0:42 with a decibel being on10th of a bell so
0:46 if one value is 10 DB higher than another it is an order of magnitude
0:50 greater whereas a 20 dcel difference would be two orders of magnitude greater

2:19 amplitude ratio let's say to express relative voltage or a field quantity
2:23 like sound pressure level we need to square the amplitude which means that a
2:27 difference of 6 DB will equate to double
2:30 the voltage or double the sound pressure level if you measure it but that doesn't
2:35 mean to your ears a vacuum cleaner rated at 6 DB lower than another will actually
2:40 sound half as loud as the next leading brand or whatever your ears don't hear
2:45 increases in sound pressure in a linear fashion in fact depending on the
2:50 frequency of the noise the general rule of thumb is that it takes somewhere
2:54 between a 6 to 10 D increase in sound
2:57 pressure to achieve a perceived double

3:25 need to compare values that can differ by many orders of magnitude instead of

3:33 times louder than your weak human hearing threshold we just say it's 100

3:52 context for interpreting the otherwise truthfully pretty confusing numbers
