0:02 which is actually coming along quite well we're live oh
0:06 hello I'm trying to get into the twitch chat so I can link people articles and
0:10 stuff because people like it when we do what we're supposed to do on the show
0:15 which is usually cover topics but right now it's covering un
0:21 mustard I told you I was going to do the
0:24 joke I told him I was going to do the joke
0:28 a
0:58 oh
1:05 hello welcome to the W show I don't know
1:08 why he's not talking I don't know what topics we have today I'm just trolling
1:12 you so uh welcome to the W show guys it's going to be a great show today I
1:16 hope um we're definitely dressed for a great show today I got my uh got my
1:22 wiener head thing going on here I have a
1:26 nozzle head yeah Luke's got his mustard cap does it have a thing on the end I
1:31 think there is yeah there is a hole yeah yeah you have a mustard hole I do in
1:35 your costume I do anything sounds dirty when you add hole to it it's like
1:40 mustard Hole Hot Dog hole dog hole corn hole okay well that one that
1:46 one's fairly well established um oh my goodness so uh lots of great stuff today
1:52 the FBI's advice on ransomware just pay the
1:57 ransom woo the E ejaculator now on
2:02 Indiegogo now we don't generally cover
2:06 uh Indiegogo and and Kickstarter topics anymore because most of it is a steaming
2:11 pile of fail but uh this one is going to be a different kind of steaming you
2:16 missed the steaming pile of ejaculate yeah I was being a little more
2:21 subtle than that I didn't miss it is that what my mustard cap does I never
2:26 miss wow um what else we got here Arkham
2:32 Knight finally back on Steam I I I was
2:37 reading the article about this and I was like what do you mean Arkham kns
2:41 launching wasn't that like a billion years I'd actually forgotten about all
2:46 the controversy because I I I think I
2:50 played it like a little bit and I was like wow this is Arkham City without any
2:56 relevant villains who who
3:01 cares um so anyway I we already rolled the intro so I guess I'm kind of doing
3:06 the intro things now but I would normally I've heard I guess we're not
3:11 discussing the things we're just doing call outs yeah I think I was doing call
3:15 outs I I sort of got I got the ball got
3:19 rolling and then my balls were all rolled and then uh I think hot dogs have
3:24 balls it got awkward well they they could have uh they could have uh
3:30 cottage cheese balls wow some people
3:33 like cottage cheese on hot dos yeah I'm pretty sure that's a thing there's some
3:37 really interesting hot dogs people put some crazy stuff on their hot dogs yeah
3:41 yeah so I don't know are we talking about Arkham KN or we doing more call
3:46 out as long as you don't get poop on your hot dog
3:51 wow because it would taste gross that's why it's a problem yes it
3:56 would I should use that chair uh no
4:01 why I'm kidding okay uh okay so let's uh
4:06 let's get into our first topic here let's do the Surface Book issues so
4:11 everyone and their dog in the tech world
4:14 was like freaking out over the Surface
4:18 Book I certainly was I've got one on order or at least I thought I had one on
4:22 order no I actually do have one on order those of you who follow on Twitter will
4:26 have maybe seen the Epic Saga that is my
4:29 order of the Surface Book holy crap where I ordered it 3 weeks ago and then
4:35 I wanted to cancel my Surface Pro 4 order which was also in the same order
4:40 because I wanted to review them both so
4:43 I look he's VI uh so I cancelled my
4:46 Surface Pro 4 order because a micros a local Microsoft rep dropped a Surface
4:51 Pro four off with me the next day after I had placed it and I was like oh great
4:55 I don't have to buy one now that's fantastic um then
5:00 so I canceled that then I got an email like two weeks later saying your order
5:05 for the surface book has been cancelled and I was like yo ring ring no I never
5:10 cancelled that I definitely still want it please get your act together because
5:15 I actually need that thank you and they were like oh yeah yeah no it's it's just
5:18 a bug a bunch of orders were a bunch of emails were accidentally sent out it's
5:23 all fine it's all good I was like okay great so then I happened to be digging
5:28 around in my Microsoft account because
5:32 uh some credit card issue something something I had to double check some
5:36 previous transactions and I was like this order
5:39 is cancelled it says cancelled so I
5:43 finally get in touch with someone it's like the live chat is the hardest thing
5:47 to find on their site when you're looking for it when you're not looking
5:50 for it it's like right there like and it's the weirdest thing CU I'm sure half
5:54 of you are going to be like uh yeah is the live chat is like right here that's
5:58 fine but if you go to the contact us page it's not so that was like EA site
6:04 where if you're on if you have Canadian English selected it won't give you the
6:10 phone number at a certain time because
6:13 their English line is open at different times in their French line so if their
6:17 English line is open they won't display the English phone number so you go for
6:22 contact us and they're like we recommend for your problem because it's Advanced
6:25 that you call us here's the number and then it's just blank great so anyway I I
6:30 finally get in touch with someone and it takes forever because like can I get
6:35 your name can I get these security questions can I do this can I you know
6:40 stroke your child's hair gently while you watch like no just can I give you an
6:45 order number can I just give you an order number you look it up he's like no I can't look up your order number unless
6:49 I do all this crap I'm like why I just want to know if my order is
6:56 cancelled so finally they have this phone verification SMS thing I'm like
7:00 here's my number he like oh sorry can we do that again
7:03 like yes fine this is the slowest
7:07 support call that I have ever been on to
7:10 verify that an order is in your system but fine he's like no it's cancelled I'm
7:16 like okay so I really need this he's
7:20 like okay I'll put in a new order I'm like so that means my order date will be
7:24 the 27th not like the 8th when I
7:28 actually ordered it he's like yep I'm like so this is backordered there is
7:32 a weit list I want one now he's like
7:35 there's nothing I can do I'm like so I finally did it I finally played the
7:40 reviewer card I was like look I really need this I have a YouTube channel with
7:45 2 million subscribers it is in your best interest to get me a laptop sooner so I
7:50 can make my video it's like there is
7:53 nothing I can do [ __ ] there is always something you
7:57 can do it's called get off your ass get up go talk to someone and get the
8:03 problem solved because I never canceled my
8:06 order anyway so I'm mad but I'm even
8:10 heard this story I'm not going to let that affect my impression do anything no
8:14 it no he just placed a new no he never he offered me free express shipping
8:17 which is $10 on a $3,000 order so I was
8:21 like that's a nice gesture I'm still pissed but at least I saved $10 $10 $10
8:28 thank you you cany bu McDonald's I kind
8:31 of gross too you know does McDonald's
8:35 have mustard they don't have hot dogs this is
8:39 like the anti- McDonald's Access of Evil right Nowa I don't yeah I don't think
8:44 they have someone might be able to correct I don't really go there like I
8:48 they might have like a mustardy relish but I don't know if they have straight
8:52 up mustard anyway they have relish you can get mustard in packets there can you
8:57 yeah I don't know wait is there the burger would probably have mustard I
9:02 don't know the Big Mac doesn't for sure it's just covered in
9:05 mayo I think I okay it's been a while all right anyway so so Surface Book
9:09 issues they honey mustard so yes thank you honey mustard you are my honey
9:13 mustard oh uh okay let's actually do a
9:16 topic now uh so the Surface Book issues so I and everyone in their dog was
9:20 excited before I went off on that tangent about this thing because it
9:24 looks fantastic um but there appear to
9:27 be a number of issues with people reporting crashes and lockups uh random
9:32 trackpad freezes uh some screen wobble
9:35 due to weight imbalance between the screen and keyboard um wow no ambient
9:40 light sensor controlling the brightness of backlit keys that really seems like a
9:43 very first world problem to me um no quad core CPU options yeah that's kind
9:48 of to be expected like some of these reported issues uh really don't seem
9:52 like that they're not issues they're they're features that you would like to have the Dell 34 in Ultra wide cannot be
9:58 used with the dock that kind of sucks um so it looks like maybe there's some
10:02 bandwidth loss or like a a switching issue or whatever with the DisplayPort
10:06 adapter for the dock um technically 3440
10:10 by 1440 should be perfectly doable on DisplayPort 1.2 in fact um Acer's
10:16 Acer's ultrawide the Predator x34 our sample does 100 htz most people are
10:21 reporting anywhere from the 95 to 100 Hertz range so the actual interface is
10:25 plenty fast so it looks like there's some other kind of issue um this is
10:29 really bad this is where things start to get pretty brutal uh not being able to
10:32 boot with the dock having to unplug and plug it back in
10:37 um uh cannot not being able to detach
10:40 the dock um I've seen people having issues with uh driver crashes when they
10:44 detach the dock that's not actually in our dock but that is something that I've
10:48 seen reported so apparently playing this one I love this one playing MPEG files
10:54 just when it's in laptop mode works fine but if you plug it into the dock it
10:58 gives you this UND decryptable error
11:01 code so I didn't order the doc or unable
11:05 to decode error because I'm planning to use it just as a laptop sltt not also as
11:10 a desktop so I actually won't be able to comment on a lot of these issues um but
11:15 what this has demonstrated to me is that
11:18 I definitely instead of doing like a normal review I need to do more of like
11:23 a long-term Impressions review like like more like an ey switched so you can how
11:28 it yeah so I'll I'll get it all set up and I'll use it for like a couple weeks
11:33 and then I'll I'll let you guys know how it goes but uh that that'll that'll only
11:37 happen when it we're doing with the steam controllers yeah when it
11:41 arrives so so I don't know uh yeah so
11:46 steam controllers a lot of people were like noticing that oh hey so you uh
11:51 posted on Instagram your steam controllers and then you posted on
11:55 Instagram your Xbox Elite controllers and then the Xbox Elite video is out
11:59 already where's hold on where's that steam controller video dog um so you
