0:00 and we're hopefully actually live this time i guess you guys in the twitch chat
0:05 will have to let me know how we're doing here
0:09 are we live
0:13 blind says we're just seeing the Linus jobs image wait hold on some people are
0:17 seeing it i'm getting nopes i'm getting one person said it's up but sometimes
0:21 that's just that's just that's just trolling and that's not actually helpful
0:26 wait now there's more people saying it's up
0:29 yes we're live awesome okay which means that now i have to go and
0:35 oh live stream is on after all join
0:40 us
0:43 and i'm gonna change the name of the video that i created on youtube so that
0:47 people would be able to join the live stream and i changed it then to twitch
0:50 tvs having problems and so the live stream is cancelled so pretty much
0:55 everyone who looked at that video is now not going to join the live stream
1:00 anymore and oh what a shame what a shame what a
1:06 shame so hopefully you guys have noticed that i
1:09 have a completely new setup tonight so i am no longer using a webcam in fact the
1:15 webcam that i was using is not even here anymore and not only is the webcam not
1:20 here anymore but this this sound card and the other sound cards and the
1:25 onboard sound that drove me crazy none of that i don't even need this anymore
1:29 why am even wearing this pointless okay so the sound card that i
1:33 was using before the microphones everything you guys have been complaining about is fixed totally fixed
1:39 now i haven't done much in terms of tweaking the actual streaming quality
1:44 within twitch tv but what i have done is
1:47 i have upgraded my camera i have upgraded my microphone i have upgraded
1:52 my lighting is the lighting okay because i can turn it up i can turn it down i
1:56 have upgraded my capture device so i'm gonna give you guys a yeah see everyone
2:02 on twitch chat's going crazy they're saying it's outstanding so it's great
2:05 right it's good it looks like like like production quality kind of thing
2:10 yes all right that is fantastic i'm so happy to hear
2:16 that because i know i've been promising you guys i'm promising you guys that i'm
2:21 going to upgrade the equipment and don't worry we're not going to be stuck with this forever i mean remember how my face
2:26 used to have like this deathly power of whiteness because basically
2:31 all i could do with my countertop set up here was have my my laptop sitting here
2:37 and then i could just turn on all the lights in this room which is really not
2:40 enough for for like a production environment and then like my face was
2:45 always whited out because the camera was way too close but i couldn't move any
2:49 further away and just everything was bad and everything was
2:52 was terrible and diesel's texting me right now he's asking did you change the
2:56 picture profile and i don't know man i don't know what's going on and uh all i
3:02 know is you guys are saying that everything is good no
3:06 tool1289 cannot have my old equipment because we will still be using the old
3:10 equipment now a lot of people in my unboxing of the fs700 were a little bit
3:15 critical they were a little bit critical of how much money i spent on a camera
3:19 for youtube unboxings however there are big plans that involve far more than
3:24 just unboxings on youtube that is the tip of the iceberg that is not what
3:30 the plan is for this uber expensive camera okay
3:34 um and but we will still be using the xa10 we'll still be using the other
3:39 equipment just in different ways so i want like a dual camera set up i want an
3:43 a-roll and a b-roll i want the a-roll to
3:47 be awesome when the 4k firmware upgrade comes out for this camera you guys can
3:51 bet i will be upgrading it to it immediately so that we can start
3:56 capturing 4k video whether it's lightest
4:00 tech tips or whether it's you know cats or any other channel you know depending
4:05 on what we end up doing but i want to be the first one to bring 4k video of all
4:09 kinds of cool stuff to the youtubes in a blog style which means you know we'll
4:14 actually have sort of volume of of content going on so we're uh we're
4:19 trying to get together the resources to put together like an editing machine and
4:22 capture machine that can actually capture
4:26 like honestly guys i've got a velociraptor in
4:29 the machine that i'm using right now to capture the HDMI stream in fact i'll
4:33 give you guys a tour of the new setup very shortly here but i've got a
4:36 velociraptor that i'm using for that and um
4:40 when i ran the test with the blackmagic intensity pro card it basically gave me
4:45 like uh oh this isn't good enough to capture 1080p
4:49 okay so 4k is going to be about four times the bandwidth requirements of
4:54 1080p which means i would basically need like the velociraptor's sole borderline
4:58 so i would basically need like a couple ssds in raid 0 to capture
5:04 it per stream and who knows we might have
5:07 more than one stream okay so i need a couple of those or i need like four hard
5:12 drives in raid 0 just to capture this footage and when i captured about 45
5:16 seconds of HDMI uh 1080p sorry HDMI
5:19 1080p footage i was getting like one plus Gigabyte file sizes so when we're
5:25 capturing 4k every minute should be about eight gigs
5:30 and yes tetrasky i know that maxres on youtube is 1080p 4k filming can be
5:35 pointless all you want however youtube
5:38 is capable of outputting i believe it's 2.5 k and
5:44 down sampled 4k will always look better
5:47 than something that was captured at 1080p you can say it's useless all you
5:52 want but
5:55 the future is something that we have to actually
5:58 plan for around here so i'm not going to invest in equipment that when 4k gets
6:03 enabled when everyone can actually afford to buy a 4k tv
6:08 i'm going to be ready for it so exciting exciting stuff so yeah i'll
6:13 give you guys a tour of the new setup so first of all there's uh
6:17 there's this
6:20 check this out so this is like the case
6:23 that my new lights came in like this is the case i got the kit so it comes with
6:28 pretty much everything you need except i mean of all things it doesn't come with
6:32 bulbs so i had to actually buy bulbs so there's that okay and then i'm gonna
6:36 just go ahead and oh check this out you guys you guys are gonna love this you
6:39 guys are gonna love this so we've got a new tripod now i hope i don't mess it up i think
6:44 i'm on autofocus right now so let me see
6:47 yeah i'm on autofocus right now so it should be fine so check out the new
6:50 tripod this is like how smoothly
6:53 i can pan around and i'm not nearly as good at this stuff as uh as diesel but
6:59 our new manfrotto tripod is awesome maybe i'll give you guys a quick like
7:04 tour of my my kitchen here so that's where i keep my glassware
7:08 and then this is where i keep other glassware and like cups and stuff
7:13 and this is my microwave and this right here is the meat for my
7:19 dinner which i haven't had a chance to eat yet because i love you guys more
7:23 than i love nourishing my body and
7:27 there's a pot with the curry that i'm going to eat tomorrow in it which is
7:31 super exciting because it's my favorite thing ever this is my fridge
7:35 i just i love this new setup so much
7:39 so very much it's just way too awesome
7:43 so there's my little like glass roof
7:46 sort of breakfast nook thing that's going on there's my classic AMD 64 water
7:52 bottle that i covered in AMD stickers these are the new lights so i've got two
7:56 of these these are keelflow something or others 40 something diva light divalite
8:01 400 something i think and uh they're they're awesome
8:05 and then over there is my water cooler and then here's my dishes and my oh
8:09 there's my breakfast cereal apple cinnamon cheerios for the win am i right
8:13 see there's more it branded water bottles got my ASUS water bottle
8:17 and i think we're pretty much done here except for the most exciting part which
8:22 is my capture pc so the capture pc let's go
8:27 ahead and test out the zoom here so i just got the kit lens for the fs700
8:30 which means that it does have a zoom on it it was only about a 600 adder so
8:34 let's get in pretty close there so there
8:38 on the left hand side is the blackmagic intensity pro so
8:44 there's my HDMI in and then on the right hand side is an avermedia live gamer hd
8:49 so the intensity pro isn't quite working yet with my
8:53 xa10 so i'm hoping that if that doesn't work then i can either use the avermedia
8:58 or avermedia has another one so look at this even when i'm zoomed right in i can
9:01 still i can still pan reasonably well
9:05 although it's not that great so let's have a look at the i o let's see how the
9:08 auto autofocus does here oh that looks so good
9:12 like how much better is this than what we've been doing in the past you guys
9:18 and then we can see like uh i don't know pieces for the camera
9:23 that are over here i mean now i'm just playing but uh here
9:27 let's go ahead and go back to
9:31 back to the normal shot so right about there hopefully this is
9:35 right it might not be right so i really hope you guys have been enjoyed
9:40 the actual little help yeah see i didn't get it right i got my head cut off which
9:44 is not a good thing but it goes to show you guys like okay
9:48 camera is important like yes we did invest a lot on the camera but lights
9:52 are like equally important i mean people freaked out when i did the fs700
9:57 unboxing i'm like yeah we spent uh 8 500
10:00 on a camera but actually those lights
10:03 just for two of them was over three grand as well which makes a huge
10:06 difference but if you get lights that can be easily adjusted so these have
10:10 dimmers built in you can use four or two lights at a time whatever you want um
10:15 they're very portable they come with transportation you don't have to adjust
10:19 the color temperature really they're very much like like a natural studio
10:24 light whereas the ones we use for ncix tech tips are not as
10:30 they're like a very yellow light they're incandescent which is i guess nice
10:34 because you don't get any flicker no matter what you're doing but it's just
10:37 there's other challenges associated with it so uh so yeah that's that's that's cool
10:42 everything's everything's cool oh oh i have to show you guys this okay so sorry
10:46 i actually don't have twitch set up properly because the stream sort of
