0:00 I'm going to make all right guys welcome to the lineus tech tips live stream
0:04 today we had some bad luck and we end up wow we're 20 minutes late you know what
0:07 I think this is actually the latest we've been if you don't factor in um no
0:13 you can't do it in there you have to do it in the other tab if you don't factor in the times where we've started on time
0:18 but then we've been just destroyed by uh
0:22 by technical difficulties and we've had to come back so it's that top one you
0:26 have to edit it and copy paste in all the stuff otherwise it won't work yeah sometimes it's finicky it's like YouTube
0:30 right that's so stupid yeah oh speaking of YouTube we're g to be talking about
0:34 YouTube's paid subscriptions a little bit later on in the live stream and what
0:39 all of this means uh what what we think of it as as content creators who
0:44 predominantly work through YouTube but we're going to start with Summer
0:49 drivers come on I mean it's one thing
0:53 when it's like that first major like rainstorm and the roads are slick and
0:58 people are like oh I forget how to drive in the rain and it's like you know what
1:01 I understand when it's the first major snowfall of the year and some people
1:05 don't have their snow tires on yet you get caught by
1:08 surprise but people who get in accidents in the summer what are you doing and
1:15 like the first one we ran into today it was a minor like there you could see
1:19 some scratches that's it the bolts holding on the license plate in the
1:23 front left an indent in the rear bumper
1:26 of the car that was hit like that was the damage
1:30 this chick was stopped in the left lane
1:34 of a two-lane Highway okay with huge
1:37 shoulders huge shoulders on both sides
1:41 she's just stopped right there it's like
1:44 does your car work do your legs work get
1:49 off the road
1:52 move I mean we're not talking people who are in major accidents and you know you
1:56 need to have like investigation of what
2:00 happened and and all that other stuff that goes on we're not talking about
2:03 that we're talking about are you in a minor fender bender where like you're
2:07 fine get out of the way anyway so that
2:10 delayed us by what like 40 minutes this morning half an hour 40 minutes right
2:14 around there so ngie our inters like waiting for us at NC for about 40
2:18 minutes this morning because we had no idea because we don't know how Google
2:22 Maps works with traffic apparently um
2:26 didn't I didn't think to check it and then on the way back to
2:30 I mean this one was legitimately a pretty legitimate accident but we
2:35 probably lost what a good half hour 40 minutes on the way back at least so I
2:41 mean it's one of those things where for all of you commuters out there who
2:44 actually commute Monday to Friday every week I mean this is probably sort ofi
2:49 sound like I'm complaining pretty hard for how bad my situation is I commute
2:53 once a week but today was today was an
2:56 ugly commute beautiful weather I wish I'd been on the bike because then then a
3:00 I could have uh are you trying to change that I can't fig just change it back to
3:05 the old one and change it I can't figure out change it this way uh oh it is on
3:09 Old oh it is on the old one oh it's probably not logged in I don't think
3:12 there's anything we can do about it right now um but yeah I only commute
3:16 once a week so for all my right I wish I was on the bike today because the
3:20 weather was gorgeous and I could have just kind of gone around things relatively easily as well not that you
3:24 should do that although it's funny because it's a very North American thing
3:29 for you know bikes on the shoulder uh
3:32 bikes in between lanes like all that stuff stop it stop it pause it um it's a
3:37 very it's muted okay just just kill it
3:40 our internet bandwidth is like stupid um so it's a very North American thing for
3:44 that to be like like over in Europe bites are all over the place you see
3:49 people like on their scooters going down the sidewalk you see them like you know
3:54 parked on the sidewalk basically there's no room to walk I I think it's just one
3:58 of those things where we have the luxury of this space here so we like create
4:02 rules that don't work unless you just have like tons of space like I don't
4:07 know I uh but we have tons of space we do have tons of space I don't necessarily want people parking their
4:11 bikes on the sidewalk why they Park their bicycle on the sidewalk you take
4:15 up the entire your bike is a lot bigger than your bicycle not really yeah not
4:20 really yeah takes up a lot more space in a bicycle another thing too is I've
4:25 noticed in Europe it doesn't matter which way the traffic was supposed to be
4:29 moving on the street cars are just parked pointing like whichever which
4:32 direction like you'll just you'll be cruising along this way and then you'll just like go over to the other side to
4:36 park perfectly normal over there here you get a ticket for sure car facing the
4:41 wrong way even if you're uh parked the wrong way outside your house that I
4:45 didn't know about yep uh we had a car parked the wrong direction outside of
4:49 our house because he just like pulled out of the driveway and just went the wrong direction cuz he just had to move
4:52 his car out of the way cuz we're were it was my brother I think pretty sure it
4:56 was my brother and we we were working on stuff in the front of the house so we're all home and car is in going the wrong
5:00 way take it take it wow and in front of
5:04 your house in front of our house in The Boondocks pretty much in the boonies but
5:08 if you think someone must have like called a c but there's a car station
5:11 right there oh so they were just on their way somewhere probably going
5:15 somewhere B luck because they don't usually hang around our area nothing ever happens in our area right so
5:20 they're usually going somewhere oh that's a
5:23 shame anyway yeah they're they're pretty not so happy about that I don't remember
5:27 if it was my brother or who it was but someone outside my house when we were all there got a ticket
5:32 that's who I'm throwing my keyboard around don't worry about it that was
5:36 aggressive wow it managed to type
5:39 vgy in front of our news items VG y y so
5:45 that it's like you're almost trying to play tribes yeah who gets that reference no
5:51 one all right so thanks to all 1,200 of you who tuned in in spite of the fact
5:55 that we're late and we are very sorry about that I'm done making excuse for
6:00 the first six minutes of the live stream so let's move on to our first news item
6:05 of the week which is check this out so
6:09 our link is wccf something whatever I don't know
6:12 what this website's called they should really work on that um and apparently oh
6:18 oh apparently press enter right after it press enter right after it wait what
6:21 click at the end press enter bam there we go copy paste you have to install the
6:26 Google Drive app for whatever freaking reason so apparently there's a retailer
6:31 in China who is selling hasbell chips so you can see here's a big old pile of
6:36 Intel's new and improved box art
6:39 honestly I don't know about this box art I don't like it it's like um when I
6:45 first remember when I asked you if this was the legitimate release yeah yeah the
6:49 reason why I asked that was because I was like that box art looks too cheesy
6:52 for Intel like the top looks like Intel
6:55 you know with the futuristic looking microprocessor
6:59 looking icy looking thing here it's it's these two bits which they can't see but
7:03 you can move your most over that's a little bit but that still seems like their style at least at least it looks
7:08 kind of sciencey sciencey and robotic and all there's like a picture of that I
7:12 was kind of confused about and what is this then there's like I don't know this
7:16 it's I like the idea is it's like oh what you can create with Intel
7:20 technology and it's about like creation and creativity and that kind of good
7:25 stuff and back to the news thing so um
7:28 ta bow has listed has well tripped so you can see the full specs of what's
7:34 available so the only real difference this is interesting so the 4770 and 4770
7:39 K have the same maximum turbo frequency this time around also apparently all
7:44 these chips are using HD 4600 Graphics
7:47 which is um I haven't which which is good because last time around a lot of
7:52 the lower-end chips were using the lower end onboard Graphics which to me is
7:56 completely backwards because low when
7:59 customers are going to be using onboard Graphics not guys who are buying like 47
8:03 7ks with that said the integrated Graphics um can benefit performance
8:09 customers if you're using features like quicksync which will allow you to
8:12 transcode your video using the onboard GPU uh so anyway you can see all the
8:16 specs for the chips there you can also see pricing converted and then there's
8:21 some boards that are available as well so there's a couple biostar boards an
8:24 MSI board as well as an ASUS Sabertooth
8:28 Z87 board that is apparently available now if you're viewing this from China
8:32 which I suspect you're not at least you won't be watching a YouTube archive from
8:36 China I discovered that there's apparently a lot of videos in of me in
8:40 China yeah we we talked about this quite a while ago didn't did we talk about it
8:43 on the live stream I don't think so n so China's big video sharing site um I
8:48 don't remember what it's called but YouTube's blocked over there so it's not YouTube um but there's videos there's
8:54 like a video of me unboxing like an ASUS ITX board that has like 26,000 views on
8:59 I'm like what really what's going on who
9:03 are you yeah who who are all these people watching my videos that I didn't
9:08 even know about at all which is kind of crazy it's pretty cool I mean piracy is
9:12 cool I guess but but like at least my content's like good enough to Pirate
9:18 yeah and if they're not going to be able to see it anyways who cares it is what
9:22 it is like if someone was doing it here and getting 26,000 views I'd be like
9:26 okay that's kind of annoying now it's pretty normal for Intel CPUs to be
9:31 leaked and available ahead of launch but we're like 3 weeks plus away from launch
9:39 this is sort of early even for like
9:42 Intel chips to be and normally you see them available in like Taiwan or
9:47 something yeah you know where all those manufacturers are anyway so you know
9:51 like a couple Master cartons of motherboards fall off a truck somewhere
9:55 or someone lost their job because they leaked it and like like bad things
9:59 usually happen yeah whereas this is just it seems like nope it's just there
10:03 apparently tiny Tom Logan has his Z87 boards we haven't got ours yet but he's
10:08 got some Gigabyte ones we're hoping for some from ASUS pretty shortly we've had
10:12 chips for weeks but uh no motherboards for them
10:16 yet so anyway Haswell is uh is very much
10:19 Upon Us by the look of things so let's
10:22 uh we're going to move through a few of our news items this week pretty quickly
10:27 I think because we've got a lot of topics to to cover but then we're going
10:30 to do some Twitter Q&A a little bit afterwards so our next news item we're
10:35 actually I mean okay um Logan from Tech
10:38 Syndicate is not the first one to have
10:41 reported on the illumar room prototype
10:44 but we thought we'd just give him a shout out because he's a great guy we
10:47 hung out a little bit at ausa's event and this is some cool technology uh this
10:52 video has been out for a little while now but check this out if you search for
10:56 illum room there you go that's how spell it illumar room on YouTube it is a very
11:02 cool demo of the Xbox for the lack of
11:06 knowing what it's actually going to be called Xbox 720 nextg Xbox with a TV
11:12 okay so the TV is here and then a projector setup that aims around the TV
11:17 so sort of filling the room so it's meant to be um an augmented gaming
11:23 experience so um what I mean what do you think is the coolest thing it does and
11:26 then I'll say the coolest thing and then we'll go from there I like the explosion
11:29 thing because okay spreading the screen past your TV unless you have like in the
11:33 demo tell them that it spreads the screen past the TV okay yeah yeah sorry
11:37 I I was focusing on what I'm doing here I didn't actually listen to you the
11:40 whole time sorry I guess that's rude um
11:44 I actually have stuff I had to get done anyways it can spread stuff across the screen or it can allow like just certain
11:49 things to go out so like say explosions or flares of any kind or big streaks say
11:54 if you're driving really quickly you could have like brake lights going past
11:58 yep I mean it can it can highlight items and stuff that you can pick up so so if
12:02 there if there's like if you kill some dude and there's a pickup item and it glows and you walk past that glow could
12:07 be on the other side of the screen like outside of the screen like sitting on
12:10 your bookshelf yeah because the projector is projecting this so what I
12:14 like the most is the explosions and the item thing okay because I most likely am
12:20 going to have um like shelving units or whatever on the side of my TV so it's
12:24 going to be inconsistent and I know from seeing the demo that it's actually very
12:28 good at covering that up and making it still look good but I would still not
12:32 really like having the entire environment like the whole thing spread
12:36 out past my TV yeah for me it's a very um it's a very noticeable break yeah
12:41 exactly when you have a TV which is like a super high quality bright image and
12:45 then still good but not as high quality not nearly as good washed and like on
12:49 objects and stuff like that with that said the alumar room uses a connect type
12:53 of sensor to compensate for objects
12:56 because it knows that they're there so it still looks really good but not as
13:00 good as obviously a TV you can only compensate so much I mean projector