12:04 want to explain what the methodology is with the steam controller video with the
12:07 stream controller video one we already have a video out from like a while ago
12:12 when I used one at a show and as far as I can tell the time between then and now
12:16 was largely used on manufacturing not changing features um and it's kind of a
12:22 wono controller like testing out the Xbox Elite it's like okay this is an
12:26 Xbox controller but with a bunch of upgraded stuff so that's a lot more
12:30 simple and people would be a lot more familiar with it than a controller that has like touchpads and wono stuff going
12:34 on so I took them home and I'm going to be doing a long-term Impressions thing
12:39 so I've got a few weeks I'm going to try that out and the hope is that um because
12:44 Luke plays video games he will play video games with them um but we actually
12:49 we actually purchased two of them for a couple of reasons so here's actually the
12:53 coverage we did back at PAX East 2015 so
12:56 not not a whole ton of a lot lot has changed since then um but but basically
13:02 the the rationale behind the two controllers was that Luke will always
13:05 use one he has to use a steam controller
13:08 for his gaming until he's done this video and then he's got an extra for any
13:13 guests that come over so at least one guest has to use the steam controller
13:17 and he can get impressions both from himself over the longer term and from
13:22 people who just have to kind of pick it up and and run with it yeah so it should
13:26 make for it should make for a pretty interesting um so it should make for a
13:30 pretty interesting video um I actually am going to cover it more as like a side
13:34 note uh because I've actually got two Steam Machines I don't know if you know
13:38 this I've got two Steam Machines either here already or on Route so I have the
13:43 Zotac one and then I have the Alienware one so the Alienware one for sure comes
13:48 with the steam controller so I will be reviewing the Alienware I think it the
13:53 Windows version is called the alpha but I think it's just called the steam
13:57 machine Alienware steam machine oh if it's not the alpha I'm not I'm not sure
14:00 I'll don't worry I'll I'll sort out all these details before I do the video um
14:05 but I'll be sort of talking about using it I can already tell you guys though
14:08 that if you don't have big hands steam controller is probably not a thing for
14:13 you oh I noticed it immediately when picking
14:17 it up actually yeah so but but we'll see
14:20 my Impressions could change I mean it's really funny because um they probably
14:25 can't hear you very well right now yeah this reminds me of something I've been
14:29 asking for for so long that I feel like
14:34 my request for it has become irrelevant
14:37 so back when I first saw the Xperia Z3
14:41 compact uh I was like oh yeah that's great like an iPhone siiz Android phone
14:46 that um you know is the right size for my hands because I was like yeah all the
14:51 high-end Android phones are so big but
14:55 it's gotten to the point where I've gotten so used to larger phones that
14:59 this thing just feels so small to me now so the Z5 on that subject the Xperia Z5
15:05 compact just arrived today and I'm going to be uh working on my review of that
15:10 next I also have a Z5 premium on Route the one with the 4K display nice and
15:14 then after that is probably going to be the Droid Turbo 2 so I have a full plate
15:20 um on the phone side of things look it's updating um anyway we'll we'll see how
15:24 that goes cuz this will be the first high-end small Android phone that I have
15:30 I think ever used yeah because you didn't use the Z3 combat did you no yeah
15:34 no I I never actually touched one outside of like with a huge like
15:38 security device on the back of it in a store like not enough to get a good
15:41 impression so far this is looking really promising so it looks really nice but
15:47 the it okay the the the difference between this one and I think it was the
15:50 Z3 compact where the spec was very similar to the full size is that this
15:54 one is significantly downgraded in terms of spec like it's got
15:59 no okay but it's got a Snapdragon 810 which is an older processor it's got a
16:04 720p screen which I have made the
16:07 argument and continue to make the argument is just fine for a 4.7 inch
16:11 display um but I'm I've just I need to I
16:16 need to spend some time with it and find out if that if that downgrade of the
16:20 spec matters to me someone's asking what about the Nexus um I don't really have
16:25 any plans to do the 6p or the 5x um they
16:29 both look like P NE e phones to me I I
16:33 yeah I I don't really have anything to say because okay here's something that
16:38 people have been giving me crap about a little bit lately and that is that every
16:42 time I do a monitor video I'm like wow
16:45 it's the best thing ever there's a reason for that and the reason is not
16:50 all the $100 bills that the manufacturer is slipping in my backet Innovation and
16:54 monitors right now there's a lot of innovation and monitors it is moving so
16:59 fast there's a lot of monitors that are coming out that can genuinely say we are
17:03 the first person to do X or Y yes um and
17:07 and and the other thing is that I am pretty selective about the monitors that
17:12 I every okay every once in a while I screw up like that vew Sonic vpu
17:17 whatever the 4K one really nice monitor um but the reason that I requested that
17:21 sample like three months before I ended up doing the video was it was the first
17:26 HDMI 2.0 display that I had seen and so
17:29 that was going to be part of my focus is I really wanted to talk about HDMI 2.0
17:33 but by the time I got to that video because we got wrapped up in moving I
17:36 had already done another HDMI 2.0 display that was like way more relevant
17:41 and I was like oh crap now I don't really have much to say other than hey
17:44 this is a really nice monitor which it is uh but what I generally do is I don't
17:49 even accept a review unit of something
17:52 that doesn't bring a new experience to the table aside from just being a
17:57 monitor so so when people are like oh yeah you know lonus can you review X the
18:03 answer if it's very similar to something I've already done is a lot of the time
18:06 no because I'm not really I am not a non-tech I never going
18:12 to be a non-tech that's just that's what it is I
18:16 am not TFT Central so if you guys are looking for the really nitty-gritty
18:21 details down to the you know the O oscilloscope like you know look at the
18:27 pixel you know rise and fall of voltages blah blah blah if you guys want that
18:31 stuff that stuff's out there but for me it's more about I want to talk about
18:35 what the experience of this product is and what makes it different from what else is out there from an experience
18:39 standpoint so it's very frustrating to do a review of something that's super
18:44 similar to another thing that you've done because it's you want to say
18:47 something new you want to add something to the table you don't want to just be
18:50 like oh whatever have a good day you want to say something interesting and
18:55 when you're basically doing it twice that's really dry so why am I doing this
18:59 because it's the first time I've used a high-end compact Android phone also it
19:03 intrigues me because the lower spec is lower in a way that I don't believe is
19:07 going to bother me uh but it still has a 2700 milliamp battery and with the way
19:12 that yeah with the way that Sony's implementation of Android handles
19:16 battery life plus marshmallow I think it's running marshmallow I'll have to
19:20 double check I could be looking at a phone that legitimately gets me through
19:24 two days so I'm so I'm super stoked on that the reason I'm doing the 5 premium
19:29 is that it'll be the first 4K display that I've seen on a phone so I can really talk about how that changes or
19:33 doesn't change which is what I suspect is going to happen the experience and
19:36 then the reason I'm be doing the Droid Turbo to is because of the shatterproof
19:40 screen and because the Droid Turbo has for an entire year managed to hold the
19:45 throne as my daily driver preferred phone in spite of its very inferior
19:51 camera compared to the LG G4 the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge uh compared to the iPhone
19:56 6 the iPhone 6 s yes so so that
20:01 is whatever I was talking about I don't
20:05 remember what it was anymore it's been a really long time and
20:09 I don't remember either yeah so cool well we were talking about the Z3 compact but I don't remember why we were
20:13 talking about the Z3 compact yeah that's okay all right so here's an article and
20:18 we actually had a really great suggestion from a viewer last week I didn't have time to deal with it before
20:22 the show show today uh but they had
20:27 suggested an all alternate layout for when we're viewing articles for where
20:30 it's like bigger on the one side and then Luke and I are kind of stacked on
20:33 the side that I really liked we're going to do that in the future thank you for that suggestion but for now we're uh for
20:38 now we're sticking with this so this is kind of like the suckiest thing ever and
20:42 there's a lot of really ignorant comments about this unfortunately
20:45 there's a lot of people saying like oh that's like terrible advice just like
20:49 paying the money to to the like Jack
20:53 bums who are like yeah we got some ransomware installed on your computer we
20:58 encrypted all your data you got to pay us to unlock it um they should just like
21:02 they should just like be able to fix it you know what that's the double-edged
21:05 sort of encryption yeah yeah if if they
21:08 were able to fix that people would be freaking out about that yeah you got to
21:12 kind of pick your poison here I guess yeah so basically for those of you who
21:17 don't know what ransomware is what what it is is it's a type of malware that
21:21 gets onto your computer encrypts your data and then sends the encryption key
21:26 back to the ransom they get in touch with you and they basically
21:32 go we have all your data um we may or
21:36 may not do anything with it like they may not even care about doing something
21:40 with the data but basically if you want to no actually hold on okay sorry to be
21:44 clear they don't necessarily have your data they can just have encrypted your
21:49 device has encrypted on your device um sorry sorry sorry I sort of started
21:53 rolling and get misspoke there so basically they go you can't have access
21:57 to your your data unless you pay us this sum of money and we will send you the