10:49 started at the last minute tonight and everything was a was a bit of a disaster
10:53 so bear with me we're gonna have a black screen for a second here
10:56 no we apparently aren't
11:51 due to my computer right now but like how freaking awesome
11:56 is this new camera you know i didn't even realize that um that the slow-mo
12:01 guys on youtube i thought they had like a 25 000 FPS camera or something like
12:06 that in order to capture some of the stuff that they're doing but what i've
12:10 realized now is that they've only got a 2 500 FPS
12:14 camera which means we can capture in broad daylight when we can keep the
12:18 color quality reasonably good we can capture up to 960 FPS at one quarter of
12:23 1080p so i'll let you guys process that for a minute we can do a two second
12:27 burst and someone can't hear the sound oh yeah there's no sound on that video guys um
12:32 okay so we can do a two second burst at 960 FPS we can do a four second burst at
12:37 480 FPS so that's what you guys saw in
12:40 that video there which is amazing i mean i know the color kind of sucks but we
12:43 were in the tech tip studio where we didn't have the best lighting it wasn't
12:47 outdoors so that means we can do kind of a fifth to a third sort of of what
12:52 they're able to do in terms of slow motion capture which is really exciting
12:55 because i love slo-mo slow-mo is so cool like okay we're just you know what we're
13:00 just gonna we're gonna go back we're gonna go back and uh
13:07 yes Linus slo-mo tips indeed
13:38 or something like that so it's no surprise that the table almost
13:42 buckled under the strain of supporting his enormous weight and that's possible
13:47 he's watching this and uh too bad slick you're fat
13:51 and there's there's nothing else really to say about it now hold on give me give
13:55 me a sec here guys
14:16 i've forgotten how to do this because i always had it sort of set up and then i
14:20 never really thought about it uh remove
14:24 okay so we'll switch to we'll switch to this one now and then i'm gonna just
14:28 remove this one and i'm going to zoom in on my twitter
14:33 and we're almost actually set up i'm so sorry that i'm not as prepared as as i
14:37 would have liked to be tonight but it was all about getting this new camera
14:41 going for me here guys so i i really really really wanted to do
14:45 that tonight and i honestly didn't get home until about
14:49 7 30 so i basically said hi to the baby
14:53 and then uh hi to my wife
14:57 and um then i came down here and i got
15:01 everything set up i actually have not managed to even to even eat yet but you
15:05 guys know that uh you guys know i love you and i'm trying
15:10 to bring you guys like the best and most awesome live streams that i possibly can
15:15 i have one challenge here which is that now that um
15:19 now that the way that i'm positioned is a little bit different i don't know
15:22 where i'm gonna you know what maybe i'll put twitter on this side tonight i'm
15:25 breaking the mold here things are getting crazy now
15:30 okay can you guys read that okay i'm just going to check the i'm going to
15:33 check the twitch chat really quick and see if you guys can
15:37 can actually see that all right thanks for the effort nice for okay yeah
15:42 yeah you guys saw okay so let's get to some twitter q a i'm just gonna slide my
15:46 chair over here which is super awkward the way that i'm doing it here and let's
15:51 get to it so 69 new interactions
15:56 you guys know what that's about all right like the quality okay oliver
16:00 has a question about video cards video cards are something i get a
16:05 ton of questions about and i would love to answer your question oliver should i
16:09 get a second 68.70 or a new 7970
16:13 best price to performance ratio okay it is always a challenge to calculate
16:18 the price to performance ratio of a crossfire setup because in one game
16:24 you might have a situation where the crossfire setup destroys an equivalently
16:28 priced single card and i think someone's texting me over
16:32 and over again oh slick says
16:37 let's see if it focuses on that come on camera you can do it
16:41 yeah whatever he says well you're small because apparently i he's he's sort of
16:45 upset about how i would call him fat but i guess he is watching tonight
16:50 right so you'll run into situations where in game x the crossfire setup
16:55 destroys the single card and in game y the crossfire setup doesn't work at all
17:00 and the single card setup is way better so
17:03 it basically comes down to the games you play and looking at it in terms of like
17:08 sort of a general general rule
17:11 general rule so general rule for me is unless you're talking two high-end cards
17:16 7 900 series 660 ti and up for the NVIDIA side get a
17:22 single card do not run crossfire with lower end cards because it's usually not
17:26 a great value because when it doesn't work it's not working and when it does
17:29 work well you could have gotten 90 of that performance with the single card
17:33 solution so uh yes get a 7970 sell your old 6870 and be
17:39 happy can't hear you whenever you switch from
17:42 the camera view to desktop my audio cuts out okay well i'll figure i'll figure
17:47 that out brian brian it's funny you should bring that
17:51 up i actually didn't troll elric with the ivy bridge thing he he released a
17:55 video where he received from Linus tech tips in the mail this box that was
18:00 labeled iv bridge and this was prior to the embargo and then inside um
18:06 there was like a little model bridge covered with ivy and then he was like ah
18:10 Linus told me i actually had no involvement in that i mean i don't mind
18:14 i don't care it doesn't it doesn't matter to me like it's i thought it was
18:17 pretty funny but i actually had zero involvement with it so
18:22 um it was just it was kind of confusing because i had people congratulating me
18:26 on my awesome prank before i actually
18:29 managed to find out what i had what i had pranked so
18:34 um so yeah i don't know it was confusing
18:38 it's confusing good morning it's seven in the morning
18:41 here greetings from lithuania greetings back lithuania i am thrilled that you
18:48 that you managed to tune in here joel says the slow-mo guys use a 10 000 FPS
18:53 phantom flex okay it's possible i was looking at one of their older videos i
18:57 was looking at the stomach punch one where they say it was captured at
19:01 2500 FPS maybe it's possible that their
19:04 camera goes higher than that but they capture it at that
19:08 frame rate for better quality or whatever else the case may be either way
19:11 i know it's a very very expensive camera but either way i'm excited about what we
19:15 can do with the fs700 uh because i'm i'm
19:18 pretty impressed with slick's impact on the table there and uh and how how good
19:22 that looked um someone wanted me to call out that slick is really sexy so for the
19:28 sake of slick and his largeness uh apparently one of our viewers also
19:32 thinks he's sexy so good job slick
19:37 all right jose perez jose perez hd capture card or
19:43 raid zero ssds using fraps for recording
19:46 and editing gameplay and short films now
19:50 it depends what you mean by short films because if short films you probably you
19:54 probably mean like gary's mod short films okay so let's assume you're
19:59 talking gameplay capture this is a cool product the one that i have behind me
20:03 here i'm just going to run it throughout the package this is a very cool product
20:07 for a couple of reasons so number one is that because of the fact that it's
20:12 doing h.264 encoding on the fly
20:16 you have much smaller file sizes okay so smaller file sizes are beneficial
20:20 because with a small smaller file size you don't need like a dual SSD raid 0 in
20:26 order to actually capture 1080p footage okay the other cool thing about the on
20:30 the fly encoding is that you can play at 1080p and then you can actually stream
20:35 like what you what you actually capture or stream can be at 720p because
20:40 it's doing that conversion in real time so that's really cool
20:44 however as with any capture card my experience
20:48 with this one has been fraught with
20:51 with difficulties and it hasn't been the easiest experience in the world to
20:56 figure out how to get it going properly so
21:00 the answer is yeah i don't know
21:04 fraps is a great solution in that it's flexible you can easily move it around
21:07 from machine to machine it doesn't require any kind of dedicated hardware the software is very mature it's very
21:12 awesome but the challenge is is um is again you need
21:18 that beefy pc also it's very CPU intensive right benefit number three of
21:23 using something like that avermedia live game live gamer i think is the one yeah
21:26 live gamer hd capture card is that it's not going to affect your game
21:30 performance so you can run your pc at exactly the same performance as if you
21:36 weren't recording but you are recording it offloads everything so that's really
21:40 cool as well so if you're techy enough if you think you
21:44 can handle it get the live gamer hd be done with it because you're going to be
21:48 able to run at a higher FPS you're going to have to not have to worry about a
21:51 really high-end storage system and yeah i think that's going to be a better
21:55 solution for you however it's a 200 investment oh yeah fraps is free but
21:58 then again buying two ssds for fraps is another 200 investment by the time you
22:02 have any decent capacity ssds logan asks Linus i was designing a
22:08 computer and i wondered what is the difference between a 3770k
22:12 a 3770 and a 3770s if i recall correctly
22:16 and guys please correct me please correct me if i'm wrong the 3770s
22:21 should be a low power variant the 3770
22:25 is a slightly overclockable 3770 in that
22:28 you can go i think it's a few steps above the maximum turbo multiplier you
22:32 can still get pretty decent clock speeds out of it i've got a 3770 that i was
22:35 playing around with and that's just kind of like oh okay well you could drain the qpi up to kind of 105 ish and then that
22:41 that gives you some additional couple hundred megahertz and then plus you can
22:44 turn the multipliers up pretty high i mean by the time
22:49 you by the time you sort of max out how high you can turn it up you're getting
