0:00 hp reached out to sponsor a showcase of their new elite books so i've got the 14
0:04 inch 1040 g4 and the 12 and a half inch x360 1020 g2 here these are both ultra
0:11 slim business notebooks each of them with three yes three discreet
0:16 hardware enforced security features to keep your computer secure no matter
0:21 where you're working and this is probably the coolest one
0:25 toggleable privacy filter what
0:38 most of the time you'll want the full experience of the elitebooks glossy 4k
0:42 ips touchscreen but what about situations where you
0:46 don't want lookie-loos spying over your shoulder or you actually can't let
0:52 others see the sensitive information on your screen like when you're trying to
0:55 get some real work done on a plane sure view is hp's name for their
1:00 built-in privacy screen that you can toggle with a one button click
1:05 this is so cool
1:08 sure view combines a 3m light control film on the screen with a proprietary
1:14 backlight behind it so when sure view is off the backlight uses two light sources
1:20 to disperse light across all areas of the display when it's on however the
1:25 backlight only uses one light source and
1:28 it focuses it through the light control film in a narrow 70 degree cone reducing
1:34 up to 95 of the light that's being emitted outside of your privacy zone it
1:40 doesn't block off-axis viewing to quite
1:43 the same degree as a standalone external filter and it does cut down on the
1:48 vertical viewing angles a little bit even when it's disabled
1:51 but from our experience it is more than good
1:55 enough it doesn't add any extra bulk to this super slim notebook the ability to
2:00 toggle it on and off is freaking awesome
2:04 and it can even have the added benefit of increasing battery life by up to 15
2:08 percent depending on how long you keep it on all right let's move on to
2:12 attackers that aren't sitting in the same room unsecure web browsing is one
2:16 of the most common attack vectors for malware as innocent employees or even
2:21 woke it buffs like you and i can easily
2:24 download malicious malware or ransomware if we haven't had our morning coffee yet
2:29 to combat this hp has worked closely with bromium on a feature that they call
2:34 sure click which is designed to shift the cyber security responsibility from
2:39 the bright-eyed internet user to the pc itself whenever you visit a website
2:44 sureclick isolates the browsing session inside of a micro virtual machine which
2:50 eliminates the ability of that one site to infect the system or even other
2:54 browser tabs if a piece of malware attacks a browsing
2:58 session it simply goes away once the infected tab is closed
3:02 it all works through the sureclick browser which currently supports both
3:05 internet explorer and chromium without adding any extra baloney
3:10 but you can also check out some vital stats through the sureclick console
3:14 including how many pages have been safely opened and how many micro vms are
3:18 instantiated at that moment moving on let's look at the last line of defense
3:22 our third security feature here it's a below the os protocol called hp sure
3:28 start which i personally would have called sure boot because it kicks out
3:33 any foreign code that might have made its way into your machine's BIOS
3:38 built into a custom hardware chip on the system board surestart will
3:42 cryptographically verify the integrity of the hp BIOS code before the CPU is
3:47 allowed to execute even the first line if the system detects that the BIOS has
3:52 been altered from a malicious attack or an accidental error or whatever the
3:57 embedded controller will replace the BIOS with a new copy that's stored in a
4:02 secret memory that can't be accessed by third-party software or malware or even
4:07 third-party firmware okay but hold on a second Linus i don't really restart my
4:12 computer that often my BIOS could be infected for days or weeks before sure
4:16 start fixes it ah no so this latest
4:20 third generation of surestart has run time intrusion detection meaning it will
4:24 continually verify that a genuine hp system BIOS is present in the system
4:29 flash and if tampering is detected it will automatically restore the BIOS
4:35 while the system is running but even with all these hardcore
4:38 security features there's no extra bulk on these notebooks they're just over
4:42 half an inch at their thickest and are very light despite all the goodies
4:46 inside so ours rock core i7 7600u
4:50 processors 16 gigs of RAM and a one
4:53 terabyte NVMe SSD with HDMI output and
4:56 dual Thunderbolt 3 ports the x360 even
5:00 comes with a stylus if you want to get your ard on or
5:04 more likely in my case jot down some chicken scratch notes and diagrams not
5:08 too shabby the 1040 g4 and the x360 1020
5:12 g2 both start at 13.99 so be sure to check them and all their
5:16 hardware-enforced features out at the link below
