0:00 oh my God all right guys welcome to the W show and I'm down a pair of earphones
0:06 for monitoring so technical difficulties
0:09 abound uh we've got a great show for you guys today though there is a ton of
0:13 fantastic news I'm also going to have some early thoughts on the Droid Turbo
0:20 which is the phone that I have just started using as of last night and I'm
0:24 pretty darn impressed with so far and of course he's going to talk about Oculus
0:28 because the the Oculus excitement fairies visited in the night and told us
0:33 that the retail version is coming soon uh so let's go through what our main
0:37 topics for today are there's of course a ton of news from BlizzCon and not just
0:41 like Hearthstone now with tablets I mean
0:44 they have that too yeah but there's other stuff um now you can use your Gmail app
0:50 with any email service including ones
0:54 like Hotmail who completely lacked apps
0:57 for years and years and years and years and years and just generally kind of
1:00 suck as a mobile experience now you can just use the Gmail
1:04 interface yeah Google can have your data without even storing anything on their
1:10 servers now they can just skim it and let someone else deal with that problem
1:13 that's right zman is bankrupt or not
1:17 maybe Uh something's going on anyways and just as like the trustiest Ste
1:22 machine you could ever possibly imagine get the pun anyways Ubisoft keeps on
1:27 digging and was able to push through through the news of their horribleness
1:32 through all the mess of BlizzCon news which is a lot impressive and important
1:36 stuff I'm not even mad that's just amazing like wow good
1:42 work you are at an impressive level of stuff that is really good good work all
1:49 right so let's roll the intro here let's see if it's set up correctly cuz I didn't do
1:53 it there sound all right okay now um
2:00 shoot I forget which one of it it was one of our sponsors asked very nicely to
2:04 go first so it's going to be a 50/50 coin talks at this point CU I don't know
2:07 who it was I don't know which one all right so our sponsors today are
2:13 linda.com visit linda.com show so that we get credit for
2:18 referring you to linda.com which I guess
2:21 benefits us somehow woo woo also
2:24 dollarshaveclub.com shave time and shave
2:28 money you know we should just do both of the we should do both of the sponsors at
2:32 the same time from now on so it should just be like Linda shave Shave Club
2:38 shave.com yeah shave your knowledge and expand your beard yeah wait
2:44 what no opposite of that I can't take credit that was that was Nick's idea
2:49 Wrong Way Around apparently I got them wrong but that's okay cuz I'm not going
2:52 to your know and shave your beard no expand your sh expand your beard shave
2:55 your knowledge we do both the same ex is that is that a movember thing yeah your
3:00 beard sh member and like expand your beard shave your wallet that's November
3:05 cuz you have to donate to the member cause and you have to expand your beard
3:09 and you have more to donate to the member cause because Dollar Shave Club
3:13 saves you money on razors there you
3:16 go all right so let's get into our first topic today which is going to be uh that
3:22 blizzard should just stop making games because they're cinematic trailers for
3:27 things um the the the Warlords of dra
3:30 one uh the the one for OverWatch that
3:34 just came out today that I was like Spellbound by okay so I love animated
3:38 movies I love The Incredibles that's one of my favorite movies of all time I
3:43 loved mega mind like that action
3:46 animated movies turns me on seriously so
3:51 that trailer today oh man I'm glad I was
3:54 alone in the room because I would have knocked something over with the
4:00 yeah so freaking awesome and and they didn't pull that
4:06 whole BS Square Enix thing where there's like a 16 minute long cinematic trailer
4:11 of like some really impressively spiky-haired dude with like an
4:15 impressively huge sword that's also a gun and a laser beam or something like
4:20 twirling around with it or whatever uh we didn't get any of that or like like
4:24 you know dramatic silence Broody thing
4:27 and then no gameplay cuz they know we're not going to like it uh no instead we
4:32 actually got a Gameplay trailer do you want to talk about the Gameplay trailer for OverWatch yeah so the one thing I
4:37 really liked about the Gameplay trailer for OverWatch just to completely reiterate what you just said was um that
4:42 they showed every single this is why I love having you as a sidekick just say
4:46 exactly what you just said um they showed every single character which I
4:49 really appreciated and they showed um what I think was the complete move set
4:54 as far as I could tell I had to watch it like twice and I was referencing a sheet
4:58 that shows like their two main moves and their ultimate but if you looked really
5:02 closely it looks like they actually show all of their moves including their
5:06 ultimate now the the Assassin dude with the Dual pistols pretty much every
5:10 single time they showed him on screen they showed his ultimate which was kind of funny but I was trying to figure out
5:15 the first time I watched it I was like why does he just get to instant kill everyone around him all the time right I
5:20 was like this doesn't seem fair at all I figured out later on it's his
5:24 ultimate thing they should just call that class the douchebag yeah well he's
5:29 a still character so it's kind of I know
5:32 how games work no I mean the douchebag comment he's a stealth character so it
5:36 kind of works yes I guess how I see them when I play games anyways um it looks
5:42 really good a what a lot of people are pointing out is that while it's like the
5:45 first new IP in Forever that's largely because it's like it's Titan they just
5:50 removed everything except for the PVP portion and then they were like Yay
5:53 whole game um that's well that's a like
5:57 large amount of speculation I don't know if that's that's actually true that's what a lot of people are saying and it
6:01 makes sense um and I don't know if I'm
6:05 against it cuz this looks really cool as it's own game and I'm hoping that by
6:09 being its own game they can expand on it a little bit more instead of having it a
6:13 canned experience within a larger thing and um even talking to people that are
6:18 really into Wow since they kind of abandoned the whole Titan idea and
6:21 brought some of those MMO guys back to the wow experience wow has gotten a lot
6:25 better because of that so it kind of makes sense I'm I'm pretty stoked for
6:29 over watch actually I signed up for the beta already it looks fun and I like
6:33 games that are just kind of just fun yeah being super hardcore it just looks
6:38 like well they're going to have to still work hard to balance it if you're going
6:41 to if you're going to compete with something like Team Fortress that's fun
6:46 and really well balanced for hardcore as long as you don't go over the top with
6:50 some of the stupid stuff that goes on um if if they can achieve both of those
6:55 things and blizzard is one of the companies where I kind of look at it and
6:58 I go well who actually has the pedigree to go head-to-head with valve as one of
7:03 the only two competitors in an entire
7:06 genre yeah I could see them doing it balance has never in my they're really
7:12 good at it they're really good at it in some Realms in some ways um I I don't
7:17 personally think they've done very well with World of Warcraft Arenas which is
7:20 part of the reason why they were actually pushed out of I can't remember
7:24 what very large gaming tournament I can't believe the MLG was it they push
7:30 out of some huge gaming tournament because they were just like your thing is horribly unbalanced and this is just
7:35 ridiculous um so yeah but that is a
7:38 really that's part of the reason why I said I'm I'm totally okay with it being
7:41 its own canned experience right because I don't want the other stuff to mess
7:44 with it and if it doesn't mess with it then they might be able to work on
7:47 things like balance much more effectively looks like a lot of fun though so you can sign up for the beta
7:52 which is coming in 2015 at playoverwatch.com I'm glad that they're
7:56 taking their time to polish it like they're not even do I mean it looks
8:00 pretty playable right now but that means
8:03 that you never yeah you never really know trailers probably not working on
8:08 artwork assets so much anymore they're probably fine-tuning the actual gameplay
8:12 and maps and the actual experience of playing the game so so I'm really
8:16 excited to see it I'm I want to play with it I I like that it's 6v6 yeah I
8:20 think that's pretty cool it's it's just pushing it that much more and if they
8:25 try to make it competitive 6v6 then I mean there's a lot more room for dynamic
8:30 gameplay especially as you throw in all these different classes yeah there's a
8:34 ton I don't know the exact number but there's a really large amount yeah so
8:38 and they're they're uh they're pushing the whole it's a character instead of it
8:41 being a class but it's it's a class oh whatever yeah it's a class there's the
8:45 sniper and there's the engineer and there's the tank guy in it yeah but the
8:49 engineer has a beard now not surprising
8:53 yeah anyways moving on uh should we just do all the blizzard news right now yeah
8:58 sure sure so so yeah I just one last thing we finally got an FPS from
9:03 blizzard we've been waiting for it since ghost yeah I still wish we got ghost and
9:09 back to the Starcraft Universe now you can do your thing okay so so Legacy the
9:13 void will be a standalone game which is interesting and I personally think
9:16 actually a really good idea uh because it'll make the barrier of entry into
9:20 Starcraft a lot easier um because buying
9:24 a new game and then having to buy the two new expansions all these expansions
9:28 for it like the the or $100 battle chest
9:31 that inevita out that's just really
9:34 frustrating so I'm really cool with the fact that they made it a standalone game
9:38 they're doing a few cool things as well other I'm not really going to focus tons
9:42 on like the you get to Pilot this ancient ship and the single player and
9:46 all and there was like a lot of lore around it and it's like really cool
9:50 certain things happened if you like single player Starcraft campaigns go
9:53 play it I do but I don't think a ton of people care so oh well um they're
9:57 introducing a few new modes uh one that looks really interesting is archon mode
10:01 a new co-op and PVP mode where you work with your teammate to control a single
10:06 base and a single Army so you're you're it's two people controlling one team
10:11 essentially that sounds like a lot of fun I actually think so as well I'm
10:14 really stoked for people who are new to the game that kind of thing could be a
10:18 legitimately entertaining way to play in a game with your buddy who's like way
10:24 better I've forced it before because I love this idea I've gone into a 2v2 and
10:28 essentially like we've we've rushed and essentially sacrificed one of our guys
10:32 right and then just given control to the other guy and then one person manages
10:36 the base the other person manages the Army and by being able to quite
10:40 literally be in two places at once it can make two players that would be
10:43 fairly mediocre into like actually really good player yeah and it's it's
10:48 interesting to see how that plays out so it's really cool that it's actually a game mode now yeah I'm going to have a
10:53 lot of fun with that actually I I will I will play that game mode it's probably
10:56 the only thing I'll care about because I like RTS games I enjoy them but I tend
11:01 to be a little bit of a scatterbrain and a little bit kind of add so I will
11:06 completely forget about that you know 16
11:09 units that I queued up and I'll be in a skirmish or whatever and I left 16 guys
11:13 standing next to my barracks and if you could have just just have someone just like pushing units at you while you
11:18 fight and you just get completely fight that would be fun and I'm a base
11:21 micromanager I like building bases right and I I usually just like attacking when
11:26 I have like a huge Army which isn't necessarily
11:29 stry no yeah and then um they have
11:33 another uh Mode called Allied commanders which is another Co-op style mode where
11:37 players join forces through different scenarios and they gain new capabilities
11:42 as they progress and go forward and I don't know a ton about that one but
