0:07 welcome to my unboxing of the PA 238 Pro
0:10 art series LED backlit monitor from ASUS that has been around the world you can
0:15 see it's covered in shipping labels and
0:18 packing tape and yes this is not the first time this product's been unboxed
0:22 but it is a cool product and it is here
0:26 in the lab so we might as well do a video about it now I did do a video a
0:30 while back about the proart 24in monitor
0:34 which we are actually still using to this day for the very important task of
0:40 monitoring our our filming while we shoot so it's actually in there in the
0:44 techtips room y so it's going to go get you guys a shot of it no that's fine
0:47 that's good enough it's there trust me um so the reason we use it for that is
0:51 because PA series monitors come factory
0:55 calibrated for the best possible outof
0:59 box uh color accuracy so an IPS panel helps
1:04 with color accuracy but a non-calibrated IPS panel can be just as inaccurate as
1:10 as anything so that is why for professional users as Seuss came out
1:16 with this line of products that comes pre-calibrated so that oh there's lots
1:21 of accessories in there so you know what here we're going to put that there hope
1:26 it doesn't fall apart we're going to cover the accessories so that professional users who don't necessarily
1:31 have access to color calibration equipment or anything like that can have
1:34 something that works out of the box it is DisplayPort ready so there's a DisplayPort cable that's included we
1:39 probably won't need that or maybe we will need that I don't know let's settle
1:44 on we might need that we have a power
1:48 cord we have a USB A to B USB 2
1:54 cable we have a DVI
1:57 cable a VGA cable which we definitely
2:00 won't need okay user manuals okay support CD
2:06 as well as aha the calibration report so
2:09 here it is this is the one that actually
2:12 was run on your monitor serial number this test equipment this r scale
2:18 tracking gamma values and there you have
2:22 it so they guarantee an average Delta e of less than five that's what they're
2:27 going for and that is the Delta e values
2:31 for all of these different colors so
2:34 that is the point of this monitor although with that's not to say that
2:39 it's not great for gaming as well a lot of people ask me what's the best monitor
2:43 for gaming to which I reply well a good monitor is good for gaming it's like
2:47 when people ask me what's the best headset for gaming a good headset is
2:52 good for gaming when it comes to sound and it comes to images I mean yes there
2:57 have been monitors in the past that are
3:01 just you know color accurate but
3:05 phenomenally slow and therefore terrible for gaming um although with the uh with
3:11 the headset example there's no such thing as a headset that's terrible but
3:15 uh but good for gaming or vice versa um so while there have been monitors in the
3:18 past that have been pretty terrible for gaming it's not really the case anymore
3:23 with most modern VA or IPS or PLS panel
3:26 so this is an IPS panel and it has a 6 millisecond respon time I have
3:30 personally used the 24in version for gaming it is a very satisfactory
3:34 experience two thumbs up and I
3:38 personally find that the improved color accuracy and and vividness of the image
3:43 is a definitely an acceptable trade-off for any minute difference in input leg
3:49 or in response time of the pixels compared to a TN panel which if you guys
3:53 follow me on Twitter you know that I am not a huge fan of T panels anything but
3:59 a TN panel is sort of My Philosophy so in terms of inputs we've got a ton of
4:03 inputs that are supported in side by side or picture in picture um except you
4:08 can't do HTMI and DVI at the same time so you can do VGA and DVI picture and
4:13 picture you know these and these these and these these and these uh so display
4:16 port HDMI DVI VGA we've got an audio
4:19 pass through as well as USB 2 in that supports two off here and two off here
4:24 with the internal Hub we've also got an internal power supply in this monitor I
4:29 do like to see that and uh power switch
4:33 all right what makes proart series special
4:37 well it is highly styrofoam
4:41 resistant as you can plainly see so is my shirt snowing in the tech tips
4:47 lab there we go that looks a little bit better now okay has a couple cool things
4:51 this is called quick fit so you got inches here and here centimet here and
4:58 here and then you can actually press the quick fit button which is this guy right
5:01 there and what it does is it brings up a variety of different documents or a
5:05 variety of different things that you might actually have to scale something against which is very convenient if
5:10 you're creating something that is intended to be printed out a particular size or if you're working on something
5:14 that is going to be an A4 document you can really preview it in the actual size
5:18 that it will be and you can even have grid lines that'll help you line things
5:21 up according to how big you want them to be if you've ever tried to like print a
5:25 greeting card or something on your computer you know how frustrating it is
5:29 if you actually don't have any idea what the scale of it's going to be like once
5:33 you actually print it out very robust stand the pro art series monitors have
5:38 awesome awesome stand so you've got all of this T um whatever this is called
5:42 swivel right you've got height adjust up to here again little marks you can
5:47 measure how far your height adjusting should you so desire uh so there you go
5:51 just like that you've got um swivel tilt
5:56 I don't know what this is no this isn't tilt this is uh whatever goes into
5:59 portrait mode okay just that way like that you've also
6:04 got tilt this one's tilt okay and it is
6:08 very well built it's made of plastic but it's not like made of plastic it's just
6:14 made of like pretty solid plastic okay got lots of ventilation holes here on
6:18 the back once again you can actually measure like how many degrees off you
6:23 are with the dilon markers on the back
6:26 very adorable um I think that pretty much covers everything I want wanted to
6:29 say about it so what's the advantage well it's uh it's got oh great it has a
6:33 10 bit 10 bit lookup table so what that means is that it can actually produce um
6:39 more accurate and more smooth gradients of color so on really horrible TN panels
6:46 and I'm not going to name any names over here but we're actually going to go look
6:49 at one um you know not naming any names
6:52 but uh you know what this demo isn't
6:57 going to work this time unfortunately because
7:01 uh yeah okay 3D 3D monitors tend to be
7:05 the worst worst offenders for this but I for whatever reason I had um I had a
7:10 different color scheme on the start menu and you know how the colors kind of fade
7:13 along towards the end of the start menu I could actually see blocks of color
7:18 like this like they didn't fade smoothly on a monitor like this I mean that's an
7:22 extreme example the other way but this is an extreme example in terms of like
7:26 not going to be blocks of color so everything will fade very very smooth smoothly it can actually produce more
7:31 colors in addition to being accurate than a standard monitor can I think I
7:36 mentioned the LED backlight already so it's Mercury free and therefore more
7:40 environmentally friendly and I think we're pretty much
7:43 done so thank you for checking out my unboxing of the pa8 238 Q from ASUS
7:49 don't forget to subscribe to L Tech tips for unboxings reviews and other computer
7:52 videos yeah it's a 1080p monitor in case you guys are wondering 1920 x 1080 I
7:57 don't think I ever mentioned that