13:04 technology isn't magic I mean it's not like Steve Jobs came back invented the
13:08 projector and delivered it all to us on
13:11 like a cushion that's made
13:14 of um stop
13:19 okay no anyways my favorite one is explosions
13:23 and like glowy things because it'll be cool to see it just the context yeah
13:28 without the distraction I guess exactly and then it would still be cool if I
13:32 miss an item it's like oh okay so my thing would be um things like weather
13:37 effects and debris that's what I thought was the neatest thing about it so you
13:41 could be uh one of the demos they showed and the demo is real it's not composited
13:44 or anything like that so one of the demos they showed was like a racing game
13:48 where you could have like snow or you could have weather effects that are in
13:52 the room that go beyond just looking through that window that you could sort
13:56 of in your mind's eye you could pretend is the cockpit not only that but if you
14:00 have like things like grenades or if you had something like a piece of your car
14:04 goes flying the projector could let it bounce off a bookshelf and land on the
14:08 floor with the same game physics that are being used by the game itself now
14:14 with all someone says stop lonus you are
14:17 oh probably the Steve Jobs bit right um
14:21 so with all of that said what are the odds you'd set this up assuming it was
14:26 free someone handed you an XBox 7 20 a
14:29 TV and a projector is this what you would do with them to be honest yeah I
14:34 would I would like the explosion thing and I would like the item thing okay stuff like the
14:38 snow where would you put it it would take up so much
14:43 space I mean projector like short throw projector will help yeah and you don't
14:48 have to always have it there as well but
14:51 I mean it's yet another thing to turn on I mean if you got like a universal REM
14:55 app for a phone or something in the thing don't they have it on a table I
14:59 think this is going to be really Niche is sort of my point oh I'm sure like
15:03 super Niche I mean you look at how cheap projectors are now you can get a good
15:06 quality 1080p projector for less than a thousand bucks it's still cool though
15:10 because your no one buys them your one friend or your one friend's dad who
15:13 cares enough is going to have it set up and when you go to their house it's
15:16 going to be awesome whether or not you set it up I think it would be cool to
15:20 set up I would at least try okay I mean I've thought things were gimmicky that
15:26 ended up being a thing before I thought
15:29 the DS was ridiculous really I did
15:33 awesome I was like no no I mean when I heard about it when I got one and I was
15:36 like oh okay like I got it I was like okay I do use the other screen for some
15:41 stuff with that said I didn't look at it much yeah but I like that it was there I
15:46 I I thought it would be good just because of Pokemon the only thing I play on mobile devices anyways is Pokemon
15:51 like that's the only reason why I've ever bought game boys is because of Pokemon I'll end up playing like a few
15:55 other games but it's pretty much Pokemon of Tetris um so we'll see we'll see I
16:01 don't see myself setting this up even if even if someone handed me the projector
16:05 I'd probably just like go have like a projector room and like a TV room and
16:12 they would just be different if I somehow could like if I had either a
16:15 roof mount or if I had a table that was properly lined up I think I would set it
16:18 up even then though it's okay so there's the wire mess there's the sort of pain
16:23 in the butt with all the inputs and all that mess um I don't mind cable managing
16:27 things yeah see you you really really really really hate putting holes in your
16:31 wall oh I do but I would very properly and nicely cable manage it along the
16:37 roof okay well why don't we move on to our next topic so guys if you're not
16:40 already subscribed to Tech Syndicate raise the world with a zero instead of
16:44 an O I've you know I gave him heck about the name of his YouTube channel when uh
16:48 when I met up with him I was like dude what's what's up with that how are
16:51 people supposed to find your YouTube channel okay so raise r a z not r a i s
16:56 e raise the world
17:00 z.0 go subscribe to Logan if you aren't already and tell him his YouTube channel
17:03 name is dumb all right he does well enough yeah I know I know he does okay
17:08 but it's not because people remember the name of his channel I don't think I
17:12 remember maybe that's part of it it stands out so much it's ridiculous so
17:16 you're like whoa yeah but it's hard to tell someone about it true speaking of
17:20 things that are going to be hard to communicate this is the Claris
17:24 companion a tablet designed for seniors so senior
17:31 citizens I don't know if you guys have any senior citizens in your family I
17:34 sure do and I remember my grandpa signed
17:37 up for uh one of those telis promotions where you got if you signed up for a
17:42 fixed contract of I think it was three years you got a free Dell computer um so
17:48 that you could leverage the internet that you just paid them in advance sort
17:51 of like you booked in advance with them okay so this was back when a computer
17:55 anyone cared about um so this was the promo before they did the free notebook
18:00 which was before they did the free Wii
18:04 so this was a long time ago like back when Wei was a thing right Nintendo oh
18:09 in trouble anyway um I digress so the
18:12 free computer thing I remember sitting there trying to show him how to use a
18:17 mouse he'd get to like the edge of the table and be like what do I do now like
18:21 no like I kid you not like that's what it's like uh do you remember the guy who
18:25 works at NC who did a lot of the uh the it admin he used to teach a class back
18:29 in the 80s on using the computer and the
18:33 mouse was very Sim like everyone was like that back then apparently like he
18:36 he put together the most ridiculous possible curriculum he taught it at UBC
18:41 wow yeah and people came in and paid good money to take this course on like
18:45 not having the mouse like fall off the desk as you got to the edge like kid you
18:48 not anyway so my grandpa was like that I can't even imagine after that experience
18:54 trying to put a tablet in front of him so the Claris companion attempts and I'm
18:59 not going to say they've achieved it because I haven't had my hands on one but attempts to make it friendly for
19:03 seniors so it uses a bamboo wooden design that's designed get this guys to
19:09 look kind of like an old school CRT TV
19:13 set with like a wooden frame and like the speakers at the front and yeah and
19:16 the speakers at the front see the speakers at the at the bottom on the front right there Amplified speakers
19:22 with huge ginormous fonts optimized for
19:25 senior citizens it only has it doesn't even say what OS it runs like I actually
19:30 don't know what OS it is it's probably an insanely modified version of Android
19:34 like unrecognizable super cut down unrecognizable there's like five buttons
19:38 on the front and they're things like pill schedule like call daughter like
19:44 like that's pretty much all it does uh it's expected to have a cellular data
19:50 connection and they have a subscription service that depending how much you pay
19:54 for the Claris companion up front the subscription is cheaper the more you pay
19:58 for it up front there's even a lifetime option which is $1,000 and I did the
20:03 math and apparently the company is expecting the old people to live for
20:07 like another year or two based on the lifetime subscription
20:11 and I was like oh my goodness that's kind of a sad thought because you'd never offer a lifetime subscription for
20:16 a cellular service to someone in their 20s for a
20:20 thousand bucks I should buy one just to
20:24 see how long they honor my lifetime subscription guys if you want me to do a
20:27 Kickstarter to spend $1,000 on a Claris
20:31 companion to get a lifetime
20:35 subscription we're not doing that we're that would be horrible we're like
20:40 actually not doing that you would never ever use it and you probably can't
20:43 transfer your cellary service so like here's this crap crap tablet that you
20:48 can use for the rest of your life yeah so it has easy grip sides and I think
20:52 we're pretty much done talking about it built-in charger for connector for
20:56 eliminating fussy cables amplified speaker ERS and huge fonts and so anyway
21:01 yeah I thought that was sort of interesting they they actually reached out to me that's where I got this news
21:05 item from they were like do you want to talk about this tablet I'm like yeah sure I guess also want to clarify I
21:10 didn't mean crap is in like it's a bad tablet I meant crap is in know like the
21:14 OS being lock we the the OS being locked down in 40 years it's not going to be
21:19 the fastest thing that's what I meant by a crap tablet but it'll be made of wood
21:23 bamboo and it will therefore be still working probably maybe wood won't exist
21:26 anymore yeah that's true it could be a collector's I bet it is a collector's item by that
21:31 by that point the first Bamboo tablet we're not talking Wacom Bamboo tablet
21:36 we're talking a bamboo tablet here folks
21:40 now uh let me tell you this is the best gosh darn Bamboo tablet that I ever done
21:44 seen you should go ahead and for only $1,000 you get a lifetime
21:50 subscription it's like I I totally picture this on QVC
21:55 right let me tell you old folks this right here let you keep in touch with
21:59 your done gosh darn dare grandkids like they should advertise on QVC seriously I
22:04 I think they would actually sell a fair number cuz it's not a bad idea no it's
22:07 not not at all it's just I'm not the target market no I'm not either but it
22:10 is not a bad idea so I poke fun at it a little bit my grandpa's not the target audience either he tries to be techsavvy
22:15 but I know quite a few older people that would just don't want to have anything
22:18 to do with it if they can just press a few buttons they're good and done you know what it's funny because my mom
22:22 thinks she's techsavvy but if I handed her that she probably couldn't figure it out oh my mom could figure that out yeah
22:26 my mom doesn't watch the live stream though so so your mom watches which is I know why you're saying she'd be able
22:30 toig no she could figure that out Slick's mom watches the live stream for
22:33 those of you who don't know which is I think absolutely
22:37 awesome um okay why don't we do a little bit of Twitter Q&A she's getting oh I
22:41 wish I had a picture of it my mom's getting a super boss mechanical keyboard
22:45 so well it's okay we'll unbox it for sure yeah okay just tuned in is that
22:48 your new office no we're moving to the new place in about three weeks we were
22:52 filming a video and kind of took over the other area yeah we were filming the
22:56 build guide for uh the Intel spawn oned build guide that we have upcoming so the
23:01 entire garage has been torn apart our height adjustable table is where our
23:04 normal table is this table is in our fastest possible set and our microphone
23:10 is here so yeah like chair is here this
23:13 is actually this white wall back here is the set for fastest possible on Tech
23:17 quickie yeah so there you go um are you
23:21 y oap are not ready for tablets at least
23:24 they can hit what they see though my grandparents just got Broadband she is
23:28 not ready for this fair enough
23:31 James hello to South Africa I tried out
23:35 a few mechanical keyboards at Micro Center Blues are my favorite switches
23:38 top blue switch keyboards honestly any blue switch keyboard is hard to go wrong
23:42 pretty much if they're making a blue switch keyboard they're probably have pretty good build qualities at this
23:46 point in time Fair bit of chat in the Forum there was a there was a what's
23:50 your favorite switch thread a lot of people are validating Corsair stance
23:54 that Reds are for gaming yeah saying that they get they get hand fatigue
23:58 finger fatigue from gaming on blues or Browns anything with tactile feedback
24:02 weird I've never gamed for that long so I have I want greens which are heavier
24:07 okay well my hands aren't going to get fatigued it's just not going to happen
24:11 from pressing pressing a key switch down no maybe that's a thing it's just not a
24:16 thing with me you can't really comment on future products guys I muted The Big
24:20 Bang Theory to watch you that's good because Big Bang Theory has a laugh
24:24 track and uh maybe we should add one
24:29 I tried to get off screen for that but I don't think it worked you did good thanks well we should add a laugh track
24:33 to our uh our live stream just whenever things are not funny yeah we'll be like
24:40 EA and there'll be like that one chick in the laugh track that's
24:45 like we should record our own terrible laugh track we should get a whole bunch
24:50 of people we know and record our own you know what's funny because like half the time we're having conversations off
24:55 camera about how to make the live stream like more professional and like more
24:58 like an actual show and then when we actually like get down to it what we're
25:02 thinking of doing recording our own laugh it's all like the worst possible
25:07 ideas you could possibly have for a show like we could make a show called all the
25:12 things that shows shouldn't be and then yeah be all our ideas pretty much be
25:16 this one yeah you're
25:19 late your time changes all the time your
25:22 set changes all the time topics are not usually ready hey we have topics like
25:27 pretty darn right we did good this week we did well it helps that I Was
25:31 preparing them in the car for like an hour and a half as we drove back from
25:35 NCIX so uh building a new Intel PC soon is unreleased product a better than
25:40 unreleased product b or dude come on
25:44 what am I supposed to say we don't know yet my friend wants to get a new
