Digital hey guys we're at the huge massive glorious Sony Booth checking up
0:14
their head-mounted display and this really caught my eye because when I
0:17
first saw it I actually thought it had something to do with oculus but it's not really like Oculus so what's the main
0:21
differences uh I can't tell I can't speak for what it's not I can speak to
0:25
what it is uh this is our second generation of the head mounted viewer
0:28
it's the hmz T 3w it's uh it replicates
0:32
really an indoor theater but it just sits on your face uh what's different
0:36
about this one than its predecessor it's completely portable so when we were
0:39
talking earlier about gaming gaming is a truly immersive experience in this uh
0:43
but so is watching a movie or what have you projects the equivalent of 150 in
0:47
movie screen from about 12 ft away so slipping this thing on when you're on
0:51
the airplane plugging in your audio uh the content source for the video whether
0:55
it be from your tablet your phone PC or what have you sit back on the plane and
0:59
enjoy uh a truly immersive Movie experience so
1:03
essentially wherever you go if you have an HDMI plug you consume whatever media
1:07
is are there essentially yeah here at the CES demonstrations we're doing uh we
1:11
have it plugged into both PlayStation 4 uh and then tablets and mobile phones it
1:15
takes an HDMI in so if you're coming from a tablet or what have you I might
1:18
use a uh uh MHL to HDMI connection or if
1:23
you're coming from Ser your cable box at home HDMI to HDMI perfect now they have
1:27
two demos here one standing demo one sitting demo the standing demo you were
1:31
just consuming content of a movie and that was really interesting because like
1:34
you said on the plane in a car ride if you're in the back seat hopefully not the front seat uh wherever you are you
1:39
can consume media media very easily and very well it's it's I was surprised
1:43
because when I tried out the Oculus I know sorry um the the the picture
1:47
quality is not quite there yet I know they're not released and all that kind of stuff but you can definitely see the
1:51
pixels on this one it was it was different I could see things very
1:55
clearly the display was really good now can you tell me more about the display
1:58
yeah the displays are twoo OLED panels uh and they're inches away from your eye
2:02
they're 720p panels uh Engineers tell me that the reason they're not 1080p is
2:06
that it' be a wasted resolution since those panels are so close to your eyes
2:10
uh so uh twin OLED panels uh inches away
2:13
with your nose in between uh it does great 3D so when this this product first
2:18
came out in the US we called it the uh 3D viewer uh people thought well I don't
2:23
want to watch 3D you don't have to so now we name it the headmount display
2:26
that was probably pretty smart because when I first said 3D viewr that's EX exactly what I thought it was when I was
2:31
playing the game it's it's you weren't necessarily controlling the car I know
2:35
that's not necessarily a thing yet but may possibly be in the future uh but it
2:38
it was cool because the car was ripping down the racetrack and you could look
2:41
around as if you were the guy in the in the vehicle so looking around checking
2:45
everything out and with that crisp of a display like it's it's interesting
2:50
because Oculus the one I've tried is also 720p and this is 72 120p but it's a
2:55
completely different experience Oculus you can see the pixel grid like I said
2:58
earlier on this one you cannot so it's definitely awesome and I definitely
3:01
recommend trying it out so the convention closed while we were trying to finish our Sony head mounted display
3:05
video so we returned to Canada I retired the suit and now we're finishing it up
3:10
uh for those of you that are looking for an Oculus this is not an Oculus in my
3:14
opinion if you're looking for an extremely immersive VR experience you
3:17
should probably be going with an Oculus if you're looking for a really high-end
3:21
media consumption device say if you're using a lot of public transit or
3:24
something like that this is a really good idea it's really nice for movies
3:28
the picture quality is amazing amazing um but it does have a price tag as well
3:33
it's looking around $1,000 plus depending on where you live um I know a
3:37
few of you Europeans are not going to be exactly happy with the price tag at the
3:40
end of the conversion rate and stuff like that but it is a really high-end
3:44
device OLED displays 720p that close to your face looks great etc etc thank you
3:49
for watching our CES 2014 content if you want to see the rest of our CES 2014
