0:09 curse for more details welcome to an unboxing of something that's actually a
0:14 little bit tricky to find because you can't just go to the Local Best Buy and
0:19 buy ice mods lighting Products but uh
0:23 Mundy from Ice mods reached out and sent
0:26 over a couple of his okay it's ice mods with a z a couple of his ice mods lights
0:32 so one of them is UV and the other one is a clear one he's also got some other
0:37 cool new stuff coming so he's adding black pcbs he's adding um sort of
0:43 multicolored ones which are going to be pretty cool as well so basically really
0:48 small company you can order from them directly based in Iceland or something I
0:53 believe so we're going to go ahead and check out what he's sent over for us to
0:57 take a look at now one of the other things that ice mods does is cable sleeving so I'm expecting the sleeving
1:03 on these to be absolutely exceptional and it looks like my expectations are
1:09 pretty much 100% dead on that is some of
1:12 the schiestle I've ever seen on a product
1:16 that comes out of the box you can't see through it at all it is an extremely
1:21 tight weave and it's multicolored so there's actually a gray strip a black
1:24 strip a gray strip a black strip uh he's also done a really good job I can see
1:29 here of of covering up the way that the
1:32 cable itself is attached to the LED strip now ice mods isn't the only
1:37 company in the world to do LED strips but I can tell you right now based on my
1:41 experience with the uh the phobia ones
1:44 which are not attached very securely like you could probably go like this and
1:50 if you did that maybe four five six times uh you could probably break them
1:53 off pretty consistently whereas these strips have much larger contact pads for
1:58 soldering so uh so yeah that's a good thing also the way that he's achieved
2:03 his waterproofness is uh by adding there we
2:08 go a silicone looks like sleeve over top personally I find I prefer to take those
2:13 off since I'm not usually going to be immersing the LED strips in water but uh
2:17 you can see how that's sealed around the edges and then this is sealed around the
2:22 edges as well so white PCB for now so I want to go ahead and show you guys the
2:26 rig that thanks Rumble uh the rig that I'm going to be installing these in so
2:30 I'm going to do the UV one on top up
2:33 here so that I get some nice UV glow from the tubing you can see these are
2:37 quite long strips I believe these are 45
2:42 cm 30 I mean whatever they're they're pretty long so you can see how long they
2:46 are they're about sort of a Linus uh elbow to to fingertip in terms of the
2:51 actual length so let's go ahead and light them up uh okay this rig needs a
2:58 power adapter yes I'll do something with the cable
3:01 management later but uh okay we got a little he included one adapter for me
3:05 I'm assuming if you actually buy them you get an adapter with each one so
3:10 let's go ahead and plug this bad boy in
3:14 and it doesn't work no I'm just kidding computer's not on that's always the
3:18 first thing you want to check very nice extremely bright UV effect so you can
3:23 see even in the daylight of this room just installing the strip in the top uh
3:27 what I'll probably have to do is get it so it doesn't go right over the radiator
3:31 gives us a strong UV glow from all of that blue tubing in there that looks
3:37 really nice actually so even from a distance of about here you can see UV
3:42 not UV UV not UV I would definitely
3:46 recommend getting some distance between the UV strip and the items that you that
3:50 you are want to flues and then the other thing is as well you don't want to
3:55 position this such that you're going to see it through the actual case cuz
3:58 they're pretty much like painful to look at they're extremely bright um as is
4:02 true of of many of these UV strips that are available out there so the other one
4:06 we have here is nice long uh nice long sleeved cables on these as well that was
4:11 one of the other issues I had with the other ones that I had used in my own rig
4:15 they had very very short cables on them so those are wow yeah you're not even
4:21 going to be able to look at these but I think uh okay well here so without them
4:27 and then like with them so go ahead and
4:32 put that down here where I would probably position it you can actually cut them to length which is sort of neat
4:37 I'll show you that on this one so uh there should be scissor marks on here
4:41 somewhere oh hold on I don't know if this one yep okay so at all of these
4:47 spots it looks like you can cut them off
4:51 so you can cut them to whatever length you want and that is true of the white
4:55 one as well although it's marked in a slightly different way so there's an actual scissor line on there so you you
4:59 can cut that off so I won't be able to use probably the full length so I'll go
5:03 along the bottom with the white and then I want some UV in the top so I'm going
5:08 to have to cut probably one or two segments off of this guy let's go ahead
5:12 and plug that back in so we can see what the case lighting will look like LED
5:16 strips are so much more practical than cathodes for a couple of reasons so
5:20 number one is that they are much lower profile number two is you don't have to
5:24 have a large bulky inverter to to convert from 12vt DC to 20 volt AC and
5:31 actually I don't even know if it's 120 volt AC but it's AC for sure I have no
5:34 idea what voltage it's running at but um I think that's pretty much it thanks for
5:38 checking out this unboxing oh I he includes adhesive strips but they might
5:42 have fallen out of the envelope when I was fussing around with them so yeah
5:46 those those are included too 3M Adhesive uh don't forget to subscribe Planet Tech
