0:05 - Imagine a gaming headset, but expensive.
0:08 That's the Master And Dynamic MG20 Wireless Gaming Headset
0:13 or headphones, as they say. You can use them for casual listening and for gaming.
0:19 Let's check it out. Whoa, that sleeve just wants to slip right on outta here.
0:23 Cool case, it looks like a type of cardboard that is, I would say low impact, more sustainable.
0:29 It looks reused, I like it. Interesting.
0:32 It's just the headphone and then a boom ARM for the mic.
0:37 I don't wanna get too, ah, distracted by those right now though.
0:41 Let's do the unboxing, let's focus. Here's the microphone.
0:46 Looks like some, can you see it? There's some shmoo on there I feel like I could scratch off.
0:51 It's a flexible, quite flexible mic boom ARM
0:55 you can use the headphones with or without it, you can even talk with or without this.
1:00 So, I'm gonna try a sound test for both mic modes later on.
1:04 There's a sub box and the sub sub box. Let's deal with this first.
1:08 Literature, a quick start guide. Not gonna use that.
1:11 And a purse, bag, man sac.
1:15 This is kind of interesting. It's canvas. There's a zipper pocket at the bottom for accessories
1:20 for like the mic boom ARM. It's actually soft on the inside. It's softer than the canvas exterior.
1:25 Zipper is really nice. And then the top opens, this feels like a magnet.
1:30 How do they work? I don't know, but then they got some tags there too.
1:34 Your microphone is meant to go in there, not in this zipper pocket, that zipper pocket's all bonus, baby.
1:39 And it's not so deep that you lose it. This is a soft case.
1:42 You could still sit on and break these headphones in here,
1:45 but they're gonna protect them from scratches, abrasions
1:49 and they're gonna hold all your accessories together. So, it's still appreciated.
1:53 Come on out now. Now, these headphones come in two colors.
1:57 This is, okay, put it in the other way, guys.
2:02 This is actually like a problem.
2:05 Oh my God, I'm defeated. It's out.
2:09 I would recommend maybe going plug side down.
2:12 Oh, whoa, I didn't notice this stuff before. There's actually a little pop filter for the boom ARM.
2:20 They don't show that in any of their marketing, which is very minimalist.
2:23 We also have a dongle, the low latency adapter for g-g-gamers.
2:28 And then we've got two cables. One of them is USB-C 2A and the other, oh, wow.
2:35 Hold on. Is USB-C headphone too, three and a half millimeter adapter
2:41 for probably not your phone and then there's also the splitter.
2:47 If you've got separate mic and headphone ports
2:50 on say your motherboard. I'm gonna test with a phone later.
2:53 These aren't designed for the phone. They are 32 ohms of impedance,
2:57 whereas some more mobile-focused headphones would be say, 18 ohms.
3:02 That's what my Audeze Sine are, but we're gonna try it anyway. They may just not go that loud, but we'll find out.
3:07 Now I was hoping that we got the other color. This is black.
3:10 I think they call it onyx. There's also a white,
3:13 which I thought looked really smart. I'm noticing that these do not rotate all the way flat.
3:19 They actually don't rest on the table completely. It's kind of like the camera bump on your phone.
3:24 That may be sufficient though because you just need them to lay down on your chest.
3:28 And they do that. These headphones are sweet because they're gaming headphones,
3:34 but they actually look cool. So, I think a lot of gaming headphones,
3:37 they look a little, plastic-y, clunky, a lot of RGB on them,
3:42 which is cool for some people, but other people want a more minimalist,
3:45 Nordic, mature kind of look. They are of course, very expensive, $450 U.S., 450 euros.
3:52 But, here's what you get for that. Magnesium ear cups that are, they feel very light.
3:57 The action of the rotation is very smooth. They're not very creaky.
4:03 They're quite silent. That is huge. The ear pads, these are lambskin.
4:09 They feel very soft, like a leather jacket I bought from Moores as a high schooler
4:13 that I had for many, many years. They're an over-ear design with 50 millimeter beryllium drivers.
4:19 You can see them there. And these go on just, yep, magnetically with some,
4:23 see those keynote circles there? So yeah, a little bit of a friction fit
4:28 and a little bit of magnet action. Then the headband, it has alcantara on the inside.
4:35 Not a lot of padding. This really does feel like it could compress
4:38 maybe after an hour of wearing it. And maybe this headband would dig in.
4:42 They weigh about 320 grams once you get the mic ARM on there,
4:47 that boom ARM just clicks in pretty snugly.
4:52 The plug part goes in and then there's an additional little click. And you can kind of see that
4:55 there's this little plastic bite out of it that you can feel that extra click because of that.
5:00 The action of the adjustment that's what you're getting.