11:46 again it's this like bringing people together I'm I like rtss a lot I like
11:50 watching 1V one StarCraft I'm not a huge fan of playing 1 V one Starcraft I like
11:55 playing rtss on teams my favorite modes are 2v2 3v3 and before cuz I get to play
12:00 with someone so I like that they're bringing out these these additional
12:04 modes also there's going to be a like online Dynamic tournament system which
12:09 should be really cool which I'm pretty stoked about because people like my
12:12 brother C A Starcraft uh Caster have
12:16 been pretty frustrated with the like tournament support and team support in
12:19 Starcraft so it's cool that they might actually be doing something about it
12:22 also they're bringing in new units which is not surprising and they're bringing
12:25 back the lurker which some people have been waiting for all right so then we
12:29 did promise that one of the things at BlizzCon was going to be Hearthstone
12:34 with tablets just like last year well now it's Hearthstone on different
12:40 tablets Android
12:43 tablets also there's another why wasn't this a thing 9 months ago shortly after
12:49 the iOS release I don't know should have
12:52 been a lot faster I'm pretty stoked that it's finally happening but it's more of
12:56 a like yeah okay thank you instead of like a yay um but they're also releasing
13:02 a new expansion goblins versus gnomes so that'll be cool the previous expansion
13:06 that they released was actually really fun so it's cool to see them expanding
13:09 the game there's also going to be 120 new themed cards which is pretty insane
13:13 hey and you don't have to borrow my iPad anymore yeah hey that worked out for
13:16 everyone all right so let's go ahead and move on to our next topic Intel was
13:22 caught cheating now is this the second
13:25 time oh this is I think or whatever time
13:28 cuz when I first saw the story I was like wait okay there was old article
13:33 there was like the big one where there
13:36 was like allegedly Intel was uh you know
13:41 paying for people to not or deeply
13:45 incentivizing uh their Partners to not carry AMD products and that was I think
13:50 that was like HP and Dell or something
13:53 like that and this was this was back around the same time frame I think a little bit earlier actually whereas this
13:58 is during the Pentium 4 days specifically if you bought a Pentium 4
14:02 based computer sometime between November 20th in the year 2000 and December 31st
14:09 2001 so just over a year of time you bought a P4 you get a $15 cash payout
14:15 for Intel not allegedly it's it's
14:18 confirmed now they were caught so for Intel misrepresenting the performance of
14:23 the Pentium 4 relative to the AMD Athlon
14:28 Thunderbird so if you want your 15 bucks there's no receipt
14:31 necessary and Intel will also be paying $4 million to educational Charities
14:36 which is pretty cool they they have to pay they're not also pay they're not
14:40 like yeah thank you for the unfavorable Court ruling just to who's 4 million
14:45 bucks no it's they have to do that yeah
14:49 so it's one of those things where I think a lot of people will kind of look at this and go you know big bad Intel
14:54 your bad dudes and you know what that was not a cool thing to do I I think
14:58 that based on on our engagement with Intel over the last couple of years they
15:02 treat this kind of stuff really seriously internally now especially
15:06 after that the big lawsuit the one where they had to pay AMD like I can't
15:10 remember how much it was I want to say it was in the neighborhood of hundreds
15:13 of millions or a billion or something like that yeah it was a big deal um so
15:17 ever since I think yeah I vaguely remember that ever since that whole
15:21 thing came to light like they are so
15:24 careful when they talk to us about look say whatever you want do this do do that
15:30 like criticize us publicly if that's what it comes to just be fair and like
15:35 we'll sponsor you we'll have that relationship with you but we can't affect anything you do or say like okay
15:41 but that's good that's how it's supposed to work so yeah they've been yeah
15:45 they're always pretty pretty careful now $15 pants like yeah my computer from
15:50 like high school wasn't fast enough so I want my $15 now you know money the only
15:55 winners from something like this cuz the amount of effort that it takes to make
15:59 the $15 you could probably go fill out online surveys and the only winners are
16:03 people that are like lawyers yeah well lawyers and then people that are like 14
16:08 and then are like Dad can I say that you bought a computer at this time Dad's
16:12 like sure whatever and then that kid gets 15 bucks and then buys a cheap game
16:16 on Steam y yeah so so the lawyers are
16:19 the big Winners but that that's about it speak and an educational charity yeah I
16:23 the charity uh speaking of being a big winner Sony reports a 1.25
16:29 billion loss did I say winner cuz I meant loser um over the last quarter
16:35 1.25 billion usar spearheaded so oh wow
16:40 we haven't been we haven't been posting original posters oh jeez oh no so Intel
16:45 caught cheating was stizzy and the original article was from gizmodo.com
16:48 and this one was posted by Good Bites and the original article is from
16:52 neowin.net not done um the hearstone on
16:56 tablets post was by joners and and the OverWatch post was by
17:02 Graff I need this adapter as long as
17:05 this isn't the one that I marked dead and should just throw away because it
17:09 doesn't work uh no this is this is the good one so I normally do is if it's
17:13 dead I cut it in half and then I just throw it away so people don't take it out of the G yeah I actually had a
17:17 problem with people fishing the stuff that I had thrown away out of the
17:20 garbage I think an Ethernet cable made the rounds like four times it's like I'm
17:25 just trying to network things I want them to just work
17:29 okay so Linus's screen sharing is evidently not a thing right now Windows
17:34 P so uh yeah no no lonus is not screen
17:38 sharing today okay so from neowin uh Sony reports $ 1.25 billion dollar in
17:43 losses led by Wright mostly due to their mobile division which is a real shame
17:48 because I I don't know about necessarily the rest of their lineup but the Experia
17:53 Z2 is a really solid phone and it doesn't get the amount of attention that
17:58 I really think it deserves I mean they were one of the first ones to to glom on
18:02 to that idea that oh wow we should make
18:06 the battery bigger I mean it's got a 3200 mamp battery which is significantly
18:11 more than most of its competition and they were the first ones to Pioneer that
18:14 whole waterproof thing remember how much our brains exploded at C when they had
18:19 like the dunk tank with the phone yeah that was actually pretty cool if if they
18:24 had a stock Android skin instead of
18:27 their Sony skin I probably would have bought a Z3 by now cuz I'm up for an
18:31 upgrade so I okay I wouldn't have I would have upgraded through my phone
18:35 plan to a Z3 so their movie division had an operating loss of 10 million which in
18:40 the grand scheme of things is actually not not that bad you know they could
18:44 have sold a couple more tickets to something and that it's kind of a you
18:49 kind of look at that and you go okay well maybe it'll be better next quarter Hollywood accounting and all that kind
18:54 of stuff yep and so you know revenues
18:58 increased in total 7% although I personally as much as investors might
19:02 care about this kind of thing like Wall Street kind of cares about this I kind
19:05 of look at it and I go so what you sold more but you lost more money how is that
19:09 how is that a business strategy that's not that's not a good sign that just
19:13 means you slashed your prices to liquidate and then you like from on a
19:17 very sort of micro level obviously they're doing it on a much larger scale
19:21 slashing things and liquidating um and then their music division posted slight
19:27 profits and Playstation 4 maintained healthy sales although I really have to
19:31 wonder with the way AAA gaming is
19:35 going is PlayStation 4 a worthy
19:39 competitor to the Wii U right now oh Wii
19:42 U is smashing it so far and smashing it
19:45 that was actually the point yeah sorry yeah boom um just
19:51 smash smash stick um anyways they're
19:55 they're doing really well and with smash around the corner and with uh what is it
19:58 squid squid RW or I can't remember the name of the game U Splatoon there we go
20:03 with that around the corner getting really really good reviews the Wii U has
20:07 just been doing incredibly well lately and like something that I thought was
20:11 amazing which I tweeted out not that long ago was a whole bunch of Xbox and
20:15 Playstation like that style of nextg console Fanboys ragging on Wii U before
20:21 Xbox One and PS4 had been released right and like you think it's cool that you
20:25 can run like 1080p 60 FPS that's pathetic
20:29 oh yeah I get a kick out of how many console Fanboys still think that they're
20:33 getting 4K at some point no you aren't no dude no um I I
20:39 don't I don't know I think it still will um because no matter how much I can go
20:44 like yeah the best setup is a a Wii U and a PC or if you just have like little
20:49 kids maybe just a Wii U or something um because I'm a huge fan of Wii U and I'm
20:53 a huge fan of PC gaming it's it's it's it's in this this weird
20:59 situation where uh like kind of like with World of Warcraft in a lot of ways
21:03 you want to play a game that all your friends are playing yeah that's one of the big reasons why World of Warcraft
21:07 exploded is because if people wanted to play a game with a lot of their friends
21:11 it it just catalyzed so quickly because so many people started playing it just
21:14 blew up and that happens with consoles as well I I remember being in high
21:18 school I wanted to play games with my friends every single friend that I had
21:23 was playing on consoles and then there's like me with my computer I'm like yay
21:27 okay hey guys do you want to get together and play some games um where do
21:31 I plug in my mouse and keyboard they're like what eventually I was able to like
21:36 move everyone over onto my team but um yeah there was a lot of console playing
21:40 I had an Xbox I played Halo 2 online it was actually fantastic cuz Halo 2 was an
21:45 amazing game really so you didn't like catch the leprosy or something console
21:49 leprosy after Halo 2 I ditched hard I bought Halo 3 and I was like wow this
21:53 game's terrible and then I then I
21:56 stopped um but yeah by that point I had moved a lot
22:00 of my friends to PC gaming anyways so it just kind of worked out but like I I get
22:04 it I understand why so many people are into it um I think it's
22:08 actually I'm part of that like PC Master race group where it's like I actually
22:12 feel bad for them like I wish their experience was better their consoles
22:17 just suck but no if you look back at it most console releases they lose money
22:21 when they sell the machine and then they make money back on games and controllers
22:24 and stuff now they're making money from selling machine cuz it's a giant piece of crap like
22:29 they had well it's a small piece of crap it's a very slim lined piece of crap it
22:33 doesn't smell bad it could so it's it could yes it smell is not static anyways
22:39 um yeah I I wish they had a better experience they just
22:43 don't okay you know what's kind of funny we have surprisingly few live viewers
22:47 today and I'm not quite sure what's going on ah yes the announcement video
22:51 on YouTube never went live for some reason it's sitting right
22:55 here invalid request Authentication
22:58 expired well that's clever let's go ahead and actually announce that we're
23:02 live because that would be fantastic that's the kind of thing that you should
23:06 do if you're live and streaming a vide you should be like yo dog I'm live y'all
23:10 should come watch right about now it's going to be pretty cool and awesome and
23:14 can't believe we didn't do this I sort of suspected something earlier but then
23:18 I got all carried away ranting about something and then I got distracted so
23:22 speaking of branting about things and getting distracted HTC's new charger
23:25 gets your mobile charging up to 40% faster so it takes advantage this is not
23:30 an HTC technology it takes advantage of qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology
23:36 so the 1 M8 1 E8 1 M8 HK Edition Harmon
23:40 Cardon Edition it's very special um and the desire ey can all utilize this new
