab
2:41 on the heat spreader and that's what gives your CPU the force downward that
2:45 it needs to ensure it makes good contact with the pads in the socket so thank you
2:50 for checking out my installation tip for
2:53 LGA 1156 more to come
