0:00 the ant lion mod mic was always a good idea and while for some people myself
0:04 included the previous revisions actually worked reasonably well the ongoing sound
0:09 card compatibility issues minimal features and just plain old lack of
0:13 availability made them not a great option for a lot of
0:22 people a global leader in Tech recruiting is celebrating Geek Pride by
0:26 giving away 10 amazing Tech prizes for more info visit the MoDOT Facebook page
0:30 or modus.com but none of those things were enough to
0:35 stop those folks from continuing to refine the original concept being able
0:41 to keep your high quality headphones and put a highquality boom style microphone
0:46 on them instead of resorting to one of several other solutions that have always
0:50 felt a little bit cluggy to me clipping your mic to your clothes tethers you to
0:55 your desk a desktop microphone picks up a lot of ambient noise and switching to
0:59 a gaming headset when you game will either give you rubbish audio quality on
1:03 your end or you'll be spending a fortune on a quality allinone like the atth ag1
1:09 from Audio Technica which just plain doesn't make sense if you already have
1:14 awesome headphones that you like today
1:17 all of that changes my review unit of the modmic 4.0 didn't come in a package
1:22 that looked like they made it out of an old toilet paper roll with a handwritten
1:26 notet tape to the side wishing me luck no this one I'm I get a handy dandy and
1:31 surprisingly rugged little carrying case with a simple instruction manual that
1:35 directs you to the website if you have any further questions two magnetic bases
1:39 that allow the mic to be rotated or removed completely from whatever
1:43 headphones you attach them to got to love them magnets some extra adhesive
1:47 for one of the bases and finally an alcohol prep pad for attaching the
1:51 magnetic base to your headphones the mod mic itself is thicker than the old one
1:56 and more robust feeling in every way the
2:00 microphone tip is larger and has a nice snug fitting windscreen that fits over
2:05 top of it but you should still be careful when mounting it to keep the
2:08 microphone off to the side of your mouth instead of directly in front of it for
2:12 better sound quality and fewer plosives moving down we've got the other
2:18 half of the magnetic Mount and a clever little like bending system that can be
2:22 adjusted to fit well in the lowered and
2:26 raised position without unnecessarily tugging on you you you can also adjust
2:30 it if you want and bend it however will fit you best further down we find an
2:35 inline mute something that was seriously missing from the older revisions and
2:40 then a thicker than normal but still flexible and actually very lightweight
2:44 wire that terminates in a standard 3 and 1 12 mm Jack it's just little things but
2:51 they add up to a lot last time the mod mic felt like a really exciting science
2:57 fair project and this time it feels like a finished product from a real company
3:02 but of course you guys want to know how it sounds right frankly great it blows
3:07 the doors off most of the gaming headset microphones that I've heard and to my
3:12 ear is closer to the excellent microphone on the Audio Technica headset
3:16 that I mentioned before than to anything else that I've heard but you can judge
3:19 for yourself self selves or self however
3:24 many people there are watching right now here is a microphone test with it
3:30 this is my audio recording test for the mod mic 4.0 it sounds absolutely
3:34 fantastic to me but I guess I'll let you guys be the judge of
3:40 that also there will be dancing involved
3:43 in this microphone test something that I probably should have warned everyone
3:46 about before it happened sorry now bear
3:50 in mind the only side by-side comparison you're listening to right now is with
3:55 the $600 microphone system that I'm
3:58 using so so for some more fair comparisons check out the SoundCloud
4:03 Link in the video description which I will continue to add to as time goes on
4:09 so with all of that out of the way I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions
4:12 about a product like this but here are my thoughts anyway I love it it's a
4:16 better implementation of a product that I already liked it is a little bit on
4:20 the expensive side but it sounds great and frankly for the target audience
4:25 people who have headphones that sound better than gaming headsets the price
4:30 won't be unreasonable when you consider the quality and functionality of it and
4:33 the fact that it allows you to use that other investment you've already made
4:37 more often one thing that they really
4:40 need to figure out though even if I don't have a solution off the top of my
4:45 head is the two wire issue whether it's through an optional accessory or
4:50 something that they include in the Box ant lion needs to find a way to let me
4:55 manage the headphone and microphone wires together so I don't end up with a
4:59 Tangled mess they address this somehow and this thing is pure gold as usual
5:06 guys the link to pricing and availability for the I reused an old
5:10 script so it says plexer M6 SSD but
5:13 actually it's the mod mic 4.0 is in the video description below