22:53 to the point where you're starting to have to feed it more voltage than you'd probably like anyway so 3770 is not a
22:58 bad solution but the k will go a little bit further all right guys
23:02 something i wanted to clarify i made a mistake on the live stream last week
23:06 Intel's haswell cpus are coming for lga
23:10 1150 not 1155 so i get a lot of
23:14 questions about socket 2011 versus socket 1155 so the premium enthusiast
23:19 socket versus the mainstream socket for Intel and remember there's a third
23:23 socket on the well okay 2011 is also a
23:26 server socket but completely different platform in terms of the motherboards
23:30 and the cpus for the server side so we're talking
23:33 consumer and workstation so 2011 advantages
23:37 more than four cores and that doesn't mean just six cores we've got six cores
23:41 and eight cores now but Intel has already said that when iv
23:45 bridge e comes we're going to have 10 to 12 cores in a single socket high
23:50 performance ivy bridge quarters which is like getting my geek on as far as
23:56 2011 goes Intel has also come out and said lga 1155 is never getting more than
24:02 four cores now i don't know how many cores lg 1150 is going to get
24:06 but i'm falling asleep take off your shirt
24:09 all right all right well someone asked for it so
24:13 no i'm not really going to do that um lg so lga 1150 i don't know how many
24:18 cores it's going to get it will get the haswell architecture 1155 is a dead end
24:22 now you will never get anything faster than an iv bridge CPU with four cores
24:27 and hyper threading so which one should you get okay so 2011
24:31 you got more memory capacity you got more memory bandwidth you have more PCIe
24:35 lanes although i think i've covered in depth enough times that more PCIe lanes
24:39 actually doesn't make much difference to gaming performance especially with a two-way card configuration and then on
24:44 lg 1155 you've got this dead end platform but the performance is actually
24:49 in gaming better than 2011 because 2011
24:52 is still running the sandy bridge architecture and we're now on ivy bridge
24:56 on lg 1155 so if you're not planning to
24:59 upgrade your CPU and let's face it guys okay okay okay we're gonna do a quick
25:03 pull pull here so you can respond in twitch you can respond in twitter i'm
25:08 gonna go ahead i'm gonna give you guys sort of like 30 seconds to reply to this
25:12 poll have you ever
25:16 after a year with a computer whether it's a laptop whether it's a desktop
25:22 bought a new CPU based on a new architecture and then dropped it in as a
25:26 replacement to your existing one and in fact i don't want you guys to say how if
25:30 you ever i want you to say how many times you've done it if you've never
25:33 done it just type zero or or a zero and if you've ever done it
25:38 then then type how many times you've actually done it because i think i think
25:42 i did it once i think one time i went on socket
25:48 754 i went from a
25:51 3000 plus to a 3500 plus because i got
25:55 like a fantastic deal or something stupid like that i think that's the only
25:59 time i ever did it and the results are piling in i'm going to go ahead and move
26:04 twitch over here so you guys can kind of see it and then we'll do a twitter
26:07 twitter result later so does it matter
26:11 that lga 1155 doesn't have an upgrade platform i don't think so because you
26:16 can always sell your 1155 kit so your
26:19 motherboard your CPU it'll still perform pretty good like we're seeing pretty
26:23 small generational performance improvements uh yeah so lots of zeros ones twos lots
26:28 of zeros um you see you can always sell it and then buy a new one and you'll
26:32 probably take a 50 to 100 hit which is pretty close to the 50 hit that
26:38 you'd take by upgrading your existing 2011 CPU or even
26:42 100 hit or whatever you take like that like the loss you take selling and
26:46 re-buying hardware i really don't think is that different
26:50 however you go about it so i'm not really sold on sockets and platforms as
26:56 upgrade potential i mean AMD's done a good job of it so am3
27:01 is cool because you can install an 1100 t
27:05 fx 8150 and an fx8350
27:08 in the same board which is that's pretty cool because that's
27:12 three generational changes so they went from this socket having nothing higher
27:17 end than a six core to all of a sudden having an acorn then an eight core with a new architecture
27:22 so um
27:26 so yeah i mean that's cool but i think most people just haven't really haven't
27:31 really sort of done that so let's have a look at what the twitter what the twitter responses were
27:35 i've done it one inch two okay i have no idea what
27:39 that means never always upgrade to a new architecture a whole new platform
27:42 because here's another thing to consider is when the new CPU comes out often the
27:47 aging platform that is compatible with it isn't really a perfect choice
27:51 because okay let's look at let's look at ivybridge for example okay so z68
27:56 motherboards have support for ivybridge cpus mostly i found one that doesn't and
28:00 i'm like super mad about it because i have one of these boards and i'm like
28:03 what do you mean you didn't upgrade it for ivy but anyway sorry i'm aside but
28:07 um they're compatible but you don't get the benefit of if i
28:12 recall correctly virtue mvp which i'm not entirely sold on anyway but whatever
28:16 okay so you don't get the benefit you don't get the benefit of um pci express
28:22 3.0 which again i don't i'm not sure if i really care that much about anyway
28:26 but the point is if you want to get the most out of that new CPU you bought you're
28:31 probably better off just buying a new motherboard to go with
28:35 it anyway because you're going to want by that time you're going to want your
28:38 dual Thunderbolt output and you're going to want your all usb 3
28:43 implementation instead of having usb 2 mixed in there there's going to be some
28:47 kind of other cool crazy thing that is going to be good like the new
28:50 motherboards are going to have better onboard sound better like who knows
28:54 maybe 10 gigabit lan by the time you know we're two years down the road and
28:57 it's time to upgrade from an ivy bridge uh from an ivy bridge platform so so
29:02 that's where we're at with all of this uh right so let's let's you know let's
29:06 just go through and do some sort of shout outs for people here am i excited
29:10 about the upcoming fx 8350 i'm always excited about new cpus and video cards
29:14 cpus video cards and ssds those are my favorite things to like get excited
29:18 about zero zero yes once says matthew zero
29:24 zero zero only once one
29:28 how are you doing tonight my question should i get rid of my
29:31 dedicated physx card yes sell your 570
29:34 your 660 ti can handle the physx on its own anders
29:38 i went to the elementary school with a guy named anders anders um
29:43 who's his last name i don't remember it doesn't really matter
29:47 you said that you could film hurt some refresh rates of monitors with the new camp i think that'd be an awesome idea
29:51 thank you alexander we are not planning to film oh yeah okay so i want to talk a
29:56 little bit about one of the plans i have for this new camera that is capable of
30:00 filming at 960 FPS what i want to do
30:03 is i want to take this two displays a crt and an lcd and
30:09 then i want to clone the display out from a gaming pc
30:14 and then we put a microphone right next to the mouse so we got our mouse here we
30:18 put a microphone right next to it and then what we do is we
30:22 hit the mouse with a hard object so that we can use the sound recording as an
30:28 indicator of when we sent the signal to
30:31 the lcds and it won't be exact come on guys but we can then use the crt
30:36 to see the instant response because crts don't have input lag then we can see the
30:41 lcd to see how many more frames because we can throw it in a video editor and
30:46 actually measure frame by frame how many more frames it takes for the lcd to
30:50 react then we can go multiply how many frames
30:55 it is by however many whatever we'll do the math it's i can't do it in my head
30:59 right now but i can do it on paper so we'll go okay so if it was five frames
31:03 and it's 960 frames per second then we
31:06 can go okay so it's five nine hundred and sixtieths of a second of input lag
31:10 compared to crt which is really really cool really exciting so we'll be able to
31:13 tell you guys definitively if an lcd is
31:17 awesome for gaming it has input lag or if it doesn't have input lag and whoever
31:21 thinks i'm streaming with a webcam you weren't on time tonight mind you i
31:25 wasn't on time tonight but uh yes it is
31:28 an 8 500 camera it is not a webcam
31:32 tonight with an all-new audio set up and everything so
31:37 madness says stupid idea Linus well too bad we're going to try it and we're
31:40 going to see if it works if it does then the joke's on you and now he says joke
31:45 okay so let's read some more twitter here guys greetings from egypt it's 6 30
31:49 a.m you know what this this is a cookie jar and
31:54 this is me taking out a cookie or well actually it's one of those sweet and
31:58 sour sauce containers from microsoft but whatever you get an internet cookie for
32:03 tuning in at because you are
32:08 amazing 6 30 in the morning you're amazing okay
32:13 i'm doing some upgrades early next year should i get a second 7970 or upsell my
32:17 current one to upgrade to an 8970 if it's out by then i can't speculate on
32:21 upcoming products so i don't know how an 8970 is going to perform i don't know
32:26 how much it's going to cost so i can't advise you on that if you're not happy
32:30 with your 7970 now maybe try another one if you are happy with it then hold off i
32:35 mean that's all i can really say when people ask me is it time to upgrade and
32:38 i just say look are you happy with your system are you not happy with your system
32:43 oh heavy heavy heavy okay heavy we have a lecture to give you
32:47 heavy hdx says i have a core 2 quad and
32:50 4 gigs of ddr2 what do you think about buying a ddr3 socket 775 board and
32:55 putting 8 gigs of RAM in it heavy
32:58 lga 775 processors were not even remotely optimized for ddr3 in fact
33:04 since lga 775 we haven't seen a
33:07 significant performance increase on the Intel side of things