22:01 encryption keys and then you can unencrypt your data and go about your
22:05 mer day and hopefully you learned a valuable lesson um and basically the the biggest
22:13 issue here like the biggest targets for this are businesses not individual users
22:17 because individual users what they're going to pay a 100 bucks 150 bucks 200
22:21 bucks like because the Cyber criminals
22:25 here they they don't want to demand ,000
22:28 and get nothing they want to this this
22:31 is a volume game yeah yeah they want to hit a thousand people for 100 bucks each
22:36 and they made 100 Grand that's the point um but if you find a really big fish
22:41 business and you know that you did then you can probably ask a huge amount of
22:45 money now you can start asking for you know 100 Grand 500 Grand however much
22:49 depending on what it is that you've gotten from them you know did you get the did you get the president of the
22:54 company's laptop did you get this did you get that so uh basically the FBI
23:00 issued a note in June identifying crypto wall as the most common ransomware
23:04 affecting individuals and businesses they received 992 complaints between
23:09 April and June of 2014 to 2015 that's
23:12 not that bad no it's not that bad except that the losses are totaling $18 million
23:17 which is very bad for those cases which is very very bad and raises the probably
23:22 targeting businesses thing y even more so they basically said yep the reason
23:26 that a lot of uh a lot lot of folks are getting into ransomware is that it's
23:30 extremely effective um and that the only
23:34 way to avoid it is to back up your data regularly to just restore the infected
23:41 system to a prior state to avoid paying a ransom that's pretty much all there is
23:45 to it and all of the usual hey please you know put on your common sense
23:50 glasses when you're browsing the internet stuff applies but you know the
23:54 cold hard truth of it is that a lot of people don't know and don't don't care
23:58 because the internet plays such a small role in their life aside from like
24:01 needing to use their computer for like Excel common sense is also not enough
24:06 common sense is relative like it's also not like the people that are like oh I
24:11 just won't run an antivirus at all because I know how to use the internet
24:16 that's no sorry but no doesn't work that way
24:22 yeah that and I mean you know the fact that a file is exe is bad yeah yeah it's
24:28 like that's common sense to me but like
24:31 not to my mom or my aunt like why would she know that oh it's a picture I'm
24:35 going to do the thing yeah it could be called cute cat.exe and the email could
24:39 say hey it's a picture of cute cats and like they wouldn't know
24:43 yeah so uh here we go this is fun so
24:46 this is an Indiegogo project that uh in
24:50 the age of the internet was uh was was
24:53 definitely destined for for Success the e ejaculator VR headset
25:00 synced stroking adult
25:03 toy I actually don't know why they
25:07 pixelated this I mean it's just a piece of plastic probably you can show it
25:12 Japan sorry so you can show it in Japan
25:15 what what are you talking is that a thing I don't know is it I thought
25:19 Japanese like porn and stuff you had to pixelated but that's not porn it's a
25:23 piece of plastic but it's a recreation of
25:26 whatever is that is that right I don't they have to do it in like animated
25:30 stuff too so I would assume so huh I don't know the twitch chat will
25:35 probably know yeah I mean yeah yeah they will um so anyway it's
25:40 $130 for the E ejaculator basically I
25:44 think sort of looking at the uh looking at the product here it should be fairly
25:49 self-explanatory what it does what does
25:53 it do it Strokes folks um I thought these things already
25:58 existed so you download the app you connect the app to the E ejaculator you
26:03 put on the headset you navigate using the wireless remote choose your fantasy
26:07 and prepare for you know there you
26:12 go really that's a video what data users
26:16 are saying yep so you guys can definitely go check that out we're not
26:20 going to we're not going to play any of these videos on the WAN Show we're
26:23 trying to keep it somewhat I don't know what are we like
26:26 PG what what's higher PG or PG13 let's go with I
26:31 think PG is the like worst one so yeah
26:34 we're trying to stay PG here um but yeah
26:38 it's going to cost you 130 bucks to uh
26:41 to to get the VR set as an early adopter
26:44 so it includes the device one VR headset one remote one battery one silicone
26:49 sleeve and shipping to the US and Canada is $16 with the rest of the world being
26:56 $24 so um you know what I think we have
27:00 to do it I think we don't really have a choice here straw
27:06 pull will you buy one oh okay I thought
27:10 you GNA do should we buy one I was like whoa should we review it PG-13 is higher
27:15 than PG oh okay okay so then it goes g and PG to PG-13 to R to nc7 then to not
27:22 rated okay maybe we should try and make our show not rated one day all right
27:26 here comes the strong it's
27:29 coming I'm so interested in this I am
27:32 super I am super interested in this too all right let's surprised though that
27:36 they didn't try to launch their Indiegogo in like early 2016 when the
27:41 actual headsets come out yeah but they've got their own uh they've got
27:45 their own like kind of ghetto ghet head yeah it comes with a headset I think you
27:48 just drop your drop your phone in it I haven't I haven't checked out uh phone
27:52 compatibility or anything like that like I actually haven't looked that I haven't
27:57 looked that closely turnup is winning this
28:00 vote Yes is losing this vote but it has
28:04 a lot of votes blah blah blah this is just the beginning we want you to be
28:07 along for the ride wow their campaign is just so cringe just Way Beyond cringe I
28:14 love this here's some of the prototypes there is no way that I would put
28:17 anything of mine anywhere near any of those
28:22 prototypes and that was when they were new
28:25 yeah uh gear Factory manually producing
28:28 gears like they've really they've really put some some thought into this puppy
28:32 here hey there you go that one's not censored oh yeah I don't know 12 Ines
28:38 tall 4 inches wide well I guess I
28:41 couldn't really do the review anyway oh it's oversized too big too big I meant
28:46 you were but oh yeah I tried to give you credit on that one yeah you tried you
28:51 tried but it was no one was going to believe that discret packaging and labels all
28:58 right so let's have okay we won't do another Topic in the meantime let's just go ahead and uh have a look at those
29:03 those results there so will you buy one we've got a whopping 28% of our audience
29:09 that is planning to buy the ejaculator now just to be clear guys we are not
29:13 suggesting that you buy it while it is an Indiegogo campaign I would definitely
29:18 wait for it to actually roll off a real production line I would wait for
29:23 independent I was say wait see if there's a review yeah like it saw off my
29:29 penis at the base things can go wrong with the Surface Book and it's annoying
29:34 things go wrong with this it's probably a little bit
29:38 worse it was
29:42 terrible my life will never be the
29:47 same okay oh wow moving on the worst
29:51 topic we have ever done is
29:54 it I actually legitimately don't know
29:59 all right this is interesting Microsoft has a this is such a sensation oh I was
30:04 I have screen sharing that whole time uh this is such a sensationalist headline
30:08 has Microsoft admitted defeat in the console sales War over on tech radar
30:14 okay that very sensationalist but it uh
30:18 is related to a legitimate piece of news so um Microsoft announced their
30:24 quarterly results and it lacked hard
30:27 Ware shipment metrics so when they were questioned as to why those were absent
30:31 Microsoft's Source responded saying it was no longer using such figures as its
30:36 measurement of success so they are actually going to focus on Xbox Live
30:41 figures as the leading stat um and it
30:44 should be noted that Xbox Live users Rose sharply last quarter growing by 28%
30:49 to 39 million users so would you argue
30:55 that that is a legitimate thing for them to okay so first of all would you say
30:59 that that move has anything to do with Microsoft admitting defeat in the
31:02 console race um no to be completely honest not
31:09 admitting defeat because that's a little harsh but they might be trying to make
31:14 it look prettier because now that they can if when they're doing online stats
31:18 that's something that will continue to grow over time as long as they're not
31:22 losing users whereas Hardware shipment
31:25 might mean that just less people are adopting it yeah which is not
31:29 necessarily meaningful now with that said the Xbox One um what didn't have as
31:35 much adoption even early on compared to PlayStation it was a little rough out of
31:38 the gate compared to the PlayStation 4 but I would look at their $60 a year for
31:44 Xbox Live Gold um
31:48 as indicative of prob more indicative of
31:52 the profitability of that customer because it's already fairly well
31:56 established that in terms of Hardware alone the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One
32:01 were not particularly profitable especially when you compare it to well
32:06 really not anything I mean the console Hardware they were more profitable than
32:09 previous consoles yes cuz they made a little bit of money whereas usually they
32:13 would lose a little bit of money on the console but nothing compared to something like the Wii where it was
32:18 basically powered by like peanut butter and you know elastic happiness yeah
32:24 exactly um I just got Yoshi's woly world
32:27 yeah my God pretty fun you can't be upset while playing that game it's
32:31 actually wonderful it's very fun yeah um
32:35 so so I mean that's never really been an indication of of of of the success of
32:40 the business unit because it doesn't really indicate profitability what it
32:44 does indicate is the installed user base
32:48 so if Microsoft's going to switch metrics and go okay we are less
32:51 interested in how many physical Xbox
32:54 units there are out there and we are more interested in what the installed
32:59 user base of Xbox Live members is
33:03 because that's actually a more meaningful number to someone like a game
33:07 developer how many people are are sitting there paying a subscription to
33:11 use their Xbox and if we're and if we're going to look at that as more indicative
33:14 of the profitability of that transaction someone who bought an Xbox and it
33:19 literally sits on a shelf in their warehouse is not a good customer someone
