0:00 apparently in this video we're going to be comparing the cameraman's car to my
0:04 car I think the cameraman wins but that's neither here nor there actually
0:09 what we're going to be talking about is the Gigabyte x58a ud9 this is a very
0:14 exciting board which I've received endless requests to unbox and have a
0:19 look at it so let's start with the front of the Box unlocked power with
0:25 electricity and lightning bolts all over the place and uh for some reason the
0:29 camera wants me to hold this oh maybe he wants me to hold it next to the iPhone
0:33 that's here onoff charge that's another really cool feature that we've seen on
0:37 some of gigabytes newest boards onoff charge allows you to charge things via
0:42 the USB ports whether your computer is on or off hence the name onoff charge so
0:47 including iPhones iPods uh whatever else charges by USB let's have a look what
0:51 else do we got here delivers maximum CPU power with 24 phase CPU power built into
0:57 this board we have support for four-way Crossfire X four-way SLI it has a
1:03 three-year warranty in the US and Canada supports Intel's extreme edition six
1:07 core CPUs as well as having their 333
1:10 onboard acceleration USB 3.0 three times
1:14 USB power so that means if you're using a hub you can power three times as many
1:18 devices without plugging in an additional power adapter as well as
1:21 Ultra durable 3 SATA 3 and any any other
1:25 number of three three-year warranty uh I don't know there's got to be three of
1:28 something else uh supports i7 i7 extreme
1:32 and it's x58 that's three more things okay I don't know where I was
1:36 going with that let's take this piece of
1:39 cardboard off and have a look at the board so this is all basically the same
1:44 stuff um that we saw on the front it has
1:48 smart dual landan so you've got land port automatic switching between the two
1:52 physical gigabit land chips offering hassle free zero downtime high-speed
1:56 network connectivity hybrid silent Pipe 2 so that means you can either hook up
2:01 water cooling or you can hook up this huge air cooling heat sink to your board
2:05 depending on which route you want to go more unlocked power okay and then let's
2:10 go around and have a look at the back of the box which is exactly the same stuff
2:14 again okay why don't we just open it up and have a look at this sweet board then
2:19 and we'll stop looking at the Box although it is a fairly nice box I'll
2:22 definitely give Gigabyte that it's a very snazzy looking box it's very shiny
2:28 see I don't know if you can see this in the Sun but you see how like shiny it is
2:33 can you can you see those reflective little dots in the oh that's not what I
2:36 want you to look at okay let's open up the board further Ado oh I hit the camera
2:42 all right so the first thing we're going to find inside here
2:47 is oh that was just a teaser the first thing we're going to look at is the
2:51 accessories so in terms of accessories we should find a fairly fully loaded
2:57 package here uh we have a three-way SLI Bridge we have a four-way SLI Bridge
3:01 because both of those configurations are supported we have the users manual as
3:06 well as the driver DVD don't use this download the latest off the Gigabyte
3:09 website we have oh hold on hold on uh
3:13 congratulations on your oh neat okay we
3:16 have a Gigabyte uh VIP card okay uh what do you get register
3:21 today for a chance to win an Apple
3:24 iPad cool okay uh we have a gigaby
3:30 sticker some extra motherboard standoffs and I'll explain why we need those in a
3:33 minute we have a smart 6 users manual as well as a multilingual installation
3:38 guide book then on the other side we have some SATA 6 gbit per second
3:43 cables uh four of them to be precise oh wow yeah four okay and then
3:49 we have an i cable we have two long
3:52 Crossfire Bridges we have an EA bracket
3:57 so this includes power 2 EA ports and that all plugs in internally and then a
4:02 couple of Molex or one Molex to two SATA power adapter so that means you can just
4:07 plug in be drives it's very convenient for storage as well as two e SATA to
4:11 SATA cables we have an IO shield and a
4:15 third Crossfire Bridge no that's an SL oh okay that's a straight SLI Bridge
4:20 these are two Crossfire Bridges and then we have three-way and four-way SLI
4:23 Bridges so that pretty much takes care of the entire accessory package for this
4:28 particular board go ahead and put all that back in there do that and now we
4:33 will have a look finally at the board itself no I'm lying again okay we're
4:39 going to have a look at the extreme
4:42 cooler that you can actually put on top of the the hybrid silent pipe that you
4:46 can put on top of it this is the same one that we've seen included ever since
4:49 the x58 extreme oh there's a a sticker
4:54 that fell off here okay supports an extra 8 Pin CPU connector so the first
4:59 thing that you should notice about this board if you're a very observant viewer
5:04 is that it is not a standard ATX board
5:07 so right here you can see a gap between
5:12 where normally you'd have the first slot and where the first slot actually is on
5:17 this board so here I'm just going to grab a board my ghetto ancient motherboard that
5:23 I use to compare size every once in a while so we're going to just put that
5:27 over top of the Gigabyte 9 and you can
5:30 see it's quite a bit longer on the bottom and also quite a bit wider so
5:35 this is sort of an XL ATX eatx sort of
5:39 hybrid form factor board and uh yeah so that's the first