33:11 from increasing RAM speed or increasing RAM bandwidth even lga 1366 and 2011
33:18 have almost no benefit in many applications in real world
33:23 applications from going from dual channel memory you can install dual
33:26 channel memory to triple to quadruple when we went from ddr2 to ddr3 we also
33:32 added an integrated memory i mean even even the lg 775 processors they saw
33:36 almost zero performance impact going from ddr2 to ddr3 remember ddr3 even
33:41 more dramatically than what ddr2 did added a phenomenal amount of latency to
33:46 the memory interface yes it's more bandwidth but the latency is higher so
33:51 it's almost a trade-off do not do it unless it's like super cheap unless
33:55 someone like like gave you a ddr3 board
33:58 i mean ddr3 is cheap so the advantage is if you could find a ddr3 board for like
34:04 50 bucks then the difference in price between buying four more gigs of ddr2
34:08 versus eight gigs of ddr3 and i don't know you do the math but that might be a
34:12 way to uh that might be a way to sort of justify it but you're not going to see a
34:16 performance increase unless you need more RAM i have people commenting on my
34:19 shirt this is like my favorite shirt ever i actually have two of them so i
34:22 got this at a badminton tournament so it doesn't say every day i'm shuffling it
34:26 says every day i'm shuttling and see he has badminton birdies for feet and then
34:31 he has a badminton racket for his uh for his hand there so every day i'm
34:35 shuttling and i actually have two of them and i i love this shirt and i am not
34:40 taking it off again because i i think you guys saw enough of my nipples
34:45 earlier in this live stream
34:48 nathan asks which would you pick the new samsung 9 series 27 inch pls or the new
34:54 ASUS 27 inch pls you know what i don't have experience with the new samsung 27
34:58 inch or do i yes i do that's the one with the full
35:03 glass front i just wish it was touch screen
35:06 you know what for the difference in price i'm gonna go with the ASUS that's
35:10 the p uh pbs 2 7 something q or something like
35:16 that it's amazing i love that monitor and
35:20 because it doesn't have a glossy screen it has a matte screen pls panel
35:24 very little input leg motion blur i couldn't feel it which is sort of the
35:29 only subjective way i have of measuring it now i
35:33 love that ASUS monitor it's outstanding so go with the ASUS one it's great
35:38 please Linus d x t o r y d x tree is way
35:42 better than fraps the difference from recording is like 1fps okay i haven't validated this i don't know but victor
35:46 says it so there you go hi again would you recommend the Corsair
35:51 sp 2500 for music and gaming yes i am using Corsair sp 2500s i actually had an
35:56 onkyo receiver and then i had a couple of very premium cap speakers that i was
36:01 using for my audio setup on my gaming machine before
36:05 and uh and i was so impressed with the corsairs that i actually didn't really
36:10 notice that much of a difference when i moved my onkyo setup downstairs to where
36:14 my tv is and i took the calves and then i and i used the corsairs on my on my
36:18 main machine so it's awesome i'm super impressed with the
36:22 2500s they actually like i i wish more people bought them because as you guys
36:26 know i'm i'm not like a complete audio nerd i'm not into like changing the you
36:31 know the op amps on my sound cards and i don't i don't get into like the 500
36:36 headphones and i have like six pairs of them depending on what kind of music i'm
36:40 listening to i'm not that sophisticated but i do believe
36:43 in reasonable quality audio and on-board sucks and
36:48 99 of pc speaker sucks you know if anyone here who ever heard monsoon
36:54 mm-2000s like raise your hand i bought
36:58 the last set of mm-2000s these were
37:02 gorgeous flat panel speakers they were about this thin it was a 4.1 setup and i
37:07 returned them to the store for logitech z680s
37:13 and it was like the saddest thing ever so get this get this i returned them to
37:16 the store they were super reluctant about it because they were the last ones they had yeah bptes says i have mm-2000s
37:24 you have them from 1999 they're amazing yes they are okay so i returned them to
37:29 the store and i bought z680s i regretted it so much they were so boomy the base
37:34 was so ugly the flat panel sounds so good and i uh
37:40 i tried to return the z680s i bought them because they were digital and they
37:44 were 5.1 and i was fine
37:47 i bought into the hype you guys i bought into the hype everyone was a noob at
37:50 some point i was a nude back then and when i went back to the store that i
37:54 bought the monsoons at london drugs actually i went back there
37:58 they were like oh we don't i tried to buy them again i wanted to buy them back
38:01 because what bothered me about them is they had a bit of a hiss from them and
38:04 they were 4.1 anyway they had thrown them away because
38:09 monsoon had gone out of business i had no way to obtain these speakers ever
38:13 again and they had thrown them in a dumpster after i returned them because
38:18 of like they just didn't have anything to
38:22 do with them and i was like really
38:25 so then i was stuck with the z680s until then i ended up blowing just a ton of
38:30 money on my clips promedia ultra 5.1 those were
38:34 awesome speakers they were the best pc
38:38 speakers and i'd say that without really this is not open for debate not
38:44 open for debate the clips for media ultra 5.1 were the best speakers mine
38:47 did not have the subwoofer issue so um mine ran 24 7 for three plus years
38:53 and i got a lot of use out of them and uh
38:57 i i actually just so that i would know so that i would know for sure i actually
39:01 bought some creative gigawatts s 700s
39:05 and i i auditioned them side by side because i wanted to know i had the best
39:09 possible experience and you know what the gigawatts satellites were actually
39:12 outstanding and maybe a little better than the eclipses but the clip sub was
39:17 just for 600 bucks it was untouchable
39:20 this kit was untouchable and then it wasn't until i i had to get rid of my
39:25 klipsch's long story but then i upgraded to my omkios and now now i'm back to the
39:30 uh the corsairs the corsairs are great and i became more of a headphone guy
39:33 because i moved in with this is kind of embarrassing but i lived with my wife's
39:38 parents for like three years so i moved into
39:41 their house which meant i couldn't crank my clipses or anything that i had set up
39:46 so i ended up becoming a headphone guy and then i got my uh my sennheiser
39:50 hd555s and then i moved on to my current
39:53 favorite headphone set um and again like
39:57 i said i don't really get into the 500 stuff but these are the steelseries 7hs
40:01 these are hands down like i would say
40:04 five to ten times better in terms of audio quality than any
40:08 gaming headset i'm going to let that sink in for a
40:12 moment i'm going to have people saying
40:15 what about the 7.1 psychos or 5.1 or
40:19 whatever they are you know what surround headphones are not not a good experience
40:22 because you're better off with bigger drivers than lots of little tinny ones
40:26 okay so forget about your surround headphones um
40:29 and why this what about the carcarius or the
40:34 this or that or the siberia v2 where do
40:37 people keep hearing that siberia v2s are
40:40 good headphones where is this misinformation coming from
40:43 okay we're going back to twitter here i want you guys to explain to me if you
40:48 have heard that siberia v2s are good headphones where you heard that from
40:55 great headset comfortable mike's great retractable mic is a great feature they
40:59 look fantastic but
41:03 the sound quality is terrible it's worth the extra i think it's only an extra 20
41:07 30 bucks to get the seven inches they're a little heavier they're not as
41:11 comfortable they don't have those big ear pieces they have that fragile micro
41:15 usb thing going on here but if you're careful with it mine are fine i've been using them for over two years now
41:20 but the sound quality is night and day
41:24 it is so much better so we're going we're going to the we're going to the
41:27 twitter boards oh come on guys this isn't even related
41:32 to what i asked at minus tech on twitter
41:35 you guys aren't even asking answering my questions okay we're going to go back to
41:39 the siberias we're going to go back to siberia later so 7h are awesome and then
41:42 the other great solution is getting something like a sennheiser five five fives or and people keep telling me that
41:48 um uh there's there's a couple of other
41:51 brands i can't remember the life of me right now but uh no pc350 do not like pc350 i'm
41:58 sorry my wife loves the pc350s i am not sold on pc 350 at all i haven't heard
42:03 the 360s apparently they're a lot better but um
42:07 oh human plow is leaving bye i will
42:10 finish this on youtube i'm actually very sorry to hear that i love it when you
42:14 guys tune in live because it's it's much more interactive and it's it like pops
42:18 up my ego that you guys that you guys tune in so uh
42:25 yeah oh yeah audio technica thank you that's the brand that people keep
42:28 telling me i have no experience with them though so i don't really know what to tell you guys but yeah right the
42:32 other solution is getting a pair of headphones and then getting like a desktop microphone or like a clip-on
42:38 microphone that you can put on your shirt or whatever else so that's uh that's all good
42:42 all right so what about astros okay
42:45 they're good for reasons other than sound avery you're correct they are comfortable the mic is great and they're
42:51 a good value they're very light but i'm all about sound quality
42:55 personally
42:58 you know what i'm not sold on the g600 i haven't played it around with it enough
43:01 but it feels a little laggy on my 30 inch really the test of a mouse for me
43:06 and this could be just the weirdest thing ever
43:09 but i find the higher resolution panel i'm using it on the more noticeable any
43:15 kind of legginess or inaccuracy is and i
43:19 love the g9x i am like a logitech guy
43:22 when it comes to peripherals here's my g15 gen 1 gen 1 you guys g15 gen 1 was a
43:30 beast keyboard i bought three because i never wanted to run out of gen 1 g15s i