23:45 charger so they figure the certified charger can restore 60% to a 3300
23:51 milliamp battery in just 30 minutes
23:54 that's awesome I like that it's backwards compatible it's called the HTC rapid charger 2 .0 and it not only works
24:00 with the newer devices that support qualcom Quick Charge 2.0 but also older
24:04 devices that support Quick Charge 1.0 albe it at a lesser rate so if I I've
24:10 actually got at least you know what I'm pretty sure the Droid Turbo has a Quick
24:15 Charge 2.0 but I also have a 1 M8 so we have a quick charger on order already
24:21 not from HTC it's a different one that um I'm going to try out I'm going to see
24:24 how much of a difference it makes because I think that even though we
24:28 haven't gotten to that revolutionary stage yet where we can charge our
24:32 batteries in 15 seconds wirelessly or
24:36 you know or we have batteries that last for 5 days at a time or whatever else
24:39 that's what I'm hoping for if I can recharge in half an hour to an hour
24:46 let's say and I can get a full day no
24:49 matter how hard I abuse it out of the capacity of that battery then that's at
24:54 least a massive step towards that revolu
24:58 uary Next Step the really cool part uh in my opinion about this like you can
25:02 get 60% in half an hour isn't even the half an hour part it's how much that
25:06 comes down to in like a 2 minute or 5
25:10 minute frame the the burst like oh my God I need a little bit battery but 7
25:14 minutes and 9 seconds before I need to walk out the door my phone is almost
25:19 dead can I get through this date that's probably going to be horrible by texting
25:23 on my phone the whole time if it dies what am I going to do I'm going to have
25:26 to actually look at her face which which is horrible like that kind of thing
25:30 right yeah it's that would be really helpful it's I don't a lot of the times
25:35 if if it's going to be able to sit there for half an hour it's going to be able to sit there for 3 hours it's going to
25:39 be able sit there for more than that it's the very short burst charging that
25:44 excites so I'm going to use this to segue into my initial thoughts about the
25:49 Droid Turbo from Motorola this is a Verizon exclusive device and honestly
25:54 that's the biggest complaint I can come up with about it is that not everyone
25:59 everywhere right now can buy it it's very early stages I first signed in to
26:05 my Google account on it uh 21 hours ago
26:08 so I've been using it for very little time but is it Verizon exclusive for the
26:14 world like it not coming to Canada no no I think I think it's going to be there's
26:17 rumors that it'll be called the Droid Max or the uh the Moto Max or something
26:22 like that'll have like a different name yeah so it'll have a different name or whatever but it'll probably be a very
26:25 similar phone um what's cool about it is and I'm this is a review unit so I'm not
26:29 sure if this will apply to the retail ones but the Verizon of it is that I
26:35 can't use MMS Verizon doesn't allow MMS messages outside their own network and
26:39 that's pretty locked um even after I rooted my my wife's Droid DNA she never
26:44 got MMS working um so so there's that um
26:48 limitation number two is that it it comes with some Verizon stuff
26:51 pre-installed on it that you can go make a folder for somewhere and hide it and
26:55 then limitation number three is that when you first put in your sim it boots
26:59 up and says blah blah blah this is not a Verizon sim and then you press okay and
27:04 it drops you on the home screen nice so it doesn't I so what I'm
27:09 hoping is everyone will be able to buy one even if they can't necessarily get
27:12 one with a carrier subsidy because the 3900 milliamp battery in here they're
27:18 claiming 2 days that's Motorola's sort of quote is we want you to get through
27:21 48 hours per charge and I'm going to go you know what phone enthusiasts yeah it
27:26 ain't happening you know it's not going to be two days unless you were already
27:30 getting one and 2/3 of a day out of an
27:33 Experia Z2 you're not going to get two days out of this cuz it's like that much
27:37 more but what I want from it and what it
27:41 looks like I'm going to get is like one tank day like no matter what I do to it
27:46 so today I am hitting it as hard as I
27:50 can like I used my GPS navigation to go
27:53 to work and back so that was a total of an hour today already no more than that
27:57 about an hour and that used to kill I my my phone used to
28:01 die from Full to zero completely on one
28:05 of that trip One Direction of that trip that you just pulled so I've had music
28:08 running all day I've had the screen brightness just kind of managing itself
28:12 rather than doing anything special with it I've had Bluetooth on I've had
28:16 everything on and I've been I've been constantly on it I've been doing all my
28:19 emails and all my prep pran show I did on here instead of on my computer and
28:24 I'm still at 37% and I'm tethering to my
28:27 laptop throughout the entire W show like I'm trying to throw a worst case
28:30 scenario at it and if it can make it through this day and he's leaving the screen on his whole time yeah with even
28:35 like I'm I'm hurting ity if it can make it through this day with 5% left with
28:39 all my apps and all my services running in the background including the Moto 360
28:44 connectedness um I'm going to be really impressed and this is going to be my new
28:48 daily driver for sure yeah so there you
28:51 go that's my initial thoughts full review to come though of course people
28:54 are asking about uh full room water cooling it come it'll come I have a post
28:59 in the water cooling section about it it's it'll it'll be on the way and then
29:02 mineral oil we have like a uh Monday night Monday night okay Monday night
29:07 it's on the schedule it's actually edited now perfect there you go yeah I
29:10 thought we had a date I wasn't sure so I didn't want to see it so yeah Monday night Min oil is coming tell you what um
29:16 tomorrow is the Sennheiser momentum INE
29:19 earphones tomorrow night uh the following night is LG curved surround
29:24 part one and then the night after that is oil cooled part two which should also
29:28 be really cool so it's all going to be really good stuff for the next few days
29:32 here I haven't even seen oil cool part two I'm excited I watched number one I
29:36 was like wow that was really cool and I was like wait a second I was in that yeah I was there
29:41 y uh yeah Burl got it down to 13 minutes
29:45 nice yeah so it's PR three hours of footage or something it's pretty compact
29:48 yeah it's going to be good all right so speaking of things that are going to be good oh my goodness this is freaking
29:55 awesome oh yeah now you can use your Gmail app with other email accounts like
30:00 I don't know about you guys but I still have a hotmail.com account that is tied
30:05 to so many things that it's just way
30:08 more work than it's worth because you know some site will like change their
30:14 domain and send me a notification about it at some point and I'll have like
30:18 something or something and it'll it'll go to that email address but I hate the
30:24 hot mail interface or Outlook or whatever it is they call it these days
30:27 yeah absolutely hate it being able to use that yes especially the mobile one
30:32 being able to use my Gmail app for
30:35 that yeah which means hopefully eventually inbox maybe maybe this isn't
30:41 inbox no we have to be very clear about that new Gmail app which I actually just
30:46 started using it just rolled out to me I updated to it has a very different look
30:50 and feel to it it has that um what are they calling it material design yes I
30:54 think so yeah material design kind of look to it which is just I don't I don't
30:58 care so everything's kind of in the same place some stuff's round
31:03 now like okay yay curved
31:06 edges um so so there's that it's going to match better with um the upcoming
31:11 Android lollipop um but the new Gmail is
31:15 completely separate from inbox which I
31:18 got an invite from someone and thank you so much for that but it hasn't been very
31:21 useful for me because I use my corporate account as my primary email and
31:26 corporate accounts are not able to get get in on Google inbox yet but you have
31:31 been using it you want to talk about it yeah I use I use both um I actually
31:34 mainly use my corporate account as well but I use my personal one uh because I
31:39 have taken all of my like Hotmail accounts and stuff that he was talking about old accounts that are linked to
31:43 too many things to get rid of and I've ported all of them through that one
31:47 remaining personal account that I have um so I'm using that one for like six
31:51 different emails essentially and so I I actually use it I got the invite from
31:55 the same person he did and it's kind of great the email reminder thing is
32:00 fantastic cuz like my mom will send me an email about some family gathering
32:05 thing that I like really need to pay attention to but I got it at 2 p.m. on a
32:08 workday or I'll send you an email at 3 in the morning that you'll kind that
32:13 will get buried by other random crap by the time you actually arrive at work so
32:18 being able to and like I might have received it at 3: in the morning and
32:21 I'll be like oh this is important but starring things in Gmail puts them below
32:25 your important and I just forget about them forever which is not helpful so now
32:30 I can be like remind me and at this specific time or like later today or
32:34 whatever so with say work emails from lonus I'll be like remind me at like
32:38 10:00 a.m. or something like in the morning once I'm at work doing stuff and
32:42 with emails from like my mom I'll be like remind me at like 7 or 8 when I'm
32:46 home and doing random stuff so I find that really really helpful I like the
32:50 reminder system it's great uh will remind you on time it'll put reminders
32:55 of anything inside your email inbox so when when you go to check your emails
32:58 you're like oh I remember this now it's actually a lot more helpful than just
33:02 setting random timed reminders cuz you might be able to remind yourself earlier
33:06 and that'll help you prepare y y y and it's very very easy to get through stuff
33:12 like Amazon plugging you with emails for toasters because you bought a toaster 6
33:16 months ago and it thinks that you need 40 more um because it'll bundle things
33:20 in sections say promotions you can jump into promotions read all the titles and
33:25 it'll give you a little bit of a blurb of the email as well which should be able to explain what it's all about so
33:30 I'll see like Amazon uh like any steam stuff you play
33:36 all that kind of stuff all dumped in one spot with different sales and whatnot
33:39 I'll scroll through it all and be like wow I don't want to spend money checkbox
33:42 they're all gone it's very easy to really really quickly get through those
33:46 types of emails which is really helpful all right so let's go ahead and
33:50 move on to our next actual topic cuz I think we kind of got distracted a couple
33:54 times there in the last little bit HP
33:57 and in uh excuse me HP and Microsoft are
34:02 dropping the hammer no they're dropping a bomb lowering the boom and they're
34:08 doing something with a hammer because
34:11 Chromebooks may not make any sense to me anymore this looks really compelling so
34:18 they've launched the new HP stream lineup that includes the stream seven
34:23 the stream 8 the stream 11 and the stream 13 so the seven and the eight are
34:27 tablets the 7 is a 7-in Windows tablet at
34:31 $100 now they're not really saying anything about specs we do know that
34:35 it's an Intel-based solution so probably some kind of uh super low power atom
34:41 thing or even something else not not 100% sure what it is probably Adam and
34:45 then the eight is an 8in Windows tablet at 150 bucks so this was originally
34:50 posted on the Forum by top war gamer and the original article here is from The
34:53 Verge and this is where things start to get crazy the Stream 8 comes with 200
34:59 Megs of free LTE data each month with no
35:04 contract and right so cool right now presumably through T-Mobile now I've
35:08 been saying for a long time that I think that cloud storage is super cool except
35:14 for when you're on mobile and you're using a layo data limit well now okay
35:20 you're not going to be you're not going to be transferring like movies to and
35:23 from your cloud storage will pretty much be with 200 Megs but if we're talking
35:27 about a tablet that's going to be used predominantly for work well that's lots