5:44 thing that you'll notice you'll also notice it has seven PCI Express 16x
5:49 slots although they're not all electrical 16x so this one this one this
5:53 one and this one are all actually wired for 16x while this one this one and this
5:58 one are only wired for
6:02 8X next we have uh yeah that's pretty
6:06 cool so that's the cooler that is going to be cooling the uh the self Bridge as
6:11 well as the nf200 chips that power this particular board uh that's the way that
6:17 Gigabyte was able to achieve so many PCI
6:20 Express slots you can actually populate every single slot I believe they'll all
6:24 run at 8X and I don't recall whether it's using one nf200 chip or or two
6:29 nf200 chips uh so if you know the answer to that please post it in the comments
6:34 under the video and I would be eternally grateful so why don't we start at the
6:38 CPU socket I'll start over again uh this is an LGA 1366 socket it's fairly bog
6:44 standard as far as that goes it is a loat socket so you don't have to worry
6:47 about any problems with the CPU contacting the pins correctly if you are
6:51 concerned about that sort of thing to the left of the socket we have two 8 Pin
6:55 EPS connectors so that means you can deliver a whole lot of power to that CPU
7:00 through this motherboard although you only need to plug in one of them you can
7:03 see this little sticker here supports an extra CPU 8 Pin power connector next we
7:08 have six DDR3 module slots they are running in
7:13 triple channel so the first ones you're going to populate are going to be the white ones and then you'd populate the
7:18 blue ones it supports up to 24 gigs of memory our 24 pin connectors in its
7:22 ideal location along the right hand edge of the board and also along the right
7:26 hand edge of the board and I love this you've got your power and reset switches
7:31 this is where they belong not at the bottom of the board because whether
7:34 you're on a test bench or whether you're in a case it's hard to get at switches
7:39 that are down at the very bottom right of the board this is always easy to
7:43 access cuz it's next to your RAM where there won't be a video card or a CPU
7:46 heat sink overhanging it perfect thank you Gigabyte good work next we have yes
7:53 four SATA 3 6 gbit per second Port so
7:57 the white ones are colorcoded for SATA 6 GB per second we have an IDE port in
8:02 between them and then we have six SATA 2 3 gbit per second ports running off of
8:08 the Intel Southbridge we have an LED uh
8:11 diagnostic the display right here we have our front panel connectors front
8:16 USB front USB front USB front fire wire
8:20 a floppy connector just in case you are still have a floppy drive and then we
8:24 have two additional Molex connectors so
8:28 one here at the very Bott bottom left and then one up above the PCI Express
8:32 slots and those are going to be to provide auxiliary power to a super beefy
8:38 graphics card configuration that you might want to plug into a board like
8:41 this so let's have a bit of a closer look at the cooling solution I know we
8:45 looked at the self Bridge cooling before I'm not talking about that chip
8:48 cameraman okay we had a closer look at the self Bridge solution before so
8:52 that's here that's just a big block of metal basically and then we're going to
8:57 be relying on because there isn't actually a whole lot of cooling
9:01 potential here so if you're water cooling this board only the CPU I'd be a
9:05 little bit concerned because there's a whole lot of stuff here to cool you've
9:08 got your uh SATA 6 um SATA 6 chipset
9:12 down here you got your South Bridge you got your North Bridge you got an nf200
9:15 or two don't forget to write a comment if you know you've got your mosfets and
9:20 that's a whole lot of stuff and you've only got these heat sinks right here and
9:23 that's pretty much it I mean this doesn't really have any air cooling potential to it it's got like a little
9:28 tiny heat sink in there but that's not getting any air flow and then this is
9:31 just a big block of metal so you either need to connect the hybrid silent pipe
9:36 or you need to connect water cooling to the North Bridge block right here and
9:40 that's what's going to take care of cooling all of this stuff because it is
9:43 all connected via heat pipes so as long as you cool this spot right here you
9:48 make sure you take care of your mosfets as well as all of your chipsets on a
9:51 board like this front audio connector is here and let's have a look at the back
9:56 connectivity on this motherboard so so first of all we've got two PS2 ports
10:01 personally I think that's necessary I like PS2 ports they're useful uh yeah
10:06 it's Legacy but I don't think it's that big of a deal next we've got cameraman
10:12 wants it at this angle for some reason all right next we've got digital audio
10:15 out so we have Optical as well as coaxial we have a clear Simo switch and
10:20 it's absolutely idealist possible location on the back panel you can
10:25 always reach that no matter what is installed on the board we have two
10:29 firewire ports we have two USB 2.0 ports
10:33 two USB 2.0 eat combo ports let me just
10:37 double check that that is indeed what those are yes it is we have two more USB
10:42 2.0 ports two USB 3.0 ports 2 gbit
10:45 landan as well as 7.1 audio out so thank
10:49 you for checking out my unboxing and first look at the Gigabyte x58a ud9 and
10:56 just for scale I'm going to take the cameraman's iPhone again and show you
11:00 just how huge this board is yeah that's
11:03 right the South Bridge heat SN is like the size of an
11:08 iPhone