43:35 still use them for like secondary applications and all that but i'm not
43:39 that sold on the g600 yet give me more time okay give me more time and i will
43:43 play around with it some more and i will come back with some kind of commentary
43:46 on it okay guys uh can you give me any stream okay stream
43:51 tips on this build you know what brendan i'm sorry i can't look at builds right
43:54 now just because everyone has to watch
43:57 john from twitch praised the siberia v2s i hope john's tuned in tonight john
44:01 you're wrong and siberia v2s and psychos are terrible
44:05 so no friend who owned a pair hated the sound
44:09 quality yeah i have a question are the fans on the 650d good or should i replace them
44:14 no they're not good they're just stock case fans um i love Noctua fans Corsair
44:18 even has better higher end fans these days so yes there's lots of better
44:23 solutions out there they're horrible i use them now the mic
44:27 sucks you know what there's probably something wrong with your sound setup other than that because the siberia v2s
44:31 do have a good mic i i guarantee it if you have a good sound
44:35 card you have to get oh ask doctor stupid that there's
44:39 there's some there's some sort of something fitting for you guys ask dr
44:43 stupid says something about beats being the best headphones but he's he's just
44:47 trolling whoever said that x-rayed says can you make a motorcycle
44:50 video i made a motorcycle video once i did an unboxing of my motorcycle
44:55 so uh so that was that was a long time ago that was back when i got it
44:59 wow we've got quite a turnout tonight in spite of the errors earlier on in the
45:03 stream we've got 1700 people watching so let's take a minute here guys and just
45:07 thank you so much for tuning in to the stream this is this is this is
45:11 outstanding you guys are you guys are actually just the best
45:15 um and and you know what else i noticed is
45:19 ever since i uploaded that you know thank you for 200 000 subscribers my
45:22 subscriber rate has actually gone like this so you guys are i don't know what
45:26 you guys are doing but you're spreading the word and you're like you know
45:30 bringing people into the channel so yep
45:34 it's awesome everything is awesome so you guys you guys are amazing i know i'm
45:37 behind on my tweets and i'm sorry but you know actually there's been a lot of
45:41 stuff going on lately and things are things are crazy
45:45 jose says does ncix sell that capture card yes ncix does sell that capture
45:50 card it's the gamer game live gamer hd
45:54 um foxington fox what is my server hardware specs i've done videos about that so if
45:58 you search for a minus personal server you should be able to come up with some
46:03 of the videos i've done while um about my server
46:10 stevie not being able to sleep and catching the live stream thank you for tuning in
46:15 stevie that is amazing 6 a.m and he's still awake watching the
46:19 livestream like i said i have i have like the best followers you guys are
46:23 amazing because i know i know that actually for probably here we're gonna
46:29 we're gonna lose twitter for a second here i know that for probably 90 percent
46:33 of you guys this time slot is terrible but there's
46:37 really nothing i can do about it my wife wants me on the weekends which i
46:40 understand and then i work nine to five well
46:44 more like you know sort of 9 30 10 to like seven or eight which means i don't
46:48 get home until this um however sometime in the future i will
46:53 find a way to switch to like an afternoon my time because late night my
46:59 time means that on the east coast of north america you guys are screwed
47:03 because by the time i finish my live stream it's like 1 30. sorry guys europe
47:08 you guys are screwed because you're just waking up and you don't want to get up
47:11 at six i mean you know all you guys who are tuned in you guys are awesome but i
47:15 know you don't want to get up at six to tune into the livestream the only ones
47:19 who it works for again yeah tom tomcam here
47:23 oh sorry wrong one tom cam here in the twitch chat says yeah well it's 358 in
47:27 melbourne yeah i was just gonna say the one demographic that this works for is
47:32 the viewers in australia and then i don't think i have a ton of uh viewers
47:36 in asia but uh but yeah the viewers in australia this works for them but
47:41 everyone else pretty much gets the shaft on this starting time so at some point
47:45 i'll move it and uh we'll figure out a way to make that work for you for
47:48 everyone all right
47:54 says i don't know if i did that right 14 milliseconds for an ips monitor is good
47:58 enough for gaming or will i have very hard ghosting you
48:02 know what that spec is probably meaningless best thing is find other
48:05 people who have that exact monitor ask them what they think
48:09 find out if it's going good for them because the spec is measured a lot of
48:13 different ways totally meaningless so that's the only way to know for sure
48:18 adam lee says i have two 550 ti's only difference is vram one and two gig
48:22 there's no option for sli like i said um
48:26 on i think uh one of my previous videos you need matching cards for sli that
48:30 means the same GPU and although in theory i've seen evidence from like i've
48:35 seen NVIDIA posts at some point this was years ago though that you can sli
48:40 mismatched memory cards the last time i tried it was with an 8800 gts 320 and an
48:45 8800 gts 640 these were identical cards saved for
48:50 the amount of RAM and i wasn't able to enable sli so my personal experience is
48:54 that it doesn't work jonathan you better not be doing that
49:00 that is not cool man not cool man
49:04 hey amentha says hey from edmonton hey from edmonton too i guess uh i guess
49:09 it's good to be in edmonton this year because we uh the vancouver the
49:13 vancouver canucks don't have to kick the oilers butt so hard and hockey for the
49:16 entire season and i just lost a viewer from edmonton
49:22 but seriously guys i mean i don't know how many canadians there are here but
49:25 this is the third work stoppage that we've had in the nhl
49:30 the third work stoppage in the nhl since gary bettman has been commissioner and i
49:34 personally am like super steemed up about this i know you guys did not tune
49:39 in for sports talk radio that is not what you're into but come on okay so a
49:43 few different things if you guys aren't in canada or you don't care and you're
49:47 not familiar with the lockout okay so basically
49:51 there's a collective bargaining agreement back in 2004 that everyone
49:55 signed okay the league signed the player signed
49:59 okay now it's renegotiation time and the
50:02 league that the players made a lot of concessions last time the league is
50:05 basically going okay whatever share of the profits you guys were getting before
50:10 we're cutting that i think it's about by 20 so it's a huge cut from the players
50:15 because we have to control the expenditures and the cost the league is making more money than they ever have
50:20 before they're doing great as a whole yes some teams aren't doing well but you
50:24 know what maybe it's time to man up be like the nfl and implement revenue
50:28 sharing from the premium teams that are doing really well to the dog teams that
50:32 aren't doing really well okay so maybe that's the solution league's doing great
50:35 as a whole so this time around they're saying okay yeah well no no we can't afford to pay
50:40 you this much now here's the kicker here's what kills me about this whole thing
50:43 in the time between the end of last season and the lockout commencing we had
50:49 huge huge mega contracts being signed with
50:53 players we're talking like huge long-term contracts worth 20 30 50
50:57 million dollars can't remember the details i just remember that i was super
51:00 mad about it because here are the owners and the league saying oh we have to
51:05 control player salary so we have to cut down how much we can pay the players in
51:08 order to reach an agreement here and then here's the here's on the other hand
51:13 they're saying oh here's a whole bunch of money to aging players and
51:18 we so do you want to keep your payroll under control do you not want to keep
51:22 your payroll under control i don't know what the answer is but we're going back to tech because hockey's stupid and
51:28 there's no hockey and this year and that makes me very sad but it gives me more
51:33 time for benchmarking video cards so i guess it worked out for all of us
51:38 moving right along here so sorry for the hockey rant for those of you who aren't
51:41 interested in hockey Linus i see you have a sonar sense in
51:45 your rig and i'm planning to get one but why are you using the pc350 headset
51:48 because i hate it because i don't like it because the zonar sense is a great
51:52 sound card and the pc350 my wife is using because she has funny shaped ears
51:56 and it fits on her head or something so there you go
52:00 all right twitter questions heavyhd says i love when someone
52:03 responds to my tweets and live streams you're welcome i recently bought an agility for 128 gig
52:09 and i'm only getting around 250 megabyte reads and write that's probably about right actually agility for 128 gig
52:14 especially once you fill it up more than half is not that fast of a drive um the
52:18 the interlinks controller marvel controller that's powered by
52:22 interlink's firmware is um not as fast once the drive gets more
52:26 full as it is when the drive is empty something to be aware of uh jamie when
52:31 do you think Thunderbolt is going to be coming to the pc can you explain why
52:34 it's still absent on the pc jamie my main man
52:38 Thunderbolt is here
52:41 i have done like six videos about it check this out you can get a Thunderbolt
52:46 enabled motherboard from MSI for is this is this the cheap one yeah i
52:51 think this is the one for under 200 now Thunderbolt MSI motherboard under 200
52:56 it's so new there isn't a picture this is a brand new sku 77016 on ncix z77a
53:03 g45 Thunderbolt Thunderbolt is here and
53:06 Thunderbolt may actually end up coming in handy for me because i think in order
53:09 to capture the kind of um the kind of
53:12 1080p and 4k streams i'm going to want to do i'm going to need like multiple wd
53:18 dual Thunderbolt enclosures with velociraptors in them i'm going to need
