0:00 it seems like yesterday we were treating 500 plus doll TN panel displays as if
0:04 they were a golden gift from the PC Gods just CU they were 4K I mean they had
0:10 solid response times with single tile displays with some even delivering 8 bit
0:14 panels decent viewing angles and acceptable color reproduction
0:18 considering they were TM panels and you know what I guess they were a gift
0:21 because at that time 4K monitors with sharp exigo panels were going for
0:26 multiple thousands of dollars but the
0:30 story is different today and the vp278
0:33 4K is a perfect showcase piece for
0:37 everything that's great about the onward March of modern technology it's built
0:42 better and performs better than what you could buy a short year ago without
0:47 costing relative to what you're getting for your money that much more and on the
0:51 subject of not costing that much more it's time to drop a solid hint about the
0:57 next episode of scrapyard Wars It's coming sometime in the next month and
1:02 our guest competitor will be Austin Evans and I guess that's pretty much all
1:07 the hints but drop a like and let us know if you're stoked to see
1:18 it the Logitech g303 features a lightweight design an advanced Optical
1:23 sensor with Delta zero technology for precise tracking and RGB lighting to
1:27 match your setup click now to to learn more or check out the link in the video
1:31 description the betterness of this monitor begins with the panel specs it's
1:36 27 in which is still the right size for me for a 16x9 monitor about the same
1:41 vertical height as a 34-in Ultra wide it features a w LED back lit 8bit ahps
1:47 panel with Advanced frame rate control to achieve virtual 10-bit performance
1:51 something that you are almost guaranteed to not be utilizing thanks to poor
1:56 hardware and application support but might make you feel good about your desk
1:59 mounted EP and extension the backlight uses DC brightness control and is
2:04 therefore flicker-free something which manufacturers are keen on pointing out
2:08 is less fatiguing on the eyes viewing angles are outstanding with just a
2:13 little bit of contrast shift vertically but nothing noticeable from reasonable
2:17 viewing angles the backlight didn't exhibit excessive bleed and the
2:22 anti-glare coating on the screen is pleasingly light and it doesn't make
2:26 everything behind it hazy but does significantly reduce Reflections and I
2:31 also said it's built better what did I mean by that great question the
2:34 industrial design is nothing special and screams I belong in an office but that's
2:40 not necessarily a bad thing in my book there's something to be said for
2:43 practical design the VP 27 84k features
2:46 a standard vase amount thumbs up there if you want to put it on a thirdparty
2:50 mount but this might not be a big deal
2:53 because it also features a wide solidly built base with most of the ergonomic
2:58 adjustments that anyone would want including height adjust tilt swivel and
3:04 even pivot for the portrait mode fans out there since we've got it on its side
3:08 let's have a look at the io there's a two Port USB 3 5 GB per second Hub then
3:14 wow that's a lot of HDMI ports W but
3:18 there's actually more to them than meets the eye one of them is HDMI 2.0 and we
3:24 verified that it was no problem to run Ultra HD resolution at 60 HZ over HDMI
3:29 is nice very nice and two of the other ones are MHL 2.0 which means that you
3:34 could hook up your MHL compatible phone
3:37 to them if you wanted to do that for some reason DisplayPort 1.2 and mini
3:42 DisplayPort 1.2 are also included which means pretty much any modern desktop or
3:47 laptop can be plugged in and easily switched between or set up in picture in
3:52 picture or picture by picture viewing mode with up to four simultaneous inputs
3:57 possible in the four corners of the monitor but that's a pretty fringe use
4:01 casee scenario and unfortunately you'll have to contend with the onscreen menu
4:07 to set it up if everything about this monitor was amazing and actually it's
4:11 like pretty darn good I really like it I still wouldn't be able to say the
4:16 onscreen menu was anything but wretched they're poorly labeled two is confirm
4:21 and one is back for some inexplicable reason 10 points from Gryffindor it uses
4:26 touch sensitive buttons with no tactile feel whatsoever
4:30 100 points from Gryffindor and the tactile buttons only register about 65%
4:35 of the time 500 points from Gryffindor
4:39 excuse me view Sonic did I say Gryffindor all those times but like I said everything else about it is pretty
4:43 darn good out of the box I mean maybe it's just my luck but even Factory
4:48 calibrated displays have always been a little off for me the VP 2780 was a
4:53 little bit off white point was about 7% off uh she achieved about 96% of the
4:58 claimed 100% % srgb color space and
5:01 brightness was cranked up pretty high but to be clear what you're looking at
5:05 is not bad performance and brightness can easily be adjusted Without Really
5:09 affecting anything else and after a run with the i1 pro I would consider this
5:13 puppy a very capable and affordable monitor for pro suumer and even
5:18 professional photo and video Work by the way thanks to spectracal and xrite for
5:22 hooking us up with the hardware and software that we used for those
5:25 performance measurements but let's change gears a little bit it always
5:29 amuses when companies seem to just plain not be able to decide what segment of
5:33 the market their product is for and they'll have like this presentation deck
5:38 that looks like this and it's like um well uh this monitor is great for well I
5:42 guess um everything and then there's usually like gaming randomly tacked onto
5:47 the end of the list like yeah um well Gamers have money right well it's good
5:51 it's good for them but in this case I actually kind of buy it with an
5:55 impressive total input leg of about 10 milliseconds this 4K to display will not
6:00 be holding you back as long as you're not competing on the professional level
6:04 in which case you probably aren't using a 4K display anyway and as much as I can
6:08 rag on bonic for advertising an outof thebox Delta e of less than two which is
6:13 I mean obviously didn't quite achieve what I will say about the default native
6:19 setup that it ships with is that it has a very pleasing look to the eye and that
6:24 for gaming use I would actually have no desire to change it to a more accurate
6:28 color profile it pops Just Right without
6:31 having that way overthe toop saturation and contrast thing that you'd find on
6:35 any monitor on a Shelf at Best Buy which leaves the final words to attract the
6:41 pure gamer crowd I need to see support for an Adaptive refresh rate technology
6:47 of some sort uh free sync or gsync but
6:50 the VP 2784 K sells itself admirably to
6:54 the semi-pro content creator Who games on the side with its great panel
6:58 performance and solid build quality speaking of solid build quality I Fixit
7:03 toolkits you may know I fix it from their tear downs and repair Guides of a
7:07 variety of electronic devices but what you might not know is they actually have
7:12 a ton of Fantastic Tools available including the prote tool kit it's got 70
7:18 Tools in there to assist you with any mod malfunction or Misfortune it
7:22 includes the 54-- bit driver kit which I use all the time it's got like pentalobe
7:28 bits and security bits and tri-wing bits
7:31 and triangle bits I've never even seen a triangle bit but if I did my fix it kit
7:37 would take care of it just fine it's got an ESD safe bunch of like prying tools
7:42 and tweezers and all kinds of great stuff we're working on really little
7:46 projects an antistatic wrist strap spudgers in both nylon and metal all
7:51 kinds of great stuff and it's only 6495 and backed by a lifetime warranty and on
7:57 top of that if you guys use offer code LTT for the next limited period of time
8:02 you can save 10 bucks on a purchase of $50 or more over at ifixit.com Linus
