0:08 welcome to a very exciting unboxing Samsung's fairly new at the gaming
0:13 notebook game however they've been doing notebooks for a while and they're
0:16 obviously very experienced when it comes to a lot of aspects of it especially
0:21 manufacturing so I'm very excited to check out the English side of the
0:25 packaging here on the 700 series 700 NP
0:30 700 g7c this is the S01 and the particular
0:35 spec is it is a 17-in notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium a core i7 3610 qm
0:39 this is an ivybridge CPU hence the three at the beginning of the part number a
0:43 17.3 in full HD 400 nit LCD screen a GTX
0:49 675m with 2 gigs of gddr5 so that is not
0:53 your grandmother's graphics card 16 gigs
0:56 of DDR3 memory as well as a blue oh it
1:00 has a Blu-ray player cool gigabit Lan as well as a 2.11 abgn and Bluetooth 4.0
1:07 this is a black gaming notebook it has an illuminated keyboard and I believe it
1:14 also has a 1.5 terabyte drive inside it so let us take
1:20 a look see at what we will find first we
1:25 have accessories in a very plain brown box that uh oh this this is
1:31 um not what I would have typically expected to find in terms of sort of
1:36 packaging strategy this is a very strange
1:39 shape I'm really not sure what they were
1:43 going for here yeah know I know that slick but I just don't understand how
1:47 this fits in here okay well no see that didn't even
1:53 go in there no it
1:58 doesn't yeah even even then I really don't see
2:03 it okay forget it um so anyways we have
2:06 a power brick which is a pretty substantial power brick it's a GTX 675
2:10 so it's yeah pretty pretty significant so how
2:15 many uh 19 Vols 10.5 amps is what they
2:18 want for this guy got a power cable not a whole lot in terms of
2:23 accessories although that's pretty much to be expected and it's not much that
2:26 goes with a notebook we've got a battery standard battery pack battery cells made
2:31 in Korea and assembl in China 89 wat hours or 5900 milliamp hours okay
2:37 that's valid okay get started with Windows 7
2:41 don't forget guys if you buy a notebook today um you can get a Windows 8 Upgrade
2:46 for nothing or no not for nothing for 15 bucks us or something like that so don't
2:50 worry about buying a Windows 7 notebook today and not uh being able to run
2:54 Windows 8 when it comes we got nice Soft Cell foam here again it's a very strange
2:59 shape why is it Bo like that see that see how it's bowed why is it
3:04 bow see this one's bowed too see look at
3:07 it did they like like did they save money on the foam by like having
3:11 slightly less foam here very
3:16 strange I mean either way the notebook arrived in one piece so we can't really
3:20 complain if the notebook was you know in
3:23 several pieces then we would definitely definitely complain
3:28 ooh that's very nice actually check this out so this is a very unique finish now
3:33 Samsung isn't new to the whole brushed plastic thing so brushed aluminum
3:38 looking plastic however this one has a glossy layer on top of the brushed
3:44 plastic look with their Samsung logo right there looking pretty nice as well
3:49 this is actual aluminum right here so that is an actual brushed aluminum
3:52 finish right there although I'm usually a bigger fan of just the plain brushed
3:56 plastic for a number of reasons including their being EAS e easier to
4:00 clean for a gaming notebook even this is a lot of cooling huge cooler here huge
4:05 cooler on the other side even on ASUS's G Series I've seen them have two big
4:09 vents at the back but one of them is actually just a dummy vent and there's nothing actually in it in terms of heat
4:14 sinks no this one is serious business about the cooling because this is again
4:19 not your grandma's notebook she can't lift it it is a gaming notebook it is
4:24 pretty heavy and it is pretty thick so there's the old iPhone comparison that
4:28 you guys are so fond of and uh let's see what else we got going
4:33 on here so uh should we Boot It Up first or should we here let's put the let's
4:37 put the battery in really quick so the battery goes
4:44 here okay locks into place all right
4:47 let's flip her over oh let's see what we've got in terms of uh easy
4:51 upgradeability so these ones look like they don't come off too easy this one
4:55 looks like it comes off pretty easy so I see uh yeah I can't tell what what I see in
5:00 there so let's flip it back over Okay so
5:03 let's boot her up let's see how much of a charge comes on the battery ooh look
5:06 how nice it is I'm very fond of
5:12 this maybe I'll get one for my birthday probably
5:18 not let's go ahead and take all the plasticky bits
5:23 off look at that backlit keyboard that is
5:28 gorgeous
5:32 all right so while it's booting up we can have a look at what we've got in terms of oh man look at that
5:37 here sorry I'm like getting ahead of myself here but look how awesome that is
5:41 can you see how awesome it is dead sexy
5:45 very bright very nice okay all right I/O
5:49 so there's your Blu-ray Drive there's your USB 2 Port here's another more
5:52 different USB 2 Port this knob right here is for gaming mode balance mode uh
5:57 energy saving mode and then I think that's probably normal mode so you just go like that to switch between all the
6:01 different Power modes it's pretty cool so we're going to put it in Balance mode
6:06 for now okay on the front we find not a whole lot other than in power LED as
6:11 well as a hard drive indicator LED on oh no I don't think that's what that is at
6:15 all I don't know what that is okay moving right along we've got on the back
6:20 ventilation and on the left the bulk of
6:23 our IO so here we find our Kensington lock our power input our gigabit Lan VGA
6:28 HTM and DisplayPort lots of different options here two usb3 super speed ports
6:34 a an SD card reader microphone and headphone jack so that is a very vibrant
6:40 display as well viewing angle is not bad color doesn't distort too
6:45 much actually that's not bad at
6:48 all my language is definitely English so let's go with that okay you cannot
6:53 change your language later haha um so let's go
6:59 demo press next uh type a password okay
7:03 look away
7:09 uh okay and
7:14 hint that's not a very good hint at all
7:17 okay I accept the license terms which I have of course speed read through really
7:22 fast because that's an important part of uh making sure that you accept license
7:26 terms properly okay so here we go so we've got lots of different sort of like
