0:07 welcome to my unboxing and first look at the BenQ Joy gp2 so the gp1 was an LED
0:16 lit projector in a very small form
0:19 factor meant to be portable the gp2 is
0:22 now an HD LED lit projector so that
0:26 means you will never and you know never is an asteris cuz if you ran it forever
0:31 it might eventually run out but you will never have to replace it the bulb with
0:35 an expensive replacement bulb pretty cool this one also is HD now so it's
0:41 720p you've got multimedia connectivity which I'll show you when we open it up
0:45 an iphone/ipod Doc and I've seen this in
0:48 action already very cool and you can even get a detachable battery that'll
0:52 run the unit for 2 hours on battery life
0:56 actually I believe the BenQ site quotes 3 hours so somewhere in the 2 to three
1:00 hour range not 100% sure um which is
1:03 great for travel great for portability let's see what else BenQ has to say for
1:07 themselves on here so HD ready two watt speaker so it does have included
1:11 speakers so it'll do audio over HDMI USB
1:15 reader SD card reader so you can play from pretty much any Source two gigs of
1:19 built-in memory so you can play from any of those sources you can play from your
1:23 oh it's not even on here but you can play from the iPod doc it has a document
1:27 viewer it supports USB display
1:30 uh there's the brightness I've seen this thing up to about uh 70 in though with
1:35 no issues whatsoever very cool it has Auto Keystone instant on and off LEDs
1:41 and it runs for 30,000 hours without
1:44 replacing the bulb so that is pretty much in that sort of never time frame
1:49 here's the unit itself which comes in a great carrying case this time around
1:53 especially when compared to the gp1 we've got an included
1:58 remote so I'm just go ahead and com in little Ziploc bag here show you guys the
2:02 remote functionality that is included with the gp2 if I can ah there we
2:09 go okay so you can navigate the menus I'm holding it upside down sorry guys
2:13 you can oh look at that dedicated controls for your iPhone or iPod and
2:18 yeah that's pretty much it let's see what else is included in here we got the
2:21 power adapter so small power brick and
2:25 there's even room inside the case this
2:28 this was one of the things that uh Ben Q received complaints about with the gp1
2:32 was that there wasn't room in the carry travel case to put the power adapter
2:37 well now they have designed a special compartment right next to the projector
2:40 for you to put that in there and there you go nice and compact we've
2:46 also got adapter cables included uh
2:49 we've got composite we've got uh iPhone
2:53 and then we've got uh VGA neaten and finally a USB cable
3:01 so let's have a look at the unit itself pull that out and take these off take
3:07 this off okay so pretty glossy pretty
3:10 shiny also got a nice like anodized aluminum brushed aluminum finish here
3:15 with the BenQ logo there's all of your navigation these are all touch sensitive
3:19 buttons including the okay in the middle
3:22 on the side we find ventilation there's a heat sink that you can clearly see
3:26 through there we've also got a focus wheel
3:30 on this side we see the lens itself which got a big old fat fingerprint on
3:34 it but you know nothing you can't take care of there you go it's not much
3:39 better okay more heat sinks and a heat pipe even there hopefully you can see in
3:44 there yep okay on this side we find the
3:47 business end of the unit so there is your USB so you can run uh content off
3:52 USB there's your mini there is your PC
3:57 slav so oh I see okay so so that adapter
4:00 where' that go where did the adapter go ah okay so this adapter allows you to
4:05 run VGA or composite and this what looked like an iPhone adapter to me
4:10 really looked an awful lot like an iPhone adapter to me plugs right into
4:14 there and gives you those options you've also got mini HDMI so you can plug that
4:17 right into your tablet smartphone whatever the case may be audio in
4:21 headphones or audio out very cool
4:24 because what that means is with the HDMI you're not stuck with the two watt
4:28 speakers that are included you can also plug them into outside external speakers
4:33 very neat and DC power in here we have
4:37 more ventilation such a small unit as well as oh what's this aha SD card slot
4:44 and such a small unit ventilation is going to be key because even though
4:47 we're using LEDs it's still a lot of a lot of light that's being generated a
4:52 lot of heat that's going to be generated there's where you plug in the external
4:55 battery pack and uh let's go ahead and
4:58 give me a couple minutes and I'll get this uh set up so we can watch something on
5:02 it so this is fairly straightforward I plugged my uh my iPhone in says press
5:07 okay to connect so I press okay iPod doc
5:10 s
5:15 searching okay pretty bright in here you guys but uh hopefully you can kind of
5:20 see the point so here's the size of the image uh cameraman if you just want to
5:24 have a look at the blinds we aren't able to get them any more closed than that so
5:28 I would say in a darker room actually here maybe I can close them a little bit
5:33 better ah there we go okay so in a
5:36 darker room that's properly set up for a presentation you can get a pretty darn
5:41 good image out of this guy that is here
5:45 about this big no no issues whatsoever
5:50 very cool for such a portable unit um now I'm running SD content now so let me
5:55 find something HD and give me a sec here
5:58 guys so right now I'm using my favorite
6:01 uh my favorite iPhone app this is air video and I can play back any video that
6:06 is on my uh my Windows Home Server at
6:10 home so let me just see here's here's something
6:15 HD just adjusting the volume down here guys with the included remote so yeah no
6:20 big deal I'm going to go ahead put that there and I've got something HD to play
6:25 back for you guys so from the beginning
6:28 okay outputting through TV output so to speak and there we go so that is running
6:33 at uh probably a down sampled 720p cuz
6:37 remember this is streaming uh from my home computer all the way here but I
6:41 just want to give you guys some size perspective for the image so kind of
6:45 hears me here I'm 56 apparently your
6:49 armspan is about the uh about your
6:52 height so yeah looks like we've got about a 5 foot wide image here coming
6:57 out of this projector that looks pretty Prett darn good I'm very very impressed
7:01 with how easy it was to set up the gp2 I
7:04 think for you know what here I'm just going to turn on the uh the light I
7:08 think for gamers that are running out of
7:12 their you know that are still living in sort of one room and they want a
7:16 projector or they want a big screen and they don't necessarily have the means to
7:21 buy like and mount you know a big 50inch TV or something like that for 500 550
7:28 bucks this thing is a killer value to set up a nice big screen on the cheap
7:34 and put it away in a very very small form factor whenever you don't want to
7:38 use it plus eliminating that uh that
7:42 bulb replacement factor is huge and
7:45 awesome very very cool big thanks to BenQ for providing this unit for us to
7:50 check out don't forget to subscribe to lineus techtips from our unboxings reviews and other computer
7:55 videos so here I am set up on uh a much
7:58 larger wall wall although I'm actually not projecting a much larger image just
8:03 yet let's go ahead and see how big we can get it this is a very brightly lit
8:07 room right now there are lights directly above it so right now the image is
8:11 probably about I'd say 5 and 1 half 6t
8:14 wide and I'm just going to level it off and I'm going to go ahead and I'm going
8:17 to turn the lights off in here just
8:21 going to head over to the other side and
8:24 turn off the light and show you guys oh
8:27 that looks so good what kind of results we get with this is HD content playing
8:32 off cameraman's iPhone not my own and uh
8:37 here we go I'm just going to something to do with some Victoria Secret
8:42 thing image quality and color is just outstanding I'm going to change my angle
8:47 a little bit here so that I'm straight on and zoom in a little bit so that the
8:50 uh there we go so it looks just awesome so once
8:56 again thanks to Ben Q for allowing us to check out the gp2 don't forget to
