today we will be doing an upside down unboxing of the fsp AUM series gold 400
0:13
power supply so personally I'm a big fan
0:16
of Highly efficient reasonable wattage power supplies and the reason for that
0:21
is actually outlined in a recent edition of NC Tech tips that I did and uh you
0:27
you should check that out it's called power supply y power consumption system
0:32
power consumption or something like that and um what we basically do is we take a
0:37
system we upgrade it from a very very basic configuration all the way through
0:41
all the steps up to a very high-end machine and then we discover as we go
0:45
along how much power it consumes so what we found out was we plugged in a 1200
0:49
watt 80 plus gold power supply and power consumption sucked the efficiency was no
0:54
good because we were consuming so little power from it whereas if we'd taken a
0:57
400 watt 80 plus gold power supply we
1:01
would have actually consumed less power as a whole so it's got kind of a neat
1:05
finish on it it's got a 5-year warranty it's recommended for gaming and
1:09
workstation remember you can power a decent gaming machine off a 400 wat
1:12
power supply here's the overall specs which we'll see as we open up the unit
1:16
itself fsp Maya IC multiple intelligence
1:20
ability chipset okay uh what else have we got here constant holdup control
1:25
performs continuous adjustments according to the output load in order to
1:29
achieve the best possible efficiency so this is all about efficiency as I
1:32
mentioned before it is 80 plus gold let's just go ahead and start opening up
1:38
the unit itself so the first thing we find inside is a quick start guide which
1:42
pretty much tells you not a whole
1:45
lot English is the fourth language in
1:48
here if I can even find it shows you the connectors and whatnot we've also got
1:52
four black thumb screws nice little touch an FSB case badge as well as uh
1:59
three velcro cable ties power cable is
2:04
included and then the power supply
2:07
itself uh wrapped in my favorite kind of foam so the Clos cell foam that is
2:11
really very very durable and you can see
2:14
right here this is a 400 W power supply so it doesn't have a whole lot of cables
2:18
attached but let's look at the unit itself first so it's got a goldish
2:24
blackish darkish this is a really neat powder coat finish this is actually very
2:28
similar to the finish that I have on my tj07 case my personal case I had it done
2:33
by Mountain mods it's they call it black wrinkle it's very durable completely
2:37
fingerprint proof almost scratch proof and looks outstanding it's like a matte
2:42
black but it has a little bit of shine to it almost like it has brush Strokes
2:45
in it like it was painted piece of plastic in there we've got a 120 mm
2:49
cooling fan covered by a grill it's covered by a little piece of plastic
2:53
here that'll protect that go ahead and remove that there you go now you can see the full shininess at the back we have
2:58
kind of an arrow design to The Back Grill that looks like it should provide
3:02
pretty unrestricted air flow through the back of the power supply uh Power input
3:07
power switch on both sides of the unit we
3:10
find oh hold on what's that oh that
3:13
comes off okay we find fsp branding as
3:16
well as that nice uh black wrinkle finish on the top we find the overall
3:20
specs of the unit so let's have a look here you can see it does have dual 12vt
3:24
rails that are together capable of providing up to 384 watts of power so
3:29
that is almost the full 400 wat capacity of this power
3:34
supply and then we move around to the other side of the unit where we find
3:38
more fsp branding you can see what they've done is if your Windows on the
3:42
normal side of your case no matter oh no okay it will be upside down if you go
3:46
this way so the fsp will be right side up if you install it this way around
3:50
we've got a few more of those ventilation arrows here on the front of the unit and now let's have a look at
3:55
the sleeving as well as the cables that come preattached to the r from 400 wat
4:02
so here we are we have our 20 plus 4 pin power connector you can see that uses a
4:07
a pretty decent quality sleeving on it so you can't really see the color of the
4:10
wires too much through that okay next we have our 4 plus 4 pin EPS power
4:16
connector so this is quite a long cable which is good because if you have a
4:19
bottom mounted power supply you're going to want to be able to reach the top left corner of the motherboard where that's
4:23
usually situated here we have a 6 plus2
4:27
so 8 Pin PCIe power adapter I would have liked to see an additional one of these
4:31
but you can always use adapters so we do have three Molex connectors and one
4:36
floppy connector so you could use a couple of those to get another PCIe 6
4:40
pin out of it remember this will power a decent machine right guys so even with
4:44
like a GTX 560 you'll have no problem using a 400 wat power supply and then
4:48
finally four SATA power connectors so
4:51
all of those are sleeved and then terminated individually so it looks
4:55
quite nice so let's just see if there's anything else we missed here before we
4:59
wrap it Up acoustic noise they're claiming it's whoops they're claiming
5:03
it's quite quiet even up to 100% load most power supplies you see on their
5:07
noise charts they usually kind of ramp up like this near 100% load this one
5:11
does not and in terms of efficiency because it is 80 plus gold it is peaking
5:16
up at around 90% efficiency so thank you
5:20
for checking out my unboxing of the RM 400 wat power supply from fsp don't
