0:00 you know what they say what happens in vegas stays in vegas well not on my
0:05 watch because all the stuff that's happening in
0:09 in vegas is not going to stay there i'm going to tell you about it
0:12 also you might notice we're in the hallway of our hotel because it's it's
0:16 nighttime and i'm scared of the dark
0:20 now ces proper hasn't started yet but a bunch of pre-ces news came out already
0:25 so let's get started samsung has kicked off the product announcements with three
0:28 new monitors and i'll talk about them in order from least to most interesting to
0:33 me the first is the ur59c a 32-inch
0:36 curved 4k with a 2500 to 1 contrast
0:39 ratio and support for up to 1 billion colors that's a lot but i thought we
0:43 were done with curved 16x9 monitors apparently we're not the second is the
0:47 crg9 a curved 49-inch super ultra wide display with a resolution of
0:52 5120x1440 aka a 32 by 9 aspect ratio and
0:57 a 120 hertz refresh rate that's also compatible with HDR 10 and freesync 2.
1:03 and the third is the space monitor wow this one's actually got a name and not
1:07 just a numerical designation that's nice and it's so called because it can fold
1:11 flat against the wall to reclaim more desk space or lean forward to get closer
1:16 to your eyeballs the screen can even rest on the desk which would be cool as
1:20 a touch screen surface studio type display but i haven't seen anything
1:23 about it having a touch screen but who knows samsung has a whole week left
1:27 maybe they can add it before friday next up cars they're shaping up
1:33 next up cars they're shaping up to be a big trend at this year's ces and hyundai
1:38 and kia are contributing to that with what they call future technology the
1:42 electric vehicle wireless charging system and automated valet parking
1:46 system or tv savs
1:50 for short basically the system would allow a car owner to use a phone app to
1:54 send their autonomous car to a valet garage when they arrive at a destination
1:58 that has a valet garage not only that but the car
2:03 would then find a wireless charging spot for electric vehicles notify the owner
2:07 when the car is at full charge and then re-park itself in a regular parking spot
2:12 until such a time that the owner calls it back again this may seem a little
2:17 far-fetched but it's not actually the weirdest car related thing at ces or
2:21 even from kia the company also has a prototype system called the real-time
2:26 emotion adaptive driving system or read
2:30 a much better algorithm an algorithm much better acronym the read system
2:35 adapts a vehicle's interior to the passenger's emotional state using
2:40 sensors to detect facial expressions heart rate and bioelectrical activity it
2:45 then can vibrate the seats to match the music provide massages and make you
2:50 forget all about that horrible press conference you had to attend just now at
2:54 ces and AMD is looking to have a bigger
2:58 presence in the laptop market and to that end has announced its new lineup of
3:02 2nd gen mobile ryzen processors the chips are reportedly not based on zen 2
3:06 cores but there are now quad-core models paired with built-in vega graphics and
3:11 the higher-end models sport a new h designation indicating a boost in power
3:15 to take on Intel's chips indeed AMD claims their new chips will give Intel's
3:20 competing processors a run for their money in microsoft office and photoshop
3:24 as well as gaming using the built-in graphics AMD's chips will be found in a
3:28 number of laptops this coming year from ASUS dell hp lenovo and more but the
3:32 other big news is that AMD chips will be in chromebooks for the first time
3:37 well i mean it's big news for for AMD
3:41 chromebooks guys AMD's and chromebooks
3:46 now it's time for quick bits brought to you by seasonic yeah the power supply
3:51 guys a lot of people overlook power supplies but they're really the beating
3:54 heart of every gaming pc and just like a strong heart will keep your blood
3:58 pumping the outstanding performance and efficiency of sea sonic's power supplies
4:02 will keep your pc running like an olympic athlete
4:05 not literally like if it was a computer the athlete these guys have been making
4:10 power supplies since the 1980s they know what they're doing so if you need a new
4:14 psu for your next build or upgrade check out seasonic at the link below on to the
4:19 quick bits alexa and google assistant are being
4:22 baked into everything from headphones to refrigerators so why should your
4:25 bathroom get ignored that's right kohler is on the same page they're
4:30 showing off a smart bathroom setup featuring a smart mirror smart bathtub
4:34 and yep the nume 2.0 intelligent toilet so you
4:38 can say alexa flush my dookie
4:45 but why stop at smart toilets whirlpool has announced it will be adding wear os
4:49 smart watch support for its existing smart appliances so you can control your
4:53 oven or laundry machine from your wrist
4:56 that's kind of dumb but actually kind of cool samsung has
5:00 begun rolling out its exynos auto v9 system on a chip the company's first
5:04 chip intended solely for vehicles it's got eight ARM cortex a76 cores with
5:09 three dedicated sets of maui g76 gpus to
5:12 drive various displays around a vehicle which is fitting since the processor
5:16 will appear in audi's vehicles including the ones with these
5:20 those electronic side view mirrors which are very necessary
5:24 to say the red hydrogen one was an underwhelming phone when it came out
5:28 would be an understatement but red is hoping the new lithium 3d camera rig for
5:33 the phone will bring you back up to being just weld
5:39 the rig uses the hydrogen one as its controller rather than a headset i mean
5:43 who knows maybe this will actually make the phone useful
5:47 for like three people
5:50 that was that was rude and 5g might not be here yet but d-link
5:55 is looking to the future with the announcement of the 5g nr home router
5:58 rather than relying on a coaxial or network plug the router will pick up a
6:02 5g mobile connection and distribute it in a home through wi-fi which means yes
6:08 your router will have a sim card it won't arrive until the second half of
6:12 2019 but if it means skipping the cable installation to upgrade networks it
6:15 might be worth it i mean also it kind of looks like it's giving you a high five and that's kind of cool
6:20 all right that's it for the first of this week's five special ces edition
6:24 TechLinked episodes that's right you don't even have to wait until wednesday
6:28 come back tomorrow for more tech news
6:31 what is this christmas
6:35 i hope not yeah no it's not that would mean something is seriously
6:39 wrong with the space time continuum anyways
6:42 subscribe i guess and maybe we won't be in a hallway next time
