0:07 so I've got some sandforce 3 drives or san Force 3 San Force 2281 drives that
0:12 are going to need their firmwares updated I've got a Kronos deluxe from mushkin I've also got a couple of
0:16 wildfires the other Wildfire is plugged into a SATA cable hanging off the back
0:20 of this machine and uh so basically I want to switch from having two test
0:24 benches to three test benches so I'll have instead of an AMD and Intel I want
0:28 to have a 2011 and 1150 5 and an am3 plus so that I can easily and quickly
0:33 compare anything on any of the major platforms without swapping CPU coolers
0:37 etc etc etc so um now that they finally
0:40 fixed the stability issues that people were having with some blue screens and
0:45 whatnot with uh the sound Force SATA 3 drives I'm going to go ahead I'm going
0:48 to update these three drives and then I'm going to uh well get my test benches
0:53 set up so I figured I might as well do a video about how to update the firmware
0:57 on your SST so in this case I downloaded The Patriot the updator so I obviously
1:01 got that one off the Patriot website you want to run it as an administrator if
1:05 you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista it scans for drives you go ahead you
1:09 select your drive you update the firmware this all comes in in a single
1:13 pack so it comes with the firmware as
1:16 well as the release notes and the updater so you just click open Automatic
1:21 restart may occur after this operation etc etc etc so there's a few other
1:24 things that you have to factor in um I tried this on an AMD chipset this is a
1:28 modern AMD chipset 99 nfx board and this
1:31 errored out after about half a second so
1:34 what I had to do was I tried switching to HCI mode that didn't help uh so I
1:38 moved it over to an Intel board this is a p-55 board and now it's working with
1:42 no issue so only certain chipsets are going to be able to update the firmwares
1:47 correctly you do want to be in ahci mode
1:51 so that is a factor as well
1:56 and other than that I can't really think of anything oh look at that it's
1:59 complete already hey here's something interesting why don't we find out
2:03 together if I can update a mushin Kronos
2:07 using the Patriot utility and the Patriot firmware because they are using
2:12 the same flash these are all toggle chip drives with 2281 controller so as far as
2:19 the actual Hardware is concerned they are basically identical so let's see if
2:24 the mushen drive will allow me
2:30 to update it I might have to grab the
2:33 rescan for drives I might have to grab
2:36 the updater from the mushin site
2:39 instead scanning for drives please
2:43 wait oh look at this okay update firmware
2:49 okay okay huh look at that oh no it
2:52 didn't work yeah okay yep so it's saying you
2:57 know basically no you're not allowed to do that okay well either way my Patriot
3:01 ones are updated and I will update the muskin one after and I think I've
3:05 covered pretty much everything I wanted to say so thank you for checking out my
3:08 little video on how to update the firmware of your SATA 3 sandforce SSD
3:15 drive don't forget to subscribe T tchp from unboxings reviews tutorials and
3:19 completely random videos too sometimes but not this one this was a tutorial in
3:23 case you didn't notice