5:04 So, your head can be that much bigger than mine. My head is I would say small to medium.
5:09 You can actually feel that this headband is ribbed on your head.
5:13 Those are speed holes, guys. That's for radiating heat.
5:17 Now, I noticed there's buttons on the sides, but I didn't yet touch them.
5:22 Each side has a wheel. This side's wheel is ratcheted.
5:26 You can actually hear it click while you're wearing them.
5:30 This side's wheel is also ratcheted. So, this one is for appears to be volume.
5:35 This appears to be the volume of your mic, your speaking volume versus the volume that you hear.
5:41 There's a button here. It looks like it could be on off.
5:44 It's pretty tactile. It's not too cliquey. And there's a button over here that says 7.1
5:48 and another button that says Bluetooth. So you don't need to use that dongle that it comes with.
5:53 And then there's, I guess that's an indicator light. No, that's a microphone.
5:57 That's cool, it actually has this little grill over it.
6:00 Looks really nice and premium. These are an over-ear design.
6:03 So, my ears are completely inside of the ear cups, not an on-ear design,
6:08 but my ears do not touch the drivers themselves, which is a big pet peeve of mine
6:12 and it does happen quite frequently, at least on one of my ears.
6:16 So, it sticks out more than the other one, I guess, but they're not touching.
6:20 And because the ear cups are pretty rigid, these don't really compress too much.
6:24 I feel like even if I was, for some reason laying on my side,
6:27 I still wouldn't have my ears really touch the drivers.
6:31 Comfort, pretty good. Caliper pressure, which is like this way, not too high.
6:35 Maybe if you had a big melon, they would be, but they don't squeeze too hard.
6:41 They do move quite a bit. Don't take these to the gym and try to bench press stuff.
6:46 Cool, well I guess it's time to hear what they sound like.
6:50 Right after this message from our sponsors. Thanks to Volta for sponsoring today's video,
6:54 clean up your desk and declutter your workspace with the Volta GIGA Charger,
6:58 which can charge four devices simultaneously. It comes in either 130 watt or 200 watt configurations,
7:04 and they also have the anchor three-in-one, magnetic wireless charger stand.
7:08 They have express worldwide shipping with a 30-day money back guarantee.
7:11 So, learn more about their chargers today at the link below. You can probably even charge these puppies.
7:16 Is there gonna be a tone or something? Whoa, there's all these like THX sounds happening.
7:21 Ah, okay, it's pulsing. I guess that means, yeah, you can see that.
7:24 It's trying to pair that way, but I got this dongle going.
7:27 Do I have to press this Bluetooth connection button?
7:31 It made like a sword into a sheath sound like, shhk.
7:35 I hear nothing. Finally, I can hear something through these headphones.
7:38 All right, I got it. Okay, finally listening wirelessly.
7:43 Whoa, cool. I can already tell from just taking my mouse,
7:47 mousing over these interface elements, you know, they have that really cliquey kind of Rolodex sound.
7:52 I can tell that the soundstage is kind of wider than I'm used to in a headset.
7:58 It just sounds like those clicks, they're not just like right in my ear. They're kind of, they're out here somewhere.
8:03 It's more spacious. That's sweet. Make it a free for all.
8:06 - Can you hear us? - I can't hear you guys really. You guys are talking about me?
8:11 Yeah, these are pretty isolating. They say that they have a balanced kind
8:15 of closed slash open design. I don't really know what that means looking at it.
8:18 I do see on the ear cups that there's these,
8:22 what I would think are vents right here. So, maybe that's contributing to a wider,
8:27 more natural soundstage, which is what open backs are characteristic of.
8:30 But, these are mostly closed. And, to the extent that they're pretty isolating,
8:33 I couldn't really hear you guys at all. These are a little bit warm, I'll say that.
8:37 They're already a bit warm 'cause they do seal pretty closely around my ear.
8:41 And they have that lambskin as we talked about. Well, I'm definitely immersed.
8:46 Oh no, no, no. (guns firing) I got killed by that guy from rusted aldrin.
8:50 These headphones are sweet though, sound-wise this isn't a review just an unboxing,
8:54 but these don't like automatically suck. Man, I am slaying.
8:58 Oh God. So, this is what it sounds like with the internal microphone array ,no boom ARM.
9:04 That's what I've been using this whole time. Now, let's try plugging in the boom ARM.
9:07 And I got the boom ARM just totally straight, wind sock on.
9:10 It's not pointing toward my mouth at all. That's what it sounds like.
9:13 Now, I'm gonna angle it so it's like basically right,
9:17 one finger width away from my lips. And that's what that sounds like. And that same configuration,
9:21 but with no wind sock sounds like this. Peter penis applause, Peter Parker, pickles, pepper, blah.
