0:00 okay so we know we haven't done any motherboard videos on this channel for a
0:06 long freaking time and as for why well
0:11 we've said it before there are parts of your computer that dramatically affect
0:16 performance and there are parts that if you're willing to forgo a few Creature
0:20 Comforts you can save a few bucks on but
0:24 how low can you go today we are looking
0:29 at the EC s a55
0:32 f- M4 1.0 the cheapest motherboard on
0:37 Amazon in a standard form factor it's
0:41 only 30 bucks and isn't it
0:54 beautiful browse privately and securely
0:58 with tunnel bear the simple VPN app try
1:01 tunnel bear for free at the link in the video
1:04 description now first things first to properly appreciate the ghetto
1:08 fabulousness of this motherboard I got a getting character meet L unit sort of a
1:16 v anyway we're going to start by taking a look at this baby from the back I'm
1:22 talking rear IO man
1:26 yeah nobody there don't worry about it
1:29 any anyway we can see it is absolutely packed with gaming features I'm talking
1:35 two PS2 ports PS2 with support for n key
1:41 rollover something that's still rare even on high-end USB keyboards on that
1:46 subject we have four USB 2.0 ports that
1:50 puts this on par with the ASUS Crosshair
1:54 6 and is a huge Boon when you're installing Windows 7 via USB like I
2:00 always do on Friday nights throw in a touch of gigabit Ethernet and audio
2:05 jacks rated at Deb signal to noise ratio and we are
2:11 ready to get our Counter Strike Source on oh and did I mention it supports both
2:17 VGA and HDMI more on that later first
2:21 let's check out the internal connectivity as I call it junk under the
2:26 hood not only do we get four say to 3
2:31 gbit per second connections right there in the bottom right that's 12 gabs per
2:37 second total but we also have support for four more usb2 ports via the front
2:43 panel I mean you got to be some kind of king or some to afford enough USBS to
2:49 plug into all that high defin audio Yeah
2:55 I know the definition of high know what I'm saying and spit if we got spit if
3:01 damn whatever that means but let's get
3:04 serious again what are those headers
3:07 down there that my friends is a Serial
3:11 interface like serial killer and a a
3:15 parallel interface like a parallel
3:18 Dimension highly desirable features that
3:21 very few motherboards come equipped with nowadays possibly as a cost-saving
3:26 measure but no such Corners were cut on
3:30 the ECS a55 f- M4 1.0 this version 1.0
3:36 cuz they get it right the first time know what I'm saying and thanks to these
3:41 we can use virtually any peripheral or
3:44 printer that we want okay lonus then so
3:48 this board has more IO than we know what to do with for a number of reasons but
3:54 what kind of balls to thewall Hardware can we put on here well feast your eyes
4:00 on this baby it supports up to the A8
4:06 3870 Apu which unlike ryzen needs
4:13 DDR3 only to be fli and awesome and
4:16 comes with integrated radon Graphics
4:21 processing that's better than some of the dedicated cards we've tested and
4:25 with four cores at three billion Hertz
4:30 this 1.78 billion transistor Beast is
4:34 unlocked primed and ready for the toughest gaming challenges we can throw
4:39 at it plus it's compatible with uh socket am3 coolers so we'll be able to
4:44 make use of our existing stock here now
4:48 we got to match this Beast with nothing
4:52 but the best so we've got
4:55 ourselves after we get it installed here
5:00 yeah there we go it's on there get the RAM in
5:06 there okay there we go it's fast see
5:10 it's fast like that so we're putting our GTX 1080 TI in what we got a fulllength
5:17 PCI Express lot here we're
5:20 talking 168 pins of power and data here
5:26 that's right so combining this with our
5:29 four Lono cores and 16 gigs of RAM baby
5:35 there is nothing this thing can't run
5:38 technically speaking that is we aren't promising that it'll run well compared
5:44 to our kbl leg testbench limiting ourselves to this class of CPU is
5:50 actually a lot to give up even when
5:54 overclocked single-threaded performance on this thing okay we can lose the we
5:58 can lose the character now is anywhere from about half to a fifth of the speed
6:05 of KB Lake and multi-threaded performance is as low as a sixth but
6:12 we've all heard that direct X12 and Vulcan can actually favor weaker CPUs
6:18 regardless of the GPU thanks to their lower API overhead and as we can see
6:24 here oh well it just gets dominated even
6:28 with a 1080ti in CPU intensive games
6:32 like DSX mankind divided we get a decent
6:36 bump with our overclock on directx11 but
6:39 not on Direct X12 where we actually end
6:42 up within our margin of error so then in
6:48 all seriousness what are you actually
6:51 getting with a board like this well you
6:55 are locking yourself into an ancient
6:58 platform that only had one very
7:02 underwhelming generation of CPU support you are losing support for even sort of
7:08 new features like USB 3 and SATA 6
7:12 gigabit never mind NVMe and usb3.1 and you are stepping down to a
7:18 level of build quality and firmware support that is frankly unacceptable for
7:23 anyone let alone Enthusiast I mean yes
7:27 technically you can overclock it K but
7:31 barely with that said is it usable
7:37 well if you take anything away from this video it's that the advice of don't
7:43 worry about the motherboard should really be taken with the caveat that it
7:48 means within a given generation of
7:52 Hardware if you're buying the top of the line board for the heck of it you are
7:56 doing neither the board nor your wallet any justice but in the case of this
8:02 thing well I think it's safe to say that buying the Flatout cheapest is another
8:08 way to achieve exactly that freshbooks cloud accounting
8:13 software was custombuilt for you small

8:40 just a couple clicks and get paid up to 4 days faster this is a really cool
8:46 feature I don't even know how they did this but you can actually see when your

9:20 if you dislike this video you can hit that button but if you liked it hit the
9:23 like button get subscribed maybe consider checking out where to buy uh
9:26 maybe not this maybe we'll put some like reasonable motherboard and CPU option down there
9:31 that we actually recommend as a good value we've got that Linked In the video
9:34 description and uh so don't forget to subscribe and oh yeah also down there we
9:39 have a link to our merch store where you can buy cool t-shirts like this
9:42 one no wait no 3+ one I think it's like
9:45 one phase for RAM wait no no there's no no no it's four there a four phase power
9:50 what you talking about Willis that's not so bad 32 nanometer CPU do you know how
9:55 big a nanometer is that's tiny
10:01 man there's like there's like not even any copper in it you
10:05 know uh sorry did we even slate that I'm
10:08 rolling oh you're rolling oh good okay wonderful