33:25 who bought an Xbox and uses it for for 5 years paying 60 bucks a year just gave
33:29 you another $300 of money that is not necessarily
33:33 pure profit because a lot of that goes into uh development of things like their
33:37 Cloud assisted rendering or U building
33:41 which apparently isn't helping them that much which no isn't but that doesn't
33:44 mean they weren't working on it and that doesn't mean that wasn't expensive I'm
33:48 just saying that that the hardware is just a transaction here's a piece of
33:52 Hardware here's how much it cost us to build it here you go and if that person
33:55 buys a bunch of games then great but games and live memberships are still
34:00 being looked at as indicators of success so I totally disagree with that headline
34:06 and I actually agree quite strongly with Microsoft changing the way that they're
34:10 measuring the success of a console to look more at software sales and
34:14 membership sales because that's it's more logical and it's more favorable for
34:17 them I don't necessarily think it was admitting defeat they're not stopping
34:20 producing Xbox Ones and just being like oh well you guys won yeah and if you
34:25 know if Sony sells let's let's say the lifetime of the PlayStation 4 and the
34:28 Xbox One you know if Sony sells 100 million and Microsoft sells 60
34:33 million and Microsoft made a bunch of money on a bunch of people buying Xbox
34:37 Live memberships and bought a bunch of games um I I was looking into it
34:42 apparently the Xbox One is beating the PlayStation 4 in terms of game sales
34:46 so hey there's there's lots of different ways to be successful if you sell 60
34:50 million units is that a failure well I would probably say no I don't think you
34:54 necessarily won in terms of hard Ware sales yes but overall doesn't there's
34:59 more categories to look at that being said using the Xbox One a little bit for
35:05 the controller review God I hate that thing holy crap
35:10 not the controller right you liked the controll the controller was great okayer
35:13 was awesome I don't like Xbox One controllers I was like what video did I
35:17 watch no I don't like Xbox One controllers but the elite is actually
35:20 pretty solid and that's largely because of the trigger stops the trigger stops I
35:24 hate the normal triggers for me the other big one on the elite controller
35:27 and as much as this is a stupid thing where you could kind of go well actually lonus the solution to that is just to go
35:31 buy an Xbox 360 controller is I really really don't like the abxy buttons on
35:37 the Xbox One controller they're too I want to say Ticky I know that's
35:42 not a word like the tactile feel is feedback that yeah yeah like like I I
35:47 actually like the kind of mushier feel
35:50 of the Xbox 360 controller and the Xbox Elite feel too cuz saber too th like
35:55 mechanical I used the Sabertooth for about 4 seconds and then I handed it to
35:59 you to do the review if you recall how
36:02 that went down yeah so that's why you handed that off
36:07 well I was super stoked on it I was like super excited I was like yeah high-end
36:11 controller man let's do
36:14 this Luke's job because I I mean okay to
36:19 be clear I could have done it I could have done it but it would have been
36:22 needlessly negative because a lot of people like that and so handing it to
36:26 someone who's willing to look at it AIT more objectively I think is being more
36:30 fair to the prodct like if I see a product that I look at and I go I cannot
36:34 review this objectively like I you did the uh the note two or three I think so
36:40 note three or something like that a long time ago because I looked at it and I
36:44 went this is way too big I cannot hold it my entire review is going to be about
36:47 how I dropped it and broke it why am I going to bother to to
36:51 subject you guys to this so got people
36:55 saying stop rambling stop watching this show this this whole show is
36:59 rambling what yeah what did you what do
37:03 you think this was I'm dressed as a wiener we had a miscommunication issue
37:08 going on because that's not what this is okay to be clear I don't actually want you to stop oh he's gone oh I I want
37:14 everyone to watch mustard can but I also want to ramble uh okay let's move on to
37:17 our next thing um Sennheiser Good Guys
37:21 Sennheiser opens up their corporate building to refugees whoa what yeah I
37:25 mean there's not whole lot to really say about this and the news source is in
37:29 German so yes I will be Translating that thank you uh so given the acute
37:34 situation Sennheiser has the Hanover region offered to accommodate refugees
37:38 for free in their corporate building commitment of the company is exemplary
37:42 and deserves the highest recognition etc etc that is the sub headline so uh there
37:46 you go the uh pretty badass they've got up to 300 refugees that are housed there
37:52 and I could tell you having been to sennheiser's facility there
37:57 wow that is some nice Refugee housing yeah it's a super super nice place very
38:02 clean the cafeteria is great I wonder if they get access to the cafeteria that
38:05 food was actually really good I really doubt it like an extra 300 people would
38:09 put a lot ofad well a lot of load on the staff like it's not what are they going
38:13 to double their staff overnight right
38:16 um but yeah so in March 2016 uh the
38:20 building can be converted into a
38:23 dormatory for about 150 people will also be used as a Reception Center and a
38:27 place for social Gatherings for refugees so uh cool stuff I mean we we we love
38:32 those guys it's no secret we've worked with Sennheiser in the past they
38:36 sponsored our trip to um that stupid show Brandon lik neb sorry Sennheiser
38:42 has opened a corporate building in
38:45 Handover I don't remember exactly what region a corporate building sorry not
38:50 the HQ yeah how it's worded it sounds like it might be somewhere else yeah it
38:54 it looks like it's a different one interesting okay um so anyway probably
38:57 still super nice yeah the point is Good Guys Sennheiser we like those guys we've
39:00 worked with them a fair bit all
39:07 right wow whoa this I guess neither of
39:11 us have read this one I missed this I straight up missed this and I apologize
39:15 because this is the best thing ever single player games with dead
39:20 authentication servers ruled dmca exempt
39:24 so it is officially appears I'm going to
39:27 go through the notes because whenever whenever Luke and I haven't haven't gone
39:30 through something we do usually have pretty good notes on it um back in April
39:35 a petition was launched to exempt abandoned games from Digital Millennium
39:39 Copyright Act so that is applying to singleplayer games with their servers
39:43 shut down personally I think this should apply to multiplayer games with their servers shut down as well but hopefully
39:48 we'll get there eventually yep uh so basically page 52 to 56 of the US
39:54 copyright offices ruling on the petition allow ing for modification and copying
39:59 of video games only if they have single player components which require online
40:03 authentication to check uh the games this would mean that there would be able
40:07 to be very legal websites Distributing
40:10 games yes that's pretty epic I'm I'm
40:14 interested as to who's going to jump on that that's very interesting stuff so
40:18 the games must have been shutdown abandoned for at least 6 months I mean
40:21 this is such good news because and the timing is actually not too bad because
40:26 right now it's not a huge issue there
40:29 aren't too many games but it's going to be that way but it's going to be massive
40:34 it is going to be a massive problem
40:37 although one thing that I'm a little bit worried about is this is going to even
40:41 more incentivize stupid useless multiplayer which happens a lot and I'm
40:46 kind of tired of it like you mean just unnecessary multiplayer modules that
40:51 contribute nothing well hold on a second because allowing only if they have
40:57 single player components which require online authentification to check so yeah
41:01 so if you if you have online authentification uh authentification
41:05 authentification if you have onl online authentification and you have single
41:09 player that requires it then get wrecked uh basically it is legal to copy your
41:13 game um epic so the US copyright will permit
41:18 preservationists to modify console firmware in order to make games playable
41:22 only if used for non-commercial purposes in institutions that are open to the
41:26 public Andor unaffiliated researchers that so I would I would expect that
41:31 someone like a private collector SL Enthusiast could consider themselves a
41:37 researcher like I mean I think this is going to be it the thing okay the thing
41:41 about moving the line to make it gray is
41:45 that it actually just kind of opens up more gray area because in the past it
41:48 was very black and white um it still
41:52 does not allow for video game owners to modify games for local or multiplayer
41:57 play so it's very specific what is
42:01 allowed and what is not if it has a single player component that requires
42:05 online authentification authentication then you can unlock that
42:11 functionality and copy it so that people can use it and not for commercial use
42:16 and all that kind of stuff that is basically fantastic news and absolutely
42:20 love it I'm sure you could still set up like a please donate to my
42:23 PayPal yeah I don't know because for
42:27 commercial use is pretty broad but donate usage yeah if you're making a
42:34 certain amount of money I think it's commercial regardless of whether it's a donation or not like if the lonus tech
42:39 tips forum is run purely off of donations which it is sort of I mean no
42:45 there's ads on it okay no but if it was run purely off of donations don't make a
42:49 ton CU ad block well there's a lot of
42:53 reasons the ads don't make a ton of money also that um we're not going to
42:58 get into that um but if it was run
43:01 purely off of donations but it was making you know a fair amount of money a
43:05 month like you guys can look up I think how many gold contributors and silver
43:08 contributors we have like our community is awesome like we can run like the The
43:12 Forum Community off of our contributors it's great just inhaled part of my
43:16 costume that is not recommended
43:19 um yeah I'm pretty sure that is still a commercial Endeavor even if it's donated
43:25 okay yeah I just know a lot of like not paid mods
43:29 sites still have donate buttons but that is not legal at all so I don't know yeah
43:36 I think that's exactly it I think it's more of a slightly legal it's Blind Eye
43:40 as opposed to Legal yeah got a lot of