35:32 for the odd text document and and some pictures here and there and that sounds
35:37 fantastic especially when I throw in this next little bit which is that both
35:41 tablets get a year of Office 365 one
35:44 tbte of one drive storage and 60 Minutes of Skype calling included in the
35:49 purchase actually kind of awesome that's like I wonder if you break that value
35:54 down what that totals I wonder how close that is to the total cost of the actual
35:57 device I think for the seven that costs more like sticker price then so you
36:02 might as well just buy a seven if you're going to use all those things if you're
36:05 going to use those services but which I could see I pay for an Office 365
36:09 account it's awesome I love it I just the way it works now I really like the
36:14 graph creation and I'm probably going to switch Office 365 just cuz they look
36:17 better and whenever I create graphs they don't look as good anymore yep Office
36:21 365 is really great and I hope that they move Windows to something like that
36:25 because I think that personal licensing makes a lot more sense than
36:30 device Licensing in the modern world where my device is very interchangeable
36:35 I mean I can switch over to a new phone within about you know an hour of dinking
36:39 around and changing desktop wallpapers and ringtones and stuff so the device is
36:43 not is not the important thing the important thing is me I'm allowed to use
36:47 Google Play Music and office and Windows
36:50 or whatever else and wherever I happen to be that should be where all of my
36:53 stuff is and and this this is this is
36:57 that this looks fantastic um now then things get even
37:02 more interesting cuz you could kind of look at and you go okay well line is 7
37:05 an 8 in low speec tablet is not exactly a competitor for uh a Chromebook because
37:10 Chromebooks are are books they're not books they're laptops
37:14 actually but the point is uh is not necessarily the seven and the eight the
37:18 point is the stream 11 and stream 13 so the 11 is an 11.6 in laptop with an HD
37:23 display at 200 bucks and the 13 is a 13
37:27 .3 in laptop that has an option for touchcreen also assumed to be an HD
37:31 display priced at 230 bucks both using dual core cerons with fanless designs 32
37:36 gigs of flash storage and both come with a free year of Office
37:40 365 wow that's kind of awesome you know
37:43 how you said the book thing well laptops aren't technically tops either like
37:49 spinning tops get it get it get it get it that joke was top get it they're not
37:54 they're not oh all right so let's just
37:57 move on now um so you know what we we got to we got a Twitter Blitz this guys
38:02 Chromebook or stream we want to hear from you guys and and maybe I know it's
38:07 140 characters but give us a couple thoughts about why because you look at
38:11 Chrome you look at Chrome OS and you kind of go okay well I can run a Chrome
38:15 browser and I can run all my apps and like you know that's cool they're in my
38:19 browser but I've never liked that experience personally no it's never been
38:23 interested in a Chromebook look I'm trying to present it as if I actually
38:26 think it's a good idea okay so so Chrome OS so you got your and and you know what
38:31 when I did try to use it for a little while whenever I had internet connectivity it wasn't that bad but the
38:36 Chrome experience relies on connectivity
38:39 everything runs in this browser and 365
38:42 doesn't care and well you can use Google's stuff offline and then sync it
38:47 once you reach a connection again like they they do have answers to that but the truth of the matter is that Office
38:53 365 is a paid solution and drive and
38:57 sheets and whatever are not a paid solution because a paid solution one is
39:04 just a lot better than the other one I I'm honestly I like Google Docs because
39:08 of some of the collaboration stuff that allows us to do but a lot of times if
39:12 it's just something that I'm only going to be working on and not other people I
39:15 will use local Solutions like Word and Excel because Google Docs Is Not Great
39:21 better yeah in a lot of ways even H like
39:25 uh I'm going to bring my love for notepad Plus up here for a second but if
39:29 you have it open in two locations and you make revisions in one location and
39:33 save it when you go over to the other location it won't just be broken when
39:37 you try to when you try to even just click on the window it'll be like oh
39:40 this has been saved and remade on another machine would you like to reload
39:43 the file you just say yes and it's so like there's there's even better
39:47 collabor there's like the collaboration for local stuff is even not even that
39:50 bad right if you have multiple computers and like I'll work on something at home and I'll work on something at work and
39:54 if I'm working on at home and then just leave and then save it I'll at work and
39:57 come back and just like oh reload yeah and the thing and and the and that kind
40:02 of collaboration so like personal self collaboration almost is uh is great for
40:07 that but the other kind of collaboration personto person collaboration especially
40:12 where I'm editing something that someone else produced and I want to leave
40:15 comments so and I want to keep like like I want to have like a a really nicely
40:20 organized change history it's much better for me to use something like
40:23 office it just it just work better uh Google Docs has a pretty good change
40:27 history and stuff but I also like I like I like yeah I like offices more um okay
40:34 so right yeah let's go to the Twitter Blitz I want to hear from you guys also
40:39 do our sponsor something what's wrong with the Outlook interface you know what
40:43 I have to confess I haven't used it that recently but if I were to do a review of
40:48 it today I'm sure I could find at least a dozen things that are just brain dead
40:53 about it so I I mainly just don't like the app honestly the online version uh
40:57 like the the web the web version has some pretty annoying crap about it yeah
41:01 but it's not nearly as bad as hotal and it's a lot better than it used to
41:05 be okay Alex says I am all for the hpn
41:09 Microsoft solution is I can't go without my desktop apps and move to a browser
41:12 you know what great point we didn't even bring that up it's a full Windows OS so
41:17 you can actually install things on the on the laptop 32 gigs but but you could
41:23 you can have stuff on it and you're not
41:26 expecting to play games so most of your apps won't even be that big and you can
41:29 probably fit it on well a big problem that I had with Chrome OS was things like codec compatibility and I don't
41:33 know if they've addressed that recently but back when I looked at Acer's
41:36 Chromebook I was like okay so I can
41:39 watch like these videos and not these
41:42 other ones and if you can just install like VC VLC Windows Med player classic
41:47 and cccp you're just good for everything and 32 gigs is not going to be a problem
41:51 that's still lots of storage for just those little things that make your life
41:55 a little bit easier you know fix stuff okay um max says stream because it would
42:00 make a great cheap portable Linux device great point was never interested in
42:05 Chrome or Chrome OS from Agent 47 this might be intriguing for all the extra
42:09 stuff you get Office 365 is actually good oh sure why not let's let's uh
42:15 experiment live and find out what this actually is uh okay yeah you know what
42:20 let's let's make that the official one so let's go ahead and
42:25 uh let's just post that here I hope that
42:28 I'm already logged in cuz otherwise this is going to take me a second sorry
42:34 guys oh oh I typoed I suck I'm a bad
42:38 person Oh no I got it I typoed but it
42:41 logged in anyway so apparently twitch just doesn't
42:45 care all right close ad stop ad please
42:48 just let me send a message in the [ __ ] chat in the
42:53 whoops all right let's pretend that didn't happen all right that's a now so
42:57 let's go ahead and let's go back to Twitter here um oh my God Tony says
43:02 stream because there are no applications for chros no isn't fair but it is very
43:07 limited you're very right definitely the stream 13 cuz I want Windows instead of
43:11 Chrome OS better compatibility spam Jazz oh this is interesting our school
43:15 supplied all the kids with Chromebooks they don't run plugins and players so
43:19 they're sort of a waste I would rather have something running Windows than not
43:23 says Jack I've used Chromebooks and been very unhappy with them MSI mhm okay I
43:30 now want a laptop and it's going to be a stream one with a touch screen really
43:34 interesting I don't think we have ever oh no there we go I was about to say I
43:37 don't think we've ever had the entire audience as unanimous about something as
43:41 this um but BCD says oh I think I think
43:45 he might have misunderstood um two of two of the
43:49 devices are laptops with keyboards yeah
43:52 and they're still that's a good point yeah because especially if you're in a
43:55 production thing like if you're doing work and you need to use acceler word not using a real keyboard is going to be
43:59 really frustrating this is a great point from Austin stream because I I don't
44:03 think it's fair to say it's stupid and pointless but stupid pointless but
44:07 Windows can do everything that Chrome OS
44:11 can and more so if you're getting a lowcost device where you're not saddled
44:15 with that extra $100 burden of the Windows license then yeah why not have
44:21 Windows you can put a Chrome browser on yeah you could still install Chrome and you could still install Chrome apps so
44:27 yeah y Best of Both Worlds chrome chrome
44:30 Chromebooks as far as I can tell I mean I'd love to review one of these laptops
44:34 just so that I can get a feel for the build quality and everything because if
44:38 they're decent I don't understand why Chromebooks get to exist in the world
44:41 anymore at all I never liked them in the first place so now that there's something that just Stomps them and
44:46 actually looks interesting like this is actually intriguing I wouldn't have been able to do it for the schooling I did
44:51 but if you're taking like business or something like that this makes a ton of
44:54 sense especially considering how cheap it is you could almost use it as like a throwaway every
45:00 single time your Office 365 subscription died and just get a new one and it would
45:05 almost be and flip the old one yeah and it would almost be like more cost
45:09 effective than just buying like a$1 th000 laptop and carrying that through
45:13 school because it's actually cheaper and you could just try to sell off your old
45:16 ones as you went through and you'd have a constant Office 365 subscription um
45:21 constant updates on your Skype payment and what's the other one drive a terab
45:26 yeah one drive you'd constantly have a terabit of Drive constantly have Office
45:29 365 which you'd be paying for anyways um constantly have Skype stuff well not
45:33 constantly have a fair amount of Skype time um and then a brand new laptop
45:38 every single year and it's still cheaper than buying one $11,000 laptop I can
45:41 always count on you to give me the like supremely cheap bastard perspective on
45:45 things can't I knowing me I would just buy one of them and then carry it the
45:49 whole way through but if you wanted to
45:53 you could do that as well speaking of being a supremely cheap bastard let's
45:56 move into our sponsor segments here so um we're not going to do the same thing
46:00 that we did for Dollar Shave Club last time around where we used uh a No Name
46:05 razor and I pretended to bleed all over the place that stuff tasted awful but
46:09 what we will do is tell you guys about the benefits of Dollar Shave Club so you
46:13 can get high quality bathroom supplies razors shave butter which is different
46:18 from shave cream and actually not made of butter that would be disgusting can
46:22 you imagine would be really gross smearing butter all over your face it's like yeah shave your face with butter so
46:27 you can break out all over the place and then shave off your zits
46:32 because that's effective No No No Shave butter is just
46:38 this it's just this clear stuff that they have that kind of smells nice and
46:42 you put it on your face to shave and it's nice cuz it's clear so you can kind
46:45 of see what you're doing and all that stuff they've also got their one wipe Charlie peppermint scented butt wipes