25:48 graphics card to play the latest games at 1920 by 1080 for example Battlefield
25:51 3 What GPU budget is $460 first of all
25:55 what kind of a budget is $460 that's odd
25:58 specific for how high it is yeah it's like it's one thing if people are like
26:01 yeah I have $75 to spend you kind of go okay
26:06 460 could he spare another 23 cents
26:09 anyway um at that price point buy yourself a 7850
26:14 or honestly like isn't 70 or 7850 sorry
26:18 7950 kind of confused when you is 7950
26:21 just the card to buy it's crushing I don't like every game test we
26:26 do 7950 just wins and you know what it's funny because the comments on the latest
26:31 one oh you guys are always testing AMD gaming evolved titles not testing any
26:36 Invidia titles it's like AMD is giving away like eight games with the 7990 we
26:41 get games when they're giving away with cards a lot of the time yes and NVIDIA
26:46 is giving away one game right now we will test Metro last Light and we will
26:50 test last Light definitely that will we will but it's like we can't do anything
26:53 about the fact that every hot title right now is a gaming evolved title and
26:57 it's funny because the same thing happened not that long ago when every
27:01 title was a way it's meant to be played title oh lus you don't test any gaming
27:04 of all yeah try releasing one yeah yeah
27:08 anyway we will test met last I'm all worked up today you are stressed out but
27:14 in in that bracket they have 660 Ti and our 660 Ti was the like the original
27:19 beast power Edition one yes so you would think that that card should be able to
27:25 run with it but like be like golden sample that category but it's the 7950
27:31 just and like 79 70 7970 doesn't really
27:35 perform that much better especially when you overclock them both which you should
27:38 that yeah that jump right there is an interesting So speaking of your friend
27:42 wanting to play Battlefield 3
27:47 um he can't very likely he can't yeah
27:51 right now maybe if he wants to enjoy the single player campaign which is single
27:55 player even working you have to go through Battle Log to launch campaign
27:59 okay so tell them what's going on cuz they don't know I haven't read this
28:02 entire article but from what I heard it's not in here yeah awesome talk about
28:06 it I'm just going to go off the top of my head then what I think is happening because I read a little bit is that um I
28:12 don't know if it's just EA as a whole or it's like battle um origin section or if
28:18 it's just Battlefield 3 section I don't know how this is exactly work should be
28:21 going down but a lot of people I don't know if it's everyone I'm pretty sure
28:24 it's just a lot of people can't actually connect to Battlefield 3 so connection
28:29 to EA servers blah blah blah error one so EA's response is that there's been it
28:34 sounds like there's been some kind of a targeted attack on their servers that's
28:38 been holding them down for what about a week now a really long time people are
28:41 not happy no and so what my theory is
28:45 that all the guys who were attacking our Forum are attacking EA
28:53 now uh it's my
28:56 theory yeah cuz that it's about yeah
28:59 yeah it's about a week it's about a week since we've had like serious downtime uh
29:03 speaking of the Forum guys if you are not members of the linest tech tips.com
29:08 Forum go sign up right now everyone go
29:12 right now yeah everyone go right now and sign up and we're going to see how she
29:15 handles it even if you're even if you are already signed up go and just like
29:19 hang out let's have a let's have a bro session on the forums bro session on the
29:24 Forum everyone go hang hang out go to General post about what's going on
29:28 yeah let's just see what happens cuz we're we're kind of curious we have made
29:33 some serious upgrades to the infrastructure that's going on so to put
29:37 this in context since January we have gone from hosting the Forum on a weak
29:42 sauce computer at my house like under my desk yeah to hosting on a beast computer
29:49 with six cores of CPU and 48 gigs of RAM
29:53 at NC to outgrowing that to hosting it
29:56 at a data center to outgrowing that to changing our
30:00 software and everything just generally getting better and uh and still hosting
30:06 it at a data center with like a bajillion CPU cores and all the good
30:10 things that are going on so things are seriously uh going well for the Forum so
30:16 many people are joining it's honestly like would you say anecdotally in terms
30:21 of typing a question and expecting to get an answer in a timely manner it's
30:25 the best Forum you've ever been on probably for me because I've had
30:28 problems in the past where if I have a difficult enough question I don't even
30:31 bother ask because I'm like by the time I get a proper answer to this I probably
30:35 will have figured it out that or if you have a super simple question that you're
30:38 afraid to ask you get flamed
30:41 and flam everything's bad just destroyed and I don't see any of that on this
30:46 forum not flaming we've had a few random
30:49 threads while I've seen the answer not be almost immediate a few few yeah a few
30:54 not that many but a few but guys if you have a tech question I have a lot of
30:59 people still sending me like private messages on YouTube or Facebook messages
31:03 guys I can't I get hundreds of messages
31:07 a day it's too much for me and I'm a very small fraction of how much he gets
31:13 I mean it's one of those things where it's like I love you guys and I want to answer every question and I read them
31:17 all because it gives me ideas for making videos but it's one of those things
31:21 where either I can be ask geves like ask
31:25 lin.com you type in an answer and I just sit chain to a computer desk and reply
31:29 to all the questions or I can be L as
31:32 Tech tips the guy who actually makes videos and uh you can watch videos about
31:36 the things that are good to do with uh the tech industry so yeah those are the
31:42 those are pretty much the two options um here so let's have a look
31:46 hasn't slown down at all we have 1,65 users on right now 513 members 544
31:52 guests you got y'all got nothing so anyway you tried you tried so guys do
31:58 hang out on the Forum we're we're thinking of issuing a challenge we
32:02 should do a video about it it's it's coming soon coming soon okay okay but
32:07 soon there'll be so if you guys are early to this then you'll be that much
32:11 awesomer but we're going to be issuing the make Linus Tech tips Forum your
32:15 homepage challenge we have we have a few interesting changes that we want to do
32:19 to it that will um make it easier to have it as your homepage Y which and so
32:25 so yeah so the the places that are most active guys General discussion news is
32:29 Super Active honestly I started getting most of my news from lus Tech tips Forum
32:33 it's pretty cool it's kind of awesome great Community contributions and news
32:38 guys so like if you're there you're you're actually maybe not up to the
32:42 minute but you're kind of up to the hour and you don't have to deal with the
32:45 terrible site design on reddit.com wow I'm on a roll here taking
32:50 shots at EA taking shots I bet Reddit just like destroys me now yeah I don't
32:55 think Reddit site design is terrible what it's efficient the community There
32:59 Is Awesome the site design not as awesome efficient okay why don't we
33:04 agree that the community is awesome and the site design is at least this far
33:08 away from the community's awesomeness level it's very efficient the reason why
33:12 dig fell behind was because dig changed too many things and it was no longer
33:15 efficient it was messy okay I agree that it's hard to change something about a
33:19 hyper popular site what would you change about Reddit it's so efficient the whole
33:23 thing is about the front page and it's very very very efficient everything is
33:27 laid out very nicely and cleanly okay but what about finding stuff that isn't
33:30 on the front page the search function actually works really well and if you go
33:34 to a sub form again very clean okay deteriorate as a new user on Reddit
33:39 though I couldn't figure out what any of the subreddits were there's like a
33:42 bajillion subreddits that have seemingly zero
33:46 documentation that's not good site design look on the right yeah there's
33:50 some stuff there but there's how many aren't there well that's not site design
33:55 that's the person who created the subreddit putting in less
34:00 information okay well why don't we just agree to disagree on this one all right
34:04 I don't think the site design is actually that bad it's not interesting
34:07 it's not that pretty but it's very efficient and it's very good at doing
34:11 what it tries to do which is be efficient speaking of Reddit found a
34:14 fantastic post on Reddit about the US
34:17 Banning the blueprints for a 3D printable gun yeah good
34:25 luck if someone wants that to be online that will be
34:29 online like I I don't know you dumb bro
34:33 I that's what he's trying to do I was like I have no idea what this person is
34:37 doing anyways yeah if someone wants that to be online that'll be online it'll be
34:41 somewhere okay the entire the entire Reddit thread is just like people being
34:47 like I didn't even hear about this I downloaded it because I can because they
34:51 told me not to like you know what that's
34:54 how the internet works I mean remember the Anarchist Cookbook
34:58 yeah that's everywhere it's like it's like one of those things where it's like
35:03 how hard was it to get a copy of it you you ban it and you make it more popular
35:06 yes the only reason why people okay not necessarily the only reason why people
35:10 heard about this especially but the only reason why people hear about certain
35:13 things is because they get banned I did not hear about the Anarchist Cookbook
35:17 until they banned it and I was like oh that's kind of neat I wonder if I can
35:20 find the oh there it is right there and there and there and
35:25 there and there and and on everyone's USB thumb drive at school at the time
35:30 because it was like it was one of those things where it's like I didn't go to school with anyone who was going to blow
35:34 anything up no it was just idle curiosity because they banned it why was
35:38 this banned I want to know what's in here that's that bad yeah it's like and
35:42 we're not promoting Anarchy and I'm not actually even saying necessarily that I
35:46 think 3D printed guns are the greatest thing ever CU I don't all we're saying
35:51 is Banning things won't work on the
35:54 internet D it's like uh what was uh what
35:57 was Boll saying on the way on the way back um that Beyonce's uh PR was trying
36:04 to get all like non flattering images of her off the internet removed from the
36:08 Internet it's like okay a Beyonce is not
36:11 that attractive like so many stars it's
36:14 all about getting the right angle with the right makeup and the right lighting
36:17 it actually doesn't have a whole lot to do and the right four days worth of
36:21 Photoshop and there yes exactly there's a whole lot of that going on don't kid
36:26 yourself um and there's yeah it's like you can't
36:31 remove like pictures from the internet so it's going as far as like uh pictures
36:36 of her while she's singing and on stage and doesn't look good and trying to get
36:39 them removed like not going to work dude
36:43 yeah someone needs to explain the internet to Beyonce as well if beon
36:47 Beyonce if you're watching that's not how the internet works by the way you
36:50 have a lot of money we can sit here and
36:54 explain how the internet works yeah a consultancy yeah we'll take all that
36:58 money try and buy EA and turn it into a successful company okay so to start with
37:02 the Internet is a series of
37:05 tubes you know that reference just never gets old I know I love it guys if you
37:10 haven't seen it it's some US senator or something this the subtitle for our
37:15 networking forum is a series of Tu is it really that's almost as good as the
37:20 troubleshooting Forum I had someone specifically send me a tweet saying how
37:24 much they loved the subtitle of our of our trouble shooting forum it's help I
37:29 need somebody help does do we have not just anybody
37:34 not just anybody yeah okay I added that so it was more easily recognizable there
37:38 we go uh okay so moving on to our uh our
37:42 first Community news item because pretty much all of the news items are Community
37:45 news items this week check this shiz out
37:49 so AMD has gone full 360 here and I
37:54 actually meant 360 you know how half the time people say 360 they actually mean
37:58 180 yeah how many I've done it yeah it's
38:03 like I turned around 360° on that
38:06 issue oh so you have the same
38:10 stance yeah no no not actually that they've done a 360 here so initially um
38:15 their next Generation products were going to be 8,000 series they were going
38:18 to be released in 2013 then they came out and said no new gpus in
38:24 2013 then they went and released 7790
38:28 like what which is is a 7,000 series by
38:32 name but not much more than that it's a different architecture it has been
38:36 tweaked somewhat um so then there was
38:40 that and then there's the 7990 which isn't a new GPU technically n but is a
38:45 new card so they released that which we still they say no new gpus I believe
38:50 they did say no new gpus okay so$ 7990 doesn't technically break it but then
38:54 check this out so there's a couple references this was submitted by tib I
39:00 don't know how he wants us to pronounce that or she not sure um so there's a
39:05 couple of of references here but basically the 8,000 series for desktops
39:09 might be skipped entirely and that's not the first time this kind of thing has
39:13 happened NVIDIA didn't do a GTX 300 series yeah that was so confusing that
39:18 was weird um you know they they changed naming schemes all the time AMD went
39:23 from x800 to x1800 if I recall correctly
