welcome to something a little bit different here on lineus Tech tips we
0:03
had a unique opportunity to travel all the way to Germany to test drive the all
0:08
new BMW 1 Series so I guess that's
0:11
pretty much all there is to say other than come along for the
0:15
ride this is the allnew one series from
0:18
BMW a line of sporty economical hatchbacks that might surprise you
0:23
considering how much performance and Tech they've managed to cram into a car
0:27
of this class compared to previous model mod the appearance of the new lineup has
0:31
been significantly improved they've added an allnew front bumper design with
0:35
bigger intakes Slimmer LED headlights and classic BMW L-shaped LED tail lights
0:41
that weren't present on previous 1 series Vehicles it's available in a
0:45
variety of engine sizes ranging from 109 horsepower 3-cylinder all the way up to
0:50
a 326 horsepower turbocharged inline 6
0:53
rocket ship with manual and automatic gearboxes available powering either rear
0:58
wheel drive or BMW's all wheel X drive
1:01
now our car is equipped with an X Drive 120 diesel boasting the M sport package
1:06
which features this sharp looking estal blue color a sporty front clip 17-in
1:12
rims and an exclusive side trim but of
1:15
course if I spent this whole video blathering on about rims cornering
1:18
acceleration and breaking you'd probably think you clicked on the wrong Channel
1:23
and besides I'm comparing this to my heavily neglected 2003 Lambo anyway so
1:29
why don't I do a solid a favor and leave the car reviews to the car guys which a
1:34
was that too soon and hop on over to some of the top Tech features of our
1:39
loaded up one series
1:42
oh holy cow this thing has a lot of
1:45
buttons on it look at this you can set like eight different radio stations I
1:50
can do like six in mind I don't think that's the technology we're supposed to
1:53
be focused on
1:57
but first up for me was the nav system now obviously I'm in Fring Germany so I
2:03
relied pretty heavily on this bad boy the pre-loaded maps feature realtime
2:07
traffic on this like sick 3D view or a
2:10
more traditional view if you prefer that and some other sweet add-ons including
2:14
different route mapping for best fuel economy least amount of time or shortest
2:18
route realtime speed limit updates using a front-facing camera in the windshield
2:23
to tell you hey there's a construction zone or hey there's adverse weather
2:27
conditions and this one is cool background monitoring of topographical
2:31
information that allows adaptive downshifting of the automatic
2:34
transmission When approaching an uphill
2:37
and it can also work with the cruise control system to decrease speed when it
2:40
notices you're about to approach a corner with all that said all the smart
2:44
navigation features in the world won't completely stop you from being an idiot
2:48
behind the
2:51
wheel sorry but we can laugh about all
2:54
of that and show off some more features now because I clearly survived now to be
2:59
clear most most of the features we're showing off are powered by BMW's
3:02
optional connected Drive which uses a built-in 3G or LTE SIM card that sits in
3:08
a crash protected enclosure in the rear of the vehicle with the purchase of this
3:12
feature you get text messages SOS calls and an unlimited data plan with no
3:16
roaming from one European country to another and you can use that data plan
3:20
for other cool stuff as well like Wiki local a button you press to see cool
3:25
stuff to do nearby or getting real-time stock updates in the dash of your car if
3:29
you're into that sort of thing to expand BMW online's functionality you can plug
3:34
in a compatible phone in the armrest either with an adapter or USB cable run
3:39
the BMW connection assistant this stuff
3:42
just like voice calls through your car speakers does use your own phone so your
3:47
own mobile plan but also has some interesting third party apps internet
3:51
radio was one that let me feel a little more at home even though I was on the
3:55
other side of the world and audible can actually be integrated into your dash
3:59
and let you listen to your favorite audiobooks without fumbling around on
4:03
your phone while driving but if you're not that into audiobooks how about this
4:07
one there's a GoPro app that's sick Nick where's the GoPro we should totally set
4:11
it up I didn't bring
4:14
it all right okay
4:17
so this is a totally contrived
4:22
