store. phantom.in screen protectors out there
0:08
as well as hyperx so in the the most
0:11
unlikely series of events ever I ended up at the Oculus booth at CES 2015 I
0:16
definitely didn't plan to be here at all we're checking out their Crescent Bay
0:20
prototype which is actually kind of fantastic we're out of the crystally
0:23
cove and we're into the bay now before I get into the awesome experience of this
0:28
prototype I'm going to talk about the hardware a little bit Unfortunately they wouldn't talk to me about any screen
0:32
improvements but they said it is a better screen although they did say it
0:35
is 90 HZ now instead of 75 um and they
0:38
wouldn't talk to me about the very specifics of the headphones but I can
0:41
tell you the the visual experience is quite good I don't think it's 100% ready
0:46
yet necessarily as when you get close to things you can definitely see the
0:49
resolution issues but the screen door seriously bad effect that we had on dk1
0:54
is basically solved as of this point now the headphones are spatial Audio
0:58
headphones and they're going to be releasing their spatial audio SDK for
1:02
DK2 users fairly soon so that people can start programming audio where you you
1:06
drop an audio effect somewhere in a room and you can hear specifically where it is cool cool cool so if you're crouching
1:11
below it you can tell you're below it Etc um but these headphones will be
1:15
removable on the consumer version the cv1 and there won't be a development kit
1:20
version of the uh the Crescent Bay prototype so you don't have to worry
1:25
about them not being removable on this one uh the removable headphones will be
1:28
no big deal you can strap on pretty much whatever you want the tracking on
1:32
Crescent Bay has gotten a massive massive Improvement and this is where I
1:36
saw DK2 lacking the most so I'm very happy that they focused on it they
1:39
probably realized that themselves not only have they added a ton of ir LEDs
1:44
including some around the rim so that you could see the IR LEDs from the back
1:49
but also on the back of your head in a triangle shape so that if you turn
1:53
completely around it is able to tell what you're doing it can tell if you
1:57
have your head tilted it can track you even if you turn around that was a huge
2:01
issue with DK2 because once you got slightly out of the box it would
2:04
disconnect and once you got a little bit too low it would disconnect but not only
2:08
is is there more tracking R LEDs but the the framing on the camera is much wider
2:13
vertically and horizontally so it'll be able to pick you up if you move out of
2:17
frame even more and it was very very noticeable and a huge Improvement
2:21
overall now for the experience uh we weren't allowed to capture footage of
2:24
the screen so I can't show you exactly what was happening but they had some
2:28
demos specifically tuned for Crescent Bay and it was pretty freaking fantastic
2:33
I got Brandon to try it out too because it was just way too cool they had stuff
2:37
like a dinosaur that would come down and basically eat you and they had some
2:41
crazy uh FPS battle scenes where you constantly feel like something's going
2:45
to hit you in the face and both Brandon and I physically dodged the bullet that
2:48
came for us because uh while presence in dk1 and DK2 were quite strong being able
2:54
to properly stand up and move around in the environment is insane obviously this
2:59
setup does doesn't have full body tracking so I wasn't able to lift my
3:02
hands up and actually move my hands around but once that comes around going
3:07
to be ridiculous because of how much of improvement the presence was on this
3:10
device all right guys I'm super stoked that I finally got to check out the
3:13
Oculus Booth thank you guys for watching let me know what you think about the
3:17