46:50 for men but the real big one is of course the razor so you sign up you pay
46:54 a fraction of what you would pay if you were to go to the store and by razors
46:57 you don't actually have to leave your house to look good enough to leave your
47:02 house which is great I love that part certain you do don't you it's
47:07 amazing you should be ashamed of yourself I've been working on a secret
47:11 project so I've got a little bit of stuff going on so visit
47:15 dollarshaveclub.com to learn more and join the club it's available in Canada
47:20 the US and Australia and maybe if you
47:23 guys who aren't in those places clamor loud enough cuz I've personally received
47:29 a ton of requests for Dollar Shave Club to expand outside of those territories
47:33 I'm sitting here I'm going I I I do sponsorship SP run the company yeah I'm
47:37 not the CEO so you guys got to contact them let them know that you're
47:41 interested and uh people in twitch chat keep on and this happens every week but
47:45 people in twitch chat are saying that like oh he doesn't need ra razors he
47:48 obviously doesn't shave you still have to shave if you have a beard like you if
47:52 I didn't it would be like down here and disgusting and like all over my face and
47:56 more disgusting yeah even worse I haven't shaved in a while because it's
48:00 November but yeah I haven't shaved since the
48:04 beginning of November either really no I haven't I was like that looks better
48:08 than when we're at the Highlander thing yeah all right so and then with the
48:13 money that you save by joining Dollar Shave Club you can go learn something so
48:17 go to linda.com wow for a free 7day
48:20 trial of their service where basically what happens is once every night at
48:26 exactly the exact time that they require
48:30 you log into your PC and you do the course that they tell you to do and you
48:35 learn whatever it is that they dictate no I'm just kidding it's actually the
48:38 opposite of that so the idea is that memberships are extremely reasonably
48:42 priced and you learn whatever you want at your own pace they've got stuff
48:46 that's more geared towards hobbyists they've got stuff that's geared towards
48:50 even potentially getting a a job like starting up a new career whether it's
48:54 photography or video editing or
48:57 programming more programming and I get so much positive feedback from our
49:02 viewers and our subscribers who are awesome using linda.com and are like
49:06 holy crap lonus I can't believe I never heard of this they teach things so much
49:09 better than you because they have actual industry experts that do their videos
49:13 it's not how people usually say it but that's kind of what don't teach those things that's what I read into
49:18 it but the point is they're adding new courses all the time it's reasonably
49:22 priced and if you don't like it there's a risk-free 7-Day trial all you have to
49:26 do is sign up for the trial and then if you hate it then don't use it anymore
49:29 and if you like it then use it whatever you want and learn whatever you want CU
49:33 it's a pretty darn cool service that can legitimately turn into job skills that
49:38 you actually use every day like last night three people here use their Linda
49:43 skills all right so that's pretty much
49:46 it for our sponsor spots for the day let's go ahead and move into our next
49:50 topic shall we PayPal I was like Apple pay it's like
49:55 didn't we didn't we talk about last week about how PayPal hasn't really done anything yeah yeah and like they've
50:00 tried to do stuff and but I mean like why did the incumbent sit around and
50:04 wait for Apple to unify everything and like where are the Innovations this is
50:09 an innovation this I'm really excited about PayPal has officially launched
50:13 their pay after delivery service which
50:17 don't think of it as like oh you know free stuff that I don't have to pay for
50:22 or like you still definitely have to pay for yeah you still definitely have to pay for it but the point
50:27 is trust so it allows users to pay for their goods up to 14 days after they
50:32 choose to make a purchase so if you buy from someone I'd love to say someone
50:36 like Amazon Unfortunately they don't take Paypal not at all but if you buy
50:39 from someone else online um then basically it arrives you kind of go like
50:45 yes this appears to be an actual mobile communication device okay it's all good
50:49 so the money doesn't come out of your account until you're satisfied that
50:52 you've actually received the device that you did how cool is that that's freaking
50:56 awesome and that's just the tip of the iceberg so they actually partnered with
51:00 Burger King and this this I love yeah oh
51:04 God so you can order your food ahead of
51:07 time so so this doesn't have to be like 14 days after the fact this could be
51:11 like 20 minutes be like yo dog I'm going stop by the Burger King have my order
51:15 ready and the payment drops out of your account like it's it's like
51:19 pre-authorized and prepaid and you just go pick up your food fast food just got
51:24 faster America
51:28 America I'm in North America so I consider myself part of America when I
51:33 make fun of probably won't come to us no probably not just like we're not getting
51:38 Apple pay or Google wallet or this or
51:41 anything cool yeah I kind of like I felt like
51:45 really sucky cuz uh we're doing a fast as possible over on the Techquickie
51:49 Channel about Apple pay because I think there's a lot of confusion out there
51:52 about it and so I just like I kind of run through the basics and then at the
51:56 end I was just kind of tempted to say like like get a little Canadian flag or
52:00 something be like but none of this matters to me cuz apple is like there
52:04 it's only speculation right now Apple won't comment on it but the speculation
52:08 is that it's like a year plus out for sure oh my goodness even though the
52:12 technology it's like the actual the phone and this is not an Apple phone but
52:17 I hope you guys get my point the NFC chip is not revolutionary no no at all
52:24 and and and that's where a lot of the confusion about Apple pay versus Google
52:28 Wallet comes from where people kind of go oh well why is Apple getting so much
52:32 attention and support for this it's the same thing as Google Wallet it's not on
52:36 the back end it is not the same thing so
52:39 Apple needs to build those relationships with the financial institutions which
52:43 are very different in Canada from from the US in order to actually enable it
52:47 and provide the service here so yeah so there you
52:51 go I'm excited about this PayPal thing 5
52:54 years from now five yeah whatever is speaking of 5 years from now originally
52:58 posted by Tech dreamer uh by the way Tech dreamer was also the one for the
53:03 the PayPal one and it was top war gamer for the HP stream one we've got so much
53:07 amazing news this week go go go with this one okay so
53:11 Oculus news although um not also not
53:14 hugely Oculus news at the same time A lot of people are freaking out about
53:17 this because he's like it's months away not years although the speculation that
53:20 could still mean 11 months or 15 months yeah the speculation for a long time has
53:25 been late 2015 so this isn't
53:28 actually like I was like yeah because this is more of a confirmation okay
53:33 which is great cuz I'm not super into rumors so this is actually coming
53:38 from him which is awesome because now we
53:41 know it's coming then but I think when the CEO says it's months away I think
53:46 the implication is not 11.9 months no I
53:50 think the implication is cuz when you say months well he says he says many
53:54 months I think yeah it's months not years away but many months so he he does
53:59 mean quite a few I still think it'll be like Q3 probably Q4 2015 um but yeah I'm
54:05 I'm super stoked if you haven't seen the new prototype that they've released it
54:09 looks a lot wider it looks like they've probably messed with the aspect ratio a
54:12 little bit which could be really cool um
54:16 they're still talking about how keyboard and keyboards mice gamepads are all not
54:21 really up to the job and neither is like super basic gesture control he says
54:26 urging larger companies not to rush their products out and to try and just
54:30 make the best solution they can and then release it because they don't want to
54:34 like work the waters with crappy products essentially they they don't
54:39 want to spoil the awesomeness that is VR right now it has killed Technologies in
54:44 the past it's killed VR in the past yep
54:47 it has uh more than once actually so I
54:51 think they're trying to make sure that other companies don't ruin it for all
54:56 all of the companies that are trying to do it properly not just Oculus but all
55:00 the companies that are trying to take their time and properly release these
55:03 products because they are extremely new and people are going to potentially get
55:07 extremely motion sick we all saw Lou when we were trying out the roller
55:11 coaster stuff when he tried the last one he was like no I'm done almost
55:14 immediately he couldn't handle it just and it's going to hit people randomly
55:18 certain people will feel it a lot more than others and it's not going to be like I'm a big tough dude so I don't get
55:23 motion sickness like that's not really how it's going to work and and it'll be
55:26 different things that hit different people like I was able to handle the
55:29 rides but in Kiri Forest when I fell off
55:34 of a cliff the the the the the way that
55:37 the camera was controlled by my fingers but also by my my head was just it felt
55:44 like someone took my stomach and rung it out like a dishcloth all of a sudden and
55:48 it took a while of like oh wow I better not touch that thumb stick to have it
55:53 settle down again so it's it's it's real it's a real thing it's real like you
55:57 just definitely said it totally affects people differently um some people can
56:02 like be standing up facing backwards during a roller coaster ride and not
56:06 care and then go through something like you did and be like holy crap that's not
56:10 okay um so yeah we need to be careful
56:13 but it's coming soon which is really cool I've been playing a little bit of X-Wing lately cuz I was just like you
56:18 had your stream holy crap oh oh oh terrible story my Top Gun joystick oh no
56:25 last night oh no I was like I was like I
56:29 was kind of too excited and I had my son on my lap so like I was kind of awkward
56:33 and I was like I was going around I was dog fighting with a TIE fighter and I
56:37 was like PE snap oh my trigger button snapped inside
56:43 the housing it it's it's a clean break it sounds like it might be repairable
56:47 it's a clean break and I think that the solution is going to be one of two
56:51 things or both so maybe as a temporary fix um what I can do is cuz superglue
56:55 never works for something like that but what you can do what I've actually had a
56:59 lot of success with is needle and heat it up with a blow torch red hot you
57:04 position it in the right place you GL it and then you actually stab through the
57:08 brake from different angles and then you kind of melt around the outside and
57:13 smooth it yeah I have found that that is held up almost as well as the original
57:17 strength kind welding yeah so like kind of like plastic plastic welding so I'm
57:23 going to try that and then if that doesn't work then I'll someone in twitches be like oh my God that's not
57:27 welding at all but like we know so then I'll I'll figure out a way to 3D print
57:31 one yeah and then that'll make my Top Gun joystick even cooler cuz I can get
57:34 like a bright orange or like bright pink
57:38 uh trigger on it so sick I was so sad
57:41 cuz I was like I thought you were going to telling me that story I thought you were going to like Snap It Off the base
57:45 or something I was like oh my God no but I was upset because I was playing with
57:49 my son and he was enjoying blowing up the bad guys he's he's he hasn't this is
57:54 only the second time he's actually a g beinged like I don't do the whole
58:00 lots of screen time with them thing I don't believe it I think little kids
58:03 should spend most of their time in reality um but uh but he was really he
58:08 was really enjoying it and so we had I never game with speakers anymore because
58:13 usually he's sleeping so we had the speakers on so he could actually hear
58:16 the voice chatter over the radio and like yeah and he loves the Star Wars
58:23 movies He's only seen them once again not a ton of screen time with him but he
