0:00 Brandon's lame quiet onet oh we're terrible is this supposed to be on sorry
0:04 I'm not quite started yet Brandon sucks okay quiet
0:07 onet last time we showed you how to quadruple your network speed for $100
0:13 and you complained now some of your
0:16 complaints were misinformed and applicable or otherwise completely
0:20 ridiculous the technology I demoed as I mentioned in the video only works on
0:24 Windows 8 and up I mean come on and who
0:29 the devil invited this guy to my comment
0:32 section but some of the complaints were
0:36 very fair and even went as far as to ask
0:39 why it is that we're talking about an admittedly flaky and proprietary
0:44 solution when there's a more broadly applicable one also available on the
0:48 cheap so this video then is about how to
0:52 10x your network speed and yes thank you
0:55 iron cut that is internal network speed not internet speed between two system
0:59 systems on a
1:10 budget the master case 5 by Cooler Master gives you the freedom to truly
1:14 make your midtower PC case your own with a variety of modular parts and
1:18 accessories check out the link in the video description to learn more first
1:22 order of business there is no magic peanut butter that you can smear in your
1:26 network port to turn it from a 1 GB to a 10 gbit port so we will need new faster
1:31 network cards for our two systems and while I could say all right then let's
1:36 head over to Amazon and grab a couple of Intel X540 10 gig cards with RJ45 Jacks
1:42 and then pick up a net gear 10 gig switch which would work great and scale
1:46 well for the future by the way that would cost
1:50 $1,500 which is like a million Canadian
1:53 rubles so no no we won't be doing that instead as with most of my budget guides
1:58 we will Begin by shopping on eBay so
2:01 let's find those network cards we can save a lot of money by buying retired
2:07 server cards these uex dealies have served us very well get it served us
2:13 that's a joke but all the cheap ones out there have SFP plus connectors instead
2:19 of the standard RJ45 connectors that consumers are used to so what do you do
2:25 easy you'll need a direct attach copper cable I've had good experience with the
2:30 passive ones from cables ondemand.com and I've bought from them a couple of
2:34 times they cost anywhere from $40 to $140 and go up to 10 m so get a cable
2:40 that is long enough to go between the two systems that you want to talk to
2:44 each other more quickly so probably your personal desktop and your network
2:48 storage machine next we'll need actually
2:51 that's about it we're going to skip the network switch requirement by attaching
2:55 our computers to each other directly so
2:59 let's get to it it step one is to leave
3:02 your onboard network card plugged in to the rest of your network devices and
3:07 your internet connection pop those Nicks you bought into the two machines run
3:11 your cable between them and boom Windows will automatically detect the faster
3:16 link whenever those two machines talk to each other
3:22 which oh I'm just kidding Network crap is never that easy step two with it
3:28 still plugged in that part of the first step was real configure the IP addresses
3:33 of your 10 gig cards manually you can follow the guide that we have on the
3:37 screen and if you're not sure what to enter here check your existing
3:41 connection via ip config then leave the first and second values the same and add
3:46 some amount so we're going to put 50 in here to the third value this will be the
3:51 same for both of your machines then you need to pick a unique number from 1 to
3:56 254 for the fourth these need to to be
4:00 different between the two machines you're connecting
4:04 255.255.255.0 is good for the subnet mask and everything else is left Auto or
4:09 blank step three for testing disable
4:12 other network interfaces and disable Windows Firewall don't forget to turn
4:17 those back on when you're done or you'll have no internet or unprotected internet
4:21 step four ping so we can see if these
4:24 two machines can see each other properly by pinging the network addresses that we
4:28 manually enter for the other machine then we can see if
4:33 they'll pick up each other's host names with a slightly different command like
4:36 so step five is to set up RAM diss using
4:40 soft perfect RAM dis a free tool on each
4:43 machine a small RAM disc is fine this is
4:46 just to do a real world test of how quickly we can transfer files step six
4:52 is to create test shares on both sides
4:55 on the RAM discs with read and write permissions in both the share Ing and
5:00 security tabs on both machines and then you can change these to the permissions
5:04 that you want later on although they're on RAM dis so they're going to disappear
5:08 anyhow step seven is to test the transfer using a large file and you'll
5:15 either be saying holy schmow or WTF if
5:19 it worked great if you're in the WTF Camp then uh or it stops working later
5:24 move on to step number eight while in
5:28 theory Microsoft should prioritize the faster link
5:32 between the two computers in practice we found that even manually changing the
5:37 priorities of our interfaces wouldn't stick so we needed to alter the hosts
5:42 file in order to statically assign that
5:45 host name of the PCS to their IP addresses that are on the 10 gig network
5:51 cards to prevent these computers from talking over the one GB Network that
5:56 they are also connected to for access to the the internet and to your other
6:01 devices so do it like so substituting in
6:05 whatever IP addresses you're using for the ones that we've entered and at that
6:09 point step nine it's a Christmas miracle
6:13 unless step 10 your wife or brother or
6:17 sister or whatever is like how come Jeffrey gets faster Network speeds and I
6:22 don't well if you had the foresight to buy a dual interface that is two port
6:27 card for the file server then you you can actually do the same thing again by
6:31 just buying another cable and another Nick or network interface card so all
6:35 you've got to do then is change the third value in the manual IP address
6:39 that you're setting again so the server machine will actually have three
6:43 separate interfaces on three separate subnets alter the host files like so and
6:50 Step 13 test access between these
6:53 computers so you should see one Gigabyte
6:58 per second between the two clients and the file server and about 100 megabytes
7:04 per second between the two clients to each other unless you want to take it
7:08 one step further with another cable and another subnet if they all have dual
7:13 interface cards but I mean at that point you might want to start thinking about a
7:17 network switch because you're basically back to token
7:21 ring speaking of which tunnel bear is
7:25 the easy to use VPN app for mobile and
7:28 desktop bear lets you tunnel to up to 16
7:32 different countries allowing you to browse the internet and use online
7:36 services as if you are in that different
7:39 country they have apps for iOS Android
7:43 the PC and mac and they also have a Chrome extension the apps are super easy
7:48 to use even if you're not a networking person you don't have to do any of that
7:52 port forwarding nonsense or anything you just turn the little dial it actually
7:57 looks like a little little dial you pick the the country that you want to browse
8:01 the internet as though you're in and then two things happen your connection
8:04 gets encrypted with ases 256-bit encryption and boom your public IP
8:08 address gets switched so you show up as if you are somewhere else and if you do
8:14 have any trouble even though they've tried to make it as simple as they
8:17 possibly can their friendly support Bears will be there to help you they'll
8:22 even give you 500 megabytes of data for free to try it out with no credit card
8:27 required all you got to do is go to tunnel bear.com /lt and then if you want to upgrade to
8:32 unlimited you can actually save 10% at our link as well so check it out at the
8:37 link in the video description all right so thanks for