43:43 people that are um that are asking why the ads don't
43:49 make a ton of money there basically there's a lot of reasons but I mean in
43:54 short I guess banner ads on websites are not a way to get rich and we have rules
44:00 because we laid out these rules early on
44:03 on the W show publicly we don't want like animated ads or popup ads audio ads
44:09 a few have slipped through the cracks I can assure you that was 100%
44:13 unintentional neither Luke nor I uh intended for those to be there and
44:17 that's a whole other long story yeah um
44:20 that we are definitely not going to get into all right what else we got here oh
44:25 this is cool stuff the FDA approves a cancer killing
44:29 virus yes my friends you can have a
44:33 virus get in your body and it can attack cancer now to be
44:39 clear this is not like you know I don't
44:43 want to I don't want to oversell this this is not the answer to
44:47 cancer um it's basically specific to
44:51 skin cancer it is a specific drug it's
44:54 called hm okay whatever I'm not even going to try um and it only extends the
45:02 patient's life by I believe it was an estimated about 4.4
45:08 months that's something okay and shrunk
45:12 tumors for at least 6 months in 16% of
45:15 patients so it is doing things but it's
45:19 not like this is the magic Silver Bullet
45:22 but we've got something that's cool but it's the first it's the first in in like
45:27 a new class of ways to attack cancer
45:31 it's something that's been highly experimental yeah nothing's ever thank
45:35 you nothing's ever been FDA approved up until now and that's what's exciting
45:40 about it is that now a lot of the experiments that have been going on
45:43 behind the scenes could be closer to
45:47 being available to people um it's not cheap this is always the case with new
45:52 drugs I mean I was actually I was talking to my wife about it most of you
45:55 probably don't know this but my wife's a pharmacist so she um knows a few things
46:00 about drugs and stuff and she was saying
46:04 because I was like I was talking about like how it's you know such a load of
46:08 crap like how expensive some drugs are like uh I don't remember if we covered
46:12 this on the W show but the Canadian government was actually suing a drug
46:15 company over the price of their drug in Canada they were like this is ridiculous
46:19 you know we're providing we're providing Health Care to our citizens we don't
46:24 want to pay this much this is absurd um it like tens of thousands of dollars for
46:28 a dose or something stupid like that like it ridiculous um but she was saying
46:32 like the reason for that is that the cost of developing a drug is a super
46:36 high and the cost of developing all the
46:40 drugs that never get approved and never
46:43 go anywhere is also super high so when
46:46 you make that one drug that makes it you have to make up for all of that and I'm
46:50 like yeah okay I get that the pharmaceutical industry is also like
46:53 super corrupt and messed up it's also super corrupt so that that that is also
46:58 a factor um but anyway so there you go
47:02 at least we're making progress hopefully cancer is not a thing at some point in
47:06 the near future and that would be good for everyone y
47:11 okay except cancer cells isn't that like straight up impossible what I've heard
47:16 that there like definitely will never be an absolute
47:20 cure I don't know I've heard that like we might be able to take it back out hm
47:25 or or something I don't know okay anyway uh not doctors sponsors for today I
47:30 thought uh do we have the kit for the third
47:34 one oh yeah here it
47:38 is this thing is so bad I love this
47:41 thing and it's covered by the lower third that's
47:45 awesome first sper I fix it I fix it so
47:51 basically what can we say about iix it that hasn't already been said before
47:55 they have great guides on their website if you've ever searched well well thank
48:00 you if you've ever if you've ever searched for how to
48:06 repair or tear down a laptop or a tablet
48:09 or a cell phone or even some all-in-one computers and like all kinds of other
48:13 stuff actually you've probably come across iix it you'll know it's iix it
48:17 because it's the site with the great pictures and the instructions that are
48:21 actually easy for normal people to follow and what you probably don't know
48:26 or maybe don't know unless you watch this show because we talk about it all the time is that aside from their guides
48:31 they also have their tools so this is there oh I forget what this one is
48:35 actually called This is the repair business tool kit and it's got a whole
48:39 whack ton of their tools pretty much everything you would like normally need
48:44 okay so anti-static gear multimeter
48:48 these plastic cards that are good for like prying things and and flattening
48:52 things and having just a set of plastic card is actually more helpful than you
48:55 realize yep ni to use my like debit and credit cards and that's just not a good
48:59 idea really nice microfiber cleaning cloth I've actually I've taken this kit
49:04 apart and put it back together improperly enough times that I'm really
49:08 not sure where everything is inside of it their Protek tool kit which I use all
49:12 the time I think we're up to like five of them here but I don't think we can
49:16 ever have enough of them cuz it's gotten to the point where instead of assigning
49:19 them to people and then us having to remember where they are we just leave them in all the places where we might
49:23 have to do anything and then we're covered uh their other screwdriver tool kit with
49:28 the bigger screwdrivers super helpful cuz sometimes having a dedicated
49:31 screwdriver that has a longer skin or neck someone D and put one of our other
49:35 prot Tech Tool kits in here uh cleaning solution Work Mat do you have the like
49:40 jelly tube thing the magnetic thing for putting all your screws and labeling
49:43 where they go suction cups for taking
49:47 off uh taking off screens and stuff like that uh prying tools that look like they
49:51 fell out of one of the Protech tool kits way to go whoever did that ah yes there
49:56 we go the heating pad for uh loosening glue that's like my favorite thing in
50:00 the whole kit so you microwave it if I recall correctly yep microwave only one
50:05 eye opener at a time for 30 seconds uh
50:08 anyway so there you go if you want to fix anything use
50:13 professional tools because it actually really does help a lot and if you have a
50:17 purchase of $50 or more that you want to make over on iFix it.com you can save
50:20 $10 by using offer code
50:24 Linus let's move on to ah yes Logitech
50:27 so they've got their new gaming headsets out there I am in progress on my review
50:32 so stay tuned for that but in short uh this is the g633 and g933 which are uh
50:40 USB or analog wired or Wireless versions of
50:45 pretty much the same thing they've completely re-engineered this from
50:48 scratch acknowledging everything that was not that fantastic about the g230
50:53 and the g430 and they've got a truly
50:56 truly high-end option that they're really really proud of so it's got
50:59 support for 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound they've got 40 mm Pro G audio drivers
51:05 they've got adjustable RGB lighting that actually looks surprisingly good uh the
51:09 like the the lighting effect is very even I was surprised um I hadn't
51:12 actually really used them Luke had the first hands on because he went down to
51:16 uh down to logitech's place to check it out it's got a cardioid boom mic mic
51:20 that oh this is another thing I discovered it's got like a cool little noise it makes when you mute it I was
51:25 like oh that's handy I I was using it for a conference call the other day okay
51:28 cuz I was like oh crap I'm on this call
51:31 I uh I super need to be able to work on stuff because this is a super dumb call
51:37 and and everything they're saying is pointless but I really need to be here
51:42 in case there's like some little nugget of useful information so I threw on the
51:45 wireless headphones and I was working on some server crap in the time um I got a
51:49 link for you guys to check it out boom
51:52 right there just like that and finally
51:56 fresh books actually this is cool so
52:00 I'll I'll do really brief rundown new feature yes really cool new feature so
52:03 fresh books online accounting great for small businesses computer repair
52:08 Plumbing whatever else it is you got an online tool that lets you track your
52:11 hours uh submit invoices to clients get paid through the app and here it is my
52:17 friends just launched their deposits
52:21 feature so let's say for example you were me like eight years ago painting
52:26 houses in the summer you take deposits from people because otherwise oh man let
52:32 me tell you doing something like a house painting job and not taking a deposit
52:36 you would show up on the day that you were supposed to be there and like the
52:39 house would already be painted they would forget who you were like seriously
52:43 there's a lot of benefits to taking a mere 10% refundable deposit um so they
52:48 just launched their deposits feature so when you create a new invoice you'll see the option to request a deposit at the
52:53 bottom of that invoice and all the usual things that you would normally do so
52:56 submitting that online having them be able to pay through their credit card
52:59 through fresh books all that still Bueno
53:03 but now you can do deposits super helpful super awesome stuff love it
53:08 absolutely love it freshbooks is one of those sponsors we've been using for a
53:12 long time um or rather we've been like we've been doing for a long
53:18 time and we never got an STD once oh he
53:23 went there sorry it was fresh yeah fresh books has been one of our sponsors for a
53:27 long time I have yet to receive a complaint about fresh books and I have
53:31 said that before about fresh books and didn't receive a complaint usually when
53:35 I say that like people go one oh well I had a problem or whatever one person is
53:39 like um actually I had one issue um so
53:43 anyway head over to freshbooks.com and claim your free trial today now there's
53:48 less reasons to complain cuz now you can take deposits yeah I'm I'm liking that
53:52 that's awesome that would have been great for me when I was doing the whole house painting thing that's great for
53:57 anyone that does like large project things mhm because you're committing a
54:01 lot too if you show up with paint and stuff like show up with supplies yep oh
54:05 you can get screwed by not taking a deposit even if you take a deposit you
54:09 can get screwed if they're just like yep we're not doing it just not as hard okay
