0:01 you know it's a funny thing it's like apple does something and then everyone
0:06 else goes hm that's a pretty good idea
0:10 and does the same thing 3 years later for a fraction of the cost meet the
0:16 latest member of the club the HP wave a
0:20 trash can PC starting at 600 bucks
0:34 enjoy VR without obstacles with Zotac
0:37 vrgo backpack which features a GTX 1070
0:40 and Intel Core i7 processor learn more at the link
0:44 below so what exactly is this thing well
0:49 hp's slogan is a desktop PC designed to
0:52 be seen so we'll mark it on its looks
0:55 first at 9 and 1/4 in high and close to
0:59 7 in wide in a rounded triangular shape
1:02 it's very small for a desktop with this much Hardware inside and features a gray
1:08 fabric wrap around the outside that looks really modern but doesn't draw
1:13 unnecessary attention that is assuming you can find somewhere to stash the
1:17 unsightly power brick so it is pretty
1:21 but can it perform actually the specs
1:24 are not bad our core i7 model Sports a
1:28 power optimized lifestyle CPU whatever that means which
1:34 basically trades some performance for
1:38 lower heat and power consumption it's got a good mix of solid state and
1:42 spinning storage and a functional if not
1:46 4K AAA gaming ready GPU curiously hp's
1:50 website says up to 16 gigs of RAM but as
1:53 far as we can tell there's no way to order such a beast so you might have to
1:58 upgrade it with one of those empty slots yourself noise is probably the biggest
2:04 downside of the wave which Peaks at 50
2:07 DBS and a whopping 86° on the CPU under
2:12 load though that in itself isn't the
2:15 biggest problem even short bursts of
2:18 activity like installing a program make the fan wind up then wind back down and
2:24 this irregular fluctuation in the sound quality makes it very hard for the wave
2:29 to blend in with background
2:34 noise which isn't to say there isn't any reason you couldn't try to drown it out
2:39 in a bit of an unusual move HP has integrated a speaker into the tower it
2:47 sounds best at about half volume which is loud enough for background music at a
2:51 small dinner party but not for movie watching and sports half decent base
2:56 although It suffers as sounds get more complex everything I am by Kanye sounds
3:02 right at home but busier tracks such as LCD sound systems Daft Punk is playing
3:06 at my house get muddled and a bit messy
3:10 a problem that is exacerbated by the fact that the speaker's output Grill is
3:15 also the exhaust vent for the cooling solution to look inside the wave all we
3:20 needed to do was remove three screws and from here the RAM and 3 and 1/2 in
3:26 storage hard drive are easily accessed for upgrades
3:30 but an m.2 SSD swap would be much more
3:35 difficult totally disassembled we can see why the thermal performance was a
3:40 little lackluster system cooling is handled by these copper heat pipes that
3:45 lead to a small heat sink with a single
3:48 blower style fan for airf flow even compared to a stock Intel heat sink it's
3:53 a little anemic looking and it's responsible for the video card as well
3:58 not that it's a super for powerful one or anything the wave isn't made for
4:03 gaming and it shows but I still give HP
4:06 credit for including more than onboard Graphics rise of the Tomb Raider on the
4:11 lowest settings at 720p ran at a
4:14 playable 40fps and Esports games like Dota csgo
4:19 or OverWatch will run fine as long as you manage your expectations and you
4:24 don't try to play them with the included wireless keyboard and mouse they're
4:28 functional and it's NE neat that they don't require any setup thanks to the
4:32 receiver that's zip tied to an internal USB port but they're possibly actually
4:37 worse than what you'd expect for included peripherals in a starting at
4:40 599 computer I'd replace the keyboard immediately if I intended to do any
4:45 serious word processing work and the mouse's unusual kind of Sonic the
4:50 Hedgehog profile shape didn't fit the hand of anyone that I showed it to so
4:57 yeah but while at this point in the
5:00 video you might be thinking gee he sure
5:03 doesn't like this thing very much truthfully I wasn't that stoked on it
5:08 until I tried to find something that out competes it and if you want a reasonably
5:13 high performance little machine thermals
5:16 and Acoustics aside it's very functional
5:20 it powered through productivity image editing watching 4K content and even
5:25 light video work and it does it without taking up a lot of space or looking ugly
5:30 in your apartment or your studio for competing trash can PCS there's really
5:36 not much else out there the Mac Pro is in a totally different class using
5:40 workstation Hardware at five times the price the MSI Vortex is similarly uh
5:46 much more expensive and the extra $700
5:50 you'd be giving Samsung for an art PC
5:53 seems to be going towards an aluminum chassis and Easy Storage expansion and
5:58 for that kind of money you could swap a 10 tbte Seagate Enterprise hard drive
6:02 into the wave and still have enough left over for 436 chicken McNuggets even
6:08 looking Beyond trash cans it's very competitive a similarly speced laptop
6:12 will cost you an additional 200 bucks which is enough to cover a monitor and a
6:16 replacement keyboard for the wave and many mini PCS were either much less
6:21 powerful or clearly made with gaming in mind sacrificing some processor speed
6:26 and generally looking well let's just say
6:30 gamery do you use Amazon we do we think
