now this isn't my first kick at the 5K
0:03
can I actually spent well over a month
0:06
with the 5K retina iMac and while I did at one point install Windows on the Mac
0:11
using boot camp thanks to the imac's let's say lack of upgradeability there
0:16
were some experiences that I couldn't properly evaluate the first time around
0:20
the most important of which being game performance on Enthusiast grade Hardware
0:25
at 5K something that won't be an issue in today's video about the Del
0:31
up2715k monitor the 5K display you may
0:35
plug in in any way as long as you can afford to pay sounds okay let's get
0:49
started Corsair h80i GT and h100i GTX
0:53
Allin one liquid coolers improve both the appearance and cooling of your PC
0:57
click my face now to learn more we'll
1:01
start with the physical overview it comes packed in an environmentally
1:05
conscious cardboard packaging with the panel the stand and a metric wack ton of
1:11
cables two mini DP to DP two DP to DP
1:14
One Mini DP although that's 4K only more on that later and one USB 3 A2B also a
1:21
power cable assembly is simple just click the confidence inspiringly
1:25
well-built metal stand onto the back of the monitor where you'll also find the
1:29
option to use a standard vase amount if you want and then you're good to go good
1:34
to go with what you might ask good question let's do the physical tour and
1:38
spec stuff now starting at the front the up2715k is a 27in 16x9 aspect ratio
1:44
display that runs at the otherworldly resolution of 5120 by 2880 the 218 pixel
1:52
per inch IPS panel sits behind an edgo edge sheet of glass that helps distract
1:57
from the monitor's relatively large bezels in a world where the Mantra seems
2:01
to be Slimmer is better but then I doubt most folks will be distracted by the
2:05
bezels when they've got that screen to look at it boasts a contrast ratio of
2:10
1,000 to1 100% srgb color space coverage
2:13
and 99% Adobe RGB coverage with a true
2:17
10bit panel and a 12-bit 3D lookup table to back it up oh and on top of all that
2:22
it features the full gamut of adjustments tilt height swivel and autor
2:28
rotating pivot hm
2:32
moving to the left we find a Harmon Carden logo that by itself is completely
2:36
meaningless but combined with the surprisingly decent onboard speakers
2:39
built into the bottom of the display impressed me then further around an SD
2:44
card reader whose type is not specified in spite of the amusing amount of detail
2:48
in the Dell manual about completely irrelevant things like the pinouts of
2:53
DisplayPort and USB 3 ports but I have to assume it's SDXC since they do say
2:58
it'll handle up to 1 tbte car cards either way it's a welcome addition which
3:02
brings us around to the back where there are some simple things like the charging
3:06
only USB port here on its own power in
3:10
the Uplink and four data usb3 ports one with a bit more clearance for larger
3:14
connectors and a very unusual input
3:18
configuration the first thing you'll likely notice is the absence of anything
3:22
but DisplayPort ports with the next probably being the weird color coding on
3:26
one of the full-size ones here's how this works if you're insane or just
3:31
doing it temporarily I guess then you can plug a single DP cable into the big
3:36
blue port or the mini one but you'll be limited to 4K 60 htz hence the insanity
3:42
if that's your long-term plan for this monitor if you value your money at all
3:46
and you realize that if you'd wanted to run 4K you'd have been better served by
3:49
a native 4K display then you're going to want to plug two DisplayPort 1.2
3:54
compatible ports off your AMD NVIDIA or Intel graphics card into both of the
4:00
fullsize ports make sure you've got the latest drivers with 5K support and
4:04
you're going to be ready to rock my GTX 980 SL test bench required no extra
4:10
configuration plug-and play Baby which I legitimately wasn't expecting my early
4:15
experiences with tiled displays uh you may have guessed by now that there are
4:19
effectively two separate monitors in here with two side by-side tiles since
4:23
unlike Apple Dell couldn't create their own ton and display interface since it
4:28
had to work with standard video card was not too positive with the up2715k
4:34
other than an occasional half width bio screen and longer than normal delay when
4:39
all tabbing out of applications I didn't notice any issues yay but at this price
4:44
not noticing issues isn't good enough it has to knock your socks off I'll start
4:49
by saying I was pretty impressed by the onscreen menu lots of modes including a
4:53
low Blue Light reading mode and adjustments including six axis color
4:57
sliders for the custom calibration mode although if the included calibration
5:01
report is anything to go by most people likely won't need them since my monitor
5:05
managed Delta ease of less than two pretty much across the board indicating
5:09
excellent color accuracy and I didn't notice any backlight bleed either which
5:12
was pretty nice and while I was disappointed that Dynamic contrast ratio
5:17
cannot be turned off the built-in dead pixel Checker absolutely blew me away I
5:22
noticed while I was digging around in there that the only options for Pixel
5:27
response time are normal and fast although I couldn't tell the difference
5:30
between them at all anyway but I actually don't mind that for a couple of
5:34
reasons first I never really recommend cranking overdrive since I personally
5:39
find the artifacts on the Leading Edge much more distracting than motion blur
5:43
behind a moving object and second because the motion blur on this monitor
5:47
is surprisingly good for an IPS monitor and while I couldn't test input leg
5:51
since my tester relies on HDMI the gaming experience as far as
5:57
either of those things are concerned is great mate
6:00
but what about trying to game at that 5K resolution Linus well great question one
6:07
word wrecked actually okay not quite that bad it's it's not that bad but
6:11
forget about running games at Max details Tomb Raider 2013 was run at
6:16
Ultra with no motion blur ultimate with tress F was a stuttery mess Crisis 3
6:22
managed very high textures and medium settings across the board and Shadow of
6:26
Mordor did okay at very high without
6:30
motion blur and at medium textures it should be noted that in all of these
6:34
games I turned antialiasing off manually if it wasn't already for two reasons
6:39
number one are you insane my 980s were already suffering and number two is that
6:45
while at 4K I like two times anti-aliasing at 5K I really don't see
6:52
the point at all I seriously cannot tell the difference and I guess the word
6:56
seriously is a great segue into this conclusion this monitor is a serious
7:01
piece of gear for serious users at least the ones who are serious about accepting
7:05
the limitations of it that come along with its astonishingly sharp pixel
7:10
density at 32 in on the Acer
7:13
b326hk I found 4K barely usable but
7:19
usable without scaling so you will need scaling on this one 150% was borderline
7:26
and 200% was great for me and in Windows
7:29
I feel like that single-handedly defeats the purpose of the upgrade in the old
7:34
days we upgraded monitors to get more pixels to put stuff on it made our
7:38
virtual workspaces bigger but with 200%
7:42
scaling there is no advantage in this regard over a 1440p 27in monitor so when
7:48
steam's game list looks like it's full of you know titles about 144k Warfare it
7:55
feels like a bit of a poor investment for such a steep asking price when you
8:00
consider that Apple includes a computer in the package for a few hundred more
8:04
bucks if you're willing to give up some flexibility in terms of upgrades and
8:09
that by the time scaling is pretty much fixed across the board maybe another
8:12
couple of years much more affordable options will be available so this one
8:18
professionals only need apply which can't necessarily be said
8:24
about Squarespace Squarespace is the website creation and hosting tool that