39:28 um which was like okay I guess so they skipped like 10 Generations there um so
39:35 so apparently they're thinking of skipping 8,000 series for desktop
39:38 there's already 8,000 series for notebooks but they are purely rebrands
39:42 okay and apparently the allnew 9000 Series might be released in December
39:46 2013 might it'll be manufactured at 20 nanometer according to the rumors this
39:50 is all allegedly and so there should be less power consumption and heat output
39:53 more performance per watt and it'll be paired with a new architecture so what
39:57 this could mean allegedly is that we're getting not only a die shrink but also
40:02 an architecture change at the same time big risk potentially big reward they've
40:07 certainly had a long time to work on it yeah in fact internally they may have
40:11 already finished an 8000 series design which might have been a die shrunk 7,000
40:18 series and then just decided not to bother because maybe it didn't perform
40:22 that much better with the die shrink you saw what happened with Intel and their
40:26 latest die shrink where they're not actually getting a whole lot more clock
40:29 speed out of the chips uh they're saving on power consumption but they're not
40:33 necessarily getting a ton more performance um we saw this with Sandy
40:36 bridge to Ivy Bridge could have been that they we just went okay let's just not do this let's wait and you look it's
40:42 been almost two full graphics card develop uh release Cycles maybe we'll
40:47 just do 9,000 Series so maybe that's what's happening this is all allegedly
40:50 supposedly according to rumor I know nothing for sure about this if I did I
40:54 would not be talking about it just to inter really quickly um about that
40:58 Battlefield 3 being offline thing that I was talking about earlier for anyone who
41:02 wants more information about that because I was not conclusive I just tweeted out the URL link that I had for
41:06 it so check that out um AMD's Chief technology architect Jim Keller uh
41:11 apparently said blah blah blah sea Islands encompasses the PS4 chip as well
41:15 as new mobile chips and bond air GPU found in the 7790 I bring this up
41:19 because it shows people inside AMD continue to work hard long hours to deliver great products etc etc amongst
41:25 the turmoil shown in the Press so the next generation is coming this year and
41:29 shaping up nicely is what he says when you name products after places it leads
41:33 to interesting thoughts about where to hold the events surrounding the namesake
41:37 product it would be really cool if they did an event on a volcanic island it'd
41:41 be a real shame if all their Engineers died in a volcano so AMD if anyone's watching
41:46 maybe just do it somewhere else that's that that would be pretty Beast though
41:50 got to take some risk take some risk yeah don't worry about it um so anyway
41:54 that's really cool news I mean AMD did you see that they
41:58 stock actually I haven't looked at it since then maybe it's gone down a bit
42:01 but but still boom is it still exploding so no I'm saying oh but still it went
42:06 boom went up a lot they seem to be firing on at least one cylinder now
42:10 which is more than they were before they were it was when we not even that long
42:14 ago while we had this live stream running it was pretty scary looking
42:18 pretty dire there a few live streams where we almost hinted to like oh God
42:21 they've got all the game devs on board now with the graphics cards they've got
42:25 releases like coming when it looked like they weren't going to release anything
42:29 uh yeah very very exciting stuff so I'm really stoked to check out 9,000 Series
42:33 hopefully we get one prior to launch so we can bring you guys some launch content that didn't happen with 7990 or
42:40 7790 still waiting for AMD's trying actually there are guys over there that
42:45 are trying to get us the allocation so we can show you guys this cool stuff
42:48 right when it comes out uh let's move on to our next one which is not a cracket
42:55 ea
42:58 and boom I'm going to need oh
43:04 okay no bad language on the uh as a huge
43:09 lover of the Assassin's Creed series okay well uh so this was posted without
43:13 probably too much helpful information by ixie yourf face on the forum for that
43:18 matter oh crap I don't think I uh I don't think I called out our oh yeah I
43:22 know I did um but there you go Assassin's Creed
43:26 creator and designer fired allegedly by
43:30 Ubisoft so there's a bit more to the story than that and uh Patrice has said
43:36 that they fired him Ubisoft has said they parted ways due to a difference in
43:42 Creative direction or some some corporate speak something along those
43:45 lines so he designed and created the
43:49 Assassin's Creed franchise which is the favorite gaming franchise of at least
43:53 one of the people in this room it's it it ties TI for Elder
43:58 Scrolls with Elder Scrolls okay okay so there's that
44:03 um however so his his statement has been
44:07 they fired him unjustly uh he's only been back for two
44:10 months because he left back in 2010 to go to THQ and then he's been back for a couple
44:15 months we we're not sure what he was working on um forbes's article sort of
44:20 speculated that maybe he had a disagreement with the yearly release
44:23 cycle proposed for Assassin's Creed I think we've talked about that on the live stream before uh we talked uh I
44:28 don't know if it was for Assassin's Creed okay anyway yearly release Cycles
44:32 is like oh no yeah we didn't talk about it for Assassin's Creed I mean that's insane it's like could you be any more
44:37 public about we're just going to milk this I don't mind if they come quickly
44:42 and they're good but fixing release Cycles is NE I hate that fixing dates
44:47 like release it when it's done bring it on like throw more people at the problem
44:51 make it fast make it awesome yeah but if there's a problem like don't do a fixed
44:56 date please don't do a fixed date un the game and then release it so there's some
45:01 speculation maybe he didn't like that there's some speculation that he was actually working on completely different
45:05 things internally and it has nothing to do with that but one way or another he
45:09 came out and made a statement that went ah shoot I forget his wording and I don't have that on there but something
45:13 along the lines of I'll defend myself my team and my game and there will be some
45:19 kind of action but no one really knows what it is up till now so uh so there
45:23 you go very very interesting so that's out of Ubisoft Montreal all so my uh my
45:28 Canadian my Canadian Bros are got some
45:32 sort of stuff to figure out over
45:36 there uh why don't we do a little bit of Twitter Q&A sure sorry guys I know
45:39 Twitter Q&A is just sort of random but
45:42 uh it is what it is so there you go and random is what it is hey Ryan hi Ryan uh
45:48 they also fired the producer Assassin's Creed okay so it wasn't just one person
45:52 that's interesting plateauing a bit from the increases thank you James
45:57 I am doing a 32 crucial M4 raid one
46:00 array no that's a terrible idea with three or four raid cards 48 ssds maybe
46:05 in the future you do not need a raid one array with ssds let me tell you that
46:10 much if you're using four high performance raid cards which I'm
46:14 assuming you are you will actually probably do just as well with something
46:18 like even a raid six because you'll be able to do massive random performance
46:23 with an array like that I mean honestly you don't even probably need that many
46:26 any ssds like to to to max out the
46:30 performance you could probably even go four ssds per card or something along
46:35 those lines like I'm really interested what his use Cas is for this yeah what the heck is this even for you if you
46:39 need raid one grade reliability why are you using consumer ssds that's something
46:44 you should be asking yourself especially when he's buying 40 48 ssds maybe in the
46:50 future okay I heard I heard a rumor that there's an Enterprise grade SSD coming
46:53 that's going to be very reasonably priced from not crucial can't say who it
46:57 is but should be coming soon cool maybe kind of like an Enthusiast sort of
47:01 diamond in the rough skew cool I'm going to sleep now 2 amm in the Netherlands
47:06 good night Bart good night Bart what games are you guys looking forward to
47:10 why do we buy all this Hardware what game are you looking forward to besides
47:13 blood dragon which you haven't played yet no but it's out so I can't really
47:17 look you can look forward to it I guess I can I played a little bit it's
47:20 freaking awesome except that it's said in the past so I'm looking forward to
47:25 2007 it's back to the future all over
47:30 again um well other SCH is online but
47:33 I'm hesitantly looking forward to that because of some of the problems that
47:37 we're had I'm going to try and not talk about this as much as I possibly can um
47:41 Black Flag so we've gone through the my two favorite series which we already talked about Assassin's Creed Black Flag
47:46 it's be like pirate version of Assassin's Creed they're all Pirates
47:50 they're all Pirates okay I thought you pirated you hear about the piracy game
47:55 of piracy or or like it was the game about being a Game Dev it was The Game
47:59 Dev and if you pirated it they pirated your game in the game so you could never
48:03 be a successful game developer if you pired the game that was brilliant yeah
48:07 and so there was all these people complaining on the forums about this it
48:10 was it was an indie game and he released all the stats so he had a non-personally
48:16 identifiable like tracker in the game that reported back C phoned home and let
48:20 him know if it was a pirated copy or a real copy and uh it was some massive
48:25 percentage of of the games that were being played were pirated and then what
48:28 happened is it was like Game Dev Tycoon kind of thing like Game Dev Sim and so
48:33 people would reach a point where their company would get to this size and then
48:37 they'd never be profitable because everyone would pirate their game so they were posting on the forums I can't
48:41 figure out how to get past this part like this is ridiculous everyone just
48:44 Pirates my game I can't be successful yeah and then the irony was like that
48:49 that guy's having trouble making ends meat because he can't be successful
48:52 because everyone pirates because you pirated his game anyway
48:57 jerk so pirate version of Assassin's Creed you think that's frustrating in
49:00 the game that's frustrating in real life yeah let me tell you as someone trying
49:03 to run their own business these days like the amount of stress that you go
49:08 through without people stealing your work yeah
49:11 is a lot um uh another thing that I'm really
49:17 really looking forward to is a uh are you really still talking about this sequel of Hotline Miami oh okay you
49:21 haven't played that either no it's amazing uh do you know anything about
49:26 the razor oroboros disappearing
49:31 no no okay plan on playing games 670
49:35 power Edition or should I get the 7950 you know what either of them is a great
49:38 choice 7950 has had the edge lately in our testing particularly once
49:43 overclocked uh YOLO swag for G ofh Jesus is the new official
49:50 Liv no it isn't first time watching live yay hi
49:55 Ivan uh tuning in tonight my boyfriend
49:58 watches you guys hi Elizabeth and boyfriend that was the Ryan call out you
50:02 should EA it's a great investment not just not just something
50:07 to do with is EA a verb now I don't know I'm
50:14 just going to EA that it could mean anything release it ahead of schedule
50:19 there won't be any support you won't be able to actually access it I'm going to run it into the ground I'm going EA it
50:24 if I'm not done something I can just submit a corrupted file and be like oh
50:27 it's just E8 don't wor it don't worry about
50:31 it we can I suspect this and I'll be like uh I'm not commenting so if anyone
50:36 from EA is watching guys we do need sponsors for the show come on
50:42 down why don't we move on to our next topic uh ah this this is very
50:48 interesting so this is another uh Forum submitted topic so check this out guys
50:54 yeah I said I said this so remember when power supplies so this is
50:59 from list fiser list
51:03 fisar yeah it's from Norway so dude you're cool we love you we love Norway
51:07 but we don't we don't get your name um so list Fisker from Norway says has well
51:12 compatibility with cors their power supplies has been released which leads
51:16 us to an interesting topic so most power supplies are ready to go with Haswell
51:21 some are still to be confirmed and might need some tweaks to function um silver
51:26 Stone has come out and said all of theirs are working uh seic I believe has
51:29 a compatibility list as well and there's a good reason for this now back when I
51:34 was getting into computers a 350 smart blue that came with the antec land booy
51:39 was a pretty good power supply and if you really wanted you could get yourself
51:43 a true blue and that might be a 430 or even a 480 watt fancy but then all of a
51:50 sudden after that it was this ARM and before that it was like you know
51:53 anywhere from 150 to sort of 250 watt like there was this progression and then
51:58 after that it becames arms race to bigger wattages ocz changed the game
52:03 with the Power Stream 520 watt there was
52:07 also a Power Stream 600 watt but it had two 12vt rails which meant that with SLI
52:11 configuration sometimes it didn't work so the 520 watt was the really well
52:16 regged one after that Ultra had the
52:20 1300 watt power supply it was like an external thing or maybe that was an
52:23 ultra I remember there was one extern I remember that though yeah actually
52:27 needed two plugs in it and for it to even output the maximum power you had to
52:31 have it hooked up to two circuits in your house if you were in North America
52:35 I remember seeing build Logs with it and just be like what even is that what are