7:30 sexy stuff going on in here that like apparently like it's like muted now or I
7:36 don't know is this like a wheel or we'll have to figure that out okay so we got
7:39 speakers here we got like turbo buttony thing going on here there's our hard
7:43 drive indicator LED there's our caps lock indicator power buttons here uh
7:48 more speakers here and what happened to that backlit keyboard it looked so good
7:52 oh there we go oh my goodness touch sensitive buttons so sexy so that's your
7:57 is that your mute button I don't know but I like this one oh
8:02 yeah so cool Okay so we've got lots of different hot keys with the function so
8:06 brightness up down looks like control panel external display turning the
8:10 touchpad off um apparently it has software on it that will automatically
8:14 turn the touchpad off and turn the Windows key off if you're playing a game
8:17 so I don't know how well that works cuz I haven't tried it but uh this looks
8:21 like it's probably the keyboard LED backl how bright do you want it or how
8:24 not bright do you want it given that all the software isn't
8:29 loaded like probably all this functionality isn't necessarily working yet that's something to do with fans and
8:33 that's turning Wireless on and off although there is a dedicated button for
8:36 that as well so why don't we give it a few minutes to boot up here and then
8:39 we'll uh come back to this so we took this off to find out what was under it
8:44 not realizing that it was of course clearly labeled Optical hard drive and
8:49 memory um so down here check this out
8:52 we've got two memory dims each of these are four gigs so that means there's
8:56 probably two more under the keyboard that's a very common configuration and
8:59 then we've got two hard drives you can also remove the optical drive with this screw right here so you could actually
9:04 remove one of these 750 gig drives which are yeah probably in raid zero I would
9:08 assume although that's the least wise possible thing to do in a notebook my
9:12 personal opinion I would go with an SSD and a hard drive for mass storage um but
9:17 yeah so I take one of those out throw it in an external enclosure and uh you know
9:22 get yourself a 750 gig drive out of the deal and then install your OS reinstall
9:26 your OS onto an SSD drive that is the
9:30 way to go I love notebooks that have
9:34 multiple hard drive installations that is one long screw um because it gives
9:39 you the option to have the best of both worlds SSD and HDD so we have the system
9:45 I think pretty much booted up thank you but we're good uh set the touchpad and
9:49 Windows key game option modes okay that's cool gaming mode dial brilliant
9:53 graphic card fast booting okay all right
9:57 so they actually that is a very cool desktop background but this is not a
10:02 cool Mouse po pointer yeah Samsung just no you may not
10:09 do that um okay let's try some more the buttons
10:14 and stuff uh so let's try the turbo
10:17 button um okay we'll have to find out how that
10:21 works so let's finish up the physical attributes of it there's your microphone
10:26 so if you were say for example webcamming it up with somebody with the
10:29 included webcam then you could make sure that you sort of talk sort of close to
10:33 that that would be good okay all of these buttons are working now that we're actually loaded into the OS so you can
10:37 see brightness goes up and brightness goes down keyboard brightness actually
10:41 this will be more evident with the lights a little bit lower in here
10:44 keyboard brightness can also be turned up or
10:48 down there you go so it's all the way down and it's all the way up and all the
10:53 way up looks really good so cool okay um
10:56 moving right along turbo it turns out is just like um an LED okay this does mute
11:02 it okay so you can see over here mute not
11:06 mute okay uh the wireless one okay all of that stuff seems pretty good built-in
11:10 full keypad uh full um number pad
11:14 honestly the keyboard feels pretty good there's very little Flex to it and the
11:18 keys feel really really nice the system also seemed really responsive and I was
11:22 kind of going to Slick I was like well does it have an SSD cache oh looks like
11:26 they have these configured not in raid so just two separate drives and then
11:30 they're using they are using an SSD cache to cash the boot drive so there's
11:34 8 gigs of SSD cach uh which you can see
11:38 here from a Samsung issd so that's
11:41 really cool love to see that SSD caching is awesome and it should be used
11:46 absolutely everywhere yeah yeah don't worry I haven't forgotten um nice big
11:49 touchpad left and right buttons all of this is pretty much to be expected and I
11:54 think that pretty much covers it in terms of you know overall build quality
11:58 feels really really good actually um the weight's a little high but what can I
12:02 mean it's a gaming notebook what can I really tell you so let's show you guys
12:05 the different modes here so if you switch to Balan mode you can see that
12:09 the actual desktop background does change and it goes into you know well
12:14 more of a balanced uh configuration so we switch into whatever mode that is
12:18 here let's find out what that mode is because I was sure we still had it did
12:23 you just call it Library mode mhm because I don't think that's what it is
12:27 honestly called Library mode okay Library mode guess it's for like reading
12:32 and then the last mode is eco-friendly mode which is the most power saving one
12:36 so if you're in Balance mode the uh silence button actually works so if you
12:41 go here and here you can go into silent
12:47 mode which incidentally makes it run very quiet now we're going to turn
12:51 silent mode off and I'm going to show you guys like the coolest thing ever check this out so we're going to go back
12:55 into gaming mode hold on hold on you have to watch me hit the switch well no
12:59 just go back more so they can see everything see I'm going to hit the
13:06 switch oh it's muted okay we have to oh
13:09 we have to do it again okay so we go back to balance
13:13 mode and then here hold on let me turn it up dramatic
13:22 pause a yeah gaming mode by the way your
13:26 battery might run out quickly if you don't plug in AC power and game mode and you actually play games so that sort of
13:31 goes without saying so thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look
