learn more welcome to the third installment of my Blackberry I switch
0:12
this installment as you can see I have Ted on my BlackBerry is all about
0:16
sideloading Android apps so there's two different main ways of doing this
0:20
there's the Google Chrome app way which you can click here and find the tutorial
0:24
for that on crackberry or there's the ddpb way which you can click here and
0:29
find the tutorial for that on crackberry both these ways are actually fairly
0:32
similar when you get down to it I prefer the Google Chrome app way because I just
0:35
find it simpler and easier to set up although the ddpb way is not actually
0:40
that complicated I just find Google Chrome one more streamlined so the first
0:44
thing you're going to want to do is to go into Google Chrome apps and install
0:47
Playbook App Manager leave that up on the p on your page or bookm Market at
0:52
least and then go to your Blackberry phone go into security and privacy and
0:57
then go into development mode mode after
1:01
enabling this it'll give you an IP and you're going to want to jot that down
1:05
somewhere and you want to set your own password which it'll also prompt you for
1:08
at this point you're going to want to go into the Chrome app enter the IP for
1:12
your phone which your phone gave you and then enter the password that you set for
1:16
developer mode and that will connect the Chrome app to your phone then you will
1:20
go to this website there are other ones but this one's pretty good in my opinion
1:25
it works and I like the crackberry community so that's good um and pick uh
1:30
bar files bar files download the different ones you want uh the bar files
1:35
are all for like whatever programs you're going to use I got stuff like
1:38
Winamp and Google Maps and Ted and
1:41
Instagram and a few things like that you can get whatever you want there's I
1:44
think like 180 apps on that list or something like that it somewhere on
1:48
there that's probably wrong but oh well um yeah and then basically you just drag
1:53
and drop those Bak files or bar files sorry after you've downloaded them into
1:59
the Google Chrome app app and the Google Chrome app will install them for you
2:02
when it's done installing it'll say success when it's done saying success
2:06
just disconnect to your phone from your computer and you're good to go I once
2:10
had to do a restart of my phone to get the app to work that might have been an
2:14
isolated case I'm not sure but it would worked fine after that I expected this
2:18
whole process to be actually a lot harder than it really was I did have
2:22
problems with Google Maps and Instagram but what I did was I went into the
2:25
Google Chrome app uninstalled the two that I had downloaded different bar
2:30
files than the ones that I had initially downloaded tried installing those and
2:34
they both worked fine so there's different options for some apps I think
2:39
Google Maps has like two or three or maybe even four different downloads that
2:42
you can choose so if one doesn't work for you just try another one it's really
2:45
not that long of a process to uninstall something and reinstall it once you have
2:48
the whole process set up uh one thing is if you restart your phone you do have to
2:52
go back into developer mode um as far as
2:55
I know there isn't a way to keep your phone in developer mode there might be I
2:59
haven't really looked into into this just as a heads up and other than that I
3:02
didn't run into any problems it was actually really easy this is unrelated to side loing apps but is a problem that
3:07
I ran into before I decided to start side loading apps I tried to update the
3:10
system software on my phone uh I tried to do the system update and it said it
3:15
was interrupted I didn't interrupt it I don't know anything on the phone that
3:18
would have interrupted it I looked up this problem and there was a lot of
3:21
information on it which can be a good or bad thing um for this one I read through
3:26
it a bit but didn't have a ton of time and I didn't have a ton of information on my phone so I decided the fastest way
3:31
to fix it would be to just factory reset my phone if I looked into it further I
3:34
probably could have fixed it but factory resetting it was the fastest way for me
3:38
after a factory reset it worked perfectly fine I hope the overall
3:42
easiness level of side loing apps doesn't actually make companies lazy I
3:46
could see companies go ah people can side loader app it's not a big deal and
3:50
then not developing a dedicated app for Blackberry we still need dedicated apps
3:55
guys they work pretty good but there is some functionality that you can tell is
3:59
not NE necessarily tuned for the device and I have found a few problems there
4:03
there are ways around it but it just maybe adds a few clicks or adds a few
4:07
something that are just not entirely enjoyable if you currently own a
4:11
Blackbeard I would highly recommend starting to sideload apps onto your
4:15
phone it's great it's really not that hard I could easily Chach my mom to do
4:19
it or maybe set it up and then my mom could do it on her own afterwards it's
4:23
it's just it's wonderful I wanted TED talks on my phone I wanted Google Maps
4:26
on my phone I wanted a few other things I was able to sideload everything I
4:30
really really wanted and now this phone
4:33
is able to do much more than it could for me before which is great and a
4:38
really easy way to add a lot of functionality to your blackberry I know we got a little bit away from the weekly
4:43
release schedule of these Blackberry I switch videos due to stuff like compex
4:47
but thank you for watching the third installment of my Blackberry I switched
4:51
the next installment will be more of a conclusion just an overwrapping comment
4:55
on everything that I've done so far uh if you like side loading apps if you're
5:00
interested in side loading apps comment in the comments I'm sure people can ask