54:13 well I guess I've got this van full of like metal thanks for that yeah yeah I'm
54:19 sure that these custom cut pieces will be returnable to the place I got them
54:24 jerk
54:28 oh this is great Steam Community discussions is our source for this
54:32 particular topic here Batman Arkham
54:35 Knight is back okay just in time for
54:40 Halloween which by the way is why we're dressed up for those of you just in case
54:43 no one got it I did not see this in the dock which is fine but I heard that the
54:49 they have a new screenshot thing for it remember how there was this the speed
54:53 limit 30 the what the the Batman Arkham Knight
54:57 it had like a advertisement thing there's a speed limit sign I've heard
55:02 that there's a new one that say 60 on it really I saw it somewhere I saw the
55:06 picture but I couldn't tell if it was photo edited or not so funny I don't
55:09 know if that was true I'm sure twitch chat will let us know so if that was a
55:12 real picture awesome if it wasn't like I don't have a link for it so I don't know
55:17 people thought the costumes were for a stretch goal it is October 30th where
55:21 we're from in fact it is October 31st
55:25 first like over the pond so this is this is so funny this is so funny um people
55:30 are like yeah it's still broken they're apologizing by giving games that most
55:33 people own oh people are saying yes it's
55:36 real they changed it but then twitch chat is full of trolls love you guys
55:41 dearly all eight freaking thousand of you that are watching the show right now
55:44 you guys are all awesome but you're a bunch of trolls I love you you're a
55:49 bunch of trolls um so so I I yeah I straight up can't believe anything they
55:53 say but uh basically they're still working on GPU support for S and
55:58 Crossfire which is like as far as PC
56:02 features go basically it especially given their
56:07 close relationship with NVIDIA it's like I'm sure NVIDIA would be more than happy
56:12 to straight up send software Engineers to go fix it for them they do that they
56:17 actually do do that it's the way it's meant to be played title it has
56:22 Gameworks NVIDIA's involvement is real
56:25 if they're not supporting SLI it is straight up
56:28 negligent sorry um Windows 10 users this
56:33 is a quote we found that having at least 12 Gigabytes of system RAM on a PC
56:37 allows the game to operate without paging because there's still a hard drive paging issue with some gpus uh
56:43 that may occur after extended gameplay sessions and they suggest relaunching
56:46 the game to solve issues like these are still some pretty gamebreaking bugs um
56:52 which is really unfortunate it's just going to be another one of those games that I just super ignore I'll never get
56:56 it and that's totally okay yeah I mean like I like I said I I honestly like I
57:00 even I saw this on the dock but I didn't dig too far into it because it's one of
57:03 those things where there's like there's an article and then there's like the 18
57:07 pages of Reddit discussion that has most of the meat of the issue and that I'm
57:10 sure twitch is is oh apparently sound's cutting
57:13 out we have so many problems with USB cables no I don't think that's the issue
57:18 I think they might just be trolling me cuz no one else is talking well you
57:21 called the moat for trolling they're probably trolling
57:25 you got me you got me again um so anyway
57:29 so my my issue with the uh so my issue with the game is just that it's kind of
57:33 a turd anyway so
57:39 yeah speaking of kind of a turd I heard that Assassin's Creed Syndicate had like
57:44 very very low uh purchases yeah oh yeah
57:49 that that I don't think this is in the dock I don't think this was even necessarily from this week no I heard it
57:54 was the worst yet yeah Assassin's Creed
57:57 Syndicate worst episode ever let's see
58:01 if that brings up uh no that just brings
58:04 up some Let's Plays top seven Assassin's
58:07 Creed games ranked worst to best um whoa what is this list where is
58:13 Unity on this black flag was awesome I
58:16 could see Black Flag in number one then Revelations then two then one then
58:20 Brotherhood then Liberation then three oh Unity is just not on the list
58:25 but it's from November 2014
58:30 wow oh my goodness I would mostly agree with that list funny so this is this
58:35 article is from past magazine.com that is that is I made
58:39 Shuffle one or two here but like no major changes funny um okay well that
58:44 that that was it so Assassin's Creed s to get worst sales let's see let's see
58:48 if we can pull that up oh apparently they are second worst second worst in
58:52 series as fatigue set and I don't think it has anything to do with fatigue
58:56 setting in um I would love to play more
59:00 really good Assassin's Creed games if they felt like Assassin's Creed 2 and
59:05 the iterations of Two And if they felt like Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag holy
59:09 crap that game was awesome and like you know they've still got it in them
59:13 because three was trash terrible game
59:16 and then four was great four was so good
59:19 and they should have iterated off of four Why did Why did why did our run
59:23 with that dude that remember his name end so quickly I don't know all right
59:28 what else we got here um oh the cancer
59:32 killing virus is in here twice oh oh right um you know what
59:39 you'll have to do some kind of topic while I compile all the things for that
59:43 okay I'm going to talk about uh Tesla then so it's like are you oh no I'll
59:48 talk you don't want to talk about VR that would be that would be even less
59:52 your thing why don't you just talk about
59:55 Oculus well let's you know what let's just you know let to call let's not call
59:58 it the wow anymore let's call it the Luke Luke lafrenier Oculus test we had
60:03 one of those yeah I know you did we we had an Oculus hour I remember that when
60:07 they got acquired by Facebook that was like my favorite W
60:11 show ever anyways as onhub SRT ac1 1900
60:16 router clean design onhub app can
60:19 you wave control seven antennas 1900
60:25 you guys know all that kind of stuff because I did the review um basically
60:28 it's from ASUS this time I don't think that review is on YouTube yet oh so it's
60:32 coming soon and you'll know all that stuff um but I'm not going to bother go
60:36 through all of it right now because the review is coming and you should just watch that it's surprisingly good I was
60:41 actually really really impressed bear in mind a lot of the things you liked about
60:45 that may not necessarily be applicable to the ASUS version because it is
60:49 different Hardware it is different Hardware so you
60:53 should talk probably more more about the onhub experience the onhub experience is
60:58 a super super super super super super
61:02 super super simplified router experience
61:05 there's only one land port uh there's basically no configuration options all
61:10 of that sounds horrible and it kind of is um but it's really powerful it's
61:16 Wi-Fi is very good um the range on it is really strong the speed through walls
61:21 and different other obstacles is very consistent very fast for what it is um
61:27 and that's really cool and one thing that I like a lot is that all of the
61:30 control that it does have is through an app that you can access from anywhere
61:34 and I know that's not a brand new thing but having it be so simplified and so
61:38 easy to do basic things and impossible
61:41 to do Advanced things I know but so easy to do basic things means you can set up
61:45 one of these at your mom's house or your grandma's house or whoever's house and
61:50 it will probably go far enough and it will probably be fast enough and it's
61:54 very good at managing what channel it's on and then if there are any major
61:58 problems you can probably just solve them through the app so yeah it's
62:02 actually a surprisingly good router I was expecting when I started doing the
62:05 review to hate it and at the end I kind
62:09 of sort of wanted one for my place really yeah even with so little control
62:14 my Wi-Fi is terrible I thought you're using that Mari thing no oh what
62:20 happened only n oh yeah yeah right
62:24 that's right yeah so like and the AC
62:27 rotor that I have is like craptastic so if I use Wi-Fi for too long I just have
62:31 to like disconnect and reconnect constantly because it'll just stop serving me
62:36 Wi-Fi all right so I am ready I am ready
62:40 friends um I would definitely like more
62:43 control and that would actually be a huge problem but
62:46 anyways okay so I'm actually going to hide us so I've had a lot of people
62:50 asking are the lonus tech tips Edition fans that you showed off
62:54 available for purchase and the answer before was no because we were still
62:59 waiting to get orders from all the um
63:02 the Retail Partners um but everybody has their
63:07 orders in the fans are either shipped or
63:12 shipping very very soon across the board
63:16 so the fans are officially available so
63:19 I'm actually going to you know what I'm going to pick on performance PCS because check this out they for nothing through
63:26 Banner space on the side and a headline
63:29 Banner at us for uh for people to find the fans so that that's pretty cool so
63:33 the retailers that are carrying them are performance PCS in the US and you can
63:39 actually I can hey this is a good opportunity for me to audit everyone's
63:43 uh audit everyone's sites and make sure that they've got all the all the pictures up look at that very nice so
63:48 you've got front and back view of the fan Brandon did a great job of the
63:51 product photos didn't he he did they like actually look like profession
63:56 he took forever of course he did but he did a really good job of course he did
64:00 so you can see the uh yeah there you go you can see the the the orange grommets
64:05 this is cool so this is a neat feature sort of a feature I don't know so it
64:08 comes with a replacement for the orange Fan Hub cover uh like the fanhub sticker
64:13 that's just monochrome so it just that's cool just because you want to take the
64:16 bumpers off and make it really just kind of black and white fan just a black
64:21 special edition fan so the small one right there is is an aluminum back case
64:24 badge and then the big one is an aluminum backed um Fan Hub sticker that
64:28 you would use to cover this one yep aluminum stickers man so you would cover
64:33 up this one and then you can actually pull the rubber uh the rubber noise
64:38 isolators off and it'll be completely black SLS silver if you if you go ahead
64:43 and uh and do that so here you go that's what the complete breakfast looks like
64:47 that's everything it comes with the fan the extension the noise reduction