58:27 had a Darth Vader plush from when he was very little and I have the most adorable
58:32 videos um cuz we used to play this game with him when he was really quite young
58:36 where I would lift him up and I would say um say good night monkey and he had
58:41 like a vinyl monkey sticker on his wall and say say good night giraffe and
58:45 there's like a giraffe sticker and he would like say and so he'd be all happy
58:48 and he'd be like yeah yeah and so you know say good night good night and then
58:53 um I'd say say good night Darth Vader and he would worm and try to get away
58:57 from him cuz he had like a voice thing
59:00 like yeah yeah and so I played it a couple times and and it's amazing how
59:06 the the the psychological fear that goes into
59:10 something like a costume design goes so
59:13 much deeper than that character did bad
59:17 things and is therefore scary that mask
59:20 is frightening even without the voice and even without the the actions of
59:25 you're going the planet Alder on and forcing Leia to watch like even without
59:29 that it's terrifying so he didn't like Darth Vader for a long time and I would
59:33 do it to him all the time cuz I thought it was hilarious so every night before
59:36 bed it'd be like say good night monkey say good night Darth Vader no no no
59:41 Darth Vader no Darth Vader
59:44 and and um I forget where I was going with this right so so he he really liked
59:50 the the Star Wars of it as well so that's uh I this became a long rambly St
59:57 I liked it I thought that was cool Intel we're finally getting some details and
60:02 this was posted by Tech Fanboy about the upcoming LGA
60:05 1151 and z70 z170 chipset really 1 170 it's like
60:12 this is what Intel does when they run out of numbers like okay and LGA 1151 they're
60:19 going to run out of numbers between 1,150 and
60:24 1,159 I was pretty tired when I read this and I I saw 1151 and all I could
60:30 think of was like they should have had this giant ridiculous press conference
60:34 and then just been like slowly put the letters on screen like l g a and then 11
60:41 like and have it like fairly rhythmically and 1150 and then like a
60:45 huge delay one and then like fireworks like
60:49 crazy pic dubstep pyrotechnics like oh my God
60:54 it's a one that's all I can think of so now we
60:58 should have been done now there's officially no pattern Intel is officially as good at naming things as
61:03 Microsoft cuz we've got 1156 1155 1150
61:07 and 1151 so we were going backwards and then a lot backwards and then a little
61:10 bit forward ridiculous so I I to be clear
61:15 guys that's not because it's the number of the socket it's the number of pins in
61:18 the socket so get it but uh it's going
61:21 to support both ddr4 and DDR3 memory
61:26 which is pretty cool but not at the same time you'll have to choose and I mean
61:31 guys basically it's going to come down to this is like a stepping stone one
61:35 just like how the 9 I want to say 925 chipset
61:41 supported both ddr1 and ddr2 that's what
61:44 we're looking at again there's not going to be a big performance difference between them it's going to be buy
61:48 whatever's cheaper at the time that you're buying whatever it is you're buying uh the new chipset supports
61:53 single by 16 dual by 8X or a single 8ex
61:58 and two 4X PCI Express 3.0 slots I
62:01 really hope that NVIDIA at some point revises their SLI guidelines so that we
62:05 can have triple SLI on 84 and four but I
62:09 also kind of understand why especially if what I suspect they're doing is doing
62:13 more communication over the P express bus is actually happening yeah um
62:17 supports two memory Channels with two modules each um 6 SATA 3 6 GB per second
62:22 ports and 20 lanes for PCIe total we support maximum of three SATA Express X2
62:28 ports and either 4 m.2 or two SATA
62:31 Express actually not 100% sure if those are completely transcribed correctly but
62:36 uh the original article is from kit guru.net so you guys can check it out over there and the boards will support
62:41 up to 14 USB ports 10 of which can be Intel USB 3.0 ports but as of now USB
62:46 3.1 is
62:49 unsupported so that's the new 10 gabit per second
62:54 USB I would yeah not super interested
62:57 but it's in USB 3.1 no in in because it
63:01 largely because it doesn't have that yeah that and these are going to be for
63:05 Broadwell processors which are that we have another article I'm going to scroll
63:09 down to it but upcoming Broadwell is rumored to be 3% faster than Haswell
63:13 clock for clock so unless Intel has found a way to squeeze higher clock
63:17 speeds out of their chips for the first time in a lot of generations uh we're
63:21 not going to see like a massive Paradigm shifting performance Improvement
63:27 so don't uh don't throw away your LGA
63:31 1150 PC just yet yeah yeah not so much
63:36 um donate was cancelled and I don't know how many people cared but you can get
63:39 your money back so if you bought into donate go get your money back well I think that's cool I think the fact that
63:44 they're just you think it's cool that they canceled it I think it's cool that they're giving everyone's money back and
63:48 I think it's cool that they had the balls to cancel something instead of just bringing it to Market getting a
63:52 bunch of people to buy it and then abandoning it I think that this is and
63:56 they're letting it one thing that's also cool if we're going to jump on the so this is EA to be clear so Don Gate was
64:01 an EA sort of League of Legends style MOA uh is that they're letting it
64:06 continue operate for 90 days yep so people that did like it can kind of wean
64:10 themselves off which is actually kind of cool so it's been in beta for 18 months
64:14 and basically what they had to say was well we built a game that wasn't just a
64:18 clone of existing mobas but that tried to push the push things forward and it
64:22 didn't work so so it's the Project's off
64:25 it's done uh everyone gets a refund and we're
64:28 we're not going to try and turn this into something that it's not and I say
64:32 good job EA yeah there's no actual negative news here yeah like how is how
64:37 is unless you really liked Don Gate yeah
64:40 and like well okay there's going to be people that really like to donate every
64:43 single time that a game gets closed there's people that get screwed over and
64:46 that really sucks but at least they don't get screwed out of any money yes
64:50 they don't get SC out of any money and they don't get this like abandoned
64:54 abandoned empty experience which the game probably would have turned into and
64:58 then just been depressed and had bad memories now they're like I liked that
65:03 game and it sucks that it didn't become a thing y that was fun that was cool I
65:06 mean I think the only thing EA could do to make this even cooler and for them to
65:11 be like wow good guy EA and we would actually okay we would have we they gave
65:16 them like some credit or something no what I would want them to do actually
65:20 that would be okay that would gave them a game some credit in the origin store
65:24 here's five bucks off a new game go enjoy something else hey we're sorry
65:27 about this that would be super cool another super cool thing would be if
65:31 they turned the game over to someone
65:35 else turn the game over to the community and went look okay that would be awesome
65:38 we're not going to support it anymore but you know what if you guys really
65:42 want to run with this then go with like the the Netscape thing where they're
65:46 like we're kind of closing off but you can have it and then Firefox jumps on the train and carries it forward or or
65:51 whatever it is whatever that would actually be super awesome yeah I don't
65:55 think they will but that would be super awesome cuz I think that for for like a
65:59 even for the open source Community to try to develop a game from square one is
66:03 a bit of an ambitious project and if they could take this even just as a framework and nuke a lot of it and
66:08 recreate things that would be a lot easier yeah that would be that would be
66:11 a very very very cool thing in this world of
66:15 microtransaction actually massive companies that have this image of like
66:19 you know good guy Riot but these are like big companies with a lot of money
66:23 that like it's funny because people kind
66:26 of go oh like apple like big company
66:30 therefore like bad or whatever but these gaming companies are also like big super
66:35 money driven companies so don't kid yourself I mean I would think I think it
66:38 would be really cool for for just a community-driven project to come in and
66:42 challenge something like that I I really don't think it'll happen but it would be awesome then a bunch of money would get
66:46 involved and some people would rise to the top and they'd make a bunch of money it would turn into the same thing all
66:49 over again I mean it's just one of those things money is what it is I feel like right now Ubisoft and EA are really
66:53 close to each other and Ubisoft is like digging really ferociously and throwing
66:58 the dirt over into EA's hole and filling it
67:03 up the word hole can never Escape an awkward I didn't even mean that but like
67:08 EA is not doing horrible things really I know it's amazing it's like they care
67:13 like they had that big patch for Battlefield 4 they they gave away some
67:17 free stuff to people using Sims they aren't pulling pulling their games out
67:22 of uh out of steam in the UK with the rumor being that going to pull their
67:25 games out of steam entirely their Christmas launch games did they already
67:30 I'm like I'm I'm pretty sure this is like a it's it's out of steam or at
67:33 least it's out of steam in UK and I believe us um I I think the outrage for
67:39 this should have been at the fact that if you bought one of their games on
67:44 Steam already it was just giving it to you in you play and it just launched you
67:49 playay I think that's where the rage should have been cuz this honestly
67:52 doesn't really change anything yeah you're right you're going from not being
67:57 able to buy it in Steam I mean you're going from being able to buy it in Steam
68:01 but realistically just having the game on your Uplay account and having to run
68:05 Uplay and having to launch the game out of up playay and dealing with all the crap that that has to just not being
68:10 able to buy it on Steam and having the entire rest of the experience be exactly
68:15 the same so I think the rage should have already happened and it should have been
68:19 from the forcible use of up play and
68:23 this should have just been piled onto top of that because that was super
68:27 annoying um because the conversation that we had double DRM is lame and bad
68:32 it is really lame it's like games for Windows Live that that whole stupid
68:35 thing with remember Batman Arkham Asylum
68:39 how unless you like how you could get stuck and it never got patched to my
68:44 knowledge until they finally just got rid of games for Windows Live entirely
68:48 but there you could get stuck in a loop where you would sign into games for
68:51 Windows Live and it would reboot the game and unless you did something it
68:56 would make you sign in again and reboot the game again and you could do it over and over and over again never sign I got
69:00 that game for my brother for Christmas and he never ended up playing it not
69:04 because he didn't want to play it but because he couldn't did he run into that
69:08 problem yeah like it's just I forget what the solution was I haven't touched
69:12 the game in a long time it's just it was so much work and eventually he's just
69:15 like whatever I don't have that much time to sit down and play games cuz he
69:19 worked a lot at the time well he still does um so he's like I just I'll just
69:23 play something else and so there were rumors floating around that Zalman filed
69:28 for bankruptcy however uh they have they
69:32 have sort of spoken up now and there it's going to be some kind of an
69:35 official statement at some point here but what they're saying is well hold on a second no our business is fine um it's
69:41 the parent company uh Manel i' I used to
69:44 know how to pronounce this because uh NCI brought in a bunch of cases from
69:48 them like four years ago or something like that and it was like a super
69:52 amazing deal or something anyway um so
69:56 it's actually their parent company that
69:59 allegedly is is is suspected of taking
70:02 loans that it could not repay and then fabricating export documents to inflate
70:07 its perceived value and get approval on large loans apparently they're in debt