opportunity for us to use the concierge
4:25
service now Luke actually tried this
4:28
back at CES 2 years ago and said it was
4:31
pretty impressive he basically said they have to pretty much do whatever you ask
4:36
and they can't hang up on you so Luke like kept the guy on the phone forever
4:40
we're not going to do that but we're just going to place a call and we're
4:44
going to get someone to tell us where to buy a GoPro in Munich so let's see how
4:49
this goes welcome to BMW connected Drive
4:53
speaking with lius lson how I help you wow your name's
4:57
lius yes it is that is the coolest thing ever my name's lius I don't meet
5:04
many well then I'm happy to meet another
5:08
lus that is fantastic don't worry I have an actual reason for calling you um I'm
5:14
in I'm in Munich right now which I guess
5:17
you probably know and I need to buy a GoPro camera so
5:23
I need like a general electronics store and I was hoping that you could help me
5:28
find one and turn navigation system on to help me get
5:32
there okay let's see
5:36
here I would guess they have them at
5:40
media Mark are they open right now let's
5:44
see here's one and it actually seems to
5:48
be open oh awesome well it's actually not that far from your current position
5:53
either it's uh well air distance is uh
5:58
4.6 km great sending it to your car as we speak
6:02
as a destination so just let me know when it shows
6:06
up uh yep it looks like that has shown up for me so uh I guess I just press
6:12
okay yes uh it's either okay or start
6:16
guidance yeah I'll go with start guidance since there is no okay on the
6:20
screen yeah all right okay s is there something
6:25
else I can help you with at the moment no I think that's it thank you very much
6:28
lonus same to you lonus and if anything else
6:33
just call us back all right thank you very much his name's
6:39
lonus all right we got it so I guess now the uh the next step is to get this
6:44
mounted on the car and go find uh go find somewhere interesting to drive I
6:48
don't have my keys how am I going to open this package breaking all the
6:53
things I say that as if this is something new for me oh look at that
6:58
it's open already okay hold on starting
7:01
preview sweet it's upside down well I was holding it upside down so nice so
7:08
let's go preview our position for
7:16
it the preview goes away when you go into drive
7:20
but recording look at that Bippity bity
7:24
magic Cinderella nonsense all right
7:30
back to actual driving technology the adaptive cruise control or whatever BMW
7:34
calls it is one thing that blew my socks off there's basically a radar box in the
7:39
front of the car that allows you to set a speed up to 210 kmph then just forget
7:45
about it you'll automatically slow down and even stop if the car in front of you
7:49
decelerates and then stays stopped for less than 2
7:53
seconds I want to put my foot back down but I don't need to apparently
8:00
and last but not least the all new one series Parks
8:04
itself not just parallell but even into
8:08
a stall using an array of sensors on the
8:11
bumpers we've got the mode on and we're just kind of cruising along in the
8:15
parking lot and of course oh hey I was
8:18
going to say of course the time you go to demo it it doesn't work but it did
8:24
reverse slowly and break manually uh-huh
8:32
okay this is kind of tripping me out right
8:37
now you can see okay the sensors are
8:41
like yeah I don't like that but you're I mean you're the one doing this
8:47
so uh-huh yeah oh drive forward
8:53
slowly uh-huh yeah
9:11
secure vehicle against rolling away you got it
9:16
buddy so I guess that's pretty much it I want to thank the people of Germany for
9:20
being so hospitable and I want to thank you guys as well for watching the video
9:24
today like it if you liked it dislike it if you thought it just plain sucked
9:28
leave a comment if you have suggestions for future videos actually especially if
9:31
you have suggestions for future videos cuz this whole car technology thing is
9:36
coming pretty close together these days so uh it's probably not the last time
9:40
you're going to see this kind of thing from us and as always guys don't forget
9:44
to follow And subscribe and all that good stuff if you want to see more
9:47
videos from us because you don't want to do those things if you don't want to see
9:50
more videos from us because that would be pretty stupid thanks again for
9:53
watching and I'll see you guys next time
