0:00 the desk pc's desperate need for maintenance has been
0:05 kind of easy to ignore because all i had to do to not be able to see come check this
0:10 out colored foam at the top of the water in
0:14 the reservoirs and the disgusting amount of dust on the
0:17 motherboard was to just cover it with hoodies and
0:23 galaxy s9s and that sort of thing
0:26 but it's gone to the point where it's actually loud like listen to this
0:33 that's because of all the air in the loop so by popular demand
0:38 welcome to desk pc water cooling maintenance
0:42 a video that is going to be absolute
0:45 hell brought to you by thermaltake their p90
0:50 core tempered glass case features five millimeter thick glass and angled open
0:54 frame design different layout options vertical GPU mounting with a riser cable
0:58 included and more check it out at the link below
1:11 because this thing is so large and heavy during the construction project of the
1:16 wallpaper tv window we actually didn't
1:19 take it out of the room so even though i did eventually get my filters installed
1:23 here look at this look at this if i touch this filter
1:26 see that dust there was so much dust in this room
1:31 that i mean even
1:35 what did get through the filter has made it just grody this one's the worst
1:40 although what's cool is that for the doubters out there who thought that the
1:44 airflow scheme for this thing wasn't gonna work yeah you're wrong
1:48 oh
1:52 it's inching over
1:56 oh there we go and for those of you who figure i'm probably just whining look how thick
2:01 that sucker is
2:06 look at this oh lordy oh that is gross
2:13 i need my dyson let's just make this video not about the desk at all let's
2:17 just make it about a vacuum again you guys you guys like that i'm just kidding
2:20 but i do need a vacuum hi
2:24 i legitimately hadn't really given a lot of thought to where to start with this
2:29 so one thing i did think of was that
2:32 it would be good to be able to pull these up to drain the loop
2:38 i don't know if i ended up actually leaving enough slack
2:42 i take kind of a yolo approach to water cooling maintenance
2:46 so you might as well get as much adrenaline pumping during that time as
2:50 you can alright so this is a little bit tricky
2:54 because what we don't want is any water on our mdf desk it is
2:59 painted and that does help us out a fair bit but it is still sub-optimal
3:04 to get water on it it'll swell up and basically get
3:09 immediately ruined
3:14 all right now this is a bit of a hack
3:26 now normally i wouldn't recommend blowing into a water cooling loop
3:29 because you introduce all kinds of you know microorganisms and stuff in
3:34 your breath um but the reason that we don't care
3:37 here is that we are about to clean everything anyway so it's not a big deal
3:41 how would you if you were to blow into it um you would just have to open up
3:45 somewhere open up the highest point of the loop and then drain at the lowest
3:49 point in the loop and then the whole thing should just kind of drain on its own but you'd have to kind of carefully
3:53 plan your loop in order for that kind of a strategy to work and we didn't
3:56 because this loop was more planned for looks and less planned for
4:01 so that we can maintain it properly all right so the adventure just got a little
4:04 bit more interesting here this pump that i'm pulling out right now
4:08 this one's fine but if you have a look at the inlet of the other one
4:13 there's actually a bunch of micro cracks
4:17 where the fitting goes in check this out this is very
4:21 disappointing because it's clearly not leaking now it looks like we might have
4:26 to replace this pump
4:30 holy crap this might be a problem i can't even
4:34 i can't even take apart the first thing that i'm pulling out of here
4:38 oh good all right one down
4:44 there's a reason that most water cooling manufacturers use delrin or acetal
4:51 anywhere where you're going to thread in a fitting rather than plexi like this and the
4:56 reason that it is more prone to cracking and additionally
5:00 plexi is kind of sucky to clean because you can't
5:03 really use um solvents like isopropyl alcohol on it
5:07 you got to be very careful
5:13 so the fittings we can just go at with some rubbing alcohol and an old
5:17 toothbrush and then one of these
5:21 handy dandy pipe cleaners
5:24 and for this guy we just want to use
5:28 we'll start with just our scrap water just to get some of the gunk off of it
5:35 so for my next trick i'm going to be replacing the pwm
5:39 versions of this pump that i have in there these are great
5:42 if you don't cut off the pwm lead
5:47 like we did when we were installing it and i'm going to replace them with the
5:51 older regular dc control with a little
5:56 knob on the back so i'm actually ending up with a double whammy of work here
6:01 because i got to clean this before i put it away
6:04 and i definitely have to clean this
6:08 before i use it that is supposed to look like that
6:14 okay alcohol seems to be working a little bit better i don't mind if the
6:17 metal is stained but i do need to get the bulk of the
6:20 actual sediment that's built up on it off
6:24 uh this is going to be a bit more challenging
6:28 oh crap i think i just ruined this
6:33 it's an impeller it's a magnet i just touched steel wool on it it's all over
6:37 it i am going to pull the one from the other pump
6:45 got two pumps and one reservoir done
6:50 the reservoirs are permanently stained from having an air bubble
6:56 get me to eat it no you had a moment where you thought i
7:00 might actually do it
7:04 yeah i should try and get this off reservoir is done
7:11 let's go find out if we have any tubing
7:15 oh this is not a good sign not if i want to maintain the
7:19 white and black color scheme anyway i just need a really long
7:24 stiff object sorry i had something caught in my eye