70:10 2.98 billion us or something like that um an unnamed employee reports that the
70:15 management team uh was behind the
70:18 fabrication and uh so yeah apparently zelman may still come out of this okay
70:23 remember just because the parent company is out of money and like bad people
70:27 doesn't mean that zman couldn't be acquired by someone else and then
70:30 continue doing business the way that they're doing it so if you're a Zalman fan just kind of relax for a little bit
70:36 and let's see what comes of all this very very possibly still be totally fine
70:41 all right I really wish I could screen share for this next one Amazon Echo the
70:45 like least useful thing that I've talked
70:48 about today my my comment was that it's for
70:53 people that what is that my comment is
70:56 that it's for people that don't have like an old phone that they can put on a
70:59 speaker dock um and leave there forever and your comment
71:04 was oh my comment was that it's for people who don't have a phone guess at
71:08 all so basically it's it it's like it's Google
71:14 Now or Siri except it's a device that sits on your desk and plugs into the
71:19 wall instead of just being in your pocket all the time move it
71:22 around like it's not even battery powered that's that's why I was thinking
71:26 like if you had an old phone and a speaker dock you just create this thing
71:30 so the speaker dock is because the built-in speakers on phone are probably
71:33 crap and this is probably better than it if you had a speaker dock you could
71:36 easily get speakers that are way better than this thing okay and then just use
71:40 Google so let's go through what it does it's a 200 bucks or 100 bucks if you're
71:43 on Prime for a limited time and it's a speaker so you talk to it and you say
71:48 what what's the keyword like syx or something like that or I thought it was
71:52 like some chick Alexa okay so you say Alexa to address EA Alexa they're close
71:59 um so information music news weather and more instantly or at least as long as it
72:04 takes for you to say Alexa can you
72:08 please play some One Direction for me because that's not faster than just
72:11 being like blah blah blah on your phone um
72:16 it's controlled by your voice for hands-free convenience okay voice
72:20 recognition hears you from across the room so far we've got three bullet points that are all the same thing as
72:24 far as I can tell and then it's connected to the cloud so it's always
72:28 getting smarter now I do have to say this I funded I don't know if you
72:32 remember this that stupid robot thing that I funded on
72:35 Kickstarter um I funded that just
72:38 because I wanted to get it and it was going to be like a PSA about how Bloody
72:42 stupid crowdfunding is by the time I ever get it that whole message will be
72:46 dead and gone just like crowdfunding oh oh wrecked it'll be like
72:51 a retro unboxing an unboxing of why crowdfunding failed
72:56 um if they ever even deliver it like mini documentary on why crowdfunding so
73:01 the reason I think that one's going to fail is because it's supposed to do all
73:04 this stuff interactively with you and they're such a small company they just
73:08 don't have the resources to do it properly Amazon might so the fact that
73:11 it's going to continue to learn as time goes on might be somewhat useful but I
73:16 just don't see it being any more useful than something like Google Now or Siri
73:21 which are already going to be connected much much more tightly with the rest of
73:26 your Digital Life and the rest of your smart home and smart car stuff um the
73:32 way that your phone will so it's got Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity so it
73:36 could be in theory connected very well but probably won't be because this is
73:40 probably some weird project that's just going to go away I'll I'll be floored if
73:44 we ever see an echo to um and it's got seven mics well it depends if they still
73:48 have fire phones left oh yeah yeah the the joke the joke
73:52 going around on the web is that's what doing with all the fir phone
73:57 Hardware which I find hilarious yeah cuz
74:00 it might be accurate so it's got seven beamforming microphones with great noise
74:05 cancellation so even if it's playing music it can still hear you from across
74:08 the room which I guess is neat except that my phone doesn't have to hear me
74:11 from across the room because I'm already holding it and my SmartWatch I can also
74:15 talk to although I'm not actually a huge fan of the Moto 360 so far but again
74:20 I've only spent a day with it so lots of time for that to change
74:25 um Advanced Audio design it has a massive 2.5 in
74:34 subwoofer I'm like I'm a huge proponent for voice control stuff not that
74:39 interested like I I I've been toying with this idea for a while where if I
74:44 like set up a server that had Dragon speaking on it um I could have this is
74:50 this is going to take me a sec but this is something I've been playing with for a while it's right now it's just too
74:54 expensive to properly do and it's hold hold on can I jump in before you do it
74:58 then WTO WTO will the echo 2 be called
75:02 the echo echo
75:05 hopefully um and the echo 3 will be the echo ech echo um sorry go ahead I want
75:11 to set up an array of little microphones like all around my place and then have a
75:17 like little Central server that has something like Dragon Speaking hooked up to it so that I can just it can pick up
75:22 whatever and just look for keywords and then if I say like uh play
75:29 music uh some band One Direction one
75:33 it's I don't have any of that but sure sure you
75:36 um anyways it it would be able to pick that up and then actually just do that
75:42 and I could have like a library of keywords that I set up and program and
75:46 tell them what to do that could actually be really cool the reason why I would
75:50 like that setup is I could be anywhere and like this thing I don't
75:55 care about their stupid sever microphones you're not going to be able to be anywhere in your house and have it
75:59 work you'd have to be like within that room maybe you don't have to be as close
76:03 to get your phone to work although to be completely honest if I just talk loud
76:07 enough my phone can usually pick up if I
76:10 uh call for it that's how I find it sometimes this is one of those products
76:14 that I just don't get because like this
76:17 the cynic in me if it was a company that's smaller than Amazon I would kind
76:21 of go okay they're trying to fund the next wave by selling a bunch of these
76:26 things that ultimately they have to know are going to be useless because
76:29 ultimately as so let's let's look at the 5year the 10-year Outlook you know when
76:34 you've got your nest thermostat and you've got your self-locking what is it
76:38 Genie door I forget what that that smart door lock is and you got all this crap
76:42 and your house starts to get way more smart and way more connected with
76:45 Internet of Things stuff just kind of naturally over time because it happens
76:50 no matter what you want because ultimately you're going to you're going to go to Best Buy one day to buy
76:55 dishwasher and every it's going to be $20 more for the smart connected model
76:59 and you might as well just get it so it just happens over time and so this
77:04 device will never be useful for that because as as the idea gets bigger and
77:09 the functionality gets bigger the idea of something that sits on your desk is
77:13 going to look even more stupid as everyday passes so I would look at it
77:17 and I would go okay they're just trying to get some money to fund the actual
77:20 product but what's Amazon's excuse
77:24 because they could to just keep developing this and keep
77:28 keep working on it until something's actually
77:31 ready doesn't seem to be doing super well with the hardware stuff Kindle's
77:36 great okay I take that back maybe their their Kindle hubris LED them to believe
77:41 that people wanted something other than a way to read books from them yeah like
77:45 your phone sucks and this Echo thing is stupid and you should feel
77:50 bad oh I've got someone saying um lonus
77:54 I work in H fact trust me when I say that Nest thermostats are a p um I
77:59 believe you actually Nest was one of those companies that I kind of went
78:04 really you got acquired by Google for a billion dollars are you freaking kidding
78:08 me they've had what like three recalls in their history maybe it's only two but
78:14 they were like a big deal like I think their their smoke detector uh was
78:18 recalled because of something that's not good you don't want your smoke detector
78:22 to be terrible like awful like the
78:26 amount of crap that Nest has gotten away with just by being like a like a Silicon
78:31 Valley connected Web 2.0 company is just
78:35 mind-boggling to me and the idea that you need a smart thermostat is still
78:40 just kind of baffling to me I have a smart thermostat it's called I program
78:45 it to maintain the temperature in my house at a certain threshold and if I'm
78:50 leaving the house for like the weekend I turn it off
78:55 and then it comes back on automatically because you have a schedule for
79:00 it like not a big deal and I I I get
79:05 that some people might save a lot of power if they keep their house at 28
79:08 degrees C or whatever else it's like yeah we have the sauna house so we only
79:12 want to heat it when we're actually you know running around naked or no not
79:17 running around naked lounging naked because if we were running we'd be
79:20 generating
79:23 enough maybe one of these days I'll try a nest um and then I'll I'll tell you
79:28 guys holy crap I was wrong it's revolutionary but for now it feels like
79:32 one of those things I don't really need it also doesn't help that my house only
79:35 has two wires running to my thermostat so I'm not even Nest compatible unless I
79:39 wanted to run wires through my wall which would involve like fun which is
79:44 not happening let's not do that all right uh what else we got here that's I
79:49 think most of the like really big topics this week isn't isn't it yeah we have
79:53 some rapid FY stuff we have manave we because we don't have
79:57 screening um fut acquired by UL that's a big deal
80:03 actually so UL are the guys that have like a little
80:07 logo not this one you'll find it on a lot of different the charger for this
80:11 will definitely have a ECT stuff yeah so basically they they do certification and
80:16 testing really important stuff that they do really really good so that you know
80:20 your iPhone charger doesn't light on fire that's the kind of stuff they do
80:24 and that's why buying Cheapo stuff that's not certified by UL can be a
80:29 little bit risky because they they do a great job and they acquired future Mark
80:34 the makers of PC Mark and 3D Mark with the intention of branching into uh well
80:40 basically just just I guess adding another another testing Benchmark
80:45 essentially it's just it's a software Benchmark yeah so future Mark has been
80:49 developing all kinds of stuff in the old days it was just 3D Mark you tested
80:52 graphics cards and that was it and then they were like oh well you know maybe 3D
80:56 Mark can you know also test like physics
80:59 on your graphics card well hold on a second maybe we'll make PC Mark and it'll test your whole PC and then
81:03 they've got mobile phone stuff and like all this crazy stuff like that's great
81:07 having a big company like UL behind future Mark turning it into something
81:12 that really could be more than just this like weird like it industry standard
81:18 like if you could go to Best Buy and the PCS would be sorted by Future Mark score
81:23 or something like that that's so much more meaningful it's not perfect at all
81:27 but it's so much more meaningful than megahertz that I see it as a huge step
81:31 in the right direction I think it's awesome should we wreck uh Ubisoft for a
81:36 little bit sure yeah I'll let you do it wait can I do the gold Apple watch first
81:41 yes okay so the gold Apple watch estimated to cost $5,000 this is a rumor
81:46 this was posted by pit 5000 on the Forum and it is rumored that it will debut on
81:50 February 14th Valentine's Day probably not an accident 5000 rose gold oh
81:57 snap oh snap get
82:02 it roses Oh I thought you meant Rose
82:05 because the price went up a lot from what people thought it would be
82:08 oh snap we're awful we are um so rumored
82:13 to be $5,000 for Gold Edition it's unclear whether they're solid or plated
