0:00 Razer did not even wait for their Blade
0:03 Pro to be available to customers to take aim at Apple's use of the pro moniker on
0:10 a product that didn't even have an SD card reader but in a sense Apple's
0:15 correct in their assertion that Pro can
0:18 have a lot of different meanings an audio production professional has an
0:22 entirely different set of needs from a professional gamer so who is the
0:28 razerblade Pro 4 and at 3700 to
0:33 $4500 will anyone buy one these are both
0:37 very good questions that I will try to
0:50 answer ver Gear's ergonomic s and plus
0:54 lines of Gaming Chairs make for a great addition to any gaming setup check them
0:59 out at the link in the video description the Blade Pro outwardly has
1:03 a lot in common with the ancestor I unboxed 4 and 1/2 years ago it's a 17-in
1:09 class device with an all aluminum udab body construction it's got subtle
1:14 Contour on the lid and a blackon black color scheme for style and it's got an
1:19 0.88 in thickness that makes it much
1:23 sleeker looking and feeling than a typical desktop
1:28 replacement once we get past the surface however it becomes abundantly clear what
1:33 Razer has been working on for almost half a decade instead of some nambi
1:38 pambi mid-tier graphics card and a dual core CPU Razer has stuffed all of this
1:46 into the 2016 Blade Pro with the
1:49 standouts being the raid zero PCIe nbme
1:52 SSD storage configuration from the top to the bottom of the lineup and the
1:57 top-of-the-line desktop grade GTX 1088
2:01 gig graphic solution from NVIDIA and
2:04 there's a solid mix of I/O to boot with the highlights for pro users being the
2:09 integrated SD reader HDMI 2.0 output
2:12 with 7.1 codec support gigabit Ethernet
2:16 and a Thunderbolt 3 Port that allows the Blade Pro to be connected to a wide
2:20 variety of external storage devices or other high-end peripherals though
2:25 curiously Razer is not officially supporting their own core external GPU
2:31 enclosure presumably because there wouldn't be much to upgrade to I mean to
2:37 say this thing flies would be a gross understatement games productivity
2:42 content creation it chews through it all
2:46 there are a lot of laptops out there with 4K displays at this point but
2:50 almost all of them including the also
2:53 pretty Sleek though still thicker EVGA
2:57 sc7 have suffered from the same fa fatal
3:00 flaw they don't have the horses to
3:03 properly drive that kind of resolution
3:06 but these thermal results and gaming benchmarks should show that the Blade
3:10 Pro is ready to deliver a comfortable experience in even the most demanding
3:15 triaa games with razer's inclusion of NVIDIA g-sync adaptive refresh
3:20 technology going a long way towards smoothing out the appearance of
3:24 on-screen animations even down to around 40 frames per second but back back to
3:30 one of my earlier questions cramming a GTX 1080 into any household object turns
3:36 it into a suitable device for professional Gamers but what has Razer
3:41 done to draw in other professionals
3:44 we'll start with the display touchscreen nice to have solid IPS like viewing
3:50 angles nice to have too a greater than
3:53 1,000 to1 contrast ratio with 99% Adobe
3:57 RGB coverage now you're getting my attention
4:00 this means more creative possibilities in programs like Adobe Creative Cloud
4:05 with support for this wider color space
4:09 but based on these values not out of the
4:12 box a Delta e of greater than two is
4:15 considered not accurate so a calibration tool would be necessary before doing
4:21 even basic color grading work let's move on now to the human interface aspect of
4:26 the Blade Pro the switchblade interfaces
4:29 touchscreen monitor touchpad and mini display programmable buttons from the
4:34 original Blade Pro are gone Razer says
4:38 this was to make room for more internal components but I think it's because
4:42 they've had this time to reflect on the usefulness of programmable gaming Keys
4:47 above a touchpad but one thing that does remain
4:51 is the Curious positioning of the trackpad along with the integrated
4:56 scroll or volume wheel and media keys
5:00 what the hell was Razer thinking with this I think they were thinking eh most
5:05 people will get used to it and actually for most purposes I kind of did The Dead
5:11 Zone at the bottom shouldn't be there it's uncomfortable to use two-handed so
5:16 I run out of pad when clicking and dragging stuff over long distances and
5:20 respect to Apple for their haptic touchpads the long travel down distance
5:25 makes the pointer move sometimes when I'm trying to click but it is far far
5:29 from unusable and number two they were
5:33 thinking they wanted to cram a maximum legal limit 99w hour battery into the
5:39 wrist rest giving the Blade Pro very
5:42 solid battery life for a desktop replacement class product about 75% of
5:48 the Dell XPS Pro in my usual test and
5:52 about equal to its smaller brother the blade in a gaming test so the touchpad
5:57 ends up being kind of a neutral contr point for me but what about the keyboard
6:04 well this might cost me early access to the next big razor blade launch but it
6:10 has to be said loud and clear so they
6:13 learn sure it's reprogrammable in
6:16 synapse it's got RGB or whatever but
6:19 this thing is abominable you don't have
6:22 to move a lot to seriously impede a
6:26 strong touch typist ability to get anything done on a keyboard and while
6:31 I've been asking Razer for full-sized arrow keys for some time now this is not
6:36 a price I'm willing to pay for them
6:40 making matters worse Razer 65 G
6:43 mechanical key switches are among the worst I've encountered in a long time I
6:49 already don't prefer the heavily front-loaded tactile bump and mushy
6:54 follow through but it's the inconsistency in feel from key to key
6:59 that really make it impossible to maintain accuracy at speed you can even
7:04 hear it listen to how different these
7:07 keys right next to each other
7:15 sound there's no hiding behind optimized
7:18 for gaming as a defense this time this
7:22 is a bad keyboard on that note thanks to
7:26 some extra porting the compressed speakers actually sound pretty good good
7:30 but on the subject of Acoustics the Blade Pro carries on the tradition of
7:34 the blade song as I like to call it being tolerable at idle but very loud
7:39 under heavy loads when a lot of air flow is needed leading then to the answer to
7:45 my second question would anyone buy one
7:49 this is a product that has some noticeable warts I personally vow to
7:54 never buy a razor product with this keyboard design but it's one that also
8:00 has some utterly unique selling points
8:03 like its small power brick especially for a laptop of this power it's Adobe
8:08 RGB screen and it's jawdropping
8:11 performance in what is a larger and
8:14 heavier compared to the blade but legitimately portable and even sexy form
8:20 factor so are there buyers out there