64:51 adapter the uh the noise reducing orange grommets screws the case badge and the
64:57 replacement fanhub sticker so it's available and I had a lot of people
65:00 asking is it available in 140mm yes both
65:04 the NF F12 and the NF A14 version are
65:08 available and so performance PCS in the
65:12 US overclockers doc. in the UK boom and
65:18 this is cool so the way that we handled msrps is the sanity way where it's just
65:25 a straight currency conversion yay we didn't screw over the
65:30 UK or like other places y so straight
65:33 currency conversion um in Australia it
65:36 is PL computers and the Aussies are probably looking at that going well we
65:40 got screwed it's like I'm sorry your dollar sucks but that actually doesn't change my cost on the
65:45 fan so so yeah our dollar sucks too and
65:50 to be clear you guys the reason they're so expensive is that nocta fans aren't
65:55 cheap in the first place so yeah and
65:58 then in a in a move that surprised absolutely no one the Canadian carrier
66:03 for these will be NC so so my Bros over
66:07 at ncx also have the nf2 and the nfa1 14
66:11 listed so regardless of who you order from they should be getting them around
66:16 the same time give or take a couple of days but if you guys are down for some
66:21 LT Edition fans then check it out yeah yes we know they're expensive no we
66:26 don't expect people to buy a bunch and kit out their whole case uh we only made
66:31 4,000 of them so it's more like if
66:34 someone wanted to have like one 140 mm
66:38 special edition fan for the back of their case that's kind of what we're
66:41 expecting people to do I already know from talking to Performance PCS who by
66:46 the way has already sold through almost a fifth of his allocation of 120
66:51 Ms so from talking to perform handk over
66:54 at performance PCS um the feedback is that lots of people are buying more than
66:59 one but um we just we're doing it as a limited edition thing if they sell out
67:04 really fast we might do more but it is not clear if we will do any more and if
67:08 we do do more it's quite possible we would just rerun the 120 because right
67:13 now the 140s for obvious reasons are selling quite a bit slower yeah so um so
67:18 there you go there are some people talking about New Zealand in general if
67:22 there isn't a store in their region is is there a process that people go
67:25 through to do something what the best
67:28 way I believe at least a couple of the retailers do ship internationally NC
67:33 does for sure yeah I believe performance PCS doeses because they've shipped stuff
67:38 to me and I'm in Canada so they're in the US um also ships up to me and
67:42 overclockers doco.com
67:54 ships within Europe so so I would expect Europeans to order from overclockers
67:58 co.uk I would expect Americans to order from performance PCS Canadians to order
68:03 from NC um if for whatever reason
68:06 someone else doesn't ship to uh your area NCIX would be a good bet because I
68:10 know they ship pretty much worldwide and then PL is there to cover our Australian
68:15 and I would assume shipping to New Zealand would be cheaper from plle than
68:19 from like NC over the Pacific Ocean so that was kind of my thought there as
68:23 well yeah yeah yeah so there you go people are
68:26 saying overclocker ships everywhere there you go so basically everyone
68:30 probably ships everywhere yeah and I know that shipping is expensive there is
68:35 not a lot I can do about that because we weren't like I'm not looking to get into
68:39 the retail computer hardware business that is actually not my business model
68:44 at all uh this fan you know what maybe I'll talk about the story of this fan
68:49 been a long time coming so sure go ahead this fan has been a very long time
68:54 coming I'll be back in the first time we teased this fan we were doing the W show
69:00 in Luke's old office at the old place still we hadn't actually moved into the
69:05 room where we ended up doing the W show for the rest of the time that we were in
69:08 the old office and all we teased was that like I think we said something
69:14 along the lines of like we drive so much we knocked out Knock to his site by
69:19 linking to it uh because everyone on the W show rushed over there and we were
69:23 like we drive so much traffic for Noctua and they don't do any advertising with
69:27 us but we just love the product so they should do a custom fan for us and that
69:33 was sort of where the seed was planted and so ever since then I've been pushing
69:37 them I've been like look I advocate your
69:40 product because I love it because I trust it because I've seen the return
69:44 numbers like I was the product manager for Noctua and a number of other fan
69:48 lines and I had access to information from all of them I was the category manager for fans at NC so I was like I
69:54 trust the product I know it's reliable I know it performs great I've got all these reasons that I love it but you
69:59 guys don't believe in advertising in in
70:02 these ways that we do advertising so I
70:05 want a custom fan and I had a lot of people when we teased the idea that we
70:10 wanted to do a custom fan um it just
70:13 looked cool we had a lot of people saying oh are you going to do it with this are you going to do it with that are you going to do with that I
70:18 basically dug in my heels and I said no we are doing it with the nff 12 and if
70:22 we can't do it with the n12 I'm not doing it with anything because I know
70:26 it's expensive we could have done a 9.99 LT Edition fan 100% I could have done
70:32 that no problem but the reason that we're doing this is because this is our
70:36 F the first time that we're putting our name on an actual computer product that
70:41 you put in your computer so I didn't want anything that I wasn't 100% certain
70:46 of so I was like nope we're doing with that or we're doing it with nothing um
70:50 so I have waited this must be about two years now until they finally agreed a
70:55 number of months ago to actually do it we reached an agreement about you know
71:00 what we would be able to customize what we wouldn't we didn't customize much
71:04 because I'm not a I'm not an engineer in fact it comes with a with a little note
71:08 from me inside the inside the package where I explain I'm not an engineer I
71:12 did not design your fan and that is a good thing we didn't change much because
71:16 it made the importing of the product simpler it didn't have to go through any
71:19 recertification processes or anything like that um because we meant for it to
71:24 just be hey here's a cool product that is good that has our name on it that
71:29 we're okay with that and that they can't read it at all because Fanboy it says
71:34 because Fanboy and fan is in in quote marks and that if you want to contribute
71:39 to L's Tech tips but you don't want a shirt or you don't want a badge next to
71:43 your name on The Forum but hey you do need a new fan and you don't mind
71:46 spending a couple bucks for high quality fan go for it and one thing L fan that I
71:52 would pimp right now for for Noctua is that they have swappable colors of their
71:56 noise dampening yeah those are coming so actually if you buy the LTT Edition fan
72:02 which is I believe about the same price as the industrial ones although not
72:05 waterproof or dust proof it's just the standard fan but it is about as
72:09 expensive as the Industrials um it runs at a lower RPM by default so the
72:14 Industrials are kind of loud though they are exactly so even when you control
72:18 them you can't control them as low as you can a regular nf12 so if you just
72:22 want a black ff2 and you want to swap
72:25 out the uh the colors of the corner pieces which Noctua has kits coming or
72:30 you just want a black fan it's actually a great option if you were going to buy
72:34 Noctua anyway and you just want a black fan so there you go people are saying
72:40 restock them to the US uh these are pre-orders they are actually not shipped
72:43 yet there will be plenty for all uh everyone every retailer that I listed
72:48 those are all pre-orders uh but don't worry the product is good I have held it
72:52 in my hands it is awesome and uh yeah
72:55 can you put them on a radiator it's an n12 it is about as good as it gets for a
72:59 radiator it's yeah or it's an nfa1 14 which is also very good for a radiator
73:05 uh great for radiators great for heat sinks pretty good for just case air flow
73:09 but like overkill for case air flow you don't need that kind of static pressure
73:13 uh very good for things like hard drive cages it's got very directed air flow
73:17 very high static pressure so anywhere where you've got a tight Grill you've
73:20 got uh any obstructions like hard drive cages heat sink fins radiator fins this
73:24 is a fantastic fan why not LED fans because LED fans are just put LEDs in
73:30 your system yeah it's way better yes way
73:34 better all right there's like pretty good LED strips these days and you can
73:38 get ones that like you can change the color of with the remote and stuff like
73:42 get those ones all right let's go ahead and uh you know what we're oh where
73:48 should we put links to all that stuff like should I just put links
73:51 to like you know what why don't I just do do links in the chat of of each one
73:55 so there you go for the Canadians there's ncx and I'm sure you guys are
74:00 super smart and you can find the other version of The Fan if you really want um
74:04 so there's there's PL if you guys haven't heard of any of these stores
74:07 then uh then great and um we actually oh
74:10 this is more more like I'm sorry I don't I don't want to like waste your guys
74:15 time so if you're bored of this then just let me know but we've also got some
74:18 pretty exciting other merch news um our
74:22 sample arrived yes is he here uh I doubt
74:25 it you can go check do you want to see if he's here but I have a picture like I have a picture that we posted on Twitter
74:30 I know but it's way cooler if we can show it in person yeah um so we got our
74:34 sample of the lonus tech tips when
74:38 hoodie uh from G8 so if you guys have
74:41 ever seen like the NVIDIA land hoodie that they did that was freaking awesome
74:45 basically I got one of those this is also an an incredibly long story so I
74:50 got one of those two years ago
74:54 at NVIDIA's gsync launch event that's
74:57 when the seed was planted for this and it has taken this long to go through all
75:02 the iterations of Designing this all the waiting all the just oh it took oh it
75:07 took forever we just didn't have time to work on it and and it was also timec
75:10 consuming but we got our sample of the LT Lan hoodie and uh that will be
75:16 available in like I don't know 16 weeks or something like that like it's it's a