82:17 but let me tell you guys it's Apple it's plated um and $500 for the steel version
82:23 with the sport vers version which was rumored to be sort of like just the just
82:29 the tip of the iceberg in terms of pricing that they unveiled being the
82:33 lowest cost version uh it's rumored to
82:36 be 18 karat gold with sapphire crystal glass and come with a variety of
82:40 luxurious strap options it's unclear oh
82:43 okay since I just said that um so to all the people kind of running around going
82:47 apple is overpriced and that's totally unreasonable shut
82:51 up watches are overpriced
82:55 and
82:58 watch it not the here they are just expanding
83:05 into a market that is already charging way too much if you look at it from a
83:09 bill of materials cost perspective so
83:14 nothing new Move Along $5,000 for a
83:18 high-end watch is like nothing to see
83:21 here guys me personally I it's ridiculous oh yeah I'd never buy one
83:26 there's lots of people that do never buy one but is relative lots of people do in
83:31 fact even like otherwise like normal people who have real jobs might own a
83:36 Rolex because they that particular status symbol of a watch is very very
83:41 important to them the one thing that I have to say about this is Apple do this
83:47 right even if the hardware changes on a
83:51 very rapid basis you cannot treat a
83:54 $5,000 watch the same way that you do
83:57 something relatively disposable like even at $1,000 a smartphone because if
84:03 they roll out a new iteration that is dramatically better than the old one
84:07 every year at $5,000 even people with $5,000 to spend
84:11 on a watch are going to get pissed so there it's true Tim Cook I
84:17 hope you're listening no one thing that the deal you
84:22 did with your glasses so that you got glasses what was that deal like you had
84:25 to have a certain paent not lose them or something oh with my uh with my my
84:30 Oakleys yeah yeah so I'm I'm I'm a bit of a cheap skate I'm also a bit of a
84:34 scatterbrain so the deal that my wife actually made with me was you can get
84:38 nice sunglasses like the kind with polarized lenses and like shatter
84:43 resistant lenses that look good and feel good and are like a couple hundred bucks
84:48 if you get some like Cheapo Foster Grants at the drugstore and can manage
84:53 to not lose those for a few months and so I did and it was actually an
84:57 excellent exercise and being very conscious of having a goal to work
85:01 towards to not lose it um and then I did end up earning my awesome sunglasses
85:05 that I have now never lost even though I used to lose glasses all the time I will
85:09 not have a super nice watch um because
85:12 and maybe I'll redo this at some time but when I was younger I went to the
85:15 store and bought a fairly cheap one and lost it within like a week and then was
85:19 like I will never have a super nice watch I've done that with jewelry as
85:22 well and I'm just like I can't just keep things on my hands because I it'll it'll
85:26 be annoying I'll be doing something like I'll have to pull something or do whatever and and it will never come back
85:32 and I know that so I will just not have one that's fine well I'll tell you what
85:36 we'll get you like a like a baby's first Smartwatch we'll get you a trainer
85:41 watch before uh before you drop your five grand on those little tracking ones
85:46 that the kids get from yeah no no it shouldn't tell the time it's it's the
85:49 kind with the little balls in it that you like hold
85:54 I'll be like look you can game on your on your mobile no one else can game on
85:58 their watch I'm like the only person that's fantastic I have the highest end
86:02 watch actually um anyways okay want to hate on Ubisoft for a bit hold on I have
86:07 an actual lower third for this you know what I'll go find it while you work on
86:11 this yeah yeah yeah it's fine so we can't show you which totally sucks this
86:15 topic is posted by uh the future Mark topic was to posted by Duck do Dodgers
86:21 okay for and then this this one which is
86:25 about screenshots from Assassin's Creed ps4 version of unity blah blah blah blah
86:30 blah is from to stranger um by the way
86:33 one of the reasons why we might have had a little bit of a lower user count was
86:36 also because there's not only BlizzCon running right now but also there was an
86:40 Ubisoft stream showing off as Assassin's Creed running right now oh um I'm amazed
86:44 we even have 5200 viewers thank you yay
86:47 thanks for showing up I really appreciate it I'm not super surprised
86:52 that you're not watching the Assassin's Creed one um but the BlizzCon one is
86:55 pretty interesting uh reasons why I'm not super surprised you're not watching
86:58 the Assassin's Creed one is I tuned in for a little bit and was like wow this
87:02 game looks super old what um and it's
87:06 not 1080p on PlayStation 4 usually from
87:09 the two consoles we see PlayStation 4 able to step up to the plate and show
87:13 off 1080p but it is not happening the pixel count confirms a native resolution
87:18 of 1,600 by 900 which is not like oh it
87:22 has a white background dang it way to go Burl okay well anyway that's
87:27 what our lower third we should probably take that caterpillar logo over I was just going to say brought to you by
87:31 caterpillar CU digging I know but yeah but we should we should pull that out
87:35 but that's going to be our keep on digging lower third and we're going to have a shirt coming soon I was going to
87:40 say cuz it's not actually brought to yeah no it's not caterpillar had nothing
87:43 to do with they might get mad about that yeah so leave caterpillar out of it but
87:47 anyway Ubisoft go ahead yeah yeah so we can't really show you screenshot right
87:51 now cuz his thing isn't working but it doesn't look good and like I watch their
87:54 stream and it doesn't look good like the new Cod looks better than it and I
87:58 should never be able to say that yeah that's that's pretty harsh Burn yeah no
88:03 but the the new Cod is like new Cod looks okay facial animations look good
88:07 the especially in cinematics the new cinematics and cod if you can actually
88:11 get the the voice track to line up with the video damn it um is actually pretty
88:16 impressive and the in-game textures on like water bottles when you Mo up to
88:19 them and stuff it's like wow that's not horrible cuz you expect from Call of
88:24 Duty that it's going to be super bad um and from the stream so far and from some
88:29 of the images that we've seen about Assassin's Creed it looks kind of bad
88:35 like it I don't know we're we're going to have to wait see until we have the PC
88:40 version mind you what I will say is that seeing it at the NVIDIA gtx980 event
88:46 that was where I first saw Assassin's Creed Unity footage was not blown away
88:51 no so I don't know
88:54 kind of not super sure about that
88:58 um yeah kind of not stoked it doesn't look great and like something that was
89:04 brought up last week which was where one of the developers at Ubisoft was saying
89:09 like oh yeah people play these games that are like pixel Platformers and
89:13 they're okay with it but then they want 1080p all the time and stuff and it's
89:16 like yeah it's an art style this is why Nintendo gets away with it is they they
89:19 pick a cartoony art why blizzard gets away with it exactly this is why Team
89:23 Fortress two gets away with it it looks really good because it's a style that is
89:28 not super hard to run you picked a very
89:31 realistic art style that was your choice and it has looked good in the past but
89:35 it doesn't look good right now and that's on you yeah that sucks and and
89:40 it's about expectation management if you're like yeah we're like the next
89:43 genest gen that ever had 30% more gen than the Gen before and and we've got
89:48 like 10 billion different Technologies from NVIDIA and all this kind of stuff
89:52 then that's what we expect to see whereas if I'm playing retro games and
89:55 I'm like playing X-Wing and I'm going to I I have to fix my joystick tonight now
89:59 that I've been talking about it anyway if I'm playing retro games well that's
90:02 my expectation I'm not expecting it to look amazing yeah um speaking of things
90:07 that look amazing I found your Smartwatch oh yes this has to be it so
90:12 add uh screen region here yeah baby that
90:17 right there well that's the back of it this was a suggestion from um one of the
90:20 folks on uh there we go oh yeah oh
90:26 that's beautiful pink Snoopy pink Snoopy
90:29 for for three $381 C United States it's
90:33 7% off 7% off free shipping to Canada
90:36 and it's $38 that's ridiculous I know right what is isn't that amazing deal
90:40 extreme deal xtram is amazing it's the best place to get like obscure batteries
90:45 and stuff yeah that's cool and then one that I didn't actually think was that
90:49 big of a deal but it kind of funny is that Ubisoft is partnered with
90:54 uh let me see here who it is because it's not actually in the title I think
90:58 it's Gillette says Edge is that company or is
91:02 that yeah Edge Edge is the company yeah
91:05 I think so is it I don't even know or it's like a model or something we're
91:09 kind of Dollar Shave Club guys yeah some
91:12 other shaving product I think they're called a edge I don't know it's shaving
91:17 cream anyways you get a sword some armor
91:21 and an Assassin's Hood yeah so okay hold
91:25 on I will let you talk about this okay
91:28 hold on for a minute does the style of
91:31 the hood make it an Assassin's hood or does the person wearing it make it an
91:36 Assassin's Hood so you could have like a bonnet and it could be an Assassin's
91:40 Hood if it's being worn by an assassin
91:43 right I think so yeah whoa it should be a
91:51 bonnet anyways I don't think it's that big of a deal
91:55 it's just kind of funny this has happened in the past so if we didn't
91:59 bring it up for other companies we can't really like hammer on them too hard but
92:03 like if there's no other way to get these items that's kind of poopy it is
92:06 nice that they're probably just cosmetic so it probably doesn't change anything
92:10 so I don't really care about that too much um and some people have been like
92:14 oh my God why would they partner with shaving cream that has nothing to do with gaming and I'm like yeah well your
92:18 audience is whatever insanely high percentage male so shaving cream makes
92:24 sense are you generalizing about Gamers yeah actually
92:29 statistics Get Wrecked um so anyway on that note I
92:35 forget what I was going to talk about but I think that's pretty much it for the show today I I enjoyed uh I enjoyed
92:41 the show I hope you guys enjoyed it too I'm and the part of the generalizing
92:45 about males thing is that the yes please go on they don't have any main
92:49 characters that are female and that's actually maybe that's been brought up as
92:53 a problem and maybe so maybe it's ubisoft's fault
92:56 what they could have done is if they had at least one out of the four main
93:00 characters as a female they could have had like you get different items for the
93:05 different assassins cuz there's the four Assassins right so they could have had
93:08 four different shaving cream bottles and you get like and like Yoko Ono that's
93:13 like not Yoko because bad singing Talent
93:17 is not something that is required as an assassin no but she could be like bad at
93:21 fighting so she could have like the Four Musketeers like Yoko Yoko that that
93:26 would be what the female Gamers want to see that would be gender equality I
93:30 really don't think yeah I really think that would go over very poorly no okay
93:34 that's not how it should go that would make everything worse because it's
93:39 terrible like not not because like it
93:42 was had well intentions it's just it would make everything worse because it's
93:46 dumb and bad that'd be all the digging
93:50 yeah that would be a terrible idea but yeah I think it would make sense say if
93:54 they had two male assassins two female assassins if they had two like Edge
93:57 whatever male version and maybe if Edge has a female products I don't know I
94:02 don't know what Edge everyone's just talking about Yoko Ono in the chat now I
94:06 still don't understand how JN didn't tell Ono not to shave their feminists oh
94:11 no sorry that was two different comments it moved didn't tell Ono to stop her
94:15 yelling sorry sometimes the chat moves as you're reading and it sorry um I
94:20 think we're done here guys thank you for watching and we'll see you again next week
94:49 bye totally not whatever that company that I already forgot about was
94:54 linda.com learning
