now I spent a fair amount of time with the latest version of afterburner and I
0:04
just want to oh okay that won't work well with the GTX 590 the uh the latest
0:09
beta version of afterburner I was able to get my hands on does support
0:13
overvolting and I wanted to test my hypothesis that the underclocked gf11 on
0:20
here uh the underclocked under voltage
0:24
gf11 um would be able to clock up nearer
0:27
to their single card brethren like the GTX 580 if they were overvolted or or
0:35
even volted or even set to the same voltage as the GTX 580 so while I was
0:42
not able to get to the same performance
0:46
level um at the same voltage with More Voltage so I actually maxed out the
0:51
slider in afterburn I'll show you guys the settings afterwards I was able to
0:55
achieve better than stock clocks of a GTX 580 on the GTX 590 when you consider
1:01
how much lower clocked it comes by default I was able to get over 800 MHz
1:07
on the core which is about a 30% overclock which is outstanding and then
1:11
on the memory I was able to get up over 2.1 GHz so that
1:17
is about 22% on the memory so that's
1:21
going to turn into some serious performance Improvement so what I'm
1:24
going to do is or what I'm doing here is I'm going to be running a 3D Mark 11 uh
1:30
before and after to give you guys a rough ballpark of how much extra
1:33
performance we're able to get out of the GTX 590 by overclocking it as such now I
1:40
won't make any claims about how long your card is going to last and do bear
1:44
in mind guys that yeah sorry my light hasn't been pointed in the right
1:48
direction here do bear in mind guys that depending on the manufacturer of your
1:52
GTX 590 you may not necessarily have any
1:55
warranty left as soon as you start overvolting and overclocking and stuff
2:00
like that so be very careful um I mean
2:04
this card has no warranty anyway so I'm not that worried about it um so anyway
2:09
yeah I'll be back when I have the results all right so here's my final 3D
2:15
Mark 11 score I'm using the extreme
2:18
preset on the overclocked GTX 590 now
2:22
bear in mind guys okay check this out temperatures even in a benchmark so
2:27
we're not even talking when I'm intentionally stressing the temps are up
2:31
to 86° so max temps and max power
2:35
consumption I'll show you guys the power consumption numbers in a bit here are
2:40
significantly up versus the stock card
2:43
so here are the clocks that I finalized on hold on just got to get it to focus
2:48
okay there we go nope okay let's try
2:51
this yeah yeah there we go all right so cor voltage I have maxed out the slider
2:57
that is as much as afterburners going to allow us to give it core clock we're up
3:03
at 809 MHz so that's well over a stock
3:06
GTX 580 and the Shader is correspondingly high memory clock we're
3:11
up over 2.1 GHz on the memory and the
3:14
fan speed I have left at Auto so I'm going to run the stock Benchmark now cuz
3:18
I didn't actually do any 3D Mark testing for my reviews and then I will be able
3:23
to give you guys even more details so with our stock clocks we get just over
3:28
3,000 3D marks so that gives us
3:33
a I guess it's not that much of an
3:38
improvement so I guess NVIDIA knew what they were doing when they clocked this
3:41
card at what they did because I'm about to show you guys well first of all here
3:45
you can see that the temperatures are much lower so in this Benchmark we peek
3:49
at about 75° so I'll show you guys what I run into in terms of power consumption
3:55
and Acoustics so there you have it guys we
3:59
can can easily pull over 500 watts from
4:03
the wall um I've seen it Peak higher than that in games like Metro 2033 up as
4:09
high as around 550 to 570 Watts from the
4:13
wall with the GTX 590 overclocked the
4:16
way it is um one thing to note actually
4:20
is that in Metro 2033 I saw a bigger performance Improvement than I did in 3D
4:26
Mark uh in 3D Mark 11 um
4:30
I went from what was it hold on I got my
4:33
numbers here beside me
4:37
um yeah in 3D Mark 11 I saw like less
4:40
than 10% performance Improvement but in Metro 2033 it was closer to 15% so I'm
4:46
not really sure what's up with that but those were sort of informal testing
4:50
numbers so I don't put too too much stock in them as far as Max temps go it
4:55
looks like this is pretty similar to what we saw before so about 88 degre is
5:00
as high as it goes and since it can't focus worth anything there we go 88° is
5:06
about as high as we see it go but it is significantly louder so I'll throw a
5:10
couple audio clips onto the end of this one where I'll show the non- overclocked
5:13
versus the overclocked GTX 590 thank you for checking out my little video here on
