0:00 it's happened to everyone you find the
0:03 perfect headphones I'm talking perfect
0:07 in every way except the cords too short
0:10 or the headband digs in or the Dank base
0:13 drops are more like dank
0:17 basements there are so many things that can go wrong that it's impossible to
0:23 find a set that's 100% Flawless until
0:28 now meet the tma2 modular headphone
0:32 system from II the headphone maker that
0:36 lets you have it your
0:47 way the master keys Pro keyboard lineup from Cooler Master is available in three
0:52 sizes each in white or RGB flavors check
0:56 them out at the link below for their TMA 2 II has atomized
1:02 their headphones into four constituent Parts headbands speaker units earpads
1:08 and cables allowing you theoretically to
1:12 mix and match to perfectly suit your needs and your budget every part in the
1:18 lineup is compatible with every other one and they all have this understated
1:24 postmodern aesthetic that you probably won't be surprised to learn came out of
1:29 northern Europe these headphones are straight up a lot cooler than I am and
1:34 their website is pretty cool too and refreshingly welld designed which is
1:38 pretty important since it's all you'll have to go on you can't just go to the
1:43 Local Best Buy and try every combination
1:47 so not only does it let you browse the various parts available in each category
1:52 it also offers several paths to choosing
1:55 a suitable assemblage you can Dive Right
1:58 In with their Nifty configurator tool or
2:02 sync up your Spotify account to get a suggested config based on the music you
2:06 listen to or you can just pick one of the presets that II has designed I think
2:13 one of the best parts of working on this review was actually the assembly it was
2:17 kind of like getting a new kit of Lego when I was a kid the components come
2:20 individually bagged and putting them together is not only super easy but it's
2:24 actually kind of fun the pieces snap together with plastic clips and Sliders
2:30 but I want to be clear that yes they're plastic but I really don't get a sense
2:34 that they had to compromise a whole lot on build quality in order to achieve
2:39 their modularity goals the soft touch
2:42 matte black components feel great and
2:45 the headband sizes adjust with a very satisfying click so II sent us almost
2:52 every flavor of each of the four parts
2:56 so we've got ear pads with microfiber f
2:59 leather or velour padding cord combinations from short to long to
3:05 straight to curly to width or without
3:08 inline controls and microphones we've got 40 mm Dynamic driver speaker units
3:13 with all manner of different magnets diaphragms and venting and we've got a
3:19 selection of slim or padded headbands
3:23 almost the only thing they didn't include is their upcoming wireless
3:27 Bluetooth headband so with enough parts
3:30 to reconstruct all of II's preset
3:34 bundles we set out to do just that from
3:38 the $145 allar arounds to the
3:43 $260 tone meisters every pair is
3:48 subjectively very stylish with no tacky brand logos visible and the only
3:53 Interruption to the clean matte black looks being an optional splash of color
3:58 on the cord they're all lightweight and comfortable
4:02 and I even prefer the long-term feeling of the overear tma2 configurations to
4:08 that of the Sennheiser momentums and headband caliper pressure is snug of
4:14 course a little higher on the on your configs like the DJ preset the ear pads
4:18 are free to articulate a bit and you can
4:21 plug the cord into whichever side you prefer nice but how do they sound well
4:29 as you might ECT that depends heavily on
4:32 your personal configuration particularly the speaker
4:36 units and earpads so we're used to seeing
4:41 headphone product descriptions full of marketing buzzwords and audio file lingo
4:46 and while the II site is guilty of that to a degree what I will say is this the
4:52 tma2 descriptions do contain some meaningful information some speaker
4:58 units have Punch Your Bass and some earpads as advertised do create
5:03 a wider Sound Stage but the summary I
5:06 guess then is this all the configurations we tested sounded what I
5:11 would describe as pretty solid at their
5:14 respective price points though I would
5:17 actually recommend avoiding the entrylevel S so1 speaker units as they
5:21 were the only ones that stood out as being overly bright forward and kind of
5:27 baseless thankfully s o2s are only 25
5:31 bucks more and spending more does
5:35 continue to get you a more natural sound
5:38 but it should be noted I don't want this to come across as a suggestion that you
5:43 just buy the most expensive configuration because that might not be
5:47 the one that you personally like best
5:50 which brings us to the big question then modular headphones like the tma2 do do
5:55 they make sense compared to a comparably
5:58 priced convention set definitely they sound good and
6:05 you're not paying a premium for the
6:08 modularity II's previous TMA 1
6:11 headphones retailed for 200 bucks and are now available as the tma2 DJ preset
6:17 for 200 bucks so what do you get well
6:21 nothing you didn't pay for if you don't want inline controls don't buy them if
6:27 you know you want a longer cord you're not forced to also pay for a stock
6:32 shorter one this entire concept makes
6:35 replacing damaged pieces or future
6:38 incremental upgrades possible in a way that just isn't if you have to replace
6:43 an entire headphone at once making them I guess more sustainable too so bonus
6:49 while we're on that subject they've also got this one headphone to rule them all
6:54 thing going on where you can actually transform them from Studio mode to
6:58 sweaty gym mode by swapping out the earpads which takes just a few seconds
7:03 or from wired to Bluetooth just by unplugging the cable now we're talking
7:09 to be clear though we are not saying the tma2 is for everyone and it's going to
7:15 Dethrone our favorite headphones not by a long shot but the best sounding
7:19 headphones don't cost 150 to 250 bucks
7:23 what we are saying is that if that is your price range these look great sound
7:28 great and allow you to get the right headphones for you instead of the best
