0:00 When comparing the specs between the cameras on today's hottest cell phones
0:05 one starts running into an awful lot of Photography specific terminology being
0:09 thrown around and the term that seems to have been all the rage lately is Optical
0:14 image stabilization or oi if you happen to be into the whole brevity thing now
0:18 many phones offered today such as the iPhone 6 Plus are touting ois as the
0:23 next great thing in cell phone camera technology and well it's not exactly new
0:28 and this form of stabilization has been readily available in ordinary cameras
0:32 for some years now but it's not all marketing fluff and unnecessary Fanfare
0:37 either because what makes it special is not how new the idea is but how small
0:43 and efficient these systems have become now in the past the only image
0:47 stabilization readily offered on cell phone cameras was that of the digital
0:51 variety which worked all right for minimizing that annoying bobbing effect
0:56 NVIDIA footage but did squat in the way of reducing Shake shiness or motion
1:01 blur that is caused by camera movement and this is where Optical image
1:05 stabilizers come in they help to produce higher quality images by reacting to
1:10 stimulus in real time ensuring that the path between the lens and the sensor is
1:15 perfectly aligned before the subject is captured thus allowing you the user or
1:20 an end software to more easily Focus the image so to accomplish this
1:24 manufacturers utilize highly sensitive gyroscopic sensors in any range of two
1:29 to many which provide data as to the angle and movement of the camera and
1:33 some even exist specifically to provide extra functionality such as improved
1:38 vertical stability while taking panoramic shots these directional
1:42 sensors work in combination with tiny electromagnets that affect the angle of
1:46 either the lens or the image sensor depending on the type of ois employed so
1:51 the first type we'll be looking at lens-based applications are found in
1:55 high-end cameras and worked by affecting the axis of the lens in response to
2:00 movement keeping the image tracked on the sensor as squarely as possible the
2:04 main advantage to this style is that the image seen by the user is as stable and
2:09 clear as possible but it fails in applications where no distance can be
2:13 created between the lens and the sensor so you're pretty much hooped if you want
2:17 to jam this kind of tech into a cell phone which brings us to the second type
2:21 sensor-based or inbody stabilizers which by contrast affect the angle of the
2:26 image sensor in response to stimulus and have the added benefit of being able to
2:30 adjust the focal length between it and the lens as well this type of
2:34 stabilization can be compact enough to fit into small things like cell phones
2:38 while also being a much more affordable and practical option as it prevents the
2:42 user from having to haul around a bunch of really heavy not to mention expensive
2:46 camera lenses of course that's not to say that sensor-based options are
2:50 without their disadvantages since the image projected onto the sensor is not
2:55 already stabilized negative qualities such as reduced low light Auto Focus
3:00 performance can be an issue especially in instances where there is noticeable
3:04 leg in the electronic viewfinder or screen image also these types of
3:08 stabilizers are greatly dependent on their movement speed and the size of the
3:13 lens in front of them meaning to improve long distance and Motion Performance at
3:17 some point the lens must get bigger and as many of us know getting bigger to
3:21 improve performance is simply not always an option speaking of improving
3:26 performance Cooler Master thanks to great Partners like them fast as
3:30 possible has evolved from this to the Quality that you see today
3:35 and they do more to support Grassroots efforts than you might realize right now
3:39 in addition to having their highquality cases power supplies and cooling
3:43 products for your next custombuilt PC they're running their case mod World
3:46 Series entries close February 7th and anybody can enter you do not have to be
3:52 a professional case modder in order to have a shot at a prize because it's a
3:56 multi-tiered competition so you know you will actually be facing off against
4:01 modders of your own caliber there's around
4:04 $25,000 us value in potential prizes which in Canada now is like lots of more
4:10 than 25,000 cuz our dollars
4:14 like and for the first time they're partnering up with dremel to give away
4:17 some really cool tools to the winners so check it out at the link in the video
4:20 description also check out the like
