0:00 are you tired of gaming in boring old 4k
0:03 well this sucks i could barely even make out the individual pixels
0:08 how am i even gonna know it's a video game are you tired of having all that extra
0:13 money in your wallet introducing the new rtx 2060 the more
0:18 expensive version of the gtx 1160 we accidentally leaked a few weeks ago now
0:23 you can play all your compatible games at half the frame rate
0:27 buy now awesome
0:30 and you know what else is awesome our sponsor for this video glasswire with
0:34 glasswire you can instantly see your current and past network activity detect
0:38 malware and block badly behaving apps on your pc or Android device use offer code
0:42 Linus to get 25 off below
0:53 all kidding aside we've been pretty negative about product releases from
0:57 NVIDIA lately and while it's good to get our frustrations out every once in a
1:02 while it gets pretty boring if everything is crap you know so for this
1:06 review i'm going to give the rtx 2060 every
1:12 chance i can for it to impress me and i'm gonna try not to think too much
1:17 about my problems with the rest of the rtx launches
1:20 and that should be pretty easy on paper this
1:24 thing actually has a lot going for it compared to the gtx 1060 it's got more
1:30 cuda cores and way faster memory uh that
1:33 is depending on which version of the card you get more on that later and
1:37 that's to say nothing of the inclusion of the usb type-c based virtual link
1:42 connector in fact the rtx 2060 looks
1:46 more like a beefed up gtx 1070
1:50 which is great because it's priced that way too okay all right sorry i'm letting
1:54 a little bit of salt seep in here but at 3 49 NVIDIA's newest real-time ray
2:00 tracing accelerator is a cool hondo more
2:03 than its direct predecessor 60 tier card
2:07 anywho like the gtx 1070 we are down to
2:11 one 8-pin pci express power connector and while our founders edition is still
2:16 rocking the new rtx style dual fan cooler design we're treated to a smaller
2:22 lighter card overall that on the surface looks a lot friendlier to small form
2:27 factors than his bigger brothers in practice though this shorter pcb
2:32 design ends up being less helpful than you'd think thanks to the rear position
2:37 of the pci express power connector bummer
2:40 partner boards don't have to end up that way though so all that really matters
2:44 about our founders edition is how it performs
2:48 since launching two uproarious applause rtx ray tracing and deep learning super
2:54 sampling anti-aliasing have been hot new features announced for dozens of games
2:59 so we should have plenty to look at now that it's been on the market for several
3:03 months
3:06 rats that was more salt there wasn't it but it's okay it's okay at least we have
3:09 something to look at now the shadow of the tomb raider team's only birthday
3:13 present to me ended up being empty promises but battlefield 5 and final
3:17 fantasy xv respectively had support for these features though a new card
3:23 supporting them doesn't tell us much that we didn't already know our FPS is
3:27 roughly halved for the privilege of turning rtx on which in this case
3:33 unfortunately takes a GPU that is capable of playable frame rates at 4k
3:38 medium settings and drops us to 1080p is
3:42 the difference between 1080p and 4k that noticeable
3:46 maybe not so much like we're really in the heat of battle but as we discussed
3:50 in our recent video on resolution versus frame rate the inability to run at
3:55 greater than 60 FPS is going to put you at a competitive disadvantage in
4:00 competitive games and that difference in resolution is noticeable in sightseeing
4:05 titles as for dlss it performs pretty
4:09 well but it's locked at 4k
4:12 which means that this card translates to a passable score in the final fantasy 15
4:19 benchmark it's not a great benchmark but it does show us a pretty representative
4:24 performance difference between taa and dlss
4:28 now whether or not you like the lss anyway and the shimmering that it
4:32 retains on thin edges versus taa that's another story on to more
4:37 traditional gaming scenarios the rtx 2060 runs significantly faster than the
4:41 gtx 1070 a pretty solid place to be
4:45 considering its similar specs and launch price directx 12 in particular
4:49 exemplifies the improvements to asynchronous compute that turing brings
4:52 to the table and as a result we've got a decent uplift pretty much across the
4:57 board and the rtx 2060s prospects improve even
5:01 further in our productivity suite where it beats out the gtx 1070 by a
5:05 significant margin in luxmark and for that matter actually most workstation
5:10 tasks budget workstation use actually might be
5:14 this card's calling especially when you look at its performance across all but
5:18 one test in specuperf now while we didn't run any deep
5:22 learning tests today armchair ai researchers should directly benefit from
5:26 the tensor course and the fact that the GeForce rtx 2060 is the cheapest card
5:32 that has them it should come as no surprise though but with all this tech
5:36 packed into it power consumption is up along with thermal output showing us
5:40 exactly why the card still rocks the
5:43 dense fin arrangement and dual fan cooler design it's not terrible though
5:49 because the thing about power and thermals is that you always have to look
5:53 at it relatively and AMD's closest
5:56 performance competitor vega isn't even in the same ballpark
6:01 helping matters further partner cards will probably have some interesting
6:04 board layouts and cooling solutions that should make this a very versatile little
6:10 GPU with all of that in mind
6:14 who exactly is the rtx 2064 well at risk
6:18 of sounding negative for the life of me i can't think of a reason to use its
6:23 premiere feature you know the one that's printed several times on the card
6:29 i mean even at medium settings it still
6:32 halves your frame rate which is unacceptable for a competitive shooter
6:36 like battlefield 5 especially if you use a high refresh rate monitor
6:41 and yes dlss is faster than taa but that
6:45 assumes that a 6 gig card can run future
6:48 supported games in 4k well enough to even use the feature
6:54 as for traditional rendering well it's faster than a gtx 1070 at a similar
6:58 launch price but then you're paying a hundred dollar
7:02 premium on a 60 series card compared to
7:05 the previous 60 series anyway just for the privilege of that rtx badge that
7:10 you're not using so the real conclusion here seems to be the one that we haven't
7:14 been given the information to draw and that's that you should buy the rumored
7:19 upcoming rtx list gtx 1160 that was
7:23 leaked with otherwise identical specs
7:27 now workstation performance seems really promising at first but the 1160 should
7:32 come with the same benefits there as well unless you're into deep learning
7:37 which leaves us today then with a card that occupies a tidy little
7:42 decent gaming and also light workstation use niche until NVIDIA undermines its
7:47 own product with a lower priced alternative so
7:50 buy it quickly then to ensure that it's not irrelevant by the time it arrives oh
7:54 but buy the right version because rumor has it there's three different memory
7:59 configurations across three different capacities so