53:21 to raid 0 a whole whack of them and
53:25 things are going to get crazy uh can you give a shout out to north van
53:30 i can shout out to north end oh you know what
53:33 i promised i promised someone who
53:37 actually requested and this doesn't happen that often but someone requested
53:41 that i autograph something for them and send it to them
53:46 and they're in like europe or something so i
53:49 was just like oh you know what i don't think it's realistic for me
53:54 to to autograph something and ship it there i mean you know it's really cool
53:58 that you asked and i'm super flattered and all of that but i promised that i would give a shout
54:03 out in this live stream
54:08 to my very special viewer
54:11 hold on where is it where is it
54:19 here we go michael
54:22 warhol he's from poland and i promised i would
54:28 give a big shout out to michael thank you for watching tech tips michael and
54:32 all of that good stuff and that goes along with my shout out to northvan
54:36 Linus i have 269 50 soon to be three oh please don't add a third one do you
54:40 think i should upgrade to dual 7970s yes two cards is always better than three in
54:44 much the same way that one card is usually better than two no pin do you get poison ivy Linus well
54:49 when i walk around and poison ivy yes i do
54:53 i have another question that wireless is that wireless headset good oh okay
54:57 Corsair 2000 wireless headset if you want a wireless headset actually it's
55:00 about as good as i could recommend it's a great value for the price the usb
55:04 sound card is probably better than your crappy on-board sound but not nearly as
55:07 good as a dedicated sound card but for the convenience of wireless not a bad
55:11 value at all what's a better case the 600t or the 650d i love the look of the
55:16 650d the 600t is probably a little bit cooler in terms of temperatures and
55:21 probably a little bit easier to build in but personally i'd go 650d because i'm
55:24 all about aesthetics sr2 versus srx which one to get don't get either of
55:29 them get a 2011 board like a proper single socket 2011 board or get an lga
55:34 1155 board the cpus for those sockets cannot be overclocked which means you
55:38 will get more performance unless you're doing like heavy workstation usage out
55:43 of a desktop board what power supply would you recommend for this
55:46 configuration right here i would recommend probably in the
55:50 neighborhood of a good quality 850-1000 watt power supply something like a high
55:54 current pro 1000 platinum or an xfx 1000
55:58 platinum basically you want efficiency you want about 850 to 1000 watts for a
56:03 configuration like that building a new pc single 680 or 2660
56:08 ti's an sli 2660 ti is an sli 660 ti is
56:12 so close to 670 and 680 in performance and so much less in price that it's
56:16 actually an outstanding value
56:19 just now you said about platform and socket what would you recommend for people who are building a performance pc
56:25 year end middle of next year no idea for middle of next year i can't remember
56:28 when haswell's coming out but year-end now build an lg 1155 system
56:34 peyton says give me my boyfriend back
56:37 that's a very strange thing to say
56:40 who is your boyfriend i'm really curious now
56:45 alex says what are your thoughts on how fraps compares to xsplit they're totally
56:48 different xsplit is for streaming xsplit is what i'm using to broadcast this live
56:53 video based on an HDMI input to my broadcasting pc to my viewers all around
56:58 the world fraps is for recording something to a hard drive and then doing
57:04 something with it later totally totally different
57:08 uh separate your audio stream from HDMI so we can still hear them when your video stream is hidden yes i can look
57:12 into doing that next week alternately what i can do is i can kind of cheat and
57:16 i can just throw the video in the background of the desktop capture
57:20 one so you can't see it but the audio will still be there so we'll figure out
57:23 something something will work don't worry guys um oh her boyfriend is
57:27 watching my live stream i understand now
57:31 uh what does overclocking rem do who's your favorite pony i had a pony growing
57:36 up his name was bobby he's probably dead now but
57:40 he he will always be my favorite bobby was a white pony and was awesome
57:45 oh stew wakowski Linus i'm still running
57:49 on my old socket 478 pentium 4. thoughts
57:52 on the AMD 3870k as an upgrade okay stu first things first don't get fm1 get an
57:58 fm2 board and CPU because you will have an upgrade path fm1 is a dead platform
58:03 and second of all an apu will be an excellent upgrade path for you if you're
58:07 planning on using the onboard graphics if you're not planning on using the onboard graphics an older phantom 2 or
58:14 a lower end fx chip is going to be an awesome option as well or even something
58:18 like a core i3 seth asks do you think resolutions past
58:22 2560 by 1600 will be available soon i sure hope so seth
58:26 i sure hope so because
58:29 i really really want higher resolution panels
58:33 and i mean the technology is there if they can do this kind of pixel density
58:39 then why can't they just do a bigger one i'll pay for it i mean an ipad screen
58:44 isn't even expensive so if we just kind of went okay so you know well 4x or 6x
58:49 the size and then the yields will go down by this much and
58:53 you know it'll cost a thousand dollars or 2 000 i actually don't care if you
58:57 can deliver me a 4k 30 inch monitor here
59:00 any manufacturer is watching this stream tonight if you guys can deliver me a 4k
59:04 30 inch monitor i will personally commit to spending 2 500 on one
59:09 because i want one so there bam
59:14 ah should i upgrade my two velocity raptors to two ssds
59:18 which SSD um lots of good choices right now samsung 830 is a great choice the
59:23 new 840 pro is coming that's an awesome choice
59:27 um vertex 4 is a great choice crucial m4 is
59:31 a great choice these are all great choices and you don't even need two ssds
59:36 to replace your two velociraptors because one velociraptor will destroy
59:40 your rather one one SSD will destroy
59:43 your two velociraptors you are going to wonder how you ever tolerated
59:48 velociraptors and you might not notice right away but
59:51 you'll notice when you go back and try to use velociraptors
59:56 i have problems with molex plugs to control my fans jared the problem is
59:59 that you're using molex plugs to control your fans you're going to want to get
60:02 like in-line 3-pin resistors or a fan
60:05 controller in order to control your fans gary says do you recommend the gtx 660
60:10 ti from MSI or the galaxy 3 gate i know that the MSI is triple overvolting
60:15 first of all if you watched last week's live stream you'll know that the triple
60:18 overvolting has gotten pretty complicated now
60:22 and then the other thing is whether you need three gigs or not really depends on
60:25 the resolution you're running three gigs is not going to be useful unless you're
60:28 running like 2560 by 1440 or you're running multiple 1080p panels
60:34 kyle have you seen the murderbox murder mod do you have any plans of making a
60:37 tgf7 like them no i'm more of a simple guy i'm just kind
60:41 of drumming holes in my tj07 and then i'm just gonna powder coat it and call
60:44 it a day i'm too cheap for that however i don't
60:47 know if you've seen the new mk3 that charles has uh has brought into
60:52 this world but it is amazing murderbox mk3 i think i think
60:58 that's what it's called here it is so this case
61:01 costs something ludicrous like i think
61:05 it's like well over a thousand dollars it's like 1500 or something like that
61:10 but it's just amazing modular drive structure assembly printed circuit board
61:14 for distributing power and data to all of your drives it's got like a really
61:19 unique top girl i've seen one of these in person i actually saw the prototype
61:24 one at ces last year it's got the serpentine thing going down the back
61:28 it's just oh it's awesome and who's asking if i'm using internet explorer
61:32 this is firefox get over yourself um
61:35 yeah it's it's awesome so basically it's a tj07 but modded at the factory level
61:42 by by charles the the murder guy so
61:45 so there you go
61:48 um so yeah i love it but there's no way i'm uh there's no way i'm gonna spend
61:53 the money i guess to to go for that but hey
61:56 yeah joel says it's okay to eat while you livestream you know what
62:00 you guys look think of it this way
62:03 i have almost 1800 people now tuning in
62:06 to watch me do something that hopefully is
62:10 entertaining i owe it to you guys to pay
62:13 attention so that you have my full and undivided attention
62:17 during that time okay so i'm not gonna do that you guys i'm
62:21 gonna take twitter questions for the rest of the night so if you guys aren't interested in twitter questions then
62:26 i guess you can tune out now but i hope i hope you guys are interested
62:30 jared usb headset better than on board yes
62:33 however solutions like this are awesome this is the zona u3 so this is just a
62:37 little usb sound card if you're using a laptop that you can't add a sound card
62:41 to or if you don't want to invest a ton of money into a proper sound card this
62:45 is a great solution it actually has an amped output um i mean not not i think
62:49 it's up to good to up to 150 ohm resistance for the uh
62:53 for the um headphones it has a great microphone in
62:57 very clean great solution um but yes the usb headset is better
63:01 alvin says what is good for editing video cards priority for the processor
63:04 first then the graphics card okay couple things if you're using adobe you want a
63:09 cuda capable graphics card diesel taught me this you must have cuda because it
63:13 does real time acceleration for all kinds of great stuff in adobe you don't
63:16 even need a workstation card so priority number one make sure you got a cuda card
63:20 priority number two well almost priority one slash two for both of these beast
63:25 CPU because video encoding video exporting from video editing
63:29 applications is still heavily CPU dependent you also need boatloads of RAM
63:34 at least 16 gigs of RAM in a 1080p
63:37 reasonably high-end editing machine where you're doing any kind of after effects