52:39 you doing and then case manufacturers released cases that accepted two power
52:44 supplies so Silverstone tj7 my case it's
52:47 like I used the extra space for radiators but you could put 2,000 watt
52:52 Silverstone Striders in there you could have 2,000 watts of power anyway uh so
52:57 it got kind of ridiculous for a bit with wattage then the efficiency race came 80
53:02 plus 80 plus bronze 80 plus silver gold Platinum plutonium I don't want a
53:07 plutonium power titanium yeah it's titanium I don't know who cares um so
53:11 the point is efficiency became a big thing but now now what it might be all
53:15 about and the way 80 plus works is that it's actually there is no rating for how
53:20 efficient the power supplyer has to be below 20% load and what's funny is any
53:25 thousand watt power supply isn't going to touch 20% load might not even break
53:30 10% load with a modern system running a Haswell CPU and the Next Generation
53:34 graphics card because they're getting so good at turning down the power at idles
53:38 so when you're browsing the web your computer probably doesn't suck 100 Watts
53:41 from the wall so all of a sudden Haswell
53:44 particularly with its sleep States is going to be much more sensitive to how
53:49 the power supply performs at extremely low loads then it's going to be to how
53:54 it performs at high loads which is what 80 plus has been all about so I don't
53:58 know how this is going to work because right now manufacturers are basically
54:02 just putting like a Haswell ready certification on it it was kind of like
54:05 the old P4 ready where it had that connector and it had the the beef or
54:09 12volt rail because those CPUs were drawing so much power and it was
54:13 gamechanging now they're drawing so little power you're going to need a
54:16 highquality power supply but not the same way you did before where it's like
54:20 massive wattage massive efficiency at high loads you're going to want massive
54:25 efficiency and great performance with low Ripple and low noise at very low
54:30 power consumption I wonder if this means we're going to see a lot of like maybe
54:34 smaller in wattage and size because of
54:37 the smaller cases the smaller Ms more passive more passive more smaller in
54:42 size more smaller in wattage but very feature power supplies things like what
54:47 Corsair is implementing with their axi Series where you've got you know voltage
54:52 monitoring and temperature monitoring and more like more like bringing more
54:55 value to the power supply as opposed to figuring out how to stuff more watts in
54:59 it so to speak yeah I know that's not actually how power works you don't stuff
55:04 more watts and something is Boll over there is he like working oh he's
55:08 probably on his own workstation that would make way more sense that makes way more sense yeah why did he even set up
55:13 diesels I think he had to get some stuff off the computer makes sense see this is
55:18 why I pay people to think for me clearly
55:21 not capable of it anyway so so there
55:25 that's a really interesting about Haswell so even though you have an awesome power supply it may not work
55:31 with Haswell so watch out check with your manufacturer make sure it works uh
55:35 most of the good manufacturers should have most of their power supplies
55:40 working so let's take a moment and do a little bit of Twitter Twitter uh paying
55:44 attention this plutonium 1.21
55:47 gigawatts um that would be awesome oh my
55:51 goodness urb that's probably hilarious oh we're not can't click on we're not
55:55 clicking on this that's probably hilarious um I actually don't drink
55:58 coffee can you imagine what I'd be like if I drank coffee oh that would be scary
56:03 actually I consume no stimulants no energy drinks prob crawl on the roof
56:08 like I don't need it no he doesn't I didn't even get that much
56:12 sleep last night I'm like uh first time watching from Norway
56:18 what are your thoughts on Windows blue we've actually talked about Windows blew a little bit some of the features that
56:21 are coming there was a preview that The Verge broke the news about um I'mma take
56:27 a sort of wait and see approach you know what normally I'd be upset about this
56:31 Sean because that's a cheap shot that is a really cheap shot but um after the
56:37 lock out I don't care and 10% of people
56:40 know what we're talking about oh hockey hockey so the San Jose Sharks beat the
56:45 Vancouver Canucks in four hockey games consecutively meaning that the Vancouver
56:50 canx can no longer win the Stanley Cup which is the coveted
56:55 prize the it's a jock jock
56:58 strap different kind of cup sorry my bad anyway um normally I'd care but I just
57:05 didn't yeah just didn't didn't care oh
57:09 apparently I really need to read list
57:12 Fern's last post on that Haswell compatibility topic so we're going to go
57:17 ahead and move down to where he has posted some additional stuff
57:22 uh apparently Johnny Guru came on to oc3d told him off for messing up his
57:28 name oh no oh wow did you really spell
57:32 Johnny Guru like that okay just so you guys know Johnny Guru is the website to
57:38 go to for power supply reviews you can come look at our unboxing and we're
57:42 going to show you some you know what the cable sleeving quality looks like and
57:45 what connectors are on it how long they are in Linus ARM lengths if you want to
57:49 know anything about a power supply actually Johnny guru.com they do the
57:54 best power supply reviews by are none everything else is basically worthless
57:58 compared to what they do you can quote me on that we don't do that's part of
58:02 the reason why we don't do why bother like why bother we'll just put it in a
58:07 system it'll look cool and we'll talk about how it looks and then and we'll
58:11 talk about what we read on Johnny Guru because guys if you want to know
58:15 anything about a power supply if Johnny Guru recommended it and it got even like
58:19 7 out of 10 or better it's probably safe it's fine buy it had be confident if it
58:25 got n out of 10 or 10 out of 10 on Johnny Guru that's Beast one be prepared
58:28 to Pony up yeah because I tell you that is a well-built power supply and number
58:32 two be confident cuz it's awesome um
58:36 okay so anyway sort of back to back to Twitter I would catch a live stream
58:41 several times but either I've overslept or had problems with my LA with my
58:45 laptop I'm trying I'm trying to scroll down it's I'm having trouble Twitter needs to just calm down um have you
58:50 heard about that one keyboard model disappearing lonus no yes well yeah
58:55 exactly um loving the stream I think he thought the Ora boros was a keyboard uh
58:59 loving the stream tonight guys first time tuning in live hi le guy the guy
59:03 Luke whatever your name is uh watching live stream from Kuwait speaking of
59:07 Kuwait it was uh crap it was Syria right
59:11 Syria has no internet yeah no internet I think it's back now but uh Syria just
59:17 disappeared from the internet like which was just bizarre so uh Syria
59:23 yeah Middle Eastern country internet went down basically they just like
59:27 turned it off and uh everyone was kind of sitting here going like what holy
59:31 crap can you imagine so I'm not going to get into the political ramifications of
59:35 all that because honestly I am not that well versed in
59:38 it and we're not those people yeah um
59:43 however what I would like you guys to reflect on is in the last 20 years
59:49 basically how pervasive the internet has become in your
59:53 life isn't it mindboggling what if the internet was turned off in
59:59 your country like my job would just be
60:03 impossible I could I couldn't do my job for like male people
60:07 DVDs right it's like we yeah we'd have to be we'd have to be uh oh crap what
60:13 was that star something what was that DVD service the the mailing uh mail
60:19 rental DVD thing oh crap have no idea
60:23 what you're talking about I have to look it up it was like it was like something
60:27 like club or uh DVD mail uh
60:32 rental service or like you had to buy
60:36 them or something oh I forget what it was called
60:40 no okay hopefully someone can tell me on Twitter maybe it was something something
60:44 Club I don't know it was it was an old thing it was It was kind of on the same
60:48 level as like AOL CDs where it was like there were always pamphlets for this
60:53 stupid thing and I was like anyway that's what Tech tips will become we'll
60:57 just we'll mail you the latest unboxings on like a monthly basis no big deal no
61:01 no big deal but yeah what would it even what would it even yeah uh oh no way I
61:07 don't know I don't know if this is true I don't if this is true but apparently if you go bankrupt in game device tyon
61:12 EA buys you I kind of have a feeling I have a feeling that's not true but it
61:15 would be hilarious yeah bro do you even ea uh watching L live for the second
61:20 time it's 400 a.m. thank you for bearing with us on this uh on this uh here live
61:26 stream it's pretty tough RAM for Budget gaming buy whatever SK SK SK uh what
61:31 about the steam donation what about a steam donation for lonus Tech tips where
61:35 you can test with more recent games honestly what recent games do we not
61:38 test with we test a l we test pretty much everything the only things I can
61:42 think of I mean we did BioShock Infinite we did Tomb Raider we did uh we jumped
61:46 over Far Cry 3 Crisis 3 we jumped over
61:50 we're going to do Metro last Light Star Trek Star Trek I know a few people asked
61:54 for that but it's not like a hug huge like okay it's pretty big but it's not
61:58 it's not on the level of like Bioshock and I have a segue like that sure um so
62:02 speaking of Star Trek they tried to do an MMO at one point yeah which is sort
62:07 of like wow because every MMO is sort of like wow and wow lost 1.3 million
62:14 subscribers in q1 2013 wrap your brain around that wow
62:19 lost more subscribers in q1 than most
62:23 MMOs will ever get
62:26 so they still have a beast amount okay yes they still have 8 million it's down
62:31 from the peak of 12 million and I've seen some posts on the Forum actually
62:34 this was a uh this was a forum post so I want to make sure that I give credit
62:38 where credits do just to interject again quickly have to do this while it's up um
62:42 we basically just crashed Johnny Guru oh no it works oh did we really yeah oops
62:47 it's still it doesn't fully work some things aren't loading oh there we go
62:51 great site when it works takes about four or five minutes fantastic site go
62:55 there some other time sorry Johnny sorry
62:58 but you're awesome man um and Oklahoma wolf the guy who was doing most of the
63:02 reviews when I was reading a lot more on there is awesome too great writing style
63:06 very funny uh anyway so I can't find the
63:09 thread I'm sorry to whoever posted this thread on the Forum you're awesome and
63:13 and I heart you and all that good stuff hopefully someone will find it yeah hopefully someone will find it and tweet
63:17 it at you know hash Linus you forgot or something like that hashtag I don't know
63:22 man um they just tweet it at you they could but I don't know if everyone will
63:25 see it anyway at me and I'll retweet it calm down there's a thread on the Forum
63:29 where uh people were saying that it's kind of in between new content right now
63:34 um so it might not be indicative of of
63:37 sort of you know anything that crazy but think about it this way over the course
63:42 of a month them having 1.3 million fewer
63:46 subscribers based on if everyone was paying $15 a month would be almost $2
63:51 million of Revenue that's basically Prof
63:56 when you consider that they have to invest in the infrastructure they have
64:00 to invest in the content there's a lot of Dev there's a lot of support there's
64:04 a lot of for their 8 million existing
64:07 subscribers they already have to do all that crap anyway so that 20 million was
64:13 the profit if you think about it that way or it was basically profit because
64:18 they they had to do all that other stuff anyway that is huge on the bottom line
64:23 of Activision I mean they're basically saying don't worry about it we're still
64:26 number one you know it's okay it's cool
64:31 but um here are a few things that I wanted to discuss if wow were to stumble would
64:37 something just as quickly pop up to take its place as a paid game would something
64:42 be able to take its place would people even be willing to pay for an MMO
64:46 anymore I wish would they be I I would
64:49 personally I oh I don't like pay to play
64:52 I'm very very against pay to play because almost every single pay to
64:56 playay system no matter how you look at it has at least a little bit of Pay to
65:00 Win It might not be that much it so
65:03 you're talking about microtransactions versus subscription based okay oh sorry
65:08 you probably should have said that because wow is sort of pay to play as well definitely it's of course it's
65:12 definitely pay to play so microtransactions worse than than
65:18 subscription based subcription personally I don't mind subscription base everyone's on equal playing field
65:22 no matter what okay that's true always
65:25 like like doesn't matter um and everything you get in the game is earned
65:30 the same way that everyone else would earn it yes okay um with
65:33 microtransactions no matter to what scale unless it is only cosmetic and
65:39 even with only cos something like League of Legends is largely cosmetic but you
65:44 can still unlock Champions with in certain game roads like uh the new Aram
65:48 game mode that they came up with can make things better for you because if
65:51 there are clearly better setups of teams in Aram and you don't get to pick your
65:55 Champion it's all random all mid so you get randomed a champion so if you're
66:00 just the free week Champions you had a disadvantage comp compared to people
66:03 that have specifically really good Champions on aand right okay and people
66:08 will come at me and be like that's not the main game mode all that kind of stuff doesn't matter a ton of people