75:19 ways out but um what I'm kind of
75:22 thinking because we can't just sell these through Teespring because it's a G8 product like it's not just like it's
75:27 completely customized like custom color of the strings you know um like custom
75:33 tag on it like all this stuff oh oh awesome awesome Ed's got it so Ed you
75:37 can be my you can be my model you you go here so Ed actually designed it um
75:43 pretty much from scratch other than like taking sort of the ideas for yeah that
75:47 logo was painstakingly crafted by Ed Yago um so like things like the zipper
75:52 layouts are are not not done by him but the design on the inside of the hood
75:56 which says it's actually got a typo this is thankfully no no no it's not typo oh
76:01 I made the text grungy and like put in scratches and I scratched out part of
76:06 the L and turned it into an I so it's Inus Tech tips it's got two eyes so
76:11 we're going to fix that in the real one but it says that on the inside the back
76:14 has got kind of like a like kind of a grungy like W logo inspired thing other
76:21 side minus Tech tips logo so um so what
76:24 I'm kind of thinking is I'm going to if the fan thing goes well I'm going to try
76:28 and talk our reseller Network into selling these as well even though
76:31 they're not really computer products and like who knows maybe that'll be like a
76:36 really unique and cool way that um LMG
76:40 can do can do merch moving forward they can hear you by the way you
76:44 can talk too headphon Sav your headph headphone wire management things on the
76:50 inside and the outside I I don't think they can see
76:54 that yeah they're not going to be able to see that but this one actually saved my headphones yesterday when we were
76:59 running around in the corn maze my headphones fell out of my ears but was
77:05 kept by the loop so there you
77:08 go okay I'm gonna go all right thanks Ed see you have a great weekend I like
77:12 pulled him out of his car really he was leaving I was like come on you got to
77:17 show the way show your sweater car was on like just about to
77:24 pull out I'm like no the sweater so to be clear gu oh it's
77:29 a G8 brand hoodie and it's like really nice like it's a light material but like
77:34 a quality material like that was why I wanted it again it was one of those
77:38 things where I was like nope I want this one and if we can't do this one then I'm
77:42 not going to so we figured it out g8's
77:45 been great they put together just I we were going to order 300 now that I've
77:50 seen it I think we're going to order like 600 nice but it's not going to be
77:55 cheap okay like not going to be cheap so
77:58 G8 our cost from G8 is not cheap we will
78:01 need resellers to sell this for us because I can't pull you know Luke and
78:06 Nick and Ed off of their regular duties to pack boxes and ship things out the
78:10 door not to mention that our shipping rates would be atrocious because we
78:13 don't ship in high enough volume so the resellers are going to need their margin
78:18 and we're going to need our margin so I'm expecting them to cost somewhere in
78:21 the neighborhood of about a hundred bucks so they are not going to be cheap for a
78:25 sweater I don't think that's that I don't shop for clothes yeah I don't
78:30 really know for like for like a a generic how much does a how much does a
78:34 hoodie cost guys yeah for like a generic cotton hoodie um I I I think they're
78:40 like 60 bucks I don't know so I kind of figure for that like
78:46 yeah but it would be like a it would be like a 100 bucks us so yeah it's going
78:50 to be pretty ouch but okay that's high I
78:54 don't shop for clothes it's high in the cont yeah I I haven't bought a hoodie
78:59 since I was in like grade six yeah so I don't know so anyway people are saying
79:03 like $30 like no's no way it's way below
79:06 the cost way below cost sometimes things
79:10 cost money especially when they're custom so this will be very custom and
79:13 there's a lot of cool features and stuff like the pockets on the inside are pretty badass the cable management stuff
79:17 is pretty badass yeah so there you go guys
79:21 sometimes things just are they are and that's how it
79:25 is um all right so what else we got here I mean there's not much time left but I
79:29 guess we don't have a whole lot of uh do you have time for after party um I think
79:35 I have to shoot fast as possible again today oh Oh you mean the ultrawide
79:39 festival after party yeah oh maybe we
79:42 should just and okay why don't we do a couple like like super rapid fire topics
79:46 so Apple's profits break all records for all companies ever um so they're a
79:52 staggering almost 10 billion ahead of the previous record set by exen Mobile
79:58 in 2008 so um there you go most
80:01 profitable year ever ever ever ever so
80:04 apparently they're doing kind of okay without Steve Jobs yep selling lots and
80:09 lots of iPhones
80:13 um let's see there's the Tesla topic basically we don't have to go watch the
80:17 video or anything but basically there was an Uber driver and someone did a
80:20 like super bad U-turn right in front of them and they would have had a head-on
80:24 collision but the car stopped before he could even like honk the horn so I guess
80:27 yeah we're going to see it that guy super not good car stopped saved him
80:33 pretty cool there you go yeah good stuff there's there's some Sensational stuff
80:37 in the thing where it's like I could have died like I kind of doubt it I
80:41 don't think they were going that fast weren going that fast but like it's still cool that it stopped uh this is
80:47 interesting this is actually I wish we had talked about this earlier on in the show AT&T data perks offered little bits
80:53 of data Snippets of data on your plan uh for completing various tasks so this is
80:59 basically straight up one of those like
81:02 complete surveys to earn cash cash cash
81:06 cash for surveys except brutal AT&T so
81:11 it's an iOS and Android app it's called Data perks so you can take surveys you
81:15 can shop and sign up for subscriptions and exchange for dat of course you can
81:18 shop and sign up for subscriptions that's so bull that can be transferred to your wireless account um AT&T says
81:23 subscribers are allowed to transfer up to a gig to their Wireless account each
81:27 month within a billing period And I believe they actually expire outside of
81:31 that billing period although don't quote me on that one but basically it's like
81:34 super lame and Android police uh pointed
81:37 out that most offers net 25 to 50
81:40 Megs oh my God it's like
81:45 wow wow and it's possible to earn more but a
81:50 lot of the time that involves purchasing or subscribing to to
81:54 something great awesome yeah um this is
81:59 this is interesting so more details on YouTube Red so um I actually have a call
82:04 that I need to get on with my YouTube contact on I think Monday I told him I
82:09 wasn't able to do it today he wanted to talk today
82:13 um because the word on the street was that YouTube read similarly to how Apple
82:18 was planning to handle their music service was not going to pay creators
82:22 during the trial period um this headline
82:26 says will pay video makers during free trial after concerns um through email I
82:32 haven't got all the details something something Google play music subscribers
82:35 are being transferred to YouTube red and you're going to get some of that but I
82:39 don't know something something something something something
82:43 something so we'll see we'll see how all
82:46 this goes because as much as you know I
82:50 wow I'm going to I'm going to totally pull a Taylor Swift here as much as that
82:55 income will not make or break lus Media Group this is not about Linus Media
83:00 Group because AdSense makes up a small
83:03 portion of what we do because and some people are much more heavily reliant on
83:07 AdSense we Diversified we saw I mean I'm
83:11 not going to call us Geniuses or anything but we saw this coming no we
83:15 didn't see YouTube Red coming specifically but we saw YouTube
83:19 basically changing the rules and going sign up or
83:23 GTFO uh we saw that coming A Million Miles Away and so we are also on vessel
83:28 which does a lot to support our business and a huge thanks to our viewers who watch on vessel uh we also have merch we
83:34 also have subscribers on our Forum that contribute to us like we have a lot of
83:38 different ways we we do a lot of our own ad Integrations as you guys know um so
83:43 so we are far less reliant on AdSense than many other creators so this is not
83:47 about us it's just wrong it's wrong to
83:51 offer a free trial and then take that out of someone else's
83:54 pocket Google this is your service you
83:58 eat it so yeah there you go uh so anyway I
84:03 will clarify hopefully next week once I actually get a a better understanding of
84:08 what exactly is going on because right now it's not it's not 100% clear to
84:12 me uh I think that's pretty much it so thank you for watching The W show today
84:16 guys I hope you enjoyed it we certainly did I forgot to I forgot to set up the
84:21 intro properly so it'll show it'll show an ad spot for a second here uh we are
84:25 we are going to do a very short after you know what no I will find out if we
84:29 are going to do a very short after party I'll be right back you just leaving can
84:34 I roll the thing I don't
84:40 know I'm not here don't look at me we don't have any
84:46 topics left I don't know what to talk about I filmed the beginning of probably
84:51 one of the coolest build Vlogs I've ever been a part of today I still have a
84:55 whole bunch left to film it's sitting right over there off camera so it's like
85:00 just outside of the frame and you can't see it super epic so far everything is
85:05 actually working and actually going according to plan this is probably one
85:09 of the riskiest build logs I've ever tried to do and it would really suck if
85:13 it ended in a failure so yeah hoping it works
85:19 out um I don't know when the video is going to come out for it hopefully
85:23 relatively soon but yeah that's been a
85:27 hell of a thing um yeah hopefully it hopefully it looks
85:32 good and hopefully it runs well both of those two things are still very much up
85:37 in the air in terms of variables I think it could run very well and look super
85:41 awesome or it could run pretty okay and
85:44 look super trash it'll run at least a
85:48 little bit though anyways I don't even think there
85:51 is any more new news topics at all um
85:55 not my wife wants to home apparently we
85:58 are not doing the Afterparty because Linus's wife really wants to go home
86:02 which is super fair so we're going to roll the
86:11 intro good
86:21 stalling
86:34 oh
