0:00 so today on my floral couch for my video blog I'll be unboxing the thermal take
0:04 black widow or black X USB to es well
0:09 ESAT this is kind of a loose term I'm using here USB to SATA drive adapter so
0:14 this is basically a little dock that sits on your desk and you plug a hard
0:19 drive into the top of it and then you plug a USB cable into the back so it
0:22 supports 2 and 1/2 in and 3 and2 in drives it is hot swap ready it is USB
0:27 2.0 it is Windows and Mac ready and I think that pretty much covers all of the
0:32 pertinent specs so without further Ado I'm going to get my scissors here and
0:36 we're going to start opening this thing up it's kind of a neat product because
0:41 the the use for this is going to be for
0:44 people who want to Archive their data on
0:48 hard drives as it is right now hard drives are one of the cheapest per
0:52 Gigabyte storage mediums even compared to things like DVD and Blu-ray and
1:00 mm they are also quite durable like
1:03 there's nothing that can cause a hard drive to Simply lose its data over time
1:07 whereas with something like a flash drive that can happen so the first thing
1:11 we find in the box is the black X itself
1:14 so hold on let me have a look at the accessories first and I'll get to that
1:18 in just a moment so please read first you've got a little um user's guide as
1:24 well as a little manual thingamajiggy here that basically gives you an
1:28 introduction to the unit itself okay and then they have how to set up
1:31 the software how to partition your drive on Windows that's a good thing to know
1:35 how to do and then further on down in the bottom oh we've got a power adapter
1:40 obviously especially for 3 and 1/2 in drives you are going to need external
1:44 power so it's just your Standard wall wart there and then we also have a USB
1:50 cable this is USB A2 B okay so it uses
1:54 the same USB plug as like a standard printer or a scanner so here's the unit
1:59 itself it's got a bit of a heft to it actually it's not it's not that light
2:03 but since it's something that would sit on your desk anyway I guess it's not
2:06 that big of a deal so on the front we've got the eject button which feels kind of
2:11 like a like an SNES like the actual feel of it is kind of it feels very solid
2:16 here is a power LED that glows around the outside here and then let's go
2:20 around to the back of the unit itself we got little rubber feet on the bottom so
2:23 it doesn't slide when it's sitting on your desk there is your power button
2:27 there's your power in as well as your USB interface and then on the top of the
2:30 drive itself also something I didn't mention before is where you'll find the
2:34 interface so right inside there that's where your SATA ports are so that's a
2:39 SATA power and then a SATA data and you can see that without this flap down it's
2:44 actually just the right spacing for a 2 and 1/2 in Notebook drive but with the
2:48 flap up the spacing is just right for a
2:52 desktop drive so when you insert the drive in it's as simple as popping it in
2:56 so that the interface makes contact and then when you want to take it out it's
2:59 totally hot swap ready so you don't have to turn off the unit or turn off your
3:03 computer you just press the button and carefully remove your drive it's that
3:06 simple so thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look of the thermal
3:10 take black X
