(shouts) CES, it's happening. So just like in previous years,
0:04
there will be a Techlinked episode every day this week.
0:07
That's two more episodes than normal! So don't say we never give you nothing, you know?
0:11
We give you tech news. - [Man] And that's not all! - That's not?
0:14
Oh, that's not all. Okay. Apple has made good on its promise to ban
0:17
the social networking app, Parler, from its app store. But in an even bigger hit to the service,
0:22
Amazon has suspended Parler from AWS. Meaning the platform is now
0:26
without a host and is offline entirely. This past Friday, Apple said it would pull Parler
0:32
if Parler staff did not submit a plan to improve content moderation within 24 hours.
0:37
(trills lips) But Parler refused, which makes sense, since their whole thing is like,
0:42
unmoderated free speech and stuff, and refusing is cool!
0:45
(laughs) Unfortunately, that policy led to a lot of Parler posts encouraging violence
0:49
and contributing to the storming of the capital last week, which in turn led Google, Apple, and Amazon to pull the app.
0:55
Parler is now suing Amazon under a theory of antitrust
0:59
saying that the ban reduces competition. And while some are welcoming the ban,
1:03
citing real world consequences of internet misinformation and violence mongering,
1:07
others are concerned that the move sets a dangerous precedent allowing just a few large corporations
1:12
to police online speech. Thankfully, we're all reasonable people
1:17
and can recognize that both of these things can be true at the same time. Right?
1:21
We can do that, right? - [Man] Wait, wait, what? - Yeah.
1:24
- [Man] I think I should be mad at you. - LG showed off some interesting stuff at CES
1:29
including their Rollable phone! - [Man] Woo! - Not just a rollable TV. - [Man] Whoa, what?
1:32
- That's been rumored for some time now. The company released a brief glimpse
1:36
during a virtual CES 2021 event. And it looks like the phone is also going
1:40
to be called the LG Rollable when it hits the market.
1:43
Dude, is that a Rollable? You bet, buddy. (laughing)
1:48
It should give Samsung some competition in the foldable, rollable phone space.
1:52
I can't believe I'm saying that. But no word yet on pricing or availability.
1:56
I mean $2,500 though, why not? LG also wants to make it a bit easier
2:00
for you to use your next gen consoles on your TV with a new game optimizer
2:05
rolling out with this year's modules. Models. - [Man] Same thing!
2:09
- Which lets you quickly enable a variable refresh rate and reduce input lag from one menu.
2:13
In addition, the company's 2021 TV lineup will come with support for Google Stadia and G-Force now,
2:18
even though the TV is run on LG's wacky web OS and not on Google TV,
2:22
which doesn't even have Stadia yet. - [Man] Aww! (indistinct) my Stadia that I love!
2:28
- I haven't even said the craziest part yet, which is that LG had a virtual influencer of some type
2:33
announce some of their products and I don't know about you, but I am way more likely to buy a TV
2:38
when I hear about it from a badly voiced CGI avatar instead of a real human.
2:43
- [Man] Oh, yeah. - Because I hate humans. I'm a misanthrope! And like many others,
2:47
you may not have been able to get your hands on a RTX 3000 graphics cards yet.
2:52
But instead of that, what about a laptop with one of these hard to find GPUs instead?
2:57
It looks like during tomorrow's NVIDIA event at CES, team green is going to announce
3:01
RTX 30 hundred mobile chips.
3:05
And, well, unlike the current gen mobile CPU's,
3:08
they're not supposed to be that good.
3:11
(laughs) The rumor is they suck, as Linus talked about on WAN Show,
3:16
you can check that out on LMG clips if you just want to see that little snippet.
3:19
But on the bright side, the 3080 Max-Q should have even more VRAM than the desktop 3080.
3:25
A lot more, in fact, with 16 gigabytes being the expectation
3:28
instead of the 10 that you would get on a discreet card.
3:32
A lot of vocal flubs there, but you get what I'm saying. There should also be resizable BAR support
3:36
which is the same technology behind AMD's smart access memory for its Radeon lineup.
3:40
But no matter how good or not good these laptops may be on paper,
3:45
they are not good at all if they're not in stock. So, come on 2021.