9:29 Peter Parker, pickles, penis, pickled penis in a jar. No!
9:32 That's what that sounds like with a sock on and off.
9:36 Sweet action. I'm gonna try using it with my phone now.
9:39 Let's see if I crank it. I'm at three quarters.
9:42 It's already louder than I would normally use. So yeah, your phone can drive these fine.
9:46 Let's see maxing it out here. Oh, oh, don't max them out, guys, not good.
9:53 Maybe with a better amplification that'd be okay, but like that got kinda rough and muddy.
9:58 Distorted when I turned it up all the way. The mids are super clear.
10:02 The vocals are coming through nice. I haven't made a determination on the bass yet.
10:06 It's definitely present. I just don't know if it's very tight. So, let's do some experimentation here.
10:12 Do they have any controls on here? Can I pause and stuff? I have this multifunction button.
10:16 What does that do? Tapping it paused.
10:22 Tap it once more to play. If I go double tap.
10:25 Oh, it does go to the next track. I wonder if I go one, two, three.
10:29 Uh, I think that just did next again. One, two, three.
10:33 No, you can go back. Little finicky though, it took two tries.
10:36 And if I hold it, Google assistant?
10:39 No, it just paused it. Oh, there is the Google assistant.
10:43 Okay. So yeah, it can do everything that you would expect
10:46 with that multifunction button. But many of those things took me two tries.
10:50 Let's see what's up in the app. We're on English, bro. Oh, one thing I wanted to try is if I take them off,
10:55 will they pause?
10:59 No. They said that they have detection so that you get longer battery life
11:04 'cause they advertise 22 hours of battery life. 50% of that you can get in half an hour,
11:09 but they say that they preserve battery life by pausing automatically and these definitely did not.
11:13 I can still hear Peter McCormick talking here on his podcast. Got a battery level here.
11:17 Oh, there's an update available. Wow, I guess I gotta take that.
11:22 (light music) Okay.
11:25 25% done. (light music)
11:29 it went like thrash, grunge, new metal.
11:33 (light music) Let's go update, let's go.
11:37 (light music)
11:40 Update complete, yeah. All right, I got a battery meter, 100%.
11:43 I'm up to date. What do we have in the hamburger menu? Quick start guide, support, legal links, language,
11:49 nothing I want. Settings, sound profile. They give us some EQ here.
11:53 There's no EQ flat, which is the default.
11:56 That's nice, that's what it should be. E-sport, now again, this is a gaming headset.
12:01 It's not just headphones. That's why it doesn't just have genre based EQs.
12:06 Bass boost is cranking. It's kind of V shaping it. It's cranking the bass and lowering the mids
12:12 while leaving the highs flat. And then can I do whatever I want on here?
12:16 Is there a custom? Come on, man. Auto off timer, never or 10, 30, 60 minutes, three hours.
12:23 Your device will power off if the empty 20 detects is not being worn.
12:26 Oh, okay, so that's why it wasn't pausing. Okay.
12:30 So, it's not ever gonna pause when you take them off, but it will automatically turn them off.
12:33 So, if I set that to 10 minutes and then I take them off and I let them sit here,
12:37 they'll power down after 10 minutes if they detect that they're still not connected on my head.
12:42 Okay, that's cool. Restore app default settings. Dude, there's barely any settings.
12:46 I'm kind of disappointed by the app. I really wished that I'd be able to mess with the EQ.
12:50 That's it? Hey, I guess I'm glad it exists, better than nothing.
12:55 Overall then, I think this is a good headset. I think the sound is good enough.
13:00 These are expensive, but they're also versatile. You're not limited to just using this headset as a headset
13:07 that never leaves your desk. You can ride transit with it and just treat it
13:11 like your music listening headphone. So, for that reason,
13:14 I think the sale price is less daunting.
13:17 There's also an aesthetic you get with these that is worth a premium above, I dunno,
13:22 your Turtle Beach Plastic Fantastics. Because if you care about the look of your battle station,
13:28 you have a really cool prominent, headphone hanger and a really minimal aesthetic.
13:32 There needs to be gaming headsets that match that aesthetic
13:37 and this is them. Overall I think they sound okay. I would rather buy these than the Apple AirPods Macs.
13:43 - Really? - Which are, I mean, those are more expensive than these and less versatile.
13:47 These are pretty good. I think they're worth exploring. Someone could do a deeper exploration
13:52 to the sound quality, look for reviews for that.
13:55 But these, they don't suck. The price isn't outrageous for what you get.
13:59 This little thing just flew into my, (blowing), it's stuck on my skin now.
14:03 Just stay on there. Watch "ShortCircuit" forever, guys, see you later.
