0:00 I liked my original delx ps12 2in1 a lot
0:03 so much in fact that I made this video that never got released because my hair
0:08 looked awful other than some screen burning
0:12 issues it's been a fantastic machine and it's still in service today partly
0:17 because since then there hasn't been anything quite like it more recent XPS
0:23 12 two in ones have been ASUS transformer style tablets with
0:28 detachable keyboard well no more a proper super compact
0:35 twoin one is back the Dell XPS 13
0:39 9365 2in1 2017 or as I'm christening it the folden
0:45 atrick 9000 because Dell's name for it
0:49 is terrible
1:00 anker's power core 5000 is a two-in-one portable charger and wall charger
1:05 featuring 5,000 milliamp hours of capacity check it and their Valentine's
1:10 promotion out at the link below the folden Atrix 9000 comes out ahead of its
1:15 predecessor in most ways build quality
1:19 is a step up with an aluminum and carbon fiber shell that manages to get lighter
1:24 and thinner without losing any of that
1:28 quality feel so the razor blade stealth
1:31 no longer stands out from other Ultra Portables at the starting at $9.99 price
1:36 point the screen is far from color accurate out of the box but it's bright
1:42 with great contrast and Dell's trademark
1:45 Infinity Edge that gives this 13-in
1:48 device a much smaller footprint than
1:52 even modern competitors like the HP Spectre X360 2017 a 13in 2in1 that I
1:59 covered here here it's very very totable
2:02 and the performance compromise is much less than I expected Dell claims that by
2:08 dynamically boosting the power delivery to the processor they have overcome the
2:13 disappointing performance of last generation super low power Intel y
2:18 series devices while still achieving a
2:21 fanless cooling solution and I'm
2:25 impressed it won't hold up to sustained
2:28 gaming loads with an ex Thunderbolt 3 video card as well due to its lower
2:34 clock speeds and inferior cooling but on
2:37 battery the XPS comes within spitting distance of the X360 which sports a much
2:43 faster on paper core i7 7500 U though
2:48 Nothing in life is free and it should also be noted that the battery life for
2:53 both machines ended up being very similar as well and on top of that
2:59 neither of of them is capable of smooth 4K YouTube video playback without
3:03 running into CPU bottlenecking from time to time let's talk hinge the satisfying
3:11 but probably fragile and expensive to manufacture Ferris wheel is dead and the
3:17 industry seems to have collectively decided a 360° yoga style hinge is the
3:23 way to make a single device operate in laptop tablet mode or somewhere in
3:29 between so it comes down then to who makes the best one and Dell's is good if
3:36 a little underwhelming next to the X360 they both have wonderfully smooth action
3:41 but HP managed to achieve a one-finger
3:44 lift while the XPS is actually kind of challenging to pry openen IO is another
3:50 trade-off prospective XPS buyers will need to consider I've accepted that I'll
3:55 need to carry type-c dongles for the rest of my life but I do wish that like
4:01 the X360 it had at least one full-size
4:05 type a port in case I forget the
4:08 speakers are loud and sound quality good
4:11 for an ultra portable and the webcam is
4:14 mostly decent with a very good array mic
4:17 but if you use yours a lot you might not
4:21 like its position at the bottom of the screen you end up with that creepy
4:25 looking down at you expression that uh
4:28 isn't present on competing models like the X360 2017 more good news though the
4:34 onboard 2x2 Wi-Fi knocked my freaking
4:37 socks off this is the first time I've
4:40 seen consistent 50 megabyte pers second
4:44 transfers on a laptop it's using a year
4:48 old chipset from Intel so it must just be a very excellent antenna design which
4:54 brings us finally to the bad news I'm not a huge fan of the bottom half of the
4:59 clam shell the fingerprint sensor is
5:02 fast and accurate but it really needs to be back lit so I can find it in the dark
5:07 and an IR camera here instead would be a
5:10 welcome Improvement next time around the touchpad has a consistent click feel
5:15 below the top quarter and is much better with the speed turned down a notch and
5:19 the Palm rejection delay adjusted to quick but it still Jitters too much when
5:24 operated two-handed I give it a B+ as for the keyboard it's not
5:30 terrible or anything the layout is mostly pretty good especially
5:35 considering how little space they had to work with but there's also not much that
5:39 I like about it the soft touch finish
5:43 combined with the very spongy tactile feel of the switches gives it a feeling
5:48 kind of like typing on a sofa number row
5:51 inputs register incorrectly when you press keys too quickly and I hate hate
5:59 hate eight the arrow key layout page up
6:03 page down home and end should be handled
6:06 with function plus arrows and don't need
6:10 dedicated keys this was really frustrating just about every other time
6:15 I wanted to move the cursor one spot I ended up scrolling the whole
6:20 page with that said the folden Atrix
6:24 9000 is a pretty cool little twoin one
6:28 it's fanless delivered top-notch battery life comes equipped with Thunderbolt 3
6:33 is reasonably priced and does all of this with a 360° hinge something you
6:39 might not end up using that much because it's still pretty heavy to use as a
6:44 tablet but with how little now that you're giving up compared to previous
6:48 convertibles for that hinge hey it might
6:52 be time for traditional notebook users to consider converting
7:00 yeah I'll show myself up speaking of tools for the job it's