66:12 play it right it's still is competitive
66:15 and all that kind of stuff still competitive even though it's not competitive on a tournament level it's
66:18 still competitive when you're just playing with your buddies um Okay blah
66:21 blah blah so so paying to enhance the enjoyment experience okay so so riddle
66:26 me this then after wow basically sort of
66:30 perfected it so to speak is there really any Innovation left in
66:34 MMO because you've got Eve as sort of your your hardcore MMO you've got World
66:41 of Warcraft as sort of your accessible MMO you've got all these skeletons so
66:47 many Age Of Conan look how long Star Wars the Old Republic was was
66:53 subscription based what was it like few months
66:56 I mean is there is is not so much is there any Innovation left because I
67:01 think there's Innovation left and I think part of the problem with MMOs is
67:04 that they're not innovating I think Star Citizen might be a way for pretty stoked
67:08 for Star CI might be a way for um Chris
67:11 Roberts to really show that there's still room for a massively multiplayer
67:15 experience to innovate and be different but is it because they're all wild
67:18 clones and are studi is going to be
67:21 willing to invest what it would take to design a new from the round from the
67:26 ground up to replace wow if it faltered
67:29 before I before I comment on that I want to interject this is completely different conversation so I don't really
67:33 want to go into it but I hate the I hate the term wild clone but that's a
67:37 completely different topic anyways I don't really think so I think Studios
67:42 will drop a bunch of money ESO is dropping a whole bunch of money but I
67:45 don't um at the same time people complaining about the potential Graphics
67:49 problems so they might not have dropped the amount of money that they should
67:52 have we won't know until we get open Beta realistically have to have a look
67:56 at that um but like everything else to be able to and if it's Elder scolls you
68:00 think it'll be modable at All Tex probably not textures I don't
68:05 know um but I know there will be add-ons available okay okay so anyway sorry car
68:09 on anyways don't want to get too much into that um I don't think it'll happen
68:14 not on the scale that wow was because if you look at the timeline for MMO
68:18 releases wow was perfect right um Ultima
68:23 and EQ were old right there was nothing else really
68:27 really big on the table wow dropped everyone that was tired of ultimate EQ
68:31 because it was really old moved to wow and then they just crushed it it was a
68:36 big enough pool of people that when new things came out at the beginning it
68:39 didn't matter because all your friends played wow and you wanted to play with
68:43 your friends so everyone went and played wow they exploded they were massive and
68:46 that was taking forever them for them to die because it's still um depending on
68:50 your play style a good game there's still a lot of people that play it I don't like it anymore there's still 8
68:54 million people that play there's a ton of people that play it I liked uh
68:57 classic Wow way more but okay I don't think it'll happen because to create
69:02 that again there's so many MMOs that are coming out all the time right you can't
69:05 hit that time so we might end up with a more fragmented type of Market I don't
69:10 think it's going to be the massive one game experience that it basically was
69:13 when Wow first came out right so then it might be more like a cyclical thing
69:18 because you look at some like okay let's look at anything let's look at uh the
69:21 development of the graphics Processing Unit when it started there was one yeah
69:26 then there was a couple then everyone in their dog got in and then there was then
69:32 it reconsolidated so maybe we're so so
69:35 at the beginning there was really only a couple yeah okay and then there was the
69:39 one dominant one for a long time then maybe it's time for the end of that I
69:43 mean but well it's it's the end of the one dominant one it then it spread out
69:47 like crazy so basic you could actually couple in the the very few that were at
69:51 the beginning and the one dominant one probably into the same bracket right into the same sort of because not many
69:57 yeah and then success tons and then too
70:01 many so it Narrows back down that's actually a really that might actually
70:04 happen so many things are like that I mean it's been done Time and Time and
70:07 Time and Time and Time Again by the way that was actually Kilmer that posted the
70:11 wow thing oh okay Kilmer was a was a mod
70:14 on our forum and he has stepped down because he just doesn't have time which
70:18 is that's cool that's cool we totally get it yeah yeah uh blizzard is busy
70:23 with a new MMO called Titan should be a Round Up game if there's anyone who can
70:28 do it again it'll be blizzard but there's also going to be so
70:34 much more scrutiny on it oh my goodness with that said blizzard has shown their
70:38 committed to fixing stuff y yeah Dia 3 is apparently a much better experience
70:43 than it was I've heard that as well I haven't actually stepped back and played it but I've definitely heard that from
70:47 not a small grouping of people and like Titan like you just said scrutiny that
70:51 thing will be combed with like a brick
70:54 people talk about fine combed with a brick people talk about F what does that
70:58 mean like everything will be looked at combed with a brick yeah okay that's
71:02 fine tooth comb that's a quotable moment this is beyond somebody mean this please
71:06 him trying to explain combed with a brick to me that's the stupidest thing
71:10 you've ever said comb there's fine tooth comb this is way beyond that so it's
71:14 just a brick brick tooth comb
71:17 yeah you're fired n no you're fired for
71:21 that NP um just got got to say lonus from now on
71:26 you got to be careful when you tell half a million people about a website well
71:30 he's a little bit exaggerating I think we're at around 3500 by the way thank
71:34 you so much guys we are overwhelmed that there are so many people tuning into the
71:38 live stream you guys all rock that is huge I mean uh I was marveling the other
71:44 day you were showing me Day N stream where he had what about 12K people
71:48 watching or something like that I don't remember what he end I think it was like 10.5 10.5 and I was just like you know
71:53 what I feel huge just when a third as many people as Day
71:57 N tune in to watch me so aast I felt pretty cool about that I know we're not
72:01 asking for as much of a time commitment as him and we don't stream as much as
72:05 him and all that kind of stuff but I still felt cool like cool shades where
72:09 are the cool shades cool shades cool shades can you reach them your arms are longer than mine yes okay I'm going to
72:15 wear the cool shades for the rest of the stream that you broke I didn't fully
72:19 break them these are my glasses uh I was
72:22 wearing them in some video where we're standing there jumping and he's wearing his boots and they we never ended up
72:27 releasing the segment either no we should release it just as like a a DVD
72:31 like behind the scenes I got bumped in the face and they fell off my face and
72:35 between under his Boot and now they now they I think I knocked them off your
72:39 face yes yeah I was I was saving face that thank you we just said face a lot
72:44 yeah your face um one of my mods just
72:47 brought up a good thing Day Z that kind of happened with Daisy there was one and
72:51 it was like everyone make a Zombie Survival game
72:55 and now it's kind of caling back down again coming back down to just a few that survived
73:02 survived I can't take you seriously when your glasses are so off the zombie game
73:07 Zombie Apocalypse at what point do games that
73:11 were dead come back from the dead and steal back the
73:15 title I actually can't take you seriously I don't know if it looks it
73:19 doesn't look as bad in the feed it looks ridiculous when he's when I look at them
73:22 head on it's probably worse I think it's the angle that helps a little bit it
73:25 seems like it could be anyway why don't we just uh why don't we just why don't
73:30 just sort of get back to Twitter here um any good gaming headsets and mice to buy
73:34 that are around 60 to 80 bucks lots of good mice uh Razer Death Adder 2013
73:39 edition 6,400 DPI Optical gaming mouse great rubber grips on the sides um
73:44 that's on at NCIX for $59.99 it's either $59.99 or $699 I think 59.99 as for
73:50 gaming headsets honestly you can get a Siberia V2 for that price it's comfy
73:53 it's lightweight it sounds okay gaming headsets really aren't the way to go if
73:57 you want a great audio experience with the exception of the steel series 7h and
74:01 some of sennheiser's higher end stuff but you're not going to get any of those things for $60 to 80 so or if you have a
74:06 big head yeah or if you have a big head because the Sennheiser 7h is not good
74:09 for people with big heads um okay so frostbite says he
74:13 thinks Guild Wars 2 does MMO the best you can buy the game for a price um my I
74:18 haven't played Guild Wars 2 but my brother loves Guild Wars 2 he plays it
74:22 casually um and he finds the experience is just you jump in and you can just
74:26 kind of go around and do whatever you want and it's it's he finds it like
74:30 relaxing and nice instead of like just
74:34 the oh my God everything's going on all the time blood pack says don't even
74:37 complain about lack of innovation if you didn't even try the secret world which I
74:40 did not so we just got told also didn't we just got told Guild Wars 1 apparently
74:45 had four million active users at one time um this was Johnny's fourth post
74:50 since he registered back in 2010 wow pwned so hard electronic mass
74:58 production buys you I think it's supposed to be EA apparently in that game oh okay so back to news items we
75:03 have a ton this week paid YouTube
75:07 subscriptions they be here so this was
75:10 posted by speedstack 79 he didn't really give us any sort of an editorial on it
75:15 but uh there you go so you can check out the paid channels there's prices ranging
75:19 from a dollar to sort of just under $10
75:23 and sort of anything in between um I'd like to say one thing at the
75:27 beginning here and hopefully you guys can take me seriously in spite of these
75:31 glasses lonus Tech tips will never be a
75:34 paid channel so there you go Written in Blood
75:37 as far as I'm concerned unless YouTube forces everyone to take paid
75:41 subscriptions which I really don't see happen oh that um because I'm sure we
75:45 can be ad supported as long as we need to be ad supported Linus techtips will
75:48 not be a paid Channel we will always continue to try to take money from
75:52 corporate sponsors as much as we can to make the channel possible to pay the
75:57 salaries of the people involved um I mean honestly we prefer it that way we'd
76:03 be willing to do something like a tip jar or a Bitcoin mining pool or even
76:07 things like kickstarters if we need equipment or we want to do something really special and we think you guys
76:11 will benefit but we are not going to do
76:15 paid subscriptions we might do things like um special tags on the forum for
76:19 contributors all these things but you will always have access to the content
76:24 online as Tech tips no question a public
76:27 resource yes cons we consider it like I
76:32 mean we're we're doing a service to everyone the way we look at it we're doing a service to the manufacturer by
76:36 showcasing their product to people we're doing a service to the viewer by
76:40 showcasing the cool new products that we can get our hands on and show you guys
76:44 um so the way we see it is everyone benefits if as many people watch it as
76:48 possible and that has always been the philosophy of Linus Tech tips so there
76:54 you go
76:57 go and try okay if you're posting something in new section try to put a
77:02 little bit of your own input in on it please please please input something
77:05 it's helpful um so here we go Mr crisis
77:09 2000 submitted this one about the Galaxy
77:13 S4 zoom and you know what's hilarious is
77:16 I predicted this one yep bam I actually
77:20 well I don't know if I predicted it cuz I didn't think anyone would make it no
77:23 but what I said was the the only problem with Samsung's Galaxy camera which is
77:27 basically just an Android powered camera is that it doesn't have a cell phone in it they had to add such little stuff to
77:33 it to make it a cell phone yeah and I was like cuz it already had a persistent
77:36 data connection you could put a SIM in it but it just didn't have the calling
77:39 hardware and I wonder if it was in there and they just didn't enable it like
77:44 seriously oh oh people want this okay on yeah on um but I mean think about this
77:51 guys if you're a Shutterbug or a blogger would you rather have a slim phone that
77:57 doesn't take that great pictures I mean this one does okay this is the one and
78:01 honestly the S4 does okay but it'll always be limited by the size of the
78:05 Optics you can put in the bump the distance the size of the sensor you can
78:08 put in all those things would you rather have a slim phone that takes kind of
78:12 shoddy pictures or would you rather have a camera that also acts as a phone not
78:16 everyone's on their phone all the time and it's got a nice big screen on the
78:20 back just like the Galaxy camera um so yeah guys Post in this thread in the
78:25 form because apparently our site can take the heat what's up Johnny um so 16 megapixel
78:32 camera with a phone built in word on the street is Samsung something something
78:36 blah blah blah okay has an Amo LED
78:40 screen Android Jelly Bean 8 gigs memory Bluetooth 4.0 uh speculation something
78:45 something something etc etc etc do you guys think this is a cool idea you know
78:48 what I'd like to take let's let's talk to the twitch chat one quick thing it's