63:41 32 gigs even preferred but 16 gigs should be should be great um and then
63:45 finally if i was going to do a final upgrade i would go to a quadro card with
63:50 a um with a full high
63:53 whatever it is full spectrum whatever more color depth so quadro cards can
63:58 output deep color and then you can get monitors that have eight bit panels in
64:03 them so that you can actually see to a greater degree of accuracy what you're
64:06 working on so that's where i would get into a
64:10 more professional editing setup
64:14 i'm in ontario canada computers is beating ncx prices 80 of the time will
64:18 you guys price match absolutely ncix price matches every day all day all the
64:23 time walk in show them the price on the computer
64:26 done they'll price match it for you dragon says what do you think of the
64:29 flex store and five ssds they're outstanding again i'm sorry i missed
64:33 them i should have mentioned them great options plextor has done an amazing job
64:38 of optimizing their firmwares so i don't know if you guys know this but plex
64:41 store is a major manufacturer and they are
64:44 all about qc i mean even going back to optical drives plex store was all about
64:49 the best quality so their ssds are outstanding so there you go joe what are
64:54 the specs of your streaming pc oh funny you should ask okay it's got a 2500k
64:58 that i've overclocked just a little bit in a shuttle z68 it's got eight gigs of
65:02 RAM and it's got um two HDMI capture cards
65:06 i'm using onboard video because i want to at some point okay i'm really excited
65:10 about this so right now we're doing a single camera realistically for this live show once we
65:16 get you know a proper set now that we've got a camera i want two HDMI streams
65:20 coming in i want a dual camera setup so we have a lock shot just a single sort
65:24 of fixed camera angle there and then we can have like a floating camera man who
65:28 can we can have guests and they can come get different angles and they can come
65:32 look at close-ups of what i'm looking at and that's what i really want i want
65:35 more like a broadcast experience from the live streams here so that's why i
65:40 went with dual capture cards and a reasonably beefy pc but i still haven't
65:45 figured out how i'm going to get all of that data off of the computer i mean i
65:48 might end up with uh like an e SATA output to like a tower
65:53 for for one of the streams and then a usb 3 output to a tower for the other i
65:57 don't know how i'm going to do that we'll get to that we'll get to that what about the razer tmat the razer teammate
66:02 is a gaming headset i haven't heard it it might be great but i just sort of doubt it
66:06 david do you think there will be more multi-touch desktop monitors absolutely
66:10 i am super excited about desktop multi-touch monitors i did another
66:13 episode of ncis tech tips that will be coming out soon with the acer 10-point
66:17 multi-touch monitor just a guide on the gestures you can use in Windows 8. i am
66:22 just super excited about the whole touchscreen
66:25 experience nathaniel says i'm a toronto fan so it
66:29 doesn't really bother me uh oh i think he's talking about the hockey talk uh
66:34 but anyways do you have recommendations for routers um right now i'm using an ea
66:38 4500 with the non-cisco cloud firmware super happy with it
66:42 um although wd's new mynet routers look
66:46 very exciting especially the 900 series with the on the fly adaptive um quality
66:53 quality of service i haven't actually tried it yet though so
66:57 give me a little while and i will try it out and i'm uh yeah i'm super super
67:01 excited to try that out um so those are the two that i would sort of look at you
67:06 can't go wrong with linksys it's just yeah you can't go wrong connor
67:10 says when do you think they'll make OLED monitors connor not soon enough
67:14 i want my 4k 30 inch OLED monitor and
67:18 i'm super excited i'm just i'm so sad
67:21 that canon scd never made it i mean this
67:24 was exciting stuff canon was developing this in collaboration with someone it
67:29 was supposed to bring yes the scd's dead thanks a lot for that surface or
67:34 something whatever they had prototypes it was going to be as thin as lcd at the
67:38 time it was going to have the response times of crt the contrast ratios the
67:43 colors of crt and it was like yeah matrix of tiny
67:46 cathode ray tubes it was too expensive it never happened and i'm just
67:52 oh i read about that and i was so excited i wanted scd so bad and i'm yeah
67:56 OLED is is what i'll settle for
68:00 i have two 560 ti and two slides should i upgrade to a single 60 you know you
68:04 will have a better gaming experience on the single 680
68:07 um however i'd probably go for a slightly better value go with the 670
68:10 you'll still get a great experience uh gary i have no experience with the
68:14 360s unfortunately i've heard they're way better all right matthew let's check out your
68:19 tnj07 i don't usually indulge wow that looks really nice
68:23 this is a great build when i have a forum we're gonna have to have like a
68:27 poster build section so you guys can all just check out the they have like
68:31 fantastic and awesome builds that uh that you all do so we're gonna
68:35 let's look at this a little bit bigger here really that's facebook's idea of oh
68:39 there we go okay well i'm seeing it in full screen but you guys are probably getting it cut off that is outstanding
68:44 great cable sleeving two gtx 680s lj 1155 platform which is
68:50 uh okay yeah allow full screen okay let's close that lj 1155 platform which
68:54 is smart um not what i ended up going with for my
68:59 sort of enthusiast class machine but it's smart you had all the performance
69:04 and that yeah that looks outstanding great build there's no way i'm putting
69:07 that much work into mine i love the uh i i love the clean mid plate but i'm just
69:12 kind of looking at it going like ah i can get one cut i can get it powder
69:16 coated after i drill some holes and stuff but i'm just
69:19 i upgrade my rig so often and i'm always tinkering around with it but it's
69:22 actually more work than it's worth for me to have tubes like routed through
69:26 holes and stuff so i'm just going to leave the stock midplate
69:29 ash wants to know is it even possible to have a resolution of 2560 by 1600 that
69:34 runs on 120 hertz the problem right now is dvi dvi can't carry any more
69:38 than uh 10 1920 by 1200 120 hertz or
69:43 2560 by 1660hz so displayport will have
69:47 a way for us to uh to to make things more better
69:52 foxington fox do you think that dual socket is worth it for rendering video
69:55 etc um it can be but you've got to be working on really high-end stuff in
69:59 order for that to start to make a difference what do you think about the 558s haven't
70:03 tried them unfortunately sorry man best gaming headset price no object 7h
70:08 same answer as before what do you think about two caviar black
70:13 hard drives in raid 0 not for holding vital info just for speed you're not
70:18 going to get a great speed experience out of it man i'm sorry SSD is the way to go for speed
70:23 people who think that hard drives are almost as fast as ssds because of the
70:27 sequential megabyte per second ratings of them are kidding themselves it's not
70:32 about that at all not about that at all
70:37 so yes it's all about it's all about random which SSD is way better for
70:42 are you really running an agp video card i'm sorry man i'm very sorry to hear
70:46 that winforce 3 or twin frozen five hard to
70:49 say um part of the problem with these brandings so direct cu winforx and twin
70:54 frozer is that a lot of the time it's actually a different cooler on every
70:57 given card different number of heat pipes different fans what do you want me
71:01 to say um it comes down to the individual cards
71:06 it was my favorite my little pony you know i was never actually into my little pony i know i mentioned it from time to
71:10 time but i'm just joking is a 600hz tv
71:13 good for gaming not that i will go over 140 a 600hz tv is not a 600hz display um
71:19 and it's probably fine for gaming because the 600hz tv is bound to be a
71:22 pretty high end one unless it's a plasma in which case yes plasmas are great for
71:25 gaming the only disadvantage of plasma these days is that
71:29 it's um it's not as good in a bright environment
71:33 so you have to have a darker room test tester says i'm interested in this
71:37 youtube thing and i'm thinking about starting a channel can you give me tips
71:40 for that minus youtube tips my tip would be that
71:45 um what do i say without sort of being
71:49 discouraging how do you people ask me this all the
71:53 time how do i do this youtube thing and i don't have a good answer so
71:58 priority number one is however much energy you think you're
72:02 projecting amp it up by five times because there's
72:05 all those jokes about how the camera adds 10 pounds or you know takes off two
72:10 inches or whatever the camera does the camera tones down your energy level to
72:15 about a quarter or a tenth of what you're
72:18 actually doing if i were to talk the way i actually talk to a person like the way i talk to
72:23 someone in real life this is what i'd sound like i'd be like okay yeah hey
72:26 how's it going and this is this is how i talk to people it's not very interesting
72:30 you you people who you know put on their headset
72:34 mic and they're like yeah so on i'm doing a live stream right now i'm
72:37 streaming my gaming you know i ran across the bridge and oh man there was
72:41 like a troll underneath and the problem with the way you talk to
72:45 talk to a person is that it assumes that they are making eye contact with you
72:50 that they are engaging in your facial expressions and your your gestures and
72:55 that they can see the context of everything around you and it keeps them
72:59 engaged okay they're also there in person they can smell you they can hear
73:03 you they can see you they can use their senses when you're on video
73:10 when you're on video they don't have the benefit of all of
73:13 that every gesture has to be way bigger that's why on a stage or on a movie the
73:18 actors wear all this makeup like have you ever gone to a play and seen any of
73:22 the actors after the performance and when you see them up close they've got
