0:00 monday's here and we've got some exciting news to help
0:04 you deal with the reality of yet another work week micron has just announced that
0:09 they've begun large scale production of gddr6 video memory which
0:14 i mean this is memory that is specifically for video cards and there
0:18 are no video cards shipping currently with it obviously so which probably
0:22 indicates then an announcement of a new GPU or more from at least one of NVIDIA
0:28 or AMD gddr6 is fast with microns parts
0:32 delivering up to 56 gigabytes per second of bandwidth from a single package a 17
0:39 increase over gddr5x but don't expect 17 more
0:44 FPS in the latest titles i mean obviously better vram could help with
0:49 handling high quality assets at very high resolutions but the big draw here
0:53 is for ai and machine learning including self-driving cars as gddr6 has better
1:00 parallelism than its predecessors maybe this will eventually help tesla pick the
1:04 highway exit with the shortest drive-through line at mcdonald's
1:08 hopefully for micron the money they make from gddr6 will offset a potentially
1:12 huge fine they're facing from the chinese government the prc's
1:17 anti-monopoly bureau first got micron on their radar last year when it noticed
1:22 unusual patterns in the pricing of dram and now
1:27 micron along with samsung and sk hynix are being accused of price fixing and
1:32 since these three firms represent over 90 percent of the worldwide market for
1:38 dram the consequences could be
1:42 consequential the three companies are looking at up to
1:45 eight billion us dollars
1:49 in fines and i'm sure the chinese haven't forgotten that these companies
1:53 already got themselves in hot water with american authorities in 2002 for a
1:58 previous price fixing incident well i for what i'm stunned that the corruption
2:04 goes all the way to the top levels of this industry
2:07 speaking of the top levels microsoft has its sight set on a totally legal kind of
2:12 fixing specifically fixing what it sees as problems with the usbc connector a
2:18 microsoft patent was recently published entitled ultra thin usbc connector
2:24 isn't that great so unlike some other patents we're not exactly in the dark as
2:29 to what it is and what it might be used
2:32 for although it will remain compatible with the current usb-c connector the new
2:37 design features a new housing that's easier to install inside devices as it
2:43 wouldn't need support plates and could be attached more directly with glue
2:47 bolts or even just made part of the device chassis itself microsoft claims
2:52 in the patent that the design would not only be more aesthetically pleasing but
2:55 that it could reduce strain on the cable something that's led to the demise of
2:59 many a charging cable in the past when it's bent off the side of a tablet
3:04 although nothing's confirmed yet we could be seeing the slim down connector
3:07 on new surface devices later this year i guess microsoft is trying to make losing
3:12 weight for the winter a thing
3:15 and now it's time for quick bites brought to you by ourselves specifically
3:21 ltx 2018 our meetup and tech event that's coming up on july 14th at the
3:26 richmond olympic oval here in beautiful british columbia that is if you believe
3:30 what it says on our license plates meet the Linus tech tips team and
3:34 participate in everything from a cable management challenge to a lan tournament
3:37 to playing games in vr to trying out our 12k gaming station
3:43 that's only a small amount of what's on offer so come and check it out tickets
3:47 are just 35 canadian loonies which is whatever that converts to in your local
3:51 currency plus cost of hotel food and airfare okay so it's not feasible for
3:56 everyone but do your best now on to the quick bits for some reason
4:00 microsoft is just now getting around to implementing mouse and keyboard support
4:04 on lots of titles for the xbox one which includes a partnership with razer to add
4:10 chroma support for games but if fancy lighting isn't your thing
4:14 xbox one should support other keyboard brands as well speaking of games bose
4:20 might have some more competition in the noise cancelling headphone space very
4:24 soon as apple is reportedly releasing air pods with that technology next year
4:29 as well as a more traditional full-sized pair
4:32 what does this have to do with games
4:36 pricing is currently unavailable but given that it's apple
4:40 i highly doubt that your dreams of an affordable way to shut out irritating
4:44 people around you will be coming any time soon
4:48 and it sounds ha ha like apple was trying to drown out some
4:53 unwanted noise of its own as they are now offering either free repairs or
4:57 possibly refunds on previous repairs for
5:01 users who experienced sticky macbook keys with a design flaw some folks paid
5:06 over 700. for a fix that was well
5:11 seems by their own admission squarely apple's fault crippling their budgets
5:16 for more shiny eye devices with crappy repair policies of their own will
5:21 someone please think of the children who own apple devices
5:27 but something that won't cost nearly as much is the new flip grip a crowdfunded
5:32 contraption that allows you to mount the nintendo switch vertically in your hands
5:37 making for a better experience in traditional portrait-oriented arcade
5:41 games like icarunga donkey kong and pac-man it costs 12 dollars to pre-order
5:46 and liberate yourself from the scourge of vertical video that you deal with
5:50 enough on youtube and instagram's new video thing and finally researchers at
5:56 the university of michigan have set a new record for the world's smallest
6:00 computer stealing the title back from ibm with a tiny cubic device measuring
6:06 just point three millimeters on each size on each size point three
6:11 millimeters for our yankee friends out there that's really small that means
6:15 even a grain of rice absolutely dwarfs
6:18 this thing the diminutive computer comes with processing RAM and io although even
6:24 that slim type-c connector probably won't fit in it and might be used for
6:29 medical applications in the future however there's no word yet if their
6:32 rivals at ohio state have any plans to one-up the tiny system or
6:37 one down it as it were and that's the news join us back here on
6:41 wednesday for more scandal drama and tired jokes about apple