78:53 a wretched Hive of G and villainy but I love it that way uh blunty 3000 an
78:58 Australian camera viewer um said that its battery life is not very good
79:02 scaling around three
79:07 hours Samsung why you do these things to
79:12 me
79:16 I it would be nice someone says in twitch chat your glasses are messed up
79:20 uh sorry go ahead yeah um
79:25 wow you could be able to throw I do want to do this so talk quickly if you're
79:28 gonna say something because I want to start talking about twitch chat okay
79:31 talk about twitch chat oh okay yeah so okay guys so what do you think lus fix
79:35 your glasses i' prefer the phone take off those glasses give me a shout out to
79:39 moppers or something along those lines more memes uh MMO never winter okay I
79:46 something something I prefer the thick phone with aggressive battery that's
79:49 another one we've talked about maybe not even a great camera or maybe you could
79:53 put a better camera in if you had a thicker you should be able to um unbox
79:57 the corser 350d we have actually done that it's sitting over there unboxed I
80:00 just have to upload it uh NC website looks like a child designed it you know
80:04 what one of my friends actually uh used to be my boss now we're more friends he
80:08 doesn't work there any more design that website and back when it was designed it was not bad uh prefer a phone not and a
80:15 separate camera okay fair enough uh the
80:18 twitch chat exploded okay someone's saying put it on slow I prefer the
80:22 camera but not without battery life okay so there you go we took some feedback
80:26 from twitch chat today thank you very much guys so let's go back to our okay
80:31 what were you going to say I just I wanted to talk to them before they it's
80:34 cool that you can at least throw a Sim INE now and talk on the thing but the
80:38 battery life is so low that is problem
80:41 is is problem is problem although with portable battery packs if you're hauled
80:45 that around you probably have some sort of a bag right you could charge it up
80:49 with a portable battery pack so this right here was submitted by back grund
80:54 thank you very much much for this awesome submission back grund ASRock is
80:58 apparently planning to release water resistant motherboards in their OC
81:01 formula series associated with the Intel Haswell release what do you think about
81:06 this is waterproof motherboards the future for water cooling guys or will it
81:10 be just a new gimmick background I got to you know what I got to give you
81:14 credit for giving some some feedback on the topic but I think you got it kind of
81:19 wrong here unfortunately what this is going to be great for is Subzero Cooling
81:24 not water cooling when it comes to water cooling the danger is not so much to the
81:28 motherboard because usually by the time you're leak testing your motherboard is
81:32 vertical and is unlikely to be spilled on the danger is usually to your
81:35 graphics card or your power supply getting water dripping into it and it
81:39 can sit there and cause problems by sitting there big problems because
81:43 distilled water is not inherently conductive but once it sits and gets
81:47 some soldering flux in it or some metal
81:50 ion that's when you run into trouble what this is great for is guys who are
81:54 doing Subzero overclocking where condensation can be a big issue and
81:58 insulating boards perfectly can be a big
82:01 difference between that modded board that the overclocker spent hours yeah
82:06 getting working just right like even days getting working just right working
82:10 and then dying because one little bit of water
82:14 got in there condensation boom dead so
82:17 that's really cool um having it be water resistant for extreme overclocking I
82:21 mean also for extremely humid environments would this be a benefit I
82:25 don't know it must I know that's a problem maybe I think so maybe I don't
82:30 know I guess if you spilled your you put so many so many cases have mesh tops you
82:35 knock your drink over they I have two friends that I know that have done that
82:38 they're pouring a can of cola on it in the uh in the picture here but guys just
82:42 because it's waterproof does not mean it's Cola proof no so people are still
82:47 in the twitch chat there's like Linus's glasses are crooked yeah I know um um
82:51 and the other really cool thing about this board is HDM my
82:55 input holy freaking crap how cool is
82:58 that it is actually pretty Beast because some consoles notably the Xbox 360 and
83:04 um you know game streamers are able to to utilize this as well do not have DRM
83:09 so if you had an HDMI input right on your board you know know much a capture
83:12 card costs like a hundred bucks if you had an HDMI input on your board you
83:18 could actually capture from an external Source I don't know if this is what
83:21 they're intending to use it for but that would make this board
83:25 more gaming optimized than any gaming branded board I've ever seen huh yeah I
83:31 know that's awesome I mean better audio actually I I stand by that better
83:35 Network solution those are good but I'd probably put a sound card in anyway so
83:39 for me with so many people game streaming these days I'd say putting an
83:42 HDMI input on your board is a cool way to make it gaming optimized yeah I'm
83:46 sure twitch is pretty stoked that great features for the overclockers great
83:50 features for the gamers very cool board with that said as rock is still not
83:55 really on my list of motherboard manufacturers that I pay too close
83:58 attention to but if they keep doing cool stuff like this that might turn 360
84:04 Degrees just kidding guys 180 if you weren't in the live stream
84:09 earlier you won't get the joke so just calm down I know it's not 360 um this is
84:14 kind of gross it's very gross this is actually super gross but uh alexb on
84:19 Twitter submitted this to me the uh the ultimate Canadian computer and I really
84:25 hope that Canada is not about Taxidermy beavers with computers inside them but
84:30 it's an ITX build very old like crappy
84:34 components with a Taxidermy Beaver yes
84:37 that is a real beaver with a fan in the
84:40 back um let me see if I can skip to the
84:44 spot where it's there there's the io
84:47 accessible through like a flap there's the beaver sitting on a desk is that not
84:51 the scariest thing you guys have ever seen with this Beaver sitting next to
84:55 the monitor here holy freaking smoly anyway I'm
85:00 pretty sure this is an older thing but I just I hadn't seen it before so uh
85:05 apparently the beaver pick was posted on Reddit a couple days ago so it's probably where they saw it but yeah just
85:10 like the most bizarre thing ever we have almost 3,600 live viewers wow and they
85:16 all unfortunately had to just see that yeah I'm sorry guys you know what we
85:20 probably just shouldn't have done that slick told me not to do it but I did I
85:24 was like like yeah all right so it's time to take another shot at EA oh no
85:28 this is the biggest one oh oh no oh this is not good the Walt
85:35 Disney Company in EA announced multi-year Star Wars games
85:39 agreement submitted by PC explosion I believe was the first one to submit this
85:44 on the for come on like I I will forgive so many things if you don't screw this
85:48 up like please don't screw this up come
85:51 on if anyone from EA is watching just
85:55 come on that got him take the glasses off no I'm putting them back on it's
85:59 okay but temporarily got him to take the glasses off it's like come on don't
86:03 screw this up not only that but it's exclusive so the odds of me getting like
86:08 a remade TIE fighter anytime in the multi-year deal not going to happen mind
86:13 you EA is sort of the Masters of remaking things yeah that's true they might actually happen maybe if I get a
86:17 remade TIE fighter of this EA employees who are watching I will be super stoked
86:22 that isn't like oh yeah to buy to buy another like ship you need to
86:28 microtransaction yeah um oh you don't
86:31 have Luke Skywalker content pay $15 yeah
86:35 okay okay maybe be careful what you wish for I guess because I could I could end
86:39 up with my game but broke yeah exactly so cuz you're going to buy everything
86:45 $700 additional no I know if someone asked me to spend $500 on a TIE fighter
86:49 remake with modern Graphics but just the exact game maybe throw in multiplayer
86:53 okay I pay $500 for single player alone I'd pay a grand for
86:58 multiplayer like for my own personal copy knowing him not even slightly
87:02 surprised it could probably go higher you know I can't afford it you'd probably still do it if it went higher
87:06 you know I can't afford it you'd probably sell your bike but I'd do it I
87:09 would do it like I would do it just for TIE fighter just for TIE fighter and if
87:14 if they threw in the X-Wing campaign too oh and like they've got some of
87:19 their better Publishers behind it I mean imagine if they got James Earl Jones to
87:22 come in and do the Darth Vader voice
87:25 oh that would be Beast yeah I'm going to have to go change my pants um so anyway
87:31 under the deal it's exclusive except for
87:34 a few like lame casual platforms like tablet games or kids games uh it looks
87:40 like the devs who are going to be working on it are actually I wrote this
87:43 down in my thing visceral Dice and BioWare yeah will be deving the game so
87:48 this is the lesser of all evils as far as things look EA is making a big deal
87:54 out of how some new Star Wars game is going to use Frostbite 3 who cares as if
87:58 the engine ever made the game TIE fighter is one of the greatest games ever it looks like ass it doesn't hurt
88:04 but it doesn't hurt but but still it's not like I'm looking at it going wow
88:08 when Darth Vader cut off Luke Skywalker's hands I could really see the
88:11 blood spur you can even see any blood in the movie that doesn't make it not a
88:14 great movie so there's my whole thing uh I
88:19 anyway so I was willing to give Disney the benefit of the doubt on the whole
88:22 acquisition as far as movies are going I was actually willing to give them the
88:26 benefit of the doubt on closing down Lucas Arts like I was like okay if they
88:30 find some great Deads to do this maybe they can rejuvenate it but come on this
88:36 is not oh I I would like beg on hands
88:39 and knees for EA not to screw this up
88:42 yeah like just it do it right now okay
88:46 okay okay okay EA employees who are watching here we can we can kneel on the
88:51 chairs I think it's my chair's spinning I'm going okay okay okay so okay we're
88:57 sort of kneeling EA we please don't
89:00 screw this up please don't screw this do not screw this up
89:04 please oh my goodness and like are they even going to
89:08 release 13313 which is like probably close to
89:12 done I don't know oh I'm so worried for how this is
89:18 how many people are tuned in right now oh well we started hitting on EA all the
89:22 EA employees left so there were 40 of them watching hopefully they don't get
89:26 fired okay our last topics before we do our build Glo build glogs Globs build
89:31 blogs of the week is uh you know I have
89:34 a lot of potential sponsors this was submitted by Joel the zombie 15 uh this
89:39 was actually a while ago I meant to talk about this uh this last week I think but
89:46 um a lot of sponsors have sort of asked me how many likes I have on Facebook and
89:51 sort of things like that I've never done a like like like me on Facebook to win
89:55 I've never done anything like that I've never really pushed Facebook to me Facebook is one of those things where
90:00 most of the content on there is stuff that I share that people send to me on
90:03 Facebook things like builds or like cool pictures or funny things that I think
90:07 are funny um uh most of my Twitter
90:10 content goes on there all my Instagram content goes to Twitter which then goes
90:13 to Facebook so what Facebook is really is it's for people who are on Facebook
90:17 anyway don't feel like following on Twitter don't feel like subscribing on
90:21 YouTube but still want to have a way to get access to the content whatever it is
90:24 that I'm talking about so that to me Facebook is like my like like quary
90:30 priority out of everything that I do um
90:34 but that a word a lot of people won't get I'm still gonna sorry uh so it's so
90:38 it's primary secondary tertiary quinary fourth priority um so but I'm going to
90:44 support it just because I know some people prefer it which is great but uh
90:48 this is this is really funny so what's a Facebook like worth because I I get
90:52 questioned by sponsor why don't you have a lot of likes on Facebook you're huge
90:56 on YouTube you've got a big Twitter following you've got all these things
90:59 why why are you so small on Facebook and I go well because a Facebook life
91:02 doesn't really mean anything it's been cheapened to the point where what does
91:07 it even do so UNICEF has launched a bold
91:10 advertising campaign that takes direct aim at perhaps the most ubiquitous form
91:15 of online activism the Facebook like I
91:19 like you know people against animals being tortured I mean that's that's
91:23 great you know you know what I'm against animals being tortured too and I'm going to go ahead I'm going to say that but uh
91:28 late last month UNICEF Sweden released three commercials that urge viewers to
91:31 support humanitarian Aid not through posts or shares on social media but
91:36 through monetary donations Facebook likes do not save
91:40 lives they do not save animals they do not save the environment they do not do
91:45 anything technically it's an x amount of data so the only thing it could possibly
91:48 do is hurt the environment that's true a hard drive had to be like installed hard
91:54 drive had to be created data had to travel along
91:57 paths energy was consumed so something happened somewhere
92:05 yeah so anyway there you go we are we
92:08 are disappointed that anyone ever thought that Facebook likes actually did
92:12 anything positive I mean the kinds of things I like on Facebook are things