73:26 like this mood caked onto their faces and their eyes are painted up like you
73:29 wouldn't believe because when you're further away when you don't have that
73:32 context you have to emphasize things so much
73:37 more for people to get the to get the point to get engaged to be excited to be
73:41 to be amped up the same way that you are so that's tip number one and that is not
73:46 a grow up this is a fig tree it's a fig tree it doesn't even it
73:50 doesn't even look like a marijuana plant this is the leaf
73:54 what are you talking about geez kids today that's what i say um
73:59 okay tip number two is you're not going to make it alone
74:03 for every jenna marbles there are
74:07 i mean at this point there's so many youtube users there's probably like for every jenna marbles there's probably a
74:12 million people who are getting 10 to 15 views on every video that they put up
74:18 the way that i made it was with a partnership so i had a
74:23 retailer that i was partnered with that gave me access to the hardware gave me
74:28 access to the equipment i needed i don't know if i could have done this 100
74:32 percent on my own or at least i wouldn't have the momentum that i have
74:36 so that's another thing is figure out partnerships don't try to do it alone
74:41 don't try and be like the lone wolf and no i don't watch jenna marbles i can't
74:45 stand her videos um i made it about a third of the way
74:50 through through one not that long ago and i was just kind of like okay so she
74:54 swear she's kind of crude um
74:57 she's a lot more popular than i am so you know full points for that that's
75:01 cool but it just it just doesn't really do it for me um i don't know i just yeah it
75:07 just didn't really do it for me okay so anyway that's that's all the
75:10 tips i have for youtube for tonight try to say my name matthias brandolini
75:15 that's not eat that's not hard for mattias matthias brandolini
75:20 i actually went to i went to school with a girl last name brandolini what do i
75:24 think of the trenton x pro i don't think much of it i think that you should get
75:28 the thing about audio is you want to go with a company that understands audio someone like sennheiser okay shout out
75:32 to matthew from australia but that's it for the shout outs no more shout outs tonight thomas asks what monitor i'm
75:37 using right now this is a samsung sync master 215 tw
75:41 super old but my personal philosophy anything but tn
75:45 the input lag on this thing is terrible it's hardly even usable but i hate tm
75:49 monitors i won't use them unless they're 120 hertz and they're 3d ready in which
75:53 case you don't really have a choice because there's nothing else
75:56 thomas says just got this error Windows detector hard drive failure i don't have
76:00 enough storage to back up till tomorrow what to do now shut down thomas shut
76:05 down right now and hope that it still works oh i'm
76:08 sorry twitter's not up there you go guys i hope that it stays working long enough
76:13 for you to sort of do okay
76:16 with that joseph when using quiet fans on a triple
76:20 rad is it better for the radiator to be thinner thicker does it really matter
76:24 you want the lowest restriction possible if you're looking for a quiet setup so
76:28 that means you either want a thick rad with very very loose fin spacing or you
76:32 want a thin rad so that uh you'll still be able to get air to move through the
76:36 radiator it's just not gonna get like stopped out right
76:40 okay please read which is your favorite 680 brand what do i think about evga gtx
76:45 680s a 680 is kind of a 680 for me until
76:48 they put on a custom cooler or throw some additional warranty support
76:52 at it or design a custom pcb i'm pretty
76:55 big into MSI's lightning carts love their lightning cards though it's hard
76:59 to go wrong with evga especially on their very high end cards where they still have lifetime warranties
77:04 so there you go curtains would you ever branch out into
77:07 gaming or any genre of gaming for your channels it'd be cool to see your hardware choices for games my hardware
77:12 choices are almost always
77:16 catered to gamers that's one of the reasons i'm here on twitch as opposed to
77:19 being somewhere else random because everything i talk about hardware wise is
77:23 all about the gaming experience i mean yeah i can give tips on things like
77:27 video editing or whatever else but
77:32 yeah i'm probably not going to do any game gameplay videos but it's possible
77:37 that slick will do some at some point my understanding is he's pretty good at dota
77:42 ah boston stapler Linus you should unbox upside down after you have read the info
77:47 so you don't have to flip the unboxed product to make it up right i've had a lot of people suggest that to me yes i
77:52 know i could do that the reason i do it the way i do it is because when i'm
77:56 storing the packages the handles are usually on the top of the box so if i
78:00 always have the top of the box open then i'll always have the handles in the right place for boxes where it doesn't
78:05 have handles and it doesn't matter it's just helpful for me visually to know
78:09 when i'm picking up a box which end is the end that's open so i always open up
78:13 the top as opposed to anywhere else
78:16 minus something being delayed something's being delayed
78:20 sorry guys i don't know what's being delayed i know there's i know that you
78:24 guys don't see the stream until sort of a little while later when when i when i
78:28 sort of see that you saw it but there's not a whole lot i can do about it
78:32 Linus what are your thoughts on microsoft surface i'm super excited about it very very excited
78:38 uh what SSD would i recommend 120 gig under 100 get an m4 or get an 8 30.
78:44 um have you ever
78:48 mistered a man of a mr man
78:52 wait a minute are you talking about uh hold on
78:56 i might actually know what you're talking about
79:00 i'm not sure if i know what you're talking about kenjiro
79:04 but uh i have i have a random stuff folder in my in my
79:08 photos here sorry large icons and i think i think i know i think i
79:14 know the thing you're talking about uh
79:17 okay no no not that one and then might be oh it might be this
79:22 one like this one hold on hold on i'm sorry guys bear with me here this won't
79:25 take long oh that's not it oh i might not be able
79:28 to find it but i think you can create like a mr man of yourself
79:32 on like the mr men website and i think that's what he's referring to
79:37 but i cannot find it alas so
79:40 yes i have then jolly
79:43 hello there installing a CPU water cooler for my friend any advice for a
79:47 first timer with water cooling with the pre-done kits it's really simple with
79:50 the non-pre-done kits watch my guide i did a four-part video that covers
79:55 selecting components installing it maintaining it all good stuff
80:01 will i ever tell my baby's name i haven't decided yet for now i'm keeping
80:05 his name quiet because you know as much as you guys might see baby pictures of
80:10 him on twitter or whatever else i you know i don't want him to be in a
80:13 situation where he goes to kindergarten and like
80:17 you know people sort of know who he is already and it's kind of weird
80:21 so uh yeah
80:25 um yeah that was that was a picture of my
80:30 wife guys that's not that's not a that's not a porn stash that's that's my wife
80:39 that's an old picture of her that's when she was in uh she was in high school
80:43 super super photoshopped but uh yes no lies and hey inappropriate whoever was
80:48 saying that be appropriate
80:52 you guys
80:55 um slick did slick actually create a twitch
80:59 channel i don't i don't know if this is actually him it looks like he's following me but
81:04 it could be it could be anybody following johnny chu i don't know if
81:07 that's actually slick you should tweet him tweet him at slickpc to find out if
81:10 that's actually him but if it is then cool vincent green's from delta i grew up in
81:15 delta actually in ladner and i think we're almost done so i'm gonna find one

81:40 um okay i want to upgrade to something something
81:45 will MSI void my GPU warranty if i install an aftermarket water block uh
81:49 not if they don't know about it um
81:52 Linus do you think motherboard atx evga did one board with the atx pin uh at a
81:58 right angle i don't think it matters personally i don't think it's a factor
82:02 uh get the lightning brandon
82:07 i can play battlefield 3 at 1080p on high with a ti
82:10 yes a 650 time would probably bump you up to ultra

82:28 think that yeah display interfaces roundup with 163 000 views i talk about
82:33 all the differences in all the different display
82:36 technologies uh brendan can you suggest a microphone for game commentary i hear
82:40 a lot about some snowball thing but i've never actually used it
82:47 jordan you are forgiven for insulting how short i am
82:53 i'm in the market for a good laptop and i'm thinking of getting a macbook pro

83:03 lewis yes this is madness tyrone asks if i've ever been to jail no i have not
83:07 actually um that's a very strange question
83:12 have you seen the leap motion i vaguely remember something about it but i'm
83:16 sorry what are your thoughts on the vulcans versus the 7h
83:20 vulcans are awesome the noise cancellation is outstanding the vulcans
83:24 are the closest to the 7h that i've yet encountered
83:27 they're awesome they're a little bit heavy i personally find them not as
83:31 comfortable as the 7hs the audio quality is not quite as good but the sound
83:35 isolation is amazing outstanding
83:38 very good product um
83:42 angel you can donate your macbook pro to me i'd love to have a 2010 macbook pro
83:46 i'd install Windows on it mind you but you know

85:03 get in touch with some of these guys because these are the guys that i already filtered down to be like the
85:06 best of the best and everyone i interviewed was
85:10 outstanding to be perfectly honest but uh hey that's awesome hi chris
85:14 chris i actually interviewed for slick's position but slick uh
85:18 slick one out for you know and it was honestly it was really close it was like

85:28 thought were were really good and i couldn't uh i couldn't hire them john my favorite
85:33 switches are blues however they're a little bit loud for my living situation

85:47 i just using them keyboards are so personal don't like the travel distance
