0:00 hi my name is Luke I'm addicted to Retro games it all
0:05 started when I was about 10 my brother and I did chores around the house for
0:08 cash until we saved up enough money for mom to buy us a Super Nintendo off some
0:13 creepy dude that I was scared of at the time ever since then I've been hooked
0:18 and I don't just play the games I read
0:21 books about them I collect the figurines of the
0:25 characters I just can't
0:28 stop I even brought my obsession to work
0:32 fortunately for me my job's really cool and that's okay here so today I get to
0:36 check out the analog NT mini Beyond being the most beautifully crafted piece
0:40 of console Hardware that I have ever laid my hands on it's got amazing under
0:44 the hood capabilities too with a 1080p capable HDMI out and an RGB all-in-one
0:50 output for NES and famicom games and it can be yours for
0:55 $4.49 that's uh
0:58 $449
1:08 Zotac Magnus en10 mini gaming PC is VR
1:12 and AAA gaming ready check it out at the link in the video
1:17 description everything about this is the Cadillac experience this is the most
1:21 comprehensive IO setup I could imagine for a NES or a famicom you've got all
1:26 the obvious stuff power button power input whatever but most so the rest of
1:30 this is going to look pretty exotic there are two thoughtfully padded
1:34 cartridge slots on the top that allow both the nests and famicom games from
1:39 any region to be played natively without any form of adapters on the front you'll
1:44 find a whopping four console inputs for the handful of games that can take
1:49 advantage of this and moving around to the back there's a USB charging port for
1:53 the included low latency wireless controller that can be used to power
1:56 this system on for a surprisingly modern feeling experience the SD card slot can
2:02 be used for all kinds of fun more on that later then moving back around the
2:07 back we find a famicom expansion Port helpfully labeled in Japanese for
2:11 compatibility with obscure accessories like the famicom disc system and what it
2:17 even has a mic Jack for the tiny number
2:20 of famicom games that could actually use a microphone fun fact Wind Waker was not
2:26 the first Zelda game to pull this off
2:31 audio outputs are standard but video is another story you get this analog output
2:36 Port that can be adapted with a breakout cable to pretty much anything you could
2:40 want and it has native HDMI which is much more challenging to do properly
2:46 than you might think more on that later which leads us finally to the internals
2:51 conveniently enjoyable through the window in the bottom of the unit an odd
2:56 choice but nerds will like it I like it it's actually on the other other side of
3:00 this PCB where you find the heart and soul of the system the Altera Cyclone 5
3:05 fpga Hardware which has been custom configured by an electrical engineer
3:09 with over 5,000 hours of experience
3:12 re-engineering fpga systems for absolute
3:15 Ness accuracy this is incredibly
3:19 important and this is what you are paying for the Tim mini is not some
3:24 random emulation box in fact it's not an
3:27 emulation box at all instead of writing a bunch of software code to fake the
3:32 functionality of Nintendo's original Hardware everything is done in HDL or
3:37 Hardware definition language This Is How They achieved an identical experience to
3:42 the original Ness 100% compatibility 100% accuracy zero additional lag but is
3:48 it actually solid I threw everything that I had at it and experienced no
3:52 issues whatsoever that weren't caused by my Dusty old carts this is not the
3:57 experience that I've had with other off off brand retro systems that I've tried
4:01 and I do acknowledge that I don't have every game on Earth but I couldn't find
4:06 a single instance of anyone online having any issues either there's even a
4:11 new game that came out like not that long ago why people are still making
4:16 games for nest I don't know but it works it uses all four controller ports it's
4:19 all fine but back to the NT mini how can an HDMI output claimed to be faithful to
4:25 the original experience well this is not your dad's HDMI output or if your dad
4:31 had one I guess it would have been but anyways if you experience lag it's your
4:35 TV or monitor there is no external converter to add latency the HDMI
4:40 transmitter is topnotch and the settings menu has extensive color audio and scan
4:46 line tweaks for nerds and I know you
4:49 could save a buck by running the majority of these games on something
4:52 like a Raspberry p but if you're a purist this is reference quality which
4:57 is hard to achieve without lugging it a CRT around your house like I do the
5:03 anti- mini is objectively better than emulation and functionally better than
5:07 even the original console which brings us back to that SD card slot the entt
5:12 mini has been jailbroken their words not mine this
5:16 allows you to dump cartridges you own into ROM files directly on that SD card
5:21 and even play ROMs right off of it without using emulation you can use save
5:25 states and run save files though I will
5:28 judge you just a little you should even be able to use it to load additional
5:33 fpga cores then with controller and
5:36 cartridge adapters play other retro games on a similar Hardware level like
5:42 Sega Master System games Game Gear Kika Vision Game Boy Game Boy Color Atari
5:46 2600 Atari 7800 Intel Vision Odyssey 2 Adventure Vision supervision RCA Studio
5:51 2 and more there's like 20 plus of them
5:55 and then on top of that you've got an NSF player for Tunes a built-in Game
5:59 Genie if you want to screw around and an extensive settings menu that would have
6:05 merited its own entire video If I had my way but this video is near ending and it
6:10 is conclusion time there are many other
6:13 Solutions most of them cheaper some of them I've mentioned already others like
6:18 the frame Meister low latency analog to digital converter and upscaler that I
6:23 haven't and there are pros and cons to
6:26 all I don't plan to sell my frame Meister because it's still useful for
6:31 other consoles like the snash PS1 or even Xbox 360 and I also don't own this
6:36 this is Works frame meister's mind but this NT mini in my humble opinion is the
6:42 best way to play games that will be supported by kev's fpga core releases it
6:46 delivers everything from a reference to a highly customizable experience and
6:51 does it in a compact beautiful package that will look great in your man cave
6:56 just add friends and beer assuming you have any money left left over for beer
7:01 or friends freshbooks is the accounting