92:15 like my local badminton crew yeah it's
92:18 like because that way when they're trying to attract a sponsor for their
92:22 tournament or whatever they might have more lik or something they have more likes which they can show them and and
92:26 so there's that but at the at the end of the day like a like has become so
92:29 meaningless because everyone has turned it into just giving crap away for likes
92:34 which I've done a couple times on Twitter and I've done a couple times on
92:38 YouTube so follow to have a chance to win subscribe to have a chance to win
92:42 but I think the point of those ones is the ongoing dialogue I don't use Twitter
92:48 as just a way to sell Tech tips to a
92:51 sponsor I don't need it we have
92:54 350,000 subscribers on YouTube on one
92:57 channel alone already we have grown Techquickie in the last 3 months to 50,000
93:03 subscribers which is bigger than most YouTube channels will ever be we're
93:07 really good at video I don't need to sell subscribers the things I like about
93:11 social media are the two-way dialogue YouTube comments are a very difficult
93:15 way for me to interact with you guys whereas Twitter is great for live I'm
93:19 able to read your tweets in real time almost um live streaming is great for
93:23 interaction Facebook is okay for interaction I don't like that it's not
93:27 real time I mean what what's great about Twitter is if people tweet me and I'm
93:31 like laying in bed and I can't sleep I can be like yeah I can reply to some tweets it's cool it's interactive
93:36 whereas if Facebook likes and and and Twitter shares and whatever whatever
93:41 crap it all is is is just a way for me to like pump myself up and beef myself
93:46 up and make myself look good then it's completely lost the point and that's
93:50 what a lot of these activists that are sitting at their computers so of
93:54 flicking through their feed going like oh yeah baby photos baby photos oh well
93:58 I don't like starving monkeys come on guys anyway there you go
94:04 it's like new age chain mails apparently people want lonus social media tips
94:09 believe it or not I'm reasonably good at it so I I would be happy to give you
94:13 guys some social media tips if you're really that into it uh build logs of the
94:17 week here is you know what we're going to start with our legendary one there
94:21 was a thread in the Forum last week complaining that we do too much
94:24 legendary build less so we're starting with it so we're starting with the
94:28 legendary one haha anyway I'm going to let slick handle this so this is scroll
94:32 down function down in order to think you think you can handle this and we're
94:35 showing them it this time which is great I'm going to go get a drink of water do
94:38 you want one uh sure I've been talking a lot I'm like my throat is parched you're
94:43 really energetic today oh I'm tired actually we're going to take it slow now
94:47 that he's gone slow and relaxed this is Tech tips
94:51 radio this is Tech tips FM we're going to take this exactly at the speed you
94:55 want it all
94:59 right so this is another build by SNF SNF is actually pretty kind of insane um
95:04 I think we featured one of his builds before his stuff is just absolutely epic
95:10 so we're just going to go through some pictures here this I do not think is how it ended up pretty sure he water cooled
95:14 it but we will see ah there we go so
95:17 you've got a sabertooth um ASUS board
95:21 normally comes in brown he doesn't care
95:24 so he took the armor off from the top he's painting it here my goodness I
95:29 can't control this little tiny keyboard like lus does my hands are way too big
95:33 for this let's go up here so you can actually see it ah this doesn't work I'm
95:39 sorry everyone this keyboard is impossible for me to use um so he's
95:42 painting everything like a like a egg Shelly white I'm terrible with colors
95:47 that might not be accurate it's some form of white and it looks really good
95:51 you can see um Reservoir Clips right
95:55 there oh I'm so excited this looks so
95:58 good I'm trying to go through slowly but it looks amazing white F
96:03 Jeweler ns are awesome just look at that
96:07 like aren't you just if you haven't seen this yet if aren you just excited like
96:11 you know this is going to look amazing it looks so just Icy Blue Angel I don't
96:17 even know how else to describe it just such a nice colored white coming out
96:21 here coloring the fans is a dangerous and B old move but hopefully it turned
96:24 out well here's his Reservoir xspc radiator sorry for that
96:29 jump I'm not very good at controlling this uh keyboard which has a track ball
96:34 on it here he's just showing off a lot of
96:39 his tubings and fittings and stuff he always picks like oh snap's builds are
96:43 always insanely baller thank you I just got water on
96:48 both of our laptops and all over my leg
96:52 no that's P oh what horrible you'd think you'd be used
96:56 to it by now where are the here we go
96:59 here's the completed pictures just absolutely beasts like we
97:04 expect from SNF wow just absolutely Beast holy crap that's beautiful yep you
97:11 missed the like nice in progress shots you came in right as we got to the
97:14 completed shot wow SNF we featured him before his builds are topnotch like this
97:20 is crazy that is outstanding I love it
97:24 painted Sabertooth painted rad other more
97:27 different painted rad that tubing Arrangement you know what it's funny
97:31 because the more perfect it is the more you notice the mistakes see it's not
97:34 quite a right angle on the top of the front rad oh he off by a little bit but it's
97:40 you know what it's one of those things where it's like it's easier to see the flaw because the rest of it is so
97:45 perfect I love it let's go down a little bit and also that that that power supply
97:50 needs to have the colors swapped on the TX and the m
97:55 wow look at that fluid just so nice is that the um crap
98:01 what is it called I don't remember but I know the stuff you're talking about you know what I'm talking about yeah
98:05 yeah man that looks good and I like the
98:09 um only slightly blue uh sleeping on the cables yeah it would have been nice to
98:13 see it go all the way to the power supply you got to point with the arrow not point with the uh finger there oh
98:19 right so it means the the black Cable's coming out of the power supply itself
98:22 like it looks like it was a little bit phoned in there I wonder if he's using extensions and just hiding the cables in
98:27 the back I think so that way you know what you could do a build like this reasonably quickly if you did that this
98:32 wouldn't even take that long mask off your radiators paint them you still have
98:37 to do you can tell he planned this out like crazy because of his tubing runs
98:40 and the yes planning wise but if you were to look at his build get a parts
98:43 list and execute it you could probably do it without that much difficulty yeah
98:48 cool very cool oh that looks
98:51 good that's a really nice case too
98:55 wow and now with LED
99:00 huh just the gets more and more
99:03 pornographic as we go man and those fans look
99:10 amazing huh those are specters right y
99:14 Spectre Pros y just so nice I'm going a little bit
99:18 faster now because we've seen a lot of this already so so so nice I'm starting to
99:23 notice that power supply more yeah I know right just cuz the rest of it
99:28 perfect oh he's got like a proper proper setup oh yeah I mean you know what
99:32 honestly is he using a monitor to light it up half of what's oh I don't know
99:36 that's fantastic I think that's a monitor that's awesome um half of half
99:41 of like nice builds a lot of the time is
99:44 photography like I've seen Builds on million dooll PC that quite frankly
99:47 aren't really anything special and if you looked at them in person you really
99:51 wouldn't be that impressed right but but
99:54 when you uh when you take great pictures with the gorgeous depth of field and
99:58 perfect lighting are you going to go to the next build blog at some
100:01 point when you uh when you take great pictures of them with like gorgeous
100:05 depth of field and perfect lighting then they look
100:09 amazing um so we're wow we're almost done the live stream we've just got one
100:13 more build log to go and guys we are going to be doing a Mario World
100:16 Afterparty again now there's it's going to take us a little while to get it set
100:20 up but we are we're ready this time we
100:23 have a CRT for us and we're actually going to be using a different streaming
100:27 setup let me know when you're ready to go we're going to be using a different you're ready whenever okay I'll talk
100:31 about this after go for it uh oh oh what scene is it uh scene yeah there you go
100:36 there we go all right we're going again with kind of the White theme sorry about
100:41 that building up Essence STX right off the bat just o o love Ence STX and it
100:48 looks great really nice pictures again but we're just getting started um you'll
100:51 see something as he takes off the the back plate you'll see where this is
100:55 going pretty soon I'm going to skip through some of the more just general
100:58 shots there beautiful love back plate
101:01 just so Beast again I know white build maybe next week we'll try and make sure
101:05 that we don't have any more white builds but that seems to be flavor of the month
101:08 right now and just so you guys know it's not going to affect performance back
101:12 plate doesn't really contribute anything to card cooling we're talking maybe a
101:15 degree or two yeah like maybe
101:19 maybe um so it looks amazing that swag
101:22 coming down into it D showing more parts blah blah blah blah blah you can use
101:26 page down as well I know but it jumps too fast I find right okay I guess we
101:31 want people to be able to follow along yeah my thumb's so freaking big that I
101:34 can't believe we have more than 3,500 viewers this week you guys rock that's
101:38 awesome are those gellet yes believe so
101:42 uh yeah GED fans guys silent TW they're awesome okay keep going um and then he
101:46 wrapped as far as I can tell he wrapped didn't actually put his own tubing on
101:49 but he wrapped it yep so it looks really good huh like it still looks awesome
101:55 that's really smart yeah yeah it's brilliant cuz it looks great but then it
101:59 like right but it yeah so there's a lot
102:02 of like Nifty Things with this build that I really appreciated so with those
102:07 two small little things I guess h100 is
102:10 not in yet but with those two small little things once we get down to it like
102:14 there fairly minor changes he he added
102:18 the like not actual tubing point with the mouse pointer not your finger okay
102:21 I'm I'm trying to keep it locked on the anyways so he wrapped the tubing sorry I
102:26 jumped um which like looks really good
102:30 and it's not a crazy crazy thing to do he painted the back plate which is again
102:34 not a crazy crazy thing to do but looks really sharp two things that most people
102:38 wouldn't do but he thought of I like the little blue accents on the motherboard
102:42 with the rest of the build being otherwise black and white it looks really sharp yeah yeah coming down to it
102:47 Cable Management on the box backs nothing special this is a very attainable build yep so just it just
102:53 looks awesome is that a 650 TI
102:59 6 no the second 6 oh 660 yeah sorry I
103:02 can't see through these awesome glasses they're amazing there you go that should
103:06 be easy to read gorgeous yeah so awesome build again
103:10 kind of white and blue so they're both pretty similar in that aspect but they
103:14 were both really good builds so I didn't want to skip one nice keyboard yeah goes
103:18 along with the build that's one thing that's really cool too is when people syn out their entire build mhm so
103:23 everything works together it's like all your peripherals all your your case your
103:27 inside lighting everything all works together it's really cool all right so guys we will be back
103:34 in uh probably it's going to take us about 10 or 15 minutes because we've got
103:37 a new streaming setup for our our Mario
103:41 Afterparty um which will hopefully help slick not perform so abysmally well
103:46 probably terrible but awful but last week was that was awful and I have a USB
103:51 to SNES adapter in the mail so we're going to be switching to SNES
103:54 controllers hopefully next week or the week after um but we're using an a media
103:59 live gamer portable now on a notebook
104:02 then we have another more different notebook that is going to be outputting
104:07 to wait hold on okay so the live gamer portable is on this one which will be
104:11 the streaming machine then the other notebook is outputting to the CRT
104:18 because it has VGA out and it has HDMI
104:22 out so then it is outputting to the live game reportable which is running on the
104:25 other computer that is actually doing the streaming so oh yeah the special
104:30 guest moved to next week great question I should have covered that before um so
104:34 Steve doto will be joining us next week
104:37 uh oh yeah I probably should have told you that no I got the email you did oh
104:40 oh I sent you an email yeah like first time ever actual proper communication
104:45 happened yeah all right brilliant um so so anyway it'll take us a little while
104:49 to set it up guys stay tuned we will be
104:52 back and thank you for checking out the line's Tech tips live stream all 346 of
104:58 you that are left that wanted to listen to me do this like lead out thing and
105:03 for those of you who are still here I will remove my sunglasses because they are absolutely redonkulous more than one
105:08 person with o OCD was like oh God please take them
105:13 off I can't handle this the only reason I could handle it is I wasn't looking at
105:17 it right right uh where's the you put it
105:20 over there I can't reach it my arms aren't long enough all right see you
105:24 guys in the after party thanks for watching