7:28 there on unfortunately no not a meter stick this time it has to be thinner for
7:33 optimal penetration of the tubing Jake
7:37 god get your mind out of the gutter look at that get that right in the tubing
7:42 let's actually get the pumps back into place
7:46 so while you guys were gone i got these pumps all swapped around so they are now
7:50 d5 varios and
7:54 these are really tight fit and they're all cleaned up now
8:00 you put your cleaning stick in you take your cleaning stick out pick up this jug
8:05 and try and wash it down
8:08 that's what it's all about
8:12 okay let's just spit on it to lube it up spit really is nature's lube
8:17 i mean not like for this but bam
8:21 nope you missed it already it's up it's done there was no fundamental problem
8:25 here just needed more lube also this hole was a bit looser
8:28 none of the bolts for these pumps were tight anymore
8:33 once i took them off they all vibrated themselves loose
8:37 all of a sudden you're having a heck of a time
8:48 before and after baby ah okay uh there is definitely some
8:53 trash in there though
8:57 oh that's so dirty
9:07 that's actually not as bad as it looked i've got a little bit of yellow gunk
9:11 so there's definitely cleaning to be oh right
9:15 okay so that's worse it's scrubbing time
9:19 you know i don't know how clean this is gonna come
9:23 like i could pull out the scouring pad but but then i've got metal shards all
9:26 over the place and making matters worse i'm gonna end up with an uneven finish
9:31 because i'm only gonna be able to scour some parts of it there may just not be
9:34 anything we can do about this because part of the problem here
9:38 is just that the nickel plating is being worn away to expose the copper over time
9:44 i mean it's the funny thing about water like
9:47 i'm not blaming the manufacturers here water erodes it's like
9:53 what it does so we've got some erosion not corrosion
9:59 in our block and i think we're just gonna kind of have to live with it
10:03 so i did more closely inspect this pump top and yes it does have some
10:08 like spider web cracks around it but it seems okay i think it'll hold up for
10:12 quite some time um but that's actually
10:15 why it used to be that the threads were directly in the acrylic on GPU blocks as
10:20 well but that's i think why a lot of manufacturers started putting these on
10:23 that and it gives them compatibility with those multi-block manifolds
10:29 something to note is that most water block manufacturers void your warranty
10:33 if you open up the blocks wow
10:36 that is a very very poor thermal paste application there
10:42 oh it smells
10:46 you want to smell it no look at that it kind of looked like an
10:50 oil of some sort like i wonder if whatever i'm touching is like some kind
10:53 of microbe like can you imagine that on my tombstone here lies Linus
10:58 tech tips sebastian died of
11:01 weird alien organism growing in his water cooling loop that's embarrassing
11:06 all right so we're going to do a slightly better job of this this time around okay
11:11 just a little bit more tubing and then we're good to go i'm not going
11:14 to watch Linus tech tips videos that guy has no idea what he's doing
11:26 awesome all right
11:30 well let's finish getting this thing filled up
11:35 ah okay oh what the hell
11:39 oh crap oh crap oh this is really bad i'm gonna keep throwing paper towels
11:43 okay i think that's enough paper towel thank you i can't even see what i'm doing
11:49 okay all right all right all right geez
11:52 um it happened because i opened up the other side as well
11:58 and beca i can't remember which order they're in in the loop but i guess not
12:01 the one that i hoped for and so
12:06 it basically didn't go very well made this one start
12:10 spilling this is og pt nuke
12:13 from petra's tech shop
12:16 okay just a few drops of that should keep anything nasty from growing in the loop
12:22 there's a bubble i see it i see ya there it is
12:30 yep that's better finally done
12:33 for those of you out there who were wondering why it is that we'll take a
12:38 a water-cooled pre-built system and we'll say this thing's beautiful it's
12:42 gorgeous it's got great temperatures but we're not sure if we'd recommend buying
12:47 it to a water cooling novice anyone who couldn't build it themselves
12:51 this is basically why because water cooling maintenance does
12:55 have to be done and it is as difficult if not
13:00 far more so than the actual initial
13:04 build but you know what's not difficult building your own beautiful website on
13:08 squarespace squarespace offers 24 7 tech
13:12 support and they've got tons of gorgeous templates so all you got to do is pick
13:17 one decide on what text and what pictures you want where and you are
13:22 pretty much up and running and squarespace has tons of great features
13:27 including their logo designer their cover pages feature which allows you to
13:30 set up a beautiful one-page online presence in just minutes and commerce
13:35 built into every one of their website templates you can set up your own online
13:39 store so if you've ever wanted a website go try squarespace for free we're going
13:44 to have it linked in the video description no credit card required then
13:48 when you sign up for squarespace make sure that you use our link it's offer
13:52 code LTT and you can get 10 off your
13:55 first purchase so thanks for watching guys if you disliked this video you can hit that
13:59 button but if you liked it hit like get subscribed maybe consider checking out
14:02 where to buy the stuff we featured i don't know maybe we'll put like i don't
14:06 know what'll be down there maybe some of the parts from this thing um also while
14:09 you're down there you can check out our merch store which has cool shirts like this one and our community forum as well
